Thank goodness my experience was okay! I was afraid to read the low reviews before we left from LAX to Rome. I got back yesterday and am reading the reviews now. Our flight going and coming back was on time and went off without a hitch. We didn't have any problems at the gate or with the flight attendants. We didn't pay to select our seats ahead of time and thankfully they seated us together there and back. The seats are comfortable but somewhat tight which I expected. You can pay for seats with more legroom but we chose not to. They have lots of good movies and music available on the screens in front of each seat. They also have charging ports but on both flights they didn't charge well and were loose. It took a bit of fidgeting to get the cord to stay in place and stay charging. On the flight home the screens at both of our seats wouldn't play games but at least the movies loaded with no problem. The food served about an hour into the flight was a choice of chicken or pasta which was decent tasting. A few hours later they served a small sandwich on a bun which was bland and uneventful. A couple hours before landing they served another bland sandwich with some nuts and a granola bar. Luckily, I didn't have to deal with calling customer service but I highly recommend buying travel insurance in case there's any issues that come up. Overall my experience was pleasant and especially since they are the only direct flight LAX to Rome I would fly with them again! read more

I traveled on ITA Airways Flight AZ629 from Chicago to Rome on May 25, 2026, and unfortunately my experience was extremely disappointing. Upon boarding, I found my seating area to be noticeably dirty. When I politely asked a flight attendant if the area could be cleaned, I was met with a negative attitude that made me feel as though I was being unreasonable for making a basic request regarding cleanliness. The more troubling issue occurred during meal and snack service. One flight attendant repeatedly skipped over me while serving passengers in my row. She provided service to the passengers seated around me but ignored me entirely on multiple occasions. I had to wait while others were served, and it became so noticeable that fellow passengers sitting nearby spoke up on my behalf and pointed out that I had been overlooked. As the only African American passenger seated in my immediate row and surrounding area, this experience was particularly upsetting. While I cannot know the reason for the treatment I received, being repeatedly ignored while others around me were served left me feeling singled out and uncomfortable for the duration of the flight. I understand that flight attendants work under demanding conditions, and I appreciate that mistakes can happen. However, the combination of the aircraft's cleanliness issues, the dismissive attitude when I requested assistance, and the repeated failure to provide me with the same level of service as surrounding passengers created an experience that fell far below the standard I expected from an international airline. I hope ITA Airways reviews this incident seriously, including the conduct of the crew on Flight AZ629, and takes appropriate steps to ensure that all passengers are treated with equal professionalism, respect, and courtesy. We are going to be spending a few months in Italy and we are bringing our 3 fur babies which presents a little bit of a challenge. To keep from getting into the weeds I'll leave you with this. The individuals I spoke with were very accommodating and went out of their way to make sure we were able to satisfy our needs as well as the requirements of the airline so we don't have issues the day of our flight. The 1st person I talked to reassured me we would be able to fly with our crew but needed her supervisor to sign off before she could complete the transaction. I was a little stressed because there are a total of 10 dogs allowed per flight but she reserved our slots without payment and actually called us back the next day to confirm with us that we were good to go. I was traveling with a fractured ankle in a walking immobilizer and needed a mobility scooter accommodated. At check-in, the agent told me I'd need a doctor's note before they could accommodate the device. As a Registered Nurse, I explained that under the Air Carrier Access Act and 14 CFR Part 382, airlines cannot require medical documentation to accommodate a mobility device, a passenger only needs to state they're disabled and describe their functional restrictions. The agent pushed back repeatedly, at one point telling me I "should have booked United Airlines" if I wasn't willing to provide more than I was legally required to. Shortly after, she brought up having once flown with a deceased infant, apparently as a comparison to my situation, a genuinely bizarre and upsetting thing to say to a disabled passenger at check-in. The scooter was accommodated without any documentation ever being provided, which confirms the demand was baseless to begin with. I filed a formal complaint with ITA and received a generic templated apology that didn't acknowledge the ACAA violation, didn't confirm any policy correction, and didn't address the specific conduct described. If you have a disability or mobility device and are considering ITA Airways, know this is the kind of interaction you may face at check-in, and that clearly and correctly asserting your rights may not be enough to get treated with basic respect. read more

