It's my first time to fly under this airline heading to Asia and it's just appropriate to compare my experiences against others. My plane left Los Angeles International (LAX) exactly as scheduled, flight preparations were organized and folks got in line according to their assigned zones. Many of our senior citizens in wheelchairs were allowed first and there were a lot of staff who facilitated the departure protocols. The flight was very smooth with some bumpy ride along the mid-flight but seems comparably similar with any other flights I've taken everywhere. The stewards and stewardesses seemed not so sweet and focused, not the usual, can we offer you something"? I'd say, it's probably cultural although this are just observations on my part, since this time, I bought an economy class ticket during the last minute. Eva Air has the best food compared to other airlines that fly the SEA route, chicken pasta, Chinese-style cooking and a comprehensive fruits and sandwich galore accompanied our meals. The timeline for serving food and snacks was perfect, not so late nor early, just about right. They also seem to recognize our need to sleep and allowed quiet and dark during our flight and bathrooms were also clean and fully packed with everything we needed. One observation is the wide seats and better spacing of their plane compared to other Asian airlines, who pack their seats and seem very tight and skimpy. The stay over transition was alright although they (Eva Airlines transition staff) keep asking for printed tickets in Taiwan when some of us had difficulty activating our phones to show them our online boarding tickets. Since passengers aren't able to access anywhere, they should have a better way of not trying make us feel, we have to painstakingly look for a WiFi access (was too weak for an international airport and inconvenient to those travelers just passing by) to be able to show them our boarding tickets again! Flew Eva Air business class earlier this year. It was one of the best in terms of service. With American carriers, I have experienced annoyed looks by flight attendants when I've requested an item (such as a can of juice or additional utensil, ie nothing out of the ordinary), however on Eva Air the flight attendants were always ready to help with a smile and I felt very taken care of. The food was excellent with nice glassware and plated beautifully. I liked it so much that I flew them again to Japan despite a longer travel time (they connect through Taipei) rather than paying for mediocre service on an American carrier. read more

I had a great experience with this airline flying from LA to Taipei non stop round trip. I am generally a delta loyalist so was a little hesitant to fly EVA but it turned out great. I paid a slight up charge to sit exit row in economy -- my seat was extremely spacious and had a blanket w/ 2 pillows waiting for me when I arrived. I have been impressed by EVA air. We flew Royal class and the service was excellent. Greeted with pillows, slippers, blankets, a drink and Godiva chocolate as soon as I sat down. The chair reclines all the way that it's flat so you can actually sleep. Pillows were comfortable. The screen was big and the movie options were good. I recently went on the ultimate dream trip to Tokyo, Japan! Being the biggest Hello Kitty fan, it was also my ultimate dream to be a passenger on the Hello Kitty Eva Air jet. It just seemed to right to go on my dream trip in my dream plane! Booking a flight on the Hello Kitty Eva Air jet can be a little tricky. They do have a website called evakitty.com but it doesn't list just Hello Kitty flights and I found it a bit confusing and in certain cases not accurate. It was also a bit hard to contact someone in Eva Air. I hope they do something about this in the future because it stinks for Hello Kitty fans like me if you are targeting to get on a Hello Kitty plane and don't get on one (almost subtract a star Yelp review worthy). It's all about the days - Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and day time is when the Hello Kitty jet flies out of LAX. Happily though I did manage to get on the Hello Kitty Eva air flight and I was such a fan of every single Sanrio detail they had. I got on the Sanrio Family flight and both outside and inside of the jet was Hello Kitty galore. Inside the head rests, pillows, waste bags, safety manuals, bathroom essentials, cups and utensils were all Hello Kitty and friends! I was so very Hello Kitty happy! The food Eva Air serves is also pretty good. They have choices between Western or Asian meals. If you do want special meals like vegetarian, seafood or kids meal you have to do that online 24 hours ahead or you will not get it. I've been flying Eva airlines for about 3 years straight and I have to stay they are one of the best airlines out in the industry. I know it sounds weird but you would think a lot of airlines would want to listen to their customers and opinions but many don't. Every flight that I have flown has never been delayed, or even canceled. The service has been so good sometimes I feel like I should tip the stewardess also! Most of the time I fly to Taiwan and this time around I was able to get on a Hello Kitty themed airplane. If you haven't heard of this I don't know where you have been living. I feel like it is every females dream to ride in one. It's over-ally cute and if your a Hello Kitty fan you will just be in awe the whole time. The airplane from the bathroom, chairs, pillows and even your plastic cups have Hello Kitty designed on them. They also do sell some duty free products that are super nice and affordable, just that you have to be specially ok that flight. I fly Eva every single time that I end up in Taiwan and have to say it is one of the best places to visit and explore. read more

