Came here for some specialty cheese and I love this shop! They always have some great local goods as well as an abundance of meat and cheese options. When going to the deli, they have a ticket system. So take a number and wait for it to show up on the board, that's when it's your turn! While I was waiting, they had samples of Tastia which is a hazelnut spread. It was super yummy and I ended up buying a jar. I also ordered the coconut cheese which is delicious slight coconut flavour and the truffle cheese which a little bit goes a long way! They always have great produce here as well so recommend getting some yummy local fruits and veggies here! read more

I love this place. I love the bakery and meat section the best. But I also enjoy the produce section. The little coffee shop/restaurant is pretty awesome too. I love the cappuccino and also I have enjoyed their pizza as well. I find a lot of things that I can hardly find anywhere else. The quality of products, the staff, the store, and the atmosphere are all awesome and the best. Parking, especially on the weekends, can be a little challenging but it's worth the effort to drive around for a street parking spot. I love this place, I recommend this place and I definitely go back there! read more

Last year I was in Halifax and I realized that for a small city; Edmonton is really lucky to have the Spinelli family and the Italian Centre shops. The baked goods are ok; the bread good; the deli and cheese by the lb excellent and they have local and Italian and Sicilian brands I can find anywhere else since Planet Organic went under. It's sometimes very very crowded and they dont have legit bags you can buy (the bags they have are very small and made of rope and gross feeling fabric that looks like rope) which is annoying when you forget to bring used ones but overall; one of the better grocery stores for high quality food. read more

I truly can't say enough amazing things about this place and Elizabeth who does the gift baskets. I live in the US and wanted something shareable to send to my daughter who lives/works in Edmonton. Started this process yesterday. After calling many bakeries who don't deliver, I asked one if they knew of a place who did. They suggested this place and they deliver gift baskets. Elizabeth took the time and care with me to make this all work. I will never forget her kindness. When you live in another country, it is difficult at best to make gift delivery on a timely basis happen. Thanks to her, my daughter will be very happy today. Phoned ahead of time looking for 36% milk fat whipping cream which they told me they had and would set aside for me. Got a call back from them which I missed so called them back once again only to have to reserve the whipping cream again. The guy told me he had another brand as well that is local and Organic for only a couple dollars more so I said yes. Got there and they had sold all of the 36% (which I need at least that much milk fat for my recipe). The stuff he had told me about was only 35% that he put aside for me. I explained myself very clearly on the phone. What a fucking waste of time getting there to not have what I had asked to be put aside. Then one of the employee's told me someone had come in after I had called to put one aside and bought them all. Which they fucking allowed even though I had reserved one. I thought I'd try their authentic Italian pizzas for the first time tonight and sadly, I haven't missed much in all the time I didn't try it. I ordered two different types and both were deplorably bland and very disappointing. The cannoli I tried afterwards was just okay, nothing special. I've been to New York twice and if you want incredible, delectable Italian pizzas and sweets, you must either go there or to Italy itself. This place is okay for Edmonton, but if you want the genuine article, NYC can't be beat for their amazing Italian culinary delights. The staff here are very friendly and accommodating, so I give them kudos for their outstanding customer service, and the stars are for them and them alone, not their food or pastry quality. read more

A charming off-shoot of the main location downtown, this is a great little specialty grocery store just off Calgary Trail on the Southside. The first stop here should always be the bakery, where you will be tempted by countless gorgeous pastries and confections, plus some of the freshest baked breads I've found in the city (just leave an Herb & Olive Oil Baguette for me!). The produce section is obviously tended by people who know what they're doing, as even the fruits and veggies that aren't in season look fresh and ripe for taking home, with prices comparable to larger supermarkets. And my husband adores the deli selection here, both for the clearly displayed pricing on the overhead display boards and selection of meats and cheeses available. Their frozen pasta selection is where I buy manicotti and ravioli to impress all my friends at dinner parties. :) The staff are always there to help, but are also hands-off, so you don't feel pressured or rushed with your shopping. The biggest downside is the parking -- the lot is decently big, but there are times on weekends and around holidays that you won't be able to find a spot! read more