Fantastic experience on my flight round trip San Francisco to Rome! this was my first flight with ITA and it was great! Overall huge high marks for the service on the plane. The staff was super professional. I had to cut my self off from all the food and drinks. The food was really tasty pasta with fruit and wine. Several hours out from landing, they provided big snack bags and a small pizza bread, which left over snacks for of ride home. The plane was really nice. We splurged a few hundred $ for premium economy and it was so worth it. I'm a big (not fat) guy, 6'3", 250 lbs and I was absolutely comfortable. If you are bigger and have a wide girth, you might find the seats snug, I will warn. The check -in, baggage claim and all other service was on point! The plane amenities were great with the seat back entertainment, plugs for your phone and computer. I wil absolutely use ITA again! read more

Poor customer service, uncomfortable seats (economy) unable to recline. Food service was horrible, the flight attendants were horrible! It looked like the flight attendants didn't want to be there and serve their customers. After given a snack, they never picked up the left over drinks before landing. Ended up holding a full cup of water during landing . If you can avoid this airline, avoid it. My original booking had changed and my first preferred airline moved my flight with ITA. We gate checked our stroller in Los Angeles and when we arrived at FCO, it was not at the gate. We then went to baggage claim and received the rest of our luggage, but not our stroller. We were unable to wait in the hour long line to file a PIR because our ride was going to leave without us. I called ITA airways multiple times and they were not helpful at all, telling me to call the airport. We had our baggage tracking number with us, but they said because we didn't file a report at the airport, there was nothing they could do. I also called and emailed FCO multiple times with no response. It's been 3 weeks and we have received no update on our stroller's whereabouts. Extremely disappointed. read more

Just got off a flight from Rome to LAX.. it was the dirtiest most unorganized flight i have ever been on. The crew was unconcerned with the filth and trash everywhere and didnt care that families were standing in the aisles visiting and disturbing other passengers. I had an aisle seat and the attendant hit me with the drink cart as she hurried down the aisle. The restrooms were disgusting and did not start out that way. I realized that the passengers were just throwing their trash under the seats and did not seem to be responsible to clean up after themselves . As i walked down the aisle to leave when we landed i was amazed at the trash scattered throughout. I will NEVER fly ITA again!! read more

Buyer beware when you book with ITA regarding aircraft seats and baggage fees. 1 extra checked small bag is $240. Your carry on must be below 16 lbs. even your backpack. They are strict so domestic carry on bags are considered too big for ITA carry on. We scheduled LAX to Rome on an airbus A330. We booked comfort plus seats and we were set. Without notice they moved our flight to an A350-900 and randomly changed our seats. I had to call Italy and change my seats yet again to sit together. Then the plane was changed a third time again without notice to another type configuration of A350 so we now had front seats which we did not want. We were supposed to have the second row seats and now no tv during takeoff or landing and no seat back pockets. We booked our seats on a seat map but the map did not match the actual plane we flew. We returned on Air France and it was much better. Our selected seats never changed. The Air France waived baggage fees for such a small carry on bag to check. read more

On our last trip in November 2025 we flew ITA on 3 different planes, 1 outbound and 2 on the return trip. We had assigned seats prior to the trip. All flights included an aisle seat which is necessary for health reasons. On every leg of our trip our seats were changed at check-in. On the last leg from Rome to Los Angeles (approx. 13 hours) we both had center seats with no aisle. I have never had our seats changed like that in the last 10-15 years of flying so I didn't even think to ask when we were checking in at the airport. This practice of changing our assigned seats without asking us is totally unacceptable. I would never fly ITA again because of this. I have told this story to friends and recommend they avoid ITA or fly with caution.   Final comments: Quality of crew service was inconsistent. Some attendants (75%) were friendly and attentive. Some never smiled and behaved as if passenger requests were an inconvenience that interfered with their assigned duties. Toilets were kept relatively clean considering the length of the transatlantic flights. The breakfast that was served prior to landing in Los Angeles was ice cold and as a result, quite tasteless and hard. A little warming, if possible, would have greatly helped. read more