ITS TRUE! Doing the same thing and expecting a different result is INSANE. We had a family emergency and I called CheapOair to get a rush ticket to China. They had a flight leaving Chicago same day in 6 hours. Yea! I will take it I replied. (You might have seen my previous post on EVA airlines and know how I feel about EVA airlines. 1. At the gate EVA charged additional $100. to do a name (family name/ first name) swap. 2. The return flight was from Shanghai to Taipei then on to Chicago. Expecting to depart from Shanghai I discovered at the airport EVA stopped all flights from China to Taiwan. EVA recommended no other options to get me back to the US. RESULT: EVA left me stranded in Shanghai. I had to call back to US family and paid for a different airline $1200.00 ticket to get me back home. The EVA ticket office does not work weekends and customer service is trash. Still trying to get my additional cost refunded. Please, I don't recommend using this airline. My first time (09/2023) I was burned by EVA and I did not learn my lesson. This time I was torched .... Never again! I give EVA air a No Star but forced to give a 1 star. read more

When I have questions about upgrading to business class they weren't able to get me a pricing on that. Never flying with EVA Air again. The phone number for the main call center is constantly busy and just tells you to call again then hangs up on you. I'll have to agree with other reviewers of EVA Airlines. It's is wonderful. Their service is top notch! I've flown EVA in the economy and economy deluxe (now called evergreen deluxe class/elite class) classes. In the 777 plane that I flew this month, there are 8 seats across in the economy deluxe section and 9 seats across in the economy section. I noticed in the business class there are 6 seats across. The last two times I've flown to Taipei, I've gone economy deluxe and it's definitely worth the extra money (but the fare difference has gone up). I seem to remember the difference around $200 about three years ago and in 5/2008 the price difference is about $400 now. Like people have said, there is a TV for every seat and you can watch TV/movies, listen to music, play video games, make phone calls and possibly check the internet. The food is catered to two different tastes - one Asian and one American. The staff is very courteous and will make every possible effort to make you comfortable. I will definitely fly EVA in the future. The flight from Los Angeles to Taipei was 14 hours. The flight from Taipei to Los Angeles was 12 hours. Cheers! read more

I have flown EVA air for over 30 years, mostly in business class or economy premium, and the service has always been impeccable until recently. Let me break it down why I'm going giving them 3 stars: 1. the lounge at the Taipei airport was overcrowded and not too comfortable. I finally went to the Priority lounge. I would think that if Taipei is their flagship lounge, it should be really nice. 2. people at the airport counters were very nice 3. food on the plane was ok. I would give it 4 stars, but it used to be better 4. the service on the plane was very average. I was sitting in business class and when I finished my meal, i still had to wait for almost 30 minutes before they would clear my tray. 6 hours into the flight, I got up to get some snacks, and 3 flight attendants were sitting in the galley chatting and eating, but no one got up to ask me if i needed any help. The meal before landing also lacked good service. In fact, my coffee was cold. 5. because of the way the seats are configured, I felt the shape of the bed was really narrow towards my feet, and I just couldn't get super comfortable, even though I am only 5'4" 6. the pajamas were super comfortable. I hope EVA will improve. Meanwhile, I have booked my next flight to Taiwan on China Airlines. I will follow up with another review. read more

Eva airline cancelled the flights and just notice the passengers to change the schedule. People used the StarAliance mileage to upgrade to business class were cancel with no reasons. Also the StarAliance mileages have been used for the cancel flight need to wait for 7-10 days to return to customer. Eva airline should honor the business class instead of cancelling it. read more

