It's very short, about .5 miles and there's virtually no elevation. Parking is right off the highway. Some hike deeper into the forest and actually make their way on top of the bridges. Unfortunately some have also died doing so. Know your limits. There is a trail beyond the paved path and at some point it gets very steep and sketchy. This is where you should stop and turn around. It's best to enjoy these bridges from a distance and find much safer hikes to take which there are many of in this area. Happy hiking!

The view from the road of the beach coastline seemed pretty promising and since I was in no rush, figured why not stop and check this place out. For 9am in early August, the parking lot was half empty. I noticed people had their surfboards and boogey boards ready to go out in the waters. According to one of the entrance signs, Battle Rock said it's a city park but also a historic memorial "dedicated in memory of the ancient people and pioneer founders of the townsite". It was a quiet Sunday morning without a cloud in the sky and ideal for strolling the beach shores. This was a good opportunity to do some quality reflecting while taking a break from driving. The beach had a calming setting with moments to take photos of those vintage Oregon rocks protruding up from the ground. I would say though compared to the many vista point lookouts along Highway 101, this Battle Rock Park was just okay within the bigger picture of it all. I used 45 minutes walking the beach shores and soaking up the fresh air. It is free to stop on by here and explore. I noticed a Visitor Center next to the parking lot. It was closed unfortunately. And that's really it. Lastly, if I can say anything else, this Battle Rock Wayfinding Point is 13 miles north of the next roadside stop on my itinerary - Sisters Rock - a short trail to hike for terrific perspectives of Oregon's grand coastline.

This lesser known spot along the Boardman Corridor turned out to be one of my favorite stops…read more As we continued our tour up the 101 my husband happened to have noted a stop at Otter Point, yet I saw no sign as we turned off the road. There was a sign, however, to turn onto the one lane, potholed, tight dirt road that led us to the tiny parking area denoting we'd arrived at this state park. We took the trail out to the ledges and rock platforms that overlooked expansive views below and across the water. It was gorgeous, peaceful, and fun to explore the area, joined in our visit here by only one other couple (of geese). The underside of the sandstone edges really looked precarious, so we were careful to stay back. Otter Point is quite hidden and tucked away as compared to most other Boardman area viewpoints and landmarks...thereby offering a bit more serenity. A bit tight to maneuver the camper van down the road to get there, but definitely worth it.

In fact, you may not even realize you're on a bridge until you see the 'Oregon's tallest bridge" sign. This bridge lacks the fancy top, and it's a little devoid in interesting architecture. It gets five stars, though, for being the tallest in Oregon.

How can you not rate a lighthouse as five stars, I mean, c'mon! Lighthouses are useful, symbolic,…read moremeaningful and beautiful. How many people can say they're are all of those? Not many that I know of.... It is an 8 mile detour off of 101 to see this light, so 16 miles roundtrip. If you do not take a few stops when driving along the Oregon coast then you may be doing it wrong. So much to see here, don't rush through to get to your destination. Stop and look around, you'll be glad you did and you'll likely get amazing photos. Weather depending, I guess.

The museum is free…read more The gift shop has classic tourist merch. The staff are friendly enough. Jerry's Rogue River Museum and Gift Shop are in a building near the boarding area for the fantastic 5-star Jerry's Rogue Jets tours. Both the museum and gift shop are a-ok though neither is really amazing either. We came for the museum and it was a quick distraction with a couple rooms decorated with photographs, infographics, and stuffed-animal displays about the fish, birds, wildlife, and history of the Rogue River. Kudos to those that invested the time and energy to put the exhibits together. Rounding up to a generous 4 stars because there probably aren't many other free options for quickly learning a bit about the history of the area.

My parents met the man who created all of this back in the 70s and always said he was the nicest and most interesting man. I think his family still owns and runs it. It's outside of Gold Beach so we hit it up anytime we're doing the PNW area. It's very affordable and kids find it magical. The parking is ample and the bathrooms are clean. The gift shop is really fun- esp when my son was younger and going through a years-long dinosaur obsession. My grown daughter, the kids dad and I all still think it's amazing. It's a really chill, nice place to stop. The person working is always really nice and they give you a fun map to walk around with.
