Another visit to ITA101 and another fabulous meal! On a Friday morning we made reservations for that same night at 7:15pm on Open Table. We arrived a little over 15 minutes before our reservation and were seated immediately. I love the size of the restaurant. Compact with tables set very close together adds what feels like a small, homey vibe to your dining experience. Our server was outstanding! He brought energy, knowledge of the menu, professionalism, and class. He elevated our experience and may have been the best server we've had at ITA since we've been frequenting. When dining at ITA, like always, we always have to order a variety of dishes to split. We started with a perfectly cooked Oven Roasted Cauliflower appetizer. Split 3 different pastas: a rich & savory Carbonara (probably the star of the night), a gorgeous cavatelli with tender wild boar ragu, and a spicy but balanced capellini with spare ribs. All of their pasta, of course, is made in house and is beautiful and rustic, and is always cooked perfectly Al dente with a great bite. The combination of the creaminess of the sauce, the saltiness and texture of the guanciale, and the doneness of the tagliolini; led us to agree that the Carbonara was our favorite. We were split on the other two, but you can't go wrong with any of the pasta dishes on the menu. We've never had one we weren't blown away by. The entree we chose was a fluke stuffed with shrimp and served over a bed of shiitakes. The crust on the fluke was to die for and the presentation couldn't have been better. ITA is always such an elevated dining experience. You'll be hard pressed to find local, authentic Italian food that is as unique as it is here. There are a couple things we really love about it here other than what I've already mentioned earlier in this review. First, it's great that it's BYO as it helps offset the prices (which are well worth it for the quality of food served) as we can split and enjoy a nice bottle of wine with dinner. Second, the menu is constantly rotating every week and part of their menu highlights and features different regions in Italy. There are always new menu items we've never had before. Our waitperson, Carol was excellent. As attentive and polite as any we have ever had. However the wait between courses is long. The food, our appetizer was like bread and pastrami. It was sitting on the tray as it we were to make sandwiches. Nothing remarkable. Our meals came, I ordered pasta in a cheesy, oily sauce. I should say that it looked like they plunked a glob of pasta on the plate. My friend ordered the same thing. When he moved the pasta over, there was a puddle of oil. His wife ordered a boneless chicken leg stuffed with ,I'm not sure. I would say that for the prices , I was not impressed. Sometimes keeping it simple makes it worth the wait. It was our second time there because we went 3 years ago and we were not impressed then. On our 1st visit, they were out of 3 items right off the bat. Our reservation was for 6 pm so I don't understand why they were out of featured items. My friends wife can be picky at times. When she placed her order for her fourth choice, the waitress came back 20 minutes later and informed us that her latest choice was no longer available. I've read so many excellent reviews as well as poor reviews. Perhaps the planets weren't aligned for our two visits. A wonderful experience all around! My gorgeous and super sweet Godson treated a small group of us for his mom's birthday. The restaurant is small and quaint, with simple, understated decor. It's located on Main Street in Medford (adorable and reminds me of Haddonfield). A relatively small menu, with stellar selections. I went with the Halibut, that was accented with a pistachio cream. It was truly excellent! Two others had the stuffed chicken legs. Both loved it! The remaining two had homemade pasta dishes. Both loved it! I had a small pre dinner salad (pretty good) and we were given complimentary homemade Focaccia bread. It looked amazing but I had a carb load at a breakfast baby shower, so I passed (but was drooling!). Carol, our server was so on point, very accommodating and a great photographer (we were all laughing with all the shots and her posing of us - loved it)!!!! My family and I come here often. My parents are regulars. This place tastes like my grandparents kitchen growing up, but classier and a lot more authentic. The service is always quick and kind. We had the worst experience we have had in a restaurant in a long time. Our server was disorganized and not well informed. After a couple of false starts ordering we settled on our order. We received 2 starters, the only ones available, left in a fairly timely manner. After over 45 minutes, and 2 tables that came after us and finished, we got the server's attention. Without explanation we were told it was coming soon. It took over an hour and 4 requests to get an iced tea and some gloppy pasta that was not hot. We are moving to the area and were hoping to find a neighborhood gem. We will not return. read more