This one star review is only for telephone customer service, the airline itself is great. As for the phone service and the online service - it sucks. You can't book Star Alliance flights on the web, even though the have it set up for you. Once you've gone through the whole process it basically says it can't be done online and you must call customer service. When calling the Los Angeles number (or any of the other numbers in the US for that matter) the initial recording has you push the 1 button for English and again push 1 for passengers. Then, almost always the next recording says all operators are busy and to try back. Then it disconnects you. I tried all day long and finally around 4PM I got through. At least, I was put on hold and not cut off. After another 20 minutes or so, a woman answered and said she couldn't hear me. She said this two or three times than hung up. Very frustrating. If you want to use your miles for a Star Alliance flight this is the only way to book it. Last year I was actually able to get through once and even then the woman said all flight were booked and that Star Alliance only provides limited seats for EVA air. EVA Airlines has the absolute worst customer service I have ever encountered. Here's a photo of the amount of time I spent on the phone with them, to get NO RESOLUTION. Waited over 10 minutes to talk to a supervisor, who either does not care about customer service, or has no actual ability to make decisions. Back in December, I bought roundtrip flights for my family to visit Taiwan for a long overdue trip to visit family and friends. I bought them from Chicago, and figured we could visit our old hood. Then in January, I found out I'm pregnant. We talked it through, and thought it would be worth it to change the departure city to LAX, in order to save myself the extra few hours of flight time. Traveling pregnant, with toddler... gotta get the shortest flight possible! First, they promised to change our previously booked flights (ORD to TPE) to a new flight (LAX to TPE) for $375, even thought the new flight was $300 CHEAPER than the original. They said I could change the flight online, so since my phone was dying I said I'd just take that route. Fast forward 2 weeks, and their website doesn't actually let me change the flights since I'm changing the departure city. I get on the phone and call them, and even though the new flight is still $200 cheaper than the old, they now want to charge me $475! When I questioned the extra $100 they just said "that's what their system shows". Supervisor got me nowhere, but wasted another 25 minutes of my time. The best part? They informed me you can apply for a refund, which takes BETWEEN 2-4 WEEKS! Are they putting our money in the stock market, or what? In this day of Paypal and Square, how it can take a month to get a $3000 refund is beyond me. Again, got the "that's how long our system takes" response. I've taken dozens of flights on EVA between 2001-2010. Their customer service used to be stellar. I'm not sure what's happened, but now I'm praying for United or China Air to start nonstops to Taipei. Goodbye EVA! Your "system" SUCKS. read more

Purchased tickets to Thailand. Had to cancel. Cancelling is easy, but refund "application" online requires a 13-digit ticket number, but they send only a 12-digit number. No possibility for email or live-chat. Calling Customer Service in L.A. or 800 number results in "All lines are busy. Please call back." All numbers for EVA result in the same message. This has been 6 days now that I have been trying to reach them. What racket are they running here? I've heard they have had a family fight and some members have started a new airline. Terrible service. I have been carrying valuables in my bag for many countries on a year long trip. Zero issues in 4 flights. Eva Airways staff on the ground in Chiang Mai were lovely. I told them my bag had valuables in it and if they could mark it as fragile. They did. It also got a "heavy" marking as well. The flight was mostly pleasant, save for some rude stewardesses banging aggressively on the toilet when I was using it and it was time to land. I mean... I can only go as fast as I can go. I've been flying over 3 decades and never once had an attendant shout at me through a door. Anyway... the real issue is when I get my bag home and look at it, there's a massive hole in it. Worse, a valuable vase is smashed to pieces. When I message customer service, I get the biggest pile of bullshit I've seen from a customer service rep. They give me a 3-5 day estimate, and when I message on day 10, they give me an "offer" which is 2/3rds of the expenses of my torn bag and smashed vase. My lost expense on new - ripped open - luggage, plus the vase totaled around $80. These insulting cheapskates offered $50. Pathetic. I won't be flying with Eva again. They'll lose a lot more than the $30 they tried to penny pinch. read more