Cancelled our trip and then made it impossible to rebook Booked a round trip for two from Riyadh to Nice (via Rome) for an important trip on 3 June. ITA Airways cancelled all four flights - and then disappeared. What followed was the worst airline experience I've had. Five phone calls in a single day: a promised callback that never came, repeated disconnections, and being bounced to "another number" with no resolution. The website won't let me rebook online. There is literally no functioning channel to fix a problem they created. To make it worse, agents claimed they'd only put us in economy, that there were "no seats," and that no compensation or fare difference applied - none of which matches EU passenger rights (EC 261/2004), which require re-routing at no additional cost, including on other airlines if needed. We have fixed dates and pre-paid accommodation waiting. The stress of being abandoned like this, with a birthday trip on the line, has been awful. I cannot recommend ITA Airways based on this experience - if anything goes wrong, you may be left completely on your own. read more

I flew in June, with my wife, R/T from Chicago to Rome and back. We flew ITA Premium Economy. 1) Boarding at ORD was not managed well at all. Little staff control of the process. We were supposed to be in an early Boarding group but there was a crowd of people all standing together. The ITA staff never was able to get families with children boarded first. We ended up taking part in the process by putting all families ahead of us so they could board. 2) The A330 Airbus was a very dated plane. A new outside paint job did not cover up the aging interior. The seat was OK. My footrest was broken. The tray table was broken. 3) The food was terrible. All food served was terrible. The breakfast ohhhhh just say no to the Breakfast snack. 4) The staff on board was ok but not very enthusiastic it would seem about having to work. 5) 1/2 star for arriving at Rome on time. The return flight from Rome: 6) There are very beautiful pictures of the trendy international air terminal in Rome. And here we have ITA's home airport so you would believe you were in for one lovely experience. Don't believe it. The seating area was off to the side on a lower level. I would call it the Cattle Barge area. We sat there waiting. We sat in the Cattle Barge area (which wasn't the plane boarding area) for about one hour as the original plane was taken out of service and replaced. There was no ramp in this area to enter an aircraft. We needed to be transported to the aircraft. Airport security was having a fit over the ITA process so ended up manually checking passengers three times before we got on to a waiting bus. From the Cattle Barge we took the bus to a plane sitting far away on the tarmac. When I was seated on the plane it was the same seat number I had when leaving Chicago and low and behold the same seat with the broken foot rest and serving tray. 7) The food was just as bad on this flight. They ran out of one of the meal choices......really no loss. 8) Although we took off an hour late we landed on time. No doubt the pilot pushed the cruising speed to make up the time. 9) 1/2 star for an ontime arrival at ORD. Summary: In this time of expensive plane travel one would expect more when you upgrade to something called "Premium". Yes the seats were wider and they did go back a little. However the rest of the experience (including the confusing ITA website) was substandard. read more