First time for us... we heard good things about the restaurant. Our server was very helpful with explaining the variety of pasta choices on the menu. My husband and I ate at one of our favorite restaurants last night, ITA101. We ordered the octopus appetizer which was delicious. The homemade bread was also very delicious. We both ordered the Spaghetti Norma which had fried eggplant and tomato sauce. It was delicious but we both couldn't finish it and took our leftovers home. That is when i got the shocker. I was eating my spaghetti and eggplant and one piece of what I thought was the eggplant was so hard in my mouth. I pulled it out and it was a piece of hard wood which looked like a piece of eggplant and almost broke my tooth. It was disgusting. I could not eat the rest of the meal. I now question what the conditions are like in their kitchen. Unfortunately, now I am very disappointed in ITA. I posted pics of the wood below. read more

Before the pandemic, we had eaten at ITA101 on half a dozen occasions and had been delighted with the food each time. We returned this past weekend for the first time since the pandemic. The food is sublime, and this restaurant still deserves high marks. We started with a caprese salad which was wonderful (where do they get delicious ripe tomatoes at this time of the year in New Jersey?). We also tried "calvolfiore"--oven roasted cauliflower, ricotta, pecorino, and butter sauce. This was novel, delicious, and delightful. For entrees, I tried the pollo al gnocchi (boneless chicken legs stuffed with mustard greens, pecorino & prosciutto honeycomb from mill creek apiary, potato gnocchi with yellow oyster mushrooms, and truffle butter). The gnocchi were tender, light, and, like all of the pasta served at ITA101, are house made.The chicken was well-seared with a crispy skin and filled with a delicious filling that contrasted the bitterness of the mustard greens with sweetness from the honey. It's an inspired combination. This was so amazing that it is difficult to believe my companion's meal surpassed it. The humble brachiole, a mainstay of Italian cooking, was on the regional (Campania) menu. It's typically made with a sturdy cut of beef like flank steak and braised for hours to tenderize the meat. Often, the flavor of brachiole is overwhelmed by a powerful Sugo sauce (a slow cooked red sauce also known as Italian "gravy") in which it is braised. Not here! ITA101's rendition is very different. It has the same ingredients (beef, fontina cheese, oregano, basil, tomato sauce) but adds coco beans. It is served over stewed cannellini beans and the tomato sauce is very light. As a result, the meat and its braising juices are the main event. Our mouths exploded with different flavor sensations from the tender beef, the unctuous gravy, wonderful umami, and a delightful, savory aftertaste...it was amazing. Without any question, this was among the finest entrées I've ever had in an Italian restaurant. I believe it is Michelin star level cooking. The desserts are all house made. I tried the chocolate mousse with red wine poached pears, and my companion had the chocolate lava cake. Both were fitting ends to a delicious meal. On top of the wonderful food, the restaurant additionally gets credits for an efficient, cordial, and skilled wait staff; a varied and expansive menu for a restaurant of this size; and a wonderful ambiance and decor which includes a brick oven from which comes delicious home baked bread. BTW...it is BYOB. We have to drive about 35 miles to get to Medford...but it is worth the trip to dine at a restaurant of this quality. A culinary delight. Real world old world cuisine from the various regions of Italy depending on day. Menu changes frequently and you may have to check it the day you go! Open 4pm to 9:30 and BYOB. Prices are in line with current inflationary trends but not out of sight. Portions appear small but filling. So whether you choose chicken, fish, beef or pasta everything is made to order. Our group was 6 and we had a variety of entrees. The brasato was exquisite, cut with a fork and tasty. Service was pleasant and attentive. We tipped over 20%. Ambiance was adequate, not noisy and when the lights dimmed it entered romantic mode. Now if you get tiramisu don't expect your traditional fare! This is made table side! I had been hearing about ITA101 from a few friends as the hot and newer legit Italian eatery in South Jersey. I am not sure how to pronounce ITA101, is Ita1010 to I-T-A101? Does it stand for a college course in Italain? I guess I should have asked. However it is pronounced, we drove up to Medford on a nice October evening after calling ahead for seating availability. We were told we could have a table outside but