This is our main go-to place for specialty meats and cheeses, and most things Italian and European too. It is also close to home so I don't need to make the trek to the downtown Italian Centre to get my fix. They now have 3 location in Edmonton; Downtown, South and West. So that makes it a little more convenient for many people. I like this location because it isn't too big and isn't too small. I think it is probably the smallest of the Edmonton locations. Some days there can be quite a line-up at the deli and cheese counter but you can take a number and continue shopping and check back once in awhile. My other half is Celiac so she loves the growing selection of gluten free items. I like the variety of good you can buy in the store. Produce, canned goods, treats, drinks, pastas, oils, kitchen goods, breads, desserts, frozen foods, fresh olives... It keeps going! This can be a one-stop shopping destination for you. Oh and there is a small cafe too! Parking is sometimes tight. It is a small lot with limited on street parking too. That being said I have always found a spot even on busy days. read more

On this occasion I went on my lunch break. I ordered the turkey bruschetta sandwich toasted. It had plenty of seasoned turkey deli meat, artichokes, provolone, mayo and roasted red peppers. I didn't see or taste any traditional tomato bruschetta as I was expecting. Nonetheless it was very tasty and filling. I also had the tangerine Italian soda, this was also tasty but for the size and price ($4), I think I will opt for one of the bottled selections from the drink aisle. I just came back from a trip to Italy so of course I had to stock up on some delicious cheeses and prosciutto to keep the vacation alive! I mostly shop at the south location because it's closer to me, but we decided to swing by this one and check it out. Our first stop was the cafe, which I was pleased to say is pretty darn authentic. I had a wicked croissant sandwich and a cappuccino served just right. The meat and cheese counter is busy but has a good system. They are willing to go above and beyond to give you a hand, make sure you get a taste of what you're buying, and meet your flavour preferences. I was looking for a particular cheese called La Grein that I fell in love with in Rome, and although they didn't carry it they asked me to write it down and the wonderful lady helping me tried her best to find me a similar tasting cheese. Who knows- maybe they'll even order that cheese in! The parking situation can be a little sketchy depending when you go- it seems like nobody knows what they're doing- but at least there's a decent sized parking lot and some street parking. Finally, the prices are completely fair and the product selection is fantastic. I'll be back! read more

I popped in to the west end location. I was craving the hot cappacola sub sandwich. Really delish cheese. To my surprise at the deli was smoked turkey leg. I made yellow split pea soup. Meat fell off the bone Like magic. The bakery has decadent tiramisu cake. Who was that queen that shouted let them eat cake. That was me shouting all the way home. Marie Antoinette yeah baby. What a busy parking lot, and this is on a regular basis. This place has a lot to offer, I believe more European food selections than most stores that I know of. Inside the store it's not as busy except the dining or deli area. Either than that, the getting groceries here is fine but they have pretty cramped aisles. You'll see so many cake boxes, like I even thought of buying one of them random cake in a box. The meat section has a Wide variety of meats and also cheeses. Plenty of pasta in packages and all sorts of stuff. If you miss European groceries, you'd best check this place out for yourself, you may find it here. Bought soft drinks that are tropical and on sale. I have yet to drink it, but will update when I come here next. I'll have to try their Italian deli food, maybe it will taste unique. I had to edit this review. At the time of writing , I could not see any other reviews of this location and now it appears that older reviews popped up. So without further ado.. This Italian center bakery is located south side of Edmonton and is one of four locations. If you do not want to drive to the West end or downtown then this is the place for you. I love Italian food and all sorts of European goodies. When you first walk in , the first senses to hit is your nose. It has one of those aromas where you feel like you are actually in an Italian shop. This location is no different than the other locations. Fresh baked breads ( yumm ) and the deli section is enough to make you blow your budget. I have never seen such a selection of salamis and hams.. makes your mouth water just thinking of eating salami on a freshly baked bun. If you think " I only need a few things " , you have to be either strong willed or else you could be spending a few more bucks than what you planned. I have been to this location before and love the whole vibe of it. Pasta, parmesan cheese , salamis and more.. oh my ! There is nothing better than topping off a good meal with a dessert. There is a good variety of choices.. but to be honest, I came here for the tiramisu .. can't get more italian than that . Theirs are really good , add an Italian coffee with it and you are in heaven. The aisles are fully stocked and seems they never run out of anything . Spices, freshest vegetables, pastas in so many different forms, olive oils straight from Italy, chocolates, chips, flour, breads etc. This store has everything you need to have an authentic Italian feast. There is also a café section to indulge the senses. Pastries galore , coffee , sandwiches , soups, you name it.. My most recent visit here was for their 10th anniversary celebrations and it was well worth it as I got to witness some great fun activities including a pizza making contest and food samples and more! I like how this event focused on families and kids. Generally I visit here on occasion for European treats, fresh produce, and the aforementioned delicious baked goods. One of these days I want to try their pizza from their cafe as well. While I sometimes find this place overwhelming, the deliciousness means that I definitely seek it out. read more