We flew EVA from Taipei to Los Angeles this winter. It was a nice comfortable flight. I really liked their seat for business class ( I guess they call it Royal Laurel Class ). It is a lie-flat bed with fixed panel so you can have your own privacy feeling like you are in a small room. I am not that tall so I don't usually have problem with leg room but it was quite spacious even my husband who is 6 ft was able to stretch out. They also provide you with nice 2 pieces sleepwear and cute overnight kits that come in small Rimowa luggage case. I have flown with China Airlines, Japan Airlines, and United Airlines between Los Angeles and Taiwan, but so far, seating wise, I liked EVA the most. As for the food, it was enjoyable for an in-flight meal. They served Din Tai Fung steamed beef soup and spicy shrimp and pork wontons which were tasty but little too much garlic especially on an airplane... Seafood noodle was pretty good, too. In regards to service, I think Japanese airlines are better, but I will keep on flying with EVA just for that comfy seating. read more

This was my first time flying Eva air (business class) and I was really impressed. The staff is extremely hospitable, friendly, and also beautiful. Some of the flight attendants did look like they should be movie stars like other reviews have mentioned. The food was better than most airline food and served every 4 hours or so. The service was 5 star all the way. I was thankful that they did not wake me up to feed me, but instead offered me a snack and juice when I did finally come to... Oh and did I mention they pour Dom Perignon?! As far as the VIP lounge goes, it was very nice. Dimly lit, roomy and nicely decorated. Full spread of snacks, cakes, noodles, and full drink selection from soy milk to gin. Too bad I wasn't very hungry. Next time :) Lots and lots of leg room plus a chair that reclines to a bed ensured me a good nights sleep during my 14+ hour flight. I also love that they provide down pillows and blankets. (Not the usual cheap fleece.) They also include complimentary slippers, cushy headphones, plenty of hot towels, and facial misters. read more

Eva Air is Taiwan's carrier. I got to ride in their new B777-300ER. Pretty comfortable seats, even in economy. Every single seat has its own personal screen and controls to play video games, watch TV programs, or block buster movies. For an additional price, you can check email inflight too. The food isn't very good, but I do like the instant noodles they give as snacks. They serve Asian and western cuisines, I had porridge for breakfast. However, if you ride in the Elite or Laurel classes, they have DIN TAI FUNG! I have enough miles to upgrade on my return, so hopefully there will be some seats available Free unlimited beer and wine. ---------- update: Before there were 4 classes: Dynasty, Business, Deluxe, and Economy. Now it's Elite, Laurel, and Economy. Airplane food is always shitty regardless if you travel Econ or Econ plus. Though Econ plus gives you a little more room and slightly less shittier food. Shit food is why you try to amass all your points with one airline to be able to use things like the VIP lounges. Free snacks and drinks there away from the commoners, and when you are flying back from tpe, you get a whole damn buffet. Alcohol included. Eva is one of the easier planes to fly on, in terms of how easy on the eyes the stewardeses look. Ten points for having hotties without attitudes. China airlines, you best step your game up. The lines are long as hell at lax so if youfly Econ pro, you get to bypass the line. Worth every penny. About 250 per way more unless you've amassed points. The planes are nicer than china airlines and Cathay on the most part but Cathay food is better. Movie selection is great and everyone gets your own screen. You may want to old off on duty free shopping till the plane cuz a lot of times they have around 20% off. read more

10 years ago, I flew Phillipine Airlines. 5 years ago, I flew Cathay Pacific Airlines. This year, I flew EVA! This has been the best airline I have taken on my trips to Vietnam. Perhaps the other airlines have gotten better with time. PROS: *Special ordered VEGETARIAN MEAL (pretty much vegan), every meal was delicious! See uploaded photos. *NEWSPAPERS such as Wall Street Journal were available to grab right before boarding. *SLIPPERS were given to keep feet comfy and smelly-free. *Great selection of movies, music, &c. for ENTERTAINMENT. *SNACKS, good mix of sweet and salty. *Nice FLIGHT ATTENDANTS. (I would have liked to see some male flight attendants. :) *Cute LAYOVER in Taiwan, most of it is Hello Kitty themed! (The wait to transfer was only a few hours, too.) CONS: Economy class always sucks on any airline, I'm guessing. No matter where you sit, it sucks! When it comes to long hour flights (10 hours+), I'm going to try upgrading to business class next time. This is a great airline and it's very underrated. Customer service is great both at the counter and on the plane. I find that they are very accommodating to different situations that you may face when traveling. The planes itself are clean. The food on the plane is actually really good. The entertainment on the plane is great; lots of movies, t.v. shows, and music. Eva has a great safety record. There might be delayed flights sometimes, but that's pretty understandable for long international flights. The only con is that the plane is always jammed with people. Long lines. Luggage could be slow to come out. They also have a special Hello Kitty plane you might be on. Lots of fun and very cute. Note- Eva is part of Star Alliance now. read more

