Pros: Nice seating layout that is great for groups or even a solo smoke session. Cons: Not the greatest tasting or smoothest hookahs. They use an orange or grapefruit as the head which throws off the flavor. Ask them to use a ceramic head when ordering. read more

My BF and I were looking for a local hookah spot to cap off our date night, and after some Googling we stumbled on Istanbul Cafe. All of the reviews were complimentary, and from them we already had a heads up that they did not sell alcohol. Let me just say, I am SO HAPPY that we found this place! Although it was FREEZING outside, and thus a bit drafty inside, the vibes were everything! Once we walked in we were immediately tended to (and carded for our ID and proof of vax) and seated. We ordered (Blue Mist + Mint with a Pineapple head) and it was HITTING. Nice and smooth! I got a ginger ale (bad idea bc again it was FREEZING lol) and my BF got a cappuccino which came in a clear glass and he enjoyed. The music was also great and the place was filled with a good mix of ppl including couples, girlfriends, and bigger groups. So it's clearly a bit of a neighborhood spot where everyone feels welcome and can just vibe and have a good time. I will definitely be returning soon! I truly enjoyed this hookah experience, not only are the patrons attentive the atmosphere is very relaxing. Very inexpensive and the coals were changed for us about two times without an extra fee. Only downside to this cafe is they don't have any alcoholic beverages but it makes sense because they are located on the second floor of an establishment. There is a big stair case that may be hazardous. Other than that , I enjoyed myself. Will be back ! read more

Went here today. The guy that attended me was very nice. I wish they would serve liquor in moderation since the guy told me they don't want drunk people in their establishment acting up which is understandable. The owner should definitely reconsider serving alcoholic beverages to a limited maybe? If that's possible. the owner should definitely reconsider the no alcohol policy. I honestly cannot give a long review seeing as how my visit was extremely quick, almost non-existent. My friends and I came here for the Super Bowl to get some hookah. This place has soo many flavors and the fruit varieties that the hookah can come in is great. There is orange, apple, grapefruit, watermelon, etc. Then the hookah choice flavors have two columns... Weekends and weekdays have different prices. There is a $5 cover charge on Friday and Saturday to enter. We did not smoke because there are NO DRINKS OR BYOB ALLOWED. However, the atmosphere is very relaxing and intimate to just chill. I will be back to give an actual update on my second experience. However, thus far I am a fan of the place and service. I hate to give a Bronx business such a low rating but they strictly keep watch over your shoulder for the, "two people per hookah pipe" rule and it doesn't lend to a relaxing environment. Don't even think about bringing your own drinks - I mean soda/water and certainly not alcohol; they will kick you out. You enter through a side door and go up a narrow stairwell, which seems private but also a little sketchy. Inside is fairly decorated but the environment and staff are not hospitable. I loveeeee Istanbul!! This is a hidden gem I was put on to years ago and am still going with my boyfriend who loves it now too. The hookah is amazing, affordable and lasts so long. They walk around every once in a while to change your charcoal and check on you. Worst place ever!!! Walked in they don't sell alcohol which is fine I respect that they don't do it because of religious reasons. Asked for two sodas and a glass of ice to have my soda. Waitress said he's not allowed to give me a GLASS OF ICE because the owner doesn't trust people - if that's the case he should check people's bags. If they think people are sneaking alcohol in. Well I asked to speak to him and ( the "owner") he said no he could not give me a glass of ice to have my soda. I asked why? He said because he doesn't trust people. We had ordered already and decided to walk up and out - and leave and owner did absolutely NOTHING he didn't care that we left. So rude and for a glass of ice. I went here with a group of friends on a Friday night. Such a cozy place to just chill back, talk, smoke hookah, and listen to good music. Everyone pretty much sticks to their group and does not bother you. What I didn't like so much was the customer service- it's more of a self serve place where you have to get up most of the time to order things. Also, it would be cool if they served alcohol, but no real hookah lounge serves alcohol. My advice, come here drunk and you will have a blast. A was a little buzzed and enjoyed myself more than my other friends who weren't. Also, this seems more like a place to go to after a night of heavy partying so you can just chill. Istanbul Cafe is a hidden gem in the Bronx. Excellent hookah that rivals some of the lounges on Steinway. Like any traditional spot, there's no alcohol but only great hookah, soft drinks, tea and I beleive you can bring your own food here. Music starts off at a decent level but increases once the DJ arrives after 11pm. Service was nice and helpful. You can expect the chill lounge vibe and good music. Only downfall is the furniture were not that comfortable, appealing and even some burns. Comes with the territory but definitely not flattering. Overall, not bad for the Bronx. read more

I love this place! It gets pretty crowded on the weekends so try to call and RSVP ahead of time. Expect if you have 6 or more people to pay a $5 cover charge which I think is ridiculous but I can understand from the amount of people who frequent and smoke 3 hookahs ALL NITE so you don't get a seat and they don't even tip when the bill comes. There's a DJ who comes in on the weekend so expect loud music. Everyone I've brought to the place however LOVES it including myself. They were attentive in terms of the charcoal of the hookah since they changed it often but weren't around so often when we requested other things. Maybe because it was Thursday but still. I went on a Friday night around midnight. It was a $5 cover. There was a mixed crowd with Spanish people, Arab and black. The music was mixed genre but in each genre the DJ played the most popular tracks for the current time. IE radio hits. Music was mostly hip hop and Spanish tunes.