Pay the extra money to upgrade your seat or else they will bump you from your flight and put you on standby. I called customer service before and was confused why my ticket said WL and it wouldn't give me a boarding pass. They said everything was okay and I had a seat and that I just needed to get the boarding pass when I checked my bag. They gave no notification or message when booking that if you do unassigned seating you have the lowest priority and will be booted off the flight. Capitalism wins again I guess. Absolutely unacceptable and dangerous negligence by ITA Airways ITA Airways' handling of my father's luggage was not just incompetent--it was harmful and potentially life-threatening. They lost his bag for two full weeks, despite repeated attempts to contact them. No one ever answered the phone. No one followed up. No one took responsibility. In the end, my father--who is battling cancer--had to physically go to the airport himself just to retrieve the bag that they lost. What makes this unforgivable is that his cancer medications were inside that bag. Because of ITA Airways' negligence and total lack of communication, he went without his medication. As a result, he has now begun experiencing cancer symptoms again--something that should never happen because an airline couldn't do its job. At no point did ITA Airways apologize. At no point did they offer compensation. At no point did they show even basic human concern. This wasn't just a delayed suitcase. This was a complete failure of duty of care, customer service, and basic decency. An airline that cannot be trusted to handle something as critical as a passenger's medically necessary belongings should not be trusted at all. I strongly warn anyone traveling with essential medication, medical equipment, or anything irreplaceable: do not fly with ITA Airways. If something goes wrong, you are on your own. DELAYED BAGGAGE REIMBURSMENT. In January, ITA Airways lost my suitcase for eight days. Replacing my necessities cost me over $1,700. In early March, after I submitted all receipts, the airline confirmed their liability and promised to a reimbursement check. It took 3 months for that check to arrive. Frustrated after the first month, I filed complaints with the U.S. Dept. of Transportation (DOT) and with the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC). Such complaints turn out to be useless. In late May I opened a claim with the credit card used to purchase my ticket, demanding a chargeback for 'services not rendered.' Only after that did a check arrive. ITA Airways is criminally slow to honor a delayed baggage claim. Working with your credit card company or with a state consumer protection agency are the best way to go. ITA Airways was absolutely awful to work with! We were booked on a flight for our family. 2 regular tickets and 2 business class tickets. Miami to Rome direct roundtrip. We made a terrible mistake on our flight time missing our flight. We got to the airport and there was no one available at the ticket counter. We called customer service as soon as we realized what happened and was told we were considered a no show! They would not rebook us or help us at all, We were told as a no show, no refund, no rebooking, and by the way we lost our return flight. We had spent over $9000.00 in travel and they said you are out of luck. No help, nothing! This is the worst experience I have ever had. Also, called customer service multiple times hoping I would get someone that would help us and nothing, Every single person was rude, short, and did not care. Our recent trip with ITA Airways was a complete disaster. Our flight from Bari to Genoa (via Rome) on September 5, 2025 was delayed by over an hour, causing us to miss our connecting flight to Genoa. To make matters worse, our checked luggage never arrived in Genoa and got stuck in Rome for several days. Most idiotic, unorganized, pathetic, inefficient, and incompetent corporation I've ever flown on, even worse than American Airlines. Delayed flights, no bag storage, rude employees. Staff have no idea what they're doing especially when it comes to solving problems, like no overhead bin space. I guess you're required to be incompetent in order to be hired. They have no idea how to ask people to put the backpacks under chairs to make room for carry ons. And I'm guessing everyone had carryons with them because checking them in is an absolute pain. Over the intercom, they told everyone to put their bags under the seats in front of them and didn't enforce this rule, which lead to bags being checked in and a delay in flight service. These planes are outdated, stinky, hot as hell, tight, and absolutely disgusting. If you are on the taller side, avoid this airline at all costs. Your knees will be touching the seat in front of you the whole time. There was a hair flowing out of the air conditioning vent and stuck in the seat belt buckle. For a $200 one way ticket I expected slightly better. Worst experience I've ever had. And they have the stupidest app I've ever used. Nothing ever loads, works, or updates. I'd never heard of this airline prior to our trip to Europe. Our flights were booked through a travel agent and we were updated as changes were made to our itinerary. I had selected and paid for our seats well in advance of our flights and had downloaded the app to be notified when our boarding passes were ready and checkin could commence. Upon time to check in, I was able to check in, but received an error when trying to access our boarding passes. I was informed we'd have to go to the ticket counter in order to obtain them. We located the ticket counter in Terminal 6 of LAX. Our luggage was weighed, passports verified and our boarding passes were printed for both our flights to Greece. I did notice our seats had been moved from the ones I had paid for, so I'm pretty sure that was probably why I was unable to get the boarding passes through the app. Everyone we dealt with from the airline was very friendly and helpful. The plane was clean and the amenities were very nice! This was the longest flight we'd ever been on and they had blankets and pillows already on the seats. We received 2 snacks and a decent meal and several visits from the beverage cart. The pear juice was REALLY good! The seats were leather and the television screens were a lifesaver for such a long flight--with great options for movies, tv shows, games, etc. They were also very accommodating to hand out headphones and the screens had USB A ports for charging your devices. Our connecting flight was a smaller plane and didn't have as much to offer, but it was also only a 2 hour flight, so it wasn't as big of a deal--still a great experience. I'd definitely consider using this airline again and recommend them! read more

I tried checking in online but it did not work, so I tried to check in at a physical counter, but there was no one at the counter and the check in closed 40 mins earlier than scheduled making it impossible to check in since the online checkin was not working. Background This review is based on a trip from LAX to Athens via Rome. My girlfriend and I flew in business class. Checkin (****) Our wait time at the counter at LAX was short. After waiting for a few minutes in the Business Class line, we were helped by an agent. He was not overly friendly but was pleasant. Everything went smoothly. Pro tip: they weigh your carryon luggage (12 kg max). My girlfriend's bag was 12.8kg, but the agent made an exception. Lounge at LAX (*) Since ITA does not have their own lounge at LAX, business class passengers have to use the Korean Airlines lounge. We went there, but it was probably the saddest airport lounge we'd ever seen. It's spacious and clean but the food selection was really bad. The most substantial food we saw was mini sandwiches. We used the bathrooms and left! We headed over to the American Express Centurion Lounge (1 level down from the KLA lounge), which was substantially better. Lounge at FCO (****) ITA has two lounges at Fiumicino. We got to use Hangar Lounge (on our way to Athens). It's a spacious lounge with a very decent selection of food and a full bar. Flight Experience (***) My experience with the long haul flight between LAX and FCO was below average for business class. PROS: lie-flat seats with a designated overhead bin for each seat. CONS: Maybe I was expecting too much as it's an Italian airlines, but the food was mediocre (on both long haul flights). On our way back from Rome to LA, the cappuccino machine was broken. So, I had brewed coffee, which was so weak and lukewarm! I know it's a first-world problem :-). Their move selection is limited and outdated. The biggest con is the lack of attention. They did serve us food and drinks but they rarely checked on us during the flight. The flight between Rome and Athens was just fine. It's a short two-hour flight. They "create" business class seats; the middle seats are skipped. Conclusion We decided to try ITA for the first time because we were able to get a decent deal using Amex points. Based on our overall experience, we are not likely to fly ITA again if we can help it. read more

I am writing to express my extreme frustration and disappointment with the complete lack of accountability between ITA Airways and Orbitz. My recent experience has been nothing short of infuriating. I originally booked ITA Airways Flight 1466 from Venice to Bari, Italy, with a connection in Rome, under Itinerary #73116215834473. I paid extra for specific seats -- 4A on the Venice-Rome leg ($22) and 7A on the Rome-Bari leg ($22) -- because I wanted a comfortable and organized travel experience. However, a few days before my trip, ITA Airways unilaterally changed my flight to ITA Airways Flight 7692, rerouting me through Vienna, Austria instead of Rome. As a result, I did not use the seats I paid for, and yet, neither ITA Airways nor Orbitz is willing to take responsibility for refunding me. When I called ITA Airways, I was told Orbitz must handle the refund. When I called Orbitz, they insisted that ITA Airways is responsible since they changed the flight. I spent over three exhausting hours being bounced back and forth between both companies -- each blaming the other while refusing to help. This is absolutely unacceptable. ITA Airways changed my flight -- I did not. I paid for seats I never used because of your company's decision, and being told that I have no recourse is outrageous. I demand a full refund of the $44 seat charges immediately. If this issue is not resolved promptly, I will not hesitate to share this experience publicly and file formal complaints with consumer protection agencies and travel forums to warn other travelers about this disgraceful treatment. Let me start of by saying that I departed and arrived safely at my destination thats what counts. However, I would say that this airline left a lot to be desired. Starting at the gate it was caotic. No updates, no text or email alerts of delays or alerts. Took business class to italy and overnight flight. Attendants were less than friendly. Meals service below any standards i have experienced and I fly often . I didn't receive all of my meal. I was not asked if I wanted dessert or any other drinks besides with my meal. No coffee no after dinner drink ect. Not cheap to fly business class I pay for an experience and comfort Return flight was the same except not in business class this was even less than desired. Gate was the worse no one knew what they were doing once again a coatic mess boarding started for 1st and 2nd group and then 3rd and 4th were being taken immediately before business class was even taken on board 3rd and 4th group just joined in the lines and made for a long wait disorganized pushing and confusing Once on the plane for this long return home new plane by the way. Tv had 6 movies offered all old 1 new 3 in Italian. 2 episodes of friends season 3 episode 4 haha volume was only on high could not lower it. No flight information on the tv couldn't see how long i was flying destination time ect. All other aorlibes have tbis information so you can check where your flight is jow fast its going tie to destination. charger did not work for my phone under my seat bins above my head shook and rattled and I felt like I needed to make a plan if it became dislodged and fell down on our heads Lunch service pleasant enough. 1 hr after takeoff 8.5 hr flight never offered another drink until a snack was served 1 hr before landing. If you are planning on using ITA airways for an extended trip, make sure to have AirTags with you, or split your luggage with your other traveling partner because it's possible your bag will get misplaced. A week into our honeymoon, my bag was lost and never reached the destination of Naples when flying out of Catania airport in Sicily. This had all of my clothes that I purchased and brought for the trip to Italy. Instead, I arrived in Italy with only the clothes that I was wearing on my back. This resulted in unplanned expenses during my trip in Sorrento that were expensive and inconvenient. My bag was lost on August 12th, it wasn't until August 29th, that I finally received it back home in the United States. I haven't heard any response from the airline in regards to compensation or any attempt to reach out. There's no customer service phone number or email to reach anyone at. In order to file a complaint, you must do it through the website which doesn't work very well due to annoying popups and having the exact required data for each field of entry. The customer service in Italy was abysmal when trying to contact anyone for any update on my bag. On what was an otherwise incredible, once in a life time trip, ITA airways dropped the ball and left a sour taste in my mouth. Be careful traveling with ITA airways and make sure to either include an AirTag in your checked baggage, or try to just have only a carry on. Hands down the worst airline I've ever flown and I worked in the aviation industry for a few years! Flights are never on time, staff (especially the flight attendants) are incredibly rude, nobody can answer why flights are delayed or cancelled. Don't even get me started on the outrageous baggage fees and limitations, what a complete joke. The food on the flight from FCO to SFO was barely passable as edible. On a 13 hour flight they passed out drinks 3 times, if you need anything, don't bother ringing your call light, nobody comes, you have to go find your flight attendant and ask for what you need. You seriously couldn't pay me to fly on this airline again! Seriously, beware! I wish I would have read more reviews before booking! ITA, do better. read more

Arrived at Miami airport check-in at 6:30pm as we approached the counter the person behind the counter was leaving we called her and she ignored us (a group of 4 people) as a result we missed the flight and consequently they canceled the return flight to USA, obviously they had the flight overbooked and they gave our seats to other people even though our seats were assigned, so we had to spend a night at a Hotel and rebook the flight with another airline, lots of calls were made to Ita Airline and everyone we talked to were very rude and even nasty, to make simple they try to say you paid you didn't fly it's your loss, but why cancel our return flight. So this so called Airline between hotel meals rebooking of the flights cost us $2,500 per couple. Stay away from Ita- airline very bed service nd costumer service SUCKS read more