inside was full until 9:00 PM. That was fine with us as it was nice enough weather and we were armed with sweaters and light jackets. ITA101 is located right on Main St. in Medford. Street parking is easy to come by. The restaurant space itself looked very nice and casual. It is smaller, and probably only holds 30-40 patrons. As mentioned above we chose to dine outside to snag a table and there were several nice tables right beside the restaurant. ITA101 is BYOB which is great. ITA101 serves a smaller and limited, rotating menu with fresh, local ingredients in a farm to table fashion. The Chef Kevin Maher spent 14 years in Italy honing his craft. What we ordered; Braciole di Maiale con Fungi, Polenta, Gorgonzola -pork chops with chanterelle mushrooms, polenta, gorgonzola. Gramigna di Seppia Nera con Capesante, Gamberi e Rombo-black ink gramigna, scallop, shrimp, fluke, sungold tomato sauce The pork chop was ordered off the weekend Regional menu. This dish was outstanding and the pork was tender and juicy. The polenta was done just right and there were some apples to give this dish a little acidity. The squid ink pasta was also very good and had just the right amount of heat without overpowering the dish. The pork chop however was definitely the highlight. For dessert we had the Torta di Mele con Gelato alle Prugne - apple cake with plum ice cream. This was also very nice and not overly sweet. ITA101 provides a pretty incredible homemade bread. The portion sizes were good but not gigantic. ITA101 is a bit on the pricey side, entrees were $25 to $30 without sides or appetizers. Service was excellent all night. 4 Yelp stars. read more

Looking for something to do on a rainy Thursday yesterday we drove to the sleepy little town of Medford specifically to try this highly touted Italian restaurant. Although very good in all facets of their operation it just lacked what it takes to earn that fifth star. So, our 100 mile round trip jaunt was not in vain but don't think we would do it again any time soon. The food all very good can be seen in my attached photos. Tried this place for the first time. My first impression is that it's a warm intimate ambiance. It's a small establishment so tables are limited and reservations are expected. They do have a 2 hour dining limit to make room for other guests. The staff are attentive, nice and welcoming. The first thing we tired was the fresh baked bread and olive oil which was delicious. It would've been very easy to just fill up on that alone. They bake their bread fresh every day and also sell it by the loaf for those who want to take some home. The menu is limited but they use organic local ingredients so it's a farm to table type place. They use seasonal items which make the meal fresh. They make their own pasta as well. I ordered a pasta dish that I was very much looking forward to trying. Unfortunately, it was so salty that the salt was the only thing I can actually taste. I thought perhaps it was just my meal so I tried a different pasta from my friends dish and it was even saltier. I factor all possible reasons as to why this could happen. Perhaps the type of cheese is extremely salty, or it was just a bad batch. We made no complaints and didn't return our food as I feel it's not always going to make my dining experience better. We received our next course and it was good. Would I come back, yes. Because I don't like to write off an establishment for a one time mishap. Although I would have liked to pay less given my experience , they have many wonderful reviews so I would like to give it a try once more to see if the pasta is better during a different weekly special. read more

One of the best Italian meals I have ever had. We started off with the focaccia bread and buffalo mozzarella, which was so good. We got a second order to take home. For our entrées, my fiancé got the Tuscany regional spaghetti dish, which included squid ink pasta, spinach, and shrimp. I got the Tagliolini with short beef rib Bolognese. Both were very, very good. Small, quaint and BYOB. The pastas here are handmade, fresh and delicious. Squid ink pasta - 4/5, was not mixed evenly so some bites ended up being salty. However, consistency was good and good amount of seafood. Truffled pasta - 4.5/5 - really delicious with tons of truffle. What prevented it from getting 5 stars... No additional toppings (no meat or seafood); in addition, menu listed the pasta as tagliotoni but it looked more like spaghetti.... Overall, would go again. Finally checked out this place. Probably need reservations, excellent food and experience, and bring your own booze. Kind of like restaurants in Italy with primo, first, second course etc, but very laid back. Four of us went and ordered a variety of plates to share or not share. Wait staff is super friendly and helpful, especially with some of the unfamiliar food items. We brought our own