Came for a meeting at Spinelli's and great to see all the tables but they filled up quickly! It seemed to be a great place to run into friends in the neighbourhood as people were greeting each other warmly. I had a tea for $2.25 and they have a lot of options of Stash teas. My table mates had coffees that looked great for coffee drinkers. The produce section is good and the prices are great too. I found tomatoes and green peppers were lower price that other grocery stores. The deli seemed to be a popular shopping area with a great selection of cheese and meats. Was busy for a weekday afternoon but parking lot wasn't too crazy. Also a short 10-15 minute walk from Southgate. Great place to meet friends, colleagues, or pick up some great food for home. read more

I really appreciate that this not-so-little-anymore shop makes such an effort to carry locally produced items. Need a meat/deli/cheese tray? Order here. Need gift baskets for the Holidays - they got you covered too. Being the recipient of a basket at work for a number of years, we miss it now that the company that sent them is no longer around. HUGE deli & cheese counter. And Olives! What a selection. Yes, it's busy, but the bonus is that turnover is good and you're likely to get fresh product. I grab a number and wander off to finish some of my other shopping. On a busy day, the wait doesn't bother me. The dairy selection is fairly good with pretty much everything I need and they usually have the stuff I am looking for in stock. Gluten free items growing every single visit. The pasta aisle is getting stuffed with GF. In other areas, gluten free soup mixes and even cake mixes! Fresh produce, interesting selection. Good prices. What you want might not be available, but that's the joy of NOT going to a big box store and then having overbought or underripe produce. Cilantro - this is the cheapest place in town to get it. OH! And I almost forgot - want to roast your own chestnuts? Fresh Figs or Dates? THIS is the place you will find them. But when they come in, get them fast, they won't last. Garlic's Purity Plus, available here too! Meat cooler - Excellent local product; Selections of sausage & bacon from Irvings Farms, really nice pork sausage from Messenger Meats in Ryley AB, Sgamboro's gravlax salmon - fresh never frozen! AMA points for members - excellent! Earn my membership buying groceries. What's not to love? The bakery & cafe... not for gluten free, but for regular consumers of wheat... it's got a lot. Cashiers are on the ball - I can't say that for most of the grocery stores I visit. Imported chocolate aisle is very impressive. Second only to the selection of their Olive Oils. I love this place! I'm probably going to gain twenty pounds on biscotti and foccacia alone, and it's not even Christmas yet. For all foods Italian, this is the place to be. We had never been here before, so we went up and down every single aisle, and I couldn't stop repeating "This place is so cool!" I was like a kid in a toy store. The Italian Centre Shop is pretty much a grocery store, except that almost everything is Italian. They have a whole aisle of pasta, and another of baked goods like biscotti. The bakery sells fresh cookies and foccacia baked just that day, and there is an Italian cafe attached to the bakery called Spinelli's. They also have a deli and cheese counter, and some of their produce is just as cheap as Superstore's. I wanted to get everything, as I love Italian food, but of course I had to exercise some restraint. We got some chocolate biscotti, lady finger biscuits, breadsticks, and Thomas Kemper root beer. Horrible. I have a vendor coupon that was mailed to me directly from Italpasta for $4.00 off their products and the store REFUSES to accept it stating they don't take ANY coupons. It is ridiculous that you would not accept a VENDOR coupon that you would be completely reimbursed for. My options for purchasing this brand of pasta are limited and I shop at your store