Says in business 60 years. I remember going here as a kid and every time I am in town I return. Last year they got their smoker running after a several year hiatus. What a relief that was, because they get to make their own landjaeger again. Oh how I love it. The main reason I always came here. Love the fresh version. Mmmm. As a woman of German ancestry, I love my German food! K & K is, by far, the best place in the city to find that food. All of K & K's sausages are all made in house and they are fantastic. K & K will also cut and spice meat that you bring in (as long as you can prove it was hunted legally). There are numerous imported items throughout the store (all equally delicious). If you haven't had German chocolate in your lifetime - I recommend doing so as soon as possible! Other foods may require a more acquired taste, such as sauerkraut, which I could eat by the pound. K & K Foodliner is located in a little strip mall with some other favourite spots of mine to stop at; Empress Bakery and Leo's Tailor Shop. Also, Warp 1 Comics is across the street and the Empress Ale House is close by as well. So many good things! K & K is a german style deli where you can get some great meats and imported european treats. We like getting our Maui Ribs here because they make most of their own sauces and marinades in-house and they are moving to (or already did) have everything 100% gluten free. Ask first though just to be sure! The staff are very friendly and helpful and I like looking at all of the interesting european goodies, gifts and items. read more

Great European foods grocery. We just checked it out to see what European food products they brought. As a Dutch and Indonesian household, we enjoy having hagelslag (chocolate sprinkle) in the morning on our bread. Found out that hagelslag in this store is cheaper than at a Dutch store on 118 Ave. Great selection of meats and imported cheese. read more

Maui Ribs. Oh the Maui Ribs. Gluten free meat products, plenty of them ready to cook. You need to talk to the man in the know? He's there. I'm pretty sure he's always there. After chatting them up, I learned that they are making their own spice rubs and mixes now so they have quality control and know just what's in it. I like a shop that takes responsibility for what they sell. It's an admirable trait. That European deli smell when you walk in - intoxicating. Huge selection of imported goods from chocolate and candy to canned goods and calendars. You can spend an afternoon exploring all the goodies in the aisles. Staff is helpful, never feel rushed. Wow, what a neat place! It's all chaos and good smells and stuff I'm not sure I've ever seen before. Foodie paradise. In fact, this is going on my Christmas list, because I've already picked up a few stocking stuffers in the form of specialized salts and rubs. I can also see grabbing things like special sausage, cheeses, cakes, (Mixes...in boxes with German and Dutch instructions, sometimes some English) candy and pop for parties and get togethers. I'll bet I could find trout pate here. I saw whole geese in the freezer, so there's another option for Christmas dinner. It's a little overwhelming. So much cool looking product in so little space. This place carries all sorts of cool German things and other European treats too! If you're looking for something specifically German, this would be a great place to start. Wandering through the aisles is also an awesome way to pass the time and pick up some interesting new things to try. The deli has both imported and house made meats. They let you sample things if you're unsure about the taste/what something is. I recommend the Danish salami! It's made with wine so it has a very distinct flavour. The selection, while tasty, is on the smaller side so if you do need more options, I'd say to head to the Italian Centre instead. There is parking, despite its Whyte Ave location. The lot can get quite full/tight though, so you may need to park around the block or leave the huge monster truck at home. read more

This place is so awesome! My mom always heads here for all her German products and she always raves about this place. Finally I thought it was time to check it out for myself. This place has such an interesting and full deli. Any German meat you are looking for will be available here. They also make their own sausages which is pretty cool. Other than their expansive deli, this place also has many other German products available on their shelves. Where else in the city can I get amazing rye bread, cheeses and high quality cut deli meats all in one stop? It got quite tragic last Saturday as I arrived late for grocery shopping. -- they were out of bread so early. I love the fluffy rye bread from here! As someone who loves Christmas baking, where else can I find hirschhornsalz and potasche for baking traditional lebkuchen or pfefferkuchen? If you are looking for unique flavourings or essences, definitely give K & K a try. Mm, I bought a huge log of marzipan (almond paste) and I'm not sharing. This store is definitely a baker's gem. Oh, and walking to K & K is like going to a candy store for me -- because they do have a lot of specialty candies. I'm not an usual fan of licorice but the chalk licorice is a family favourite. They also have an amazing selection of imported kitchenware. If you want to learn how to make your own spätzle, you can find the Spätzlehobel (spätzle maker) here -- though the more rustic farmer's wife's way to prepare spätzle is to scrape the noodle dough on the board, according to my Opa-in-law. They also have got packaged spätzle if you just want to boil them in water. Spätzle would go really well with rouladen. Send me a note if you'd like a recipe for rouladen. P.S. K & K certainly is another awesome ethnic grocery store, in this case selling all sorts of goodies from Germany and some Eastern European countries. They have delicious in-house sausages which is the main reason for me to come here. In fact they have a professional meat cutting machine for cutting their meat and usually use Alberta meat including game. I've never gone ahead and ordered something special, but it is kinda interesting to keep in mind. Apart from all that, they have the regular aisles of strange looking jam/jelly bottles and mustard brands that you can't recognize etc. that every ethnic store carries. Be sure to check out the frozen perogies. I got them once and they were pretttty good! I like that a lot of their stuff is humbly made in-house or purchased from peope who make stuff in Edmonton. Some of the items are also cheaper than the Farmers market (frozen perogies and sausages come to mind). Must try this store if you're someone who's intrigued about German food. It's not as big as the Italian Center Shop, but certainly does justice for its size. read more

I discovered K & K online probably two years ago and never made it in....that is, until, I was working on a class project which has me on a scavenger hunt for immigrant languages in Edmonton. This place seemