A friend of mine, with whom I collaborated on social media, was visiting Miami from Colombia. Since I had some days to spare, I decided to book a last-minute flight from LA to Miami to meet her. I was able to find a red-eye flight. I had low expectations for this airline, but fortunately, the flight was not bad at all. The seats were okay in comfort. It is true that most things are a-la-carte on this airline. However, I appreciate getting a large bottle of water, as opposed to the small cups other airlines give me. The food and snacks were okay in quality, and I appreciate them actually having good on this overnight flight, as other airlines (ahem, American Airlines) do not stock food on their overnight flights. The crowd, for the most part, was not too bad. In fact, only one old salt on my row had some attitude, but that was put down fast. The arrival at Miami airport was on time, and baggage claim took a reasonable amount of time. Looking back, I would not rule out flying on Spirit if I had to. The experience was decent. read more

Okay, I'll admit--I boarded Spirit with a suitcase full of low expectations and emergency snacks... but I was pleasantly surprised! We flew non-stop to Los Angeles as a family and somehow made it there without turbulence, chaos, or extra charges. The boarding process was efficient, the plane was clean, and the flight attendants were friendly and helpful (one even cracked a few jokes that made my kid laugh louder than the engine). Sure, there are no frills, but if you're looking to get from point A to L.A. without draining your bank account, this flight is it. I can't beat the cheaper travel deal spirit offers! I downloaded the app as well! So far so good! So as I walked on the plane one of the flight attendants said hello which is good and I'm surprised the seats are black leather which is nice. They do give you 1 free bag above your seat or you can put a bag under your seat! I put mine under my seat! So they make you choose your seats before hand which is quite interesting. This was my first time traveling with Spirit Airlines. To be honest with you, due to utube and other things that are publicized, Spirit had not been given a fair chance. Flight 310 coming from staff is and will be one of the greatest staffs I've flown with. Leah should be inducted into the Hall of Fame for superior services. After paying, I got back in line and was joking with my husband when she suddenly accused me of calling her "fat." Spirit Airlines is an ultra low cost carrier in the US. This was my first time flying this airline carrier. Honestly many people have come to associate the low-cost carrier with poor-quality service and safety concerns. However, contrary to popular belief, flying Spirit Airlines is actually quite safe. The Airbus aircraft that we flew in was brand new, so brand new that it has no wifi, and snacks/drinks are for purchase. Moreover, their passenger seats have thin covered cushions and hard plastic metal frame which has very little leg room and does not recline. It's disheartening that seats don't have those back pouches nor a usb port or an in-flight screen flight destination map. Flight and luggage check-in was a breeze and less stressful. Spirit staff (F/A and airport checkin) were cordial, competent and professional. Our flight was smooth all the way to NY with very little air pocket turbulence. Overall, I had an interesting flight, slight discomfort but definitely saved a lot of money. Plus I like their yellow color aircraft. Recommend this airline for short flights only. read more

Let's make that crystal clear in the review: I booked this trip through a third-party site. I could have selected other airlines, but I chose Spirit for the outbound flight because there was no additional cost compared to my inbound JetBlue flight, which was a great experience. However, I ended up paying $150 for two bags online ($75 each). Buying at the airport would have been even worse -- $158. That means baggage alone was almost half the cost of my entire round-trip ticket and nearly the price of a one-way fare. The base fare may look cheap, but the true cost is shocking. You're only allowed a very small personal item for free. The seat cushion is noticeably shorter than standard airline seats, making the flight uncomfortable. There are no complimentary snacks or drinks. What initially seemed like a good value turned out to be anything but. I will not be flying Spirit again. read more

On flight 2228 I had the best experience ever with Flight attendants Aaron, Roxane, Bailey, Connie, and Toni! They all deserve promotions! They were the most thoughtful and caring staff that I have ever flown with and made such a deliberate effort to make sure we were cared for and had an enjoyable flight! They were so caring to go above and beyond anything that we were asking for! We had such great conversations throughout the flight that made me excited to travel with Spirit in the future! Worst experience ever. Booked Spirit from LAX to Fort Lauderdale on 12/18/25. Arrived over 2 hours early, printed boarding passes, and tagged our prepaid checked luggage at the self-service kiosk. The problem? The service desk was severely understaffed with no separate line for luggage drop-off. After waiting in line for over an hour, we were told they would no longer accept checked luggage--even though we had valid boarding passes and prepaid bags. That effectively denied us boarding, since you can't go through security with checked luggage. To make matters worse, all Spirit flights for the next three days were full, forcing us to book last-minute tickets on another airline the next morning to avoid missing our cruise. We spent over $1,000 for 2 tickets as a result. The nightmare didn't end there. For weeks, I tried contacting customer service--long hold times, no help. When I finally reached someone via chat, they claimed my case "wasn't covered" and offered a $30 voucher. Insulting. I have always wanted to give Spirit Airlines the benefit of the doubt. I love the friendliness of all of the staff and how they do their best to work at a company that is so cheap with awful standards. I also love the selection of their flights and the prices. I was excited about the one-way flights from Baltimore to LAX so that I could see my family with minimal flight delay. Especially after I had such an awful experience with a flight delay with American Airlines. One time I was stuck in Dallas with nowhere to go overnight and I never wanted to experience that again. I also loved the Spirit website and the accessibility for changing flights, and the price differences seemed reasonable. Unfortunately, I had the worst experience of my life with Spirit more than any airline this week. I was going to visit my family in Los Angeles from Baltimore. I just joined the Navy this year, and it's been wonderful. The Navy has been exceptionally helpful with me taking care of my family and addressing their health concerns while I am away during my training process. While I received permission from the command to take leave for a few days to help my grandmother get the healthcare she needed, we all read the itinerary as me returning home September 4. Thankfully the manager at Spirit allowed me to purchase an additional one-way ticket for $99 that would be leaving in the next hour, so I cancelled everything and took off to LAX. The flight delayed for 3 hours due to maintenance issues and paperwork. Eventually, they made everyone exit the plane and go back to ticketing to make sure that they could make their connecting flights. Sure enough, I could not make mine and I was supposed to be back first thing in the morning. The ticketing agent informed me that the next available flight would arrive two days from then. I asked them if they had anything from any other airport, like Bob Hope from Burbank. The agent said, "No." he then refunded me partially, not including the extra $99 I had paid for the specific flight. I was in too much of a panic to find my next flight that I didn't even realize they hadn't refunded me all the way - and I couldn't believe what happened next. On the flyaway shuttle, I began searching for other flights, only to find out that there was indeed a flight from Bob Burbank to Baltimore - the first airline on the list, Spirit. I don't know if the agent was just incorrect or flat out lying, but they had given me a partial refund and told me that there were no flights going from Bob Hope to Baltimore on the day that I needed - and it was the very first flight that popped up in Google! So while my ex-husband extracted our two sleeping children to pick me up from the Van Nuys flyaway shuttle in the middle of the night, I was on a 40 minute phone call with Spirit - who told me they could not rectify this error because they already gave me the partial refund that was not yet reflecting in my account. So they were asking me to pay double for a flight that they told me did not exist, after wasting hours of my time, my family's time, and embarrassing me in front of my command. I borrowed my ex-husband's credit card to pay for my flight home - - through United. There was no way I would ever give spirit money ever again. To add insult to injury, I received a notification from my bank that I was overdrafted because they still continued to process the $99 that I had paid extra for the ticket that did not even happen. They refused to process the refund or stop the pending payment. Thankfully, my credit union stopped their payment immediately and reversed all my overdraft fees. I highly recommend First Entertainment Credit Union. I've been with them for 10 years now and they never let me down. Well, I think there are wonderful people that work at Spirit airlines, I think that their policies are trash and they like to steal from others. I will never fly from that company again because I don't think they are ethical. On the flip side, I had a great time with United. Dear Department of Transportation, I am writing to file a formal complaint against Spirit Airlines regarding a significant service failure that resulted in my family and I missing our flight and being denied a proper refund. This incident occurred on [insert date, e.g., December 21, 2025], involving Flight 1300 from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to our final destination of XPL, with a connection in Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).. We arrived at the DTW airport at 3:00 AM for our scheduled 6:00 AM departure, which provided us with 3 hours prior to the flight--well in advance of the recommended check-in time. Upon arrival, we encountered an extremely long check-in line that extended back to the entrance of the terminal. The self-service kiosks were not operational until 4:00 AM, further delaying the process. We waited in line with our three children (a total of three tickets for the group), but there was minimal progress. No updates or explanations were provided by Spirit Airlines staff regarding the delays. The employees appeared disorganized, incompetent, and confused, which exacerbated the situation for all passengers. Due to these delays caused by Spirit Airlines' inadequate staffing and operational inefficiencies, we were unable to check our bags in time and were informed that we would not make our flight. Despite being at the airport 2 hours and 45 minutes early (after the kiosks opened), we were denied boarding solely because of the airline's failure to handle check-in procedures efficiently. Following this, we contacted Spirit Airlines to request a full cash refund, as the missed flight prevented us from reaching our destination in time for the holidays, where we planned to visit our 96-year-old grandmother. Spirit Airlines had no alternative flights available to get us to XPL on the same day or in a timely manner. However, the airline refused to issue a cash refund and instead only offered credit for future travel, which is unacceptable given that the disruption was entirely due to their operational shortcomings and not any fault of our own. Under U.S. Department of Transportation regulations, passengers are entitled to a full refund in their original form of payment when an airline causes a significant delay or cancellation that results in denied boarding. Spirit Airlines' refusal to provide a cash refund violates these passenger rights, and their lack of alternative options left us stranded without recourse. I flew with this airline last week, and it was my worst trip experience. I traveled from Italy to LAX (Los Angeles), an 11-hour flight. Shockingly, they did not even provide water for free. If you wanted water, you had to pay for it. They didn't offer any complimentary snacks--not even peanuts. Anything you wanted, you had to purchase from their onboard store. I have never seen an international airline that doesn't serve at least water and a snack on such a long flight. I will never fly with this airline again. read more