because I usually enjoy the friendly customer service and competitive pricing. I'll be thinking twice about shopping here again or recommending this store to my friends, family or colleagues. Flat out refusing my coupon and not even offering me any explanation other than "we don't have to" is shoddy customer service at best. I'm very disappointed. I edited my review. I still have issues with customer service at this location, but their other locations are great, and the owner of the chain made things right with me. I absolutely love this gem- and living a stone's throw away! While we don't do all of our regular grocery shopping here, the Italian Centre Shop is a total treat and I find myself here whether with my other half or by myself on almost a weekly basis!| Having recently moved up to Edmonton from Calgary, I have been trying to replace all of my favourite grocery markets, with my bread and oil cravings being of high priority (must be my Italian roots I guess). Enter Italian Centre Shop. I was freaking blown away when I first visited the downtown location; then the one near West Ed, and finally this one. It has seriously everything! I love to stop down every aisle and browse when I have the chance. Some of my favourite grocery staple finds are fresh breads such as Vegetarian Foccacia (picture your favourite foccacia, with the added delight of olives, banana peppers, capers, garlic, and artichoke hearts baked right in), the high quality oils and vinegars, fresh produce and herbs, accidentally vegan perogies in the freezer. For treats, I am consistently impressed by the organic teas in pretty packaging, dark chocolate selection, and I even picked up some vegan marzipan the other day for my baking. Sometimes I even find gifts here for others. IE- wooden roosters hand carved in Turkey? No way! I would definitely recommend this market to anyone looking to make their weekly grocery shop an adventure! Budget yourself at least half an hour to explore in here, and grab yourself a soy latte while you're at it! read more

Pretty much find everything Italian here. Almost convinced there is a trap door that leads directly to Rome. The bakery is beyond words because most of their stuff is extremely tasty and affordable, two adjectives that almost never go together! Most pastries are in the 2.25$ range, which make the value exceptional. Not to mention Spinelli's have some of the best sandwhich in my opinion. The daily pinini is a must on a cold day. At 6.50$ it is an affordable treat. It does take a few minutes to grill though. The coffee is very good here as well. Dine in or grab and go. The line ups can be very slow and parking can be an issue around lunch time, but besides that for Edmonton this is 'perfetto'! read more

I love the Italian Centre Shop. This isn't the type of place you are going to visit when you just need to pick up a jug of milk. The Italian Centre Shop has a great bakery, and deli, as well as produce section. I love the olive oil and balsamic vinegar selection the have. I always need to buy their biscotti and cannoli from the bakery. And There's a butternut squash ravioli (n the freezer section) that's delicious. That being said there are also other European foods here a well. Come during the week before noon and bring a cart because there's a good chance it will get filled up. read more

Great little grocery store. The store is well stocked with many European sweets and drinks, the best pasta selection that I have seen (including the most tasty corn pasta ever), the best selection of oils, vinaigrette, canned veggies and sauces. The produce section varies but usually has some great items at very reasonable prices. This store's claim to fame is the bakery and deli. Both contain amazing products. Expect to wait a while for deli service if you go during peek times. The only reason this store is not getting a 5 is due to the parking (can be an absolute nightmare) and the sometimes less than stellar service. read more