EVA is definitely the airline to fly when going to Asia. I flew exclusively on Cathay Pacific, until 2009 when they devalued their miles. Ever since late '09, I've crossed the pacific ocean maybe 20 times using EVA. Here's my comprehensive review of EVA Air. Reservations: Compare a chinatown travel agent with the site every time you fly. You'd be surprised what fares the agencies can get you. But sometimes EVA site is still cheaper. US-Asia Fares: Pretty much comparable to China airlines but you are flying on newer aircraft. If you can spend a few hundred dollars, Elite class is well worth it. Asia-Asia Fares: EVA is usually more expensive than other airlines for asia-asia fares. Check-In Service: In Taiwan its not too bad because its their hub, but its HORRID in LAX especially on nights when 2 EVA flights depart minutes apart... imagine 400-500 people needing to check in at the same time. Elite class or online check in can definitely shorten your wait a bit. VIP Lounge: They use a shared lounge in LAX. Pretty much a bunch of waiting room chairs with coffee tables with slow internet access, free snacks and drinks... nothing very special, but better than fighting the crowd at the boarding gate. Baggage Service Into Taiwan: Its very fast regardless of what class you fly. Quick Taiwanese efficiency. Baggage Service into LAX: Horrible. Again, its LAX airport staff you deal with... EVA has no control over that. On Board Service: Economy/Elite are pretty much the same, the food is not very different, its mainly more comfy seats. Its pretty much a-ok. Mileage Value: Each mile is equivalent to about $0.0075 in benefits. Every 4000 miles gets you a $30 discount on future fares. Its pretty low when it comes to benefits but if you think about it, each roundtrip across the pacific comes out to about $75 in benefits. But for the casual traveler, its a way to prevent idle miles from going to waste, at least its a way to cash out. Don't use the 5000 miles for lounge access, its totally not worth it. My Advice? Credit your United Mileage Plus - much more useful, many more destinations than EVA. So why 4 star instead of 5? Read below: Website: Their website looks like its from the 90's compared to the websites of US-based airlines or even CX. Its not very user friendly, and I still get lost at times. For an airline that spent billions of dollars on brand new aircraft, you'd think that they can spend a few thousand dollars to modernize the look and feel. But, perhaps its due to an aging management team not seeing the "need" to modernize. Also, most of TW is a bit old fashioned and still use travel agencies, I think most their tickets are booked offline anyways. Their reservation system is pretty archaic... My one negative experience with them is changing a flight. Four phone calls to the same office in two depts can give you 4 different answers. Computer systems between Taiwan and LA doesn't seem to be very streamlined even though they fly between the two locations. I called TW to change a flight, it was approved. Called LAX to pay for the change, they said a different answer. Food - It has seen improvement over the years to where it is decent. HINT!!! For faster service, order "special meal" when booking your flight... they will pass those to you first. Pricing structure/fare rules - sometimes does not make sense. I had a midnight flight (more expensive and desirable than daytime flights), wanted to change to a cheaper, mid day flight but was denied by 3 reps and approved by the 4th. They need to work on this. Mileage Accumulation: They lowered this recently without raising the miles. Its really a passive aggressive way of devaluing your miles without you knowing it. So if you buy a lower fare class, you might get 50% mile accumulation. Instead of making miles worth less, you'd accumulate miles a bit slower. Gold benefits - Main benefit is free lounge access, priority boarding and luggage. Other than that, I've only gotten one upgrade in more than a dozen trans pacific roundtrips. However, chance of OP UP is higher when you fly within asia. So there it is.... long long review of EVA. During the past four months, I have traveled business class from on, Japan Airlines, Korean Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, EVA Airlines, Thai Airlines & Cathay Pacific. The winner: #1. EVA Airlines o Their business class service on EVA Flight #5 from LAX to Taipei was outstanding. The seating (bedding), food and overall service was perfect. They even give you sleeping wear for your flight. I agree with other reviews that their ground service is not as good as on-board. Second place: #2. Singapore Airlines o The service was very good but surprisingly EVA was a step above for on-board services. Third place: #3. Cathay Pacific o Good but not great service. Comfortable seating configuration. o Wonderful business class lounges in Hong Kong. The others: #4 Lufthansa o Great on-time performance, with solid service. o LH continues to be one of the best to Europe. #5 Japan Airlines o JAL would placed higher as they provide excellent on-board service, however, the business seats on their 787-8 from San Diego to Tokyo are terrible. They are the angled seating and are very uncomfortable. #6 Korean Airlines o Korean's service is always a pleasant surprise. We had solid service throughout the flight. Food selections were a bit limited. #7 Turkish Airlines o On-board food is outstanding. Great business lounge in Istanbul. o Older design (poor) seating configuration; 2-3-2 in business. o Poor on-time performance. Flights were late both directions. #8 Thai Airlines o Thai's service levels have dropped over the past years . For example, although I was seated in the 3rd row of the aircraft, they had already run out of the preferred meal options. o Thai also missed on their lack of on-time performance. read more