I can not stress how beyond thrilled I am this airline is close to shutting down. I am kicking my feet in pure glee. A few weeks ago I was informed my flight that I made in December was canceled and they offered me a refund or a replacement flight. The replacement flight consisted of FOUR layovers and 46 HOURS of travel time. My original flight was only 4 hours long. So I obviously declined that option and opted for the refund. When I spoke with the useless customer service representative they informed me that they couldn't find my booking anymore because the flight was canceled so they can't refund me. It took me over 10 HOURS of back and forth before I just decided to dispute the charge on my credit card. (I got my money back immediately and the case was resolved) Long story short if Spirit airlines has no haters it is because I am dead. read more

Most expensive unnecessary charge for carry on baggage $99 and the counter person failed to make it for both ways. So have to pay an additional $65 for carry on back home. Cost me more than the flight alone! RIP OFF called customer service and not willing to assist, bad service and cost too much! read more

If I could I would rate it 0. Flight took 2 days departure and return. Staff had bad energy and consider a fanny b pack a personal item. I was to consolidate or pay $90 for a small item (fanny pack). Due to delay in connecting flight I almost missed checking in my hotel room. Fortunately I was able to schedule for the next day. No apologies for delays. When questioned they acted like I was the one wrong. This was a horrific experience. This is my first and last time traveling with spirit airline. A 3.30. trip ended up being 2 days going and returning. Canceled flights, delays and a price for everything including water. I tried to cancel and was told it was $19 per person. This airline needs to go out of business. read more

We got to Florida and they told us the flight to Newark NJ was cancelled along with 10 plus other flights. We waiting in the service line for over 10 hours, from 6pm to around2am, just for them to send us to another line where the "managers are." We waited another hour for them to tell us there is nothing they can do. No reimbursement, no hotel, no rebooking, no nothing. I had to go to sleep on the airport floor as I am pregnant and can't sleep sitting.We had to rent a car to drive 17 hours to NJ. This airline sucks and I will strongly advise against using this airline because if something happens (which it will) you will NOT get your money back nor will they help you. read more

I'm sure I'm not saying anything new. But never fly Spririt. From the front desk to the pilots, to operations. It's like the inmates running the asylum We got delayed for 3 hours. Then right before take off a flight attendant "got sick" and needed to de-plane. Dude looked fine to me. the new flight attendant wasn't "approved". so it took forever to finally take off. the 7:11 flight is now taking off at 11:06. We've boarded and deplaned numerous times. The worst Airline to fly. Delays after Delays 3 hrs from LAX to Florida . Except the connecting flight that I needed to take left on time. Has to wait 7 hrs for next flight then it was also delayed do another 1 hr ...Total 8 hrs and only for a $20 food voucher read more

I am extremely upset with the disgraceful service of this airline. The staff were rude--as if they earn a commission for mistreating people. I had a carry-on bag that was measured and clearly met the requirements, yet they insisted it did not just to charge me. On top of that, your own website shows the carry-on fee as $67, but I was charged $99, with complete disrespect and staff laughing in my face. Clearly, there is no supervision in place and absolutely no sense of professionalism or basic manners. read more
