Tarantella is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the area! We order food or dine in a lot. Recently had Ivan help us setup to host a party on the premise, who was super friendly & nice. Day of the party - Libby, Vanessa & another woman were the ones serving & helping us. Made sure my gluten free needs were met & taking care of all the guests. They were all very friendly! Excellent NJ strip mall Italian BYOB! Great service and food here - perfect for large groups. Portions are huge, and by the time you're done with the complimentary bread and salad, you'll barely touch your entree. It is hit or miss there. One night my chicken dish had an odd taste. The owner quickly resolved with a new plate. But what happened to begin with. when dining in, have a nice spring mix salad. When take out, for the same dish, the salad is a little romaine and appearance of regular chopped lettuce. if romaine, it had absolutely no color. Seemed to be pretty crowded with locals which is always nice to see. I had the chicken parm which I liked but thought the chicken was a little over cooked. MOTHER"S DAY VISIT We have been to Tarantella's many times, almost every Christmas Eve for a birthday dinner. Even on busy days like Christmas Eve we have never had a problem. However...... this past visit on May 11th (Mother's Day) was quite different. My daughter called and made a reservation well in advance, knowing that they would be busy. We arrived at 3:50pm for a 4:00 reservation and they were "still cleaning the table". We waited and while doing so saw another party of 4 come in and get seated immediately. This was the beginning of a bad visit. Once seated, we were given the sparse Mother's Day Limited menu. This would have been nice to know before we confirmed our reservation as the main item that one of my daughters loves when eating there was missing - chicken marsala. A staple on any Italian restaurant menu. By the way, the prices were greatly inflated for the holiday. My veal parmigiana was $38, probably 1-1/2 times what most restaurants charge. It was good but for $38 I expected more. Also, there were no substitutions or changes allowed to the menu. Service was moderately good and the waitress was friendly. My veal parmigiana was overcooked and a little tough as was my wife's chicken parmigiana. The pasta they served with it did not taste like fresh pasta (would have been nice for my $38) and definitely not al dente. All in all this seemed like a different restaurant than we have eaten at in the past. I do not believe that they would have made Momma proud on this day. We will definitely have to think twice before coming back for my daughter's birthday dinner on Christmas Eve. I would have given this restaurant a 5 star review in the past but am struggling with giving it a 4 star review this visit. read more

The only upside (if you can call it that) is that they serve huge portions of very very mediocre food. If you're looking for authentic Italian this is not the place. If you're looking for very average low quality American version of Italian then this might work for you. I would much rather have smaller portions of good high quality food. read more

First red flag was the empty parking lot near dinner time. Must be a new owner there's no way this could have such a good rating. Waiter was great except we only saw him for our order and the bill. Bland food all around. Huge presentation, large plates. All pasta and watered down. No sign of that wine flavor it stated. 6 medium shrimp for $30 could have removed the tails. Many $40-$50 menu dishes. Daughters dish chicken, tender, but watered down, bland. Three bites tasted of bleach. Chlorine from tap water? Manager stated they don't use cleaners or bleach to clean dishes, only water. Paid the full price, they offered coffee. Not sure if that was a comp offering. Left & won't go back. Pretend Italian food. Very poor. Shame. read more

Great family owned business! We had reservations for four on a Friday evening. We were immediately seated by a friendly hostess. Our server was a nice, accommodating young man. We started with an appetizer of sausage and broccoli rabe that was pretty tasty. Now the garlic rolls and loaves of bread were absolutely delicious! I definitely could have stopped after eating a few garlic rolls and the house salad. Two of us ordered the shrimp parmigiana with penne and the other two ordered the frutti di mare. These were actually platters of food. We really only needed one of each. Portions are enormous! You'll definitely have dinner for two more days. I wasn't overly fond of the shrimp parmigiana. I got the penne pasta and it was slathered with a mound of sauce that tasted like Ragu. The shrimp were large and fried covered with way too much cheese. This dish was definitely not the best selection for me. My mother in law had the same entree with diavolo sauce and she loved it. My husband and his sister really liked the frutti di mare. It was loaded with seafood and had an almost blush sauce. One of the owners came by to see how we were enjoying ourselves. He found out that we were celebrating our birthday and sent over several desserts. This was a real special treat and he was indeed a nice man. This is a quaint Italian/Mediterranean restaurant in a strip mall. Prices are reasonable for enormous portions. It's also a BYOB. Nice place to take a hungry group. read more