wine, no corkage fee. I have to say - everything we ordered was top notch. It's a smallish menu and changes every day. The chef spent years in Italy and it shows. Our table got a lobster and tomato salad, a couple cold gazpacho type soups, braised short rib main courses, and a couple desserts to split. There was more but I just can't remember what we all got. Every single dish that arrived was just wonderful. Can't say enough about the food. Tiramisu is prepared tableside for a fun treat, and the lava cake was sublime. Menu was quite confusing, and unnecessarily so. Food was just OK...everything was very very salty for some reason. The pasta is fantastic, but again very salty and very rich. No fish option except scallops. And perhaps most surprising was that the place was half empty on NYE, which I don't understand given its popularity. I don't recommend it, there are plenty of Italian places here. Please know, that menus are half sizes only and their half portions are child size portions. I do give them props for the tiramisu. Wow. I wasn't anticipating loving this place as much as I did. When you walk in, you realize how incredibly tiny the restaurant is. It is super cute though, and considering the space, they manage to fit a pretty decent amount of people in there. We got Cacio e Pepe and a chicken and gnocchi dish. Both were excellent. Just a heads up - the pasta is very al dente. I wasn't sure how I felt about that at first, but it ended up being pretty good. The portion sizes are SMALL. We are people who split 1 meal usually, so if we had done that here we would have been really hungry and probably would've had to order another. The service was good. I would go back, though I wouldn't recommend it for more traditional "American" Italian eaters. I know for a fact someone like my Dad wouldn't like the more fancy and REAL Italian this place offers as opposed to the more American-Italian-esque places - if you catch my drift. read more

We went for the Sunday tasting and it was based around chanterelles. It was so different from my normal dinner choices and totally delicious. My husband chose to do his own version of a pasta tasting and found his new favorite dish... carbonara. Each time we come here, our table is always ready (even when we show up a few minutes early) and the food is always consistent and delicious. Whenever we're celebrating an anniversary, birthday or even a random date, this is our first choice! I can't wait to go back on another Sunday night to try more tasting menus. As someone who has lived abroad and spent a lot of time in Italy, I'm consistently blown away by ITA 101. It has become a restaurant I make sure I visit whenever I'm in the Southern New Jersey area and cannot recommend it enough. The ambiance is warm and inviting, the service attentive and genuine, and the food has never disappointed me. Five Stars through and through! Absolutely amazing little restaurant! I came here with my parents about 2 weeks ago for an early dinner. We were among the only diners - probably about 2 other tables dining at that time - it was only 5:30! We were seated promptly (of course), and our friendly waitress came to open our wine and talk about the menu. By the time we left, there were people waiting for their tables, and it was a full house - not an empty table in sight! There was a specials menu, which looked amazing, and some outstanding looking dishes on their regular menu too. I suggested that we order family style and share our dishes - my father at first chided me that 'Family Style' is usually for Chinese Food Restaurants, but after a couple minutes wrestling with what to order, saw the beauty of my plan. The atmosphere is sweet - it's a long and narrow restaurant, only 3 tables across, and about 10 in length - there's a cute 6-top table in the window by the street, what a great seat that could be in the snowy wintery months! The vibe is intimate and simple - it's not too loud, and the waitstaff and friendly and helpful. During dinner, the GM (and a former chef) came out to talk about a special truffle night they're having later this month (...drool), and to discuss the ingredients they use - I love that! All the wine glasses were etched with the emblem from a local winery, it looks like they offer bottles from this winery if you didn't bring your own. Onto what matters, the food: Like I mentioned, we ordered a bunch and shared family style. The one exception was the soup, my dad wanted the Zuppa di Cipolle (Special November 2018 / Onion Soup), but I had to do my Yelpful duty and taste it. Twice. It was phenomenal. An upscale version of your typical pub style french onion, served with a small amount of bread and fontina cheese - the soup was robust, warm, and the perfect amount of balance of saltiness and onioney goodness. I wish we all ordered it for myself - so good! The portion was a perfect size, not too