The Italian Centre south has become my go-to spot for all things deli. Genoa salami, sopresetta, and porchetta highlight the meat case, and I can't get out of there without picking up Applewood smoked cheddar, piave vecchio, or provolone cheeses. It's also a great place to pick up dry goods that you can't get at your regular grocery store. Tons of different pastas, biscotti's, and olive oils will keep you busy trying them all. Been watching the Food Network channel all weekend, and needed to find some fairly uncommon ingredients. Sat down and asked myself, "where can I find this stuff?". If you're waiting for me to tell you the answer, you should know that it was a rhetorical question. I'm normally not terribly concerned with prices, simply because my need to find stuff outweighs my urge to save money, but I couldn't believe how cheap most of the items in this store were. Produce section wasn't all that impressive, but there are plenty of other options for that. I was there fairly late in the day, so there wasn't much of a selection in the bakery, but I'm sure it's normally pretty impressive. Didn't need anything from the deli, and I felt a little guilty even thinking about buying cheese, but I loved the selection for both. read more

4.5 stars!! I love the selection of culinary tools they have got at Italian Centre. If you want the best home-made latte, buy a tea-press and make the foam from heated milk yourself. It makes the best foam. They also have a great selection for coffee grinds (not just your typical Starbucks and Second Cup; etc). I actually found there was not much price difference if you were to buy a pasta maker (hand-cranked one) there versus at Amazon.ca; both are from the same manufacturer: Marcato Atlas. They have both imported cheeses and cheeses that they make themselves. It's a joke to go to Walmart for cheeses when you can get them fresher and cheaper here. I love making pizzas; the deli section provides endless possibilities for toppings. My favourite cheese to go on pizza is their specialty German butter cheese. The secret of making a perfect dough is to mix semola and all-purpose flour (for higher gluten content). At the deli, the staff always asks me how I like the cheeses or meat to be sliced. Bonus: they provide samples if I'm not sure what my eye feasts on! Tips on storing their meat: pat dry, transfer everything into an air tight container, so that it will last a bit longer. Also, you may need to freeze the bread if you do choose to buy bread there -- as they do not put much preservatives. If you do buy produce there, they have to be used right away. read more

I love shopping at the Italian Centre! On the plus side: European imports are less expensive here than anywhere else in the city. I love the range of canned tomatoes (Italian, totally different flavour), of which there is always one brand on sale at ~$1.50. I love their aisle of olive oils (again, there's always one or two brands marked down to ~$3.50). They carry a huge array of imported pastas which have a far nicer texture and taste than the typical North American supermarket brands. Their bakery and deli are also fantastic, boasting a huge selection of euro treats and pastries, as well as great pancetta, prosciutto, etc., respectively. As for the negatives: The store does not accept coupons, even manufacturer coupons, so that's a bit disappointing. The produce is often disappointing and a tad past its prime when I buy it here. Also, their pricing for North American items (non-imported brands) is quite high. I recommend getting your Euro imports here and going elsewhere for produce and everything else at your favourite grocery store. All in all, this shop has a lot to offer, and I will definitely continue to make regular olive oil/pasta/tomato/European candy/pastry runs here. read more

Definitely lots of parking. It does get busy here most of the time. The selection of pastry is unlimited and it all looks amazing. The coffee here is always good and the price you pay here is reasonable. I'm so used to the 20oz size cups of coffee at Starbucks, it's like a cultural shock to me when i get a "fun size' cup of coffee here. They don't try to overcharge you on good foods. Seating area isn't all that big in the cafe, but the people here are polite and you can sit here as long you like. It's a friendly, fresh and not alarming in prices place to buy all the ingredients you've always wanted. Cheese, bread,meat, herbs, vegetables and pastry are all so wonderful here. Take your time browse through the shop. You won't be disappointed. You will find that you'll fall in love with this place and always want to come here to buy your grocery. read more