A classic Italian spot with a large range of pastas, veal, seafood, and chicken dishes to choose from along with pizza. We went for an early dinner for the "Senior Sunset" menu, which offers a discounted meal from 2-5 PM on weekdays for $15.99. It includes a soup or salad, pasta, and a coffee/tea/soda. With the exception of the seafood bisque and the seafood special, grouper scampi, almost all of our dishes were very salty, including the rigatoni vodka. The grouper didn't seem super fresh either. Plus side: large portions, provided a regular loaf of bread with butter along with garlic bread (although the garlic bread was very oily). Our server was very patient and attentive, so no complaints on service. However, with so many Italian restaurants around, this ends up on the low end on my list. They do charge an extra $10 for people to share their dish, which seems unusual but is what it is. read more

We went here to celebrate my sister's birthday and it was awful! In the past we have ate here a number of times and loved their food. Our experience this time not so good. There were 8 of us and the service we received was horrible; long wait for our drinks, appetizers, and dinner. Food was awful! I ordered lasagna and a side of meatballs and they tasted like they were straight out of the freezer not the home made food I remember having here. Even the salad was not fresh and crispy. My opinion from an italian American it's a strip mall Olive Garden first the service was poor. I ordered fresh mozzarella with roasted peppers and those peppers are from a jar like you see in the grocery store you know pepper strip. Now my wife got a side order of meatballs and I know they are store bought because when they are homemade they are all different but the meatballs we got were t same and had a spice to it.Next the salad was not fresh and crispy. I accidentally found this place when I walked out of a Popeyes because of very slow service, I drove through the little shopping center and saw the sign Tarantella Italian Restaurant and thought why not. I am glad I did as I will be back again real soon, not only for the great selection of Italian foods along with a variety of good stuff on the menu, but the staff was friendly along with a welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend this establishment and will definitely bring a nice bottle of wine to go with my veal parmigiana next trip. I know that a lot of people don't take the time to acknowledge a business that is doing something that they are supposed to do. But I feel like it needs to be said today. Tarantella's did a luncheon after a funeral for a family member this week and they went above and beyond to serve what seemed to be an army. The owners and staff were very accommodating to the needs of people who were having a very difficult day. The food was outstanding! All of this being done without a real idea of how many people were going to walk through the door. I would tell anyone who was looking for a nice place to take a date to dinner or someone who was looking for a place to bring a hundred and some odd people to lunch that I don't think you will be disappointed with this business. Our family has been patronizing Tarantella Restaurant for over 25 years. We predominately dine-in. We have also had Tarantella provide catered meals for special events. Tarantella Restaurant has been one of our "go to" restaurants for good tasting Italian food, good meal values, and very good service. We have been disappointed over the past six months or so with the quality of the pollo meals. The pollo meals used to be nicely pan fried with good tasting sauces. The chicken was tender and well portioned. However, the pollo meals are now being prepared differently. The chicken is now not so tender. The chicken does not appear to be pan fried or seared but instead steamed or poached. That would explain the tougher chicken that has little flavor. The quantity of chicken also seems less. Salad and good tasting bread is included with entree meals. BYOB is available. Service is always pleasant and attentive. A 3.6% additional charge is added to bills for using credits cards or debit cards. We have greatly reduced the frequency of our dining at Tarantellas Restaurant. Hopefully, Tarantellas Restaurant management will change how their staff cook their pollo dishes. read more

Last night we ordered some food (for 4) for pickup - chicken parmigiana with pasta, large caprese salad, Italian bread, shrimp scampi - all delicious!