Just returned from a flight from LAX to TPE on to BKK - 20+ hours in transit and back with an overnight in TPE which consumed 22 hours. All told we had 4 flight segments with EVA and I'm generally impressed with a few mild criticisms. The good = efficient and professional flight staff. Courtesy and frequent in flight snack service kept our crew busy. It doesn't hurt that the flight attendants were all skewed towards the killer slim & attractive end of the spectrum. Ground staff were similarly polite - efficient and professional. Never before in recent memory have we seen our bags come off so quickly - especially compared to US flag carriers like United and AA. Also of merit are the in-flight entertainment options with a wide variety of media + 3 prong plugs with USB outlets. Further details noted included the smart and tasteful use of a live looking flower + well arranged and maintained amenities in the toilet stalls. Every time I went into the lavoratory it looked like it had just been refreshed!? Well - almost every time it was well maintained. 3-3-3 seating on our aircraft meant we had a fraction more space then we might expect from other carriers - IE - from US flagged carriers like United or AA. The leg room and degree of recline were impressive. Further compliments go out for the in flight dining options and fare. We had a variety of standard dishes + we ordered special seafood options on our final flight home. Nearly all was good with our party of 4 trying a variety of options which are pictured below. So why didn't I go higher then 4 stars? Well - the seat in the row next to ours on the flight from TPE to LAX was at the front row. A couple with an infant were seated. They had a cute bassinett hung from the front wall + an odd arrangement for their flip out TV monitor. I watched with amusement as a flight attendant wrapped several layers of white duct tape around the arm of the flip out monitor to hold it together in position. It was physically broken but serviceable. Sigh. Then on the BKK to TPE segment my aircraft had a non-functional video system for half the flight. It was electrically dead until half way through the flight I must have jarred something in the control box because it sprang into life? Further criticisms - The seats are showing a bit of age as are the aircraft. In small but subtle ways you can tell the aircraft are well maintained but of a certain age. Add to that I have to say they kept the lights on longer then they should have IMO for an overnight flight that we boarded just after midnight - to land 13 hours later from LAX to TPE. With darkened cabin I could have fallen asleep much sooner - so I remained up and mildly agitated for a short while in the too bright cabin. My last petty complaint - almost every time I got a beverage the cups were a bit small and not full enough. I know it avoids spillage to not be more full - but I found myself asking for two servings to get as much as I wanted to drink. Overall - I have to tip my proverbial hat off to EVA for delivering an excellent overall experience for a reasonable low price from LA to BKK. EVA Airlines has the worst customer services ever. They don't answer their phones and their management sucks. They should fire their managers immediately for allowing this to happen. No other airline is currently treating their customers this badly. They texted us a flight change last night and we cannot get a hold of anyone. They are super disorganized. read more