overwhelming! As an appetizer we ordered the Octopus, or Polipo Grigliato : Octopus, eggplant, olives, fennel purée. I was surprised this dish was served cold - I normally love octopus, but wasn't the biggest fan of this one personally. I'm thinking it was the temperature, that really threw me for a loop - but my parents loved it. All pastas are made fresh, daily, by hand. We ordered two (again, just fulfilling my Yelpful duties over here. (#selfless). The first was the Fettuccini con Cioccolato e Ragu di Cinghiale. This was a wild boar ragu, and was amazing. The pasta was perfectly al dente and wonderfully flavored. The ragu was thick and meaty - perfection. (For the record: fettuccini, cocoa powder, wild boar ragu). The second pasta we ordered was the Tagliolini con tartufo Nero e fontina. I saw this on the menu and KNEW I had to have it. The big chunky mushrooms and sauce in general were drool worthy, but then fresh truffles were shaved above our dish once it was brought to the table - a showstopper. Does it get any better? This was one of the best dishes of the evening and I practically licked my plate once the pasta disappeared. (For the record: tagliolini, black truffles, fontina). The last dish we ordered was another November 2018 Special - the Brasato di Manzo. This was again, perfection. Grass-fed beef short ribs, Barbera d'Asti Wine, roasted vegetables, fontina and taleggio polenta. That polenta was bomb, the short rib was fall-apart tender, and the wine reduction was amazing. Looks like I forgot to take a photo of it, but we demolished that dish in record time! We were about to call it a night when they brought out the dessert menu. The standard italian desserts were listed, but our waitress mentioned a table-side tiramisu. Well... you know where the story is going. We opted for some coffees and the tiramisu. Normally I'm not the biggest fan of tiramisu because I find it meh due to subpar ingredients. This bad boy was anything but. Fresh baked ladyfingers, drenched in freshly brewed italian espresso, covered in a mascarpone cheese (using only the best ingredients, of course), and all given a healthy dusting of cocoa powder. Thankfully for us, there were 3 ladyfingers - otherwise it would have been a fight to the death for the last bite. This was BADASS tiramisu. Absolutely amazing. Don't hesitate to order. I'm salivating just thinking about it. ITA101 is a true farm to table restaurant, as their website boasts, Chef Kevin only use high quality, in-season, fresh ingredients. Only organic eggs and produce, sustainable fish and meats, and high-quality flour create amazing dishes. When my fiancé texted me the name of this restaurant for our dinner reservations, I thought his droid changed it to something wacky (you know how "those" phones are). All apologies to him AND the phone...that's the real name! Everything on the ITA101 menu is made in-house (no Barilla pasta nor Bindi frozen desserts here). Our very Italian server explained the the general menu to us (and gave us her favorites and recommendations) and she also explained the large amount of specials in great detail. Their main menu is limited, but they offer a ton of daily, local, and in-season specials. Thursday nights boast a culinary "theme", if you will. On the night we visited, the theme was chestnuts, meaning all 4 courses showcased chestnuts to some degree. We were intrigued but we decided to order specials and items off of the regular menu. - Prosciutto wrapped figs stuffed with fontina cheese - Romaine salad with toasted hazelnuts, goat cheese, walnuts - Braised short rib (no knife needed here!) - Homemade Pappardelle with wild boar ragu - Tiramisu made table side. They even used decaf espresso at my request. Oh, how I love you! Our Thursday night reservations were not needed, but that could have been due to the wind and rain (nothing stops us). Just finished a superb dining experience here tonight. Server Eddie was attentive & knowledgeable. Ordered several pasta dishes all were exceptional. Homemade pasta was cooked to perfection & sauces were delicious. Short ribs were moist & flavorful. Stuffed chicken legs were exceptional & drizzled w/honey making for crispy layer of sweetness to balance prosciutto & cheese. Dessert were homemade & delicious. We had cannoli & table side tarimasou , even lady fingers made on site, topped with marscapone, drizzled w/espresso & cocoa!!!!! Fabulous! Chef Keven lived up to his mission of fresh ingredients prepared with love & care. I was highly impressed & it's truly a local gem. If u love true Italian food this is your place. read more

we had dinner at ITA101 tonight, we were given a recommendation that it was good. the dinner was average and the service was just awful by the male waiter. it was as if he was ignoring us. a tip wasn't deserved but he got one. I would not recommend going there and we won't be going back. read more
