    Hibachi steak
    Gregory B.

I went here with my kids for my birthday this year, as I heard it was a great hibachi joint. I was thinking serve at table, ala Benihana or similar, but no dice. I won't rate down for that, as I was not promised anything and I want to be fair. The atmosphere is rather small town Japanese, but that fits Fairview. They have a decent sized sushi bar to the left as you walk in, the seating is to the right. The service was prompt and she did a good job making sure everyone was taken care of. The food? From a hibachi standpoint, it is rather boring. I rarely salt my food and found it was necessary for the hibachi steak. A bit overcooked and a bit too lightly seared for my taste. The veggies were fine (see picture), but the hibachi rice was cooked way ahead of time and was completely underwhelming, to say the least. I find rice to be tricky anyway. Fortunately, they did not cook the sushi rice far ahead of service, as it would have made the sushi taste like a garbage can (aka, Supermarket sushi - and don't write me to say you know where there is good supermarket sushi in Nashville, as you are lying to yourself if you think so - LOL). If you order hibachi, you get a clear beef broth (miso soup with Bento boxes) and a ginger dressing salad. I think the salad dressing had a bit too much mayo, which ended up hiding the ginger. The girls loved their bento boxes and I got the chance to try a bit of the Udon, which was nicely done. And they brought me a bowl of ice cream for my birthday (no annoying singing). Would I return? If I had a friend in Fairview who wanted to, I would probably try again, but I would not order the hibachi. Otherwise, there are better hibachi restaurants in town where they actually cook in front of you, guaranteeing it is very hot when you get it. Plus, you get a show. Maybe "good enough for Fairview, but not worth the drive"?

Heard from others that they had good food so stopped in while in Fairview. Woman taking orders was…read morefriendly and when asked about the chicken wings said it's not popular and recommended the chicken on a stick. I went with the wings. (Bad mistake - keep reading). Downside is they don't take American Express but thankfully I had a back up card. So I went home and excitedly prepared to eat. Visually the rice looked mushy and fried egg roll looked old. The wings also appeared overcooked and dry. So my mom and I dug in AND were disappointed!! Food tasted old as if it was leftover. Lacked any flavor and my mom used 4 packets of duck sauce to make it edible. The first wing I tried was old, dry, and over cooked. My second wing tasted rancid! I almost started to throw up and immediately spit it out. The eggroll was so old it was inedible and tasted awful. The entire restaurant should be closed down and the owners should be EMBARRASSED for serving this meal. I am not sure what others are experiencing that they are raving BUT what I received was one of the worst meals my mom and I have ever received. If you read my reviews you'll know I tend to give higher scores. But I could not ever encourage someone to experience what we did. I even hate thinking we were purposefully given rancid, old, left over food but my experience seems to be the anomaly.

The staff here is always super friendly and the food is always really delicious and fresh. I've…read morenever had a bad experience here personally. we go here quite often for Pickup.

We are celebrating a special occasion and felt so great choosing this place as a night to celebrate. We curated our own menu based on reviews online. We went with the scallion pancake, the shrimp fried rice, the baby back ribs, the smashed cucumbers, the bok choy, and mapo tofu as well as ice milk for dessert and a tequila cocktail. As you can see the presentation of all dishes were beautiful. The highlights included the shrimp fried rice with a savory rice and a great amount of shrimp, the yellowtail yusheng with a wasabi base that was absolutely delightful and the baby back ribs that fell off the bone and you wanted to savor every last bite. The ice milk for dessert was the move as it was nice and light to finish off a heavy dinner. We definitely will be back again for the ribs and vibes. Thank you for a special night Choy!

They boxed our food up and I love that there's a "coat check" for the boxed food. We came here to celebrate and they for sure celebrated us! And even let us try this drink at the end. The welcome drink was some unsweetened fruit (passion fruit and green tea?) tea and it was so refreshing, I asked for more! I also got the magic dragon cocktail that was really good. Peking duck: worth the hour wait! I appreciated our server explaining that this isn't the Beijing style Peking duck, but the duck was prepared for over a week and it was perfectly smoked and the flavors were amazing. It came with some wraps, fresh vegetables, and hoisin sauce and pate to make the perfect combo. To make it even better, I wish they gave a few more of the wraps because there's definitely a lot more meat. Smashed cucumbers: it sounds so basic but this was probably one of our favorite dishes because it was tasty and so refreshing. That crispy tofu skin was chef's kiss for toppings. Yellow tail yusheng: beautifully plated and the fish was beyond fresh. We thought the mustard was just a tad too strong, but still a good dish. Xinjiang lamb lomein: great portion and flavorful dish. The ground lamb was tasty and great mixed with the lomein noodles For dessert, I got the sorghum mai lai go, which was interesting as they drizzle baiju on it. So grateful they do free parking validation at the garage next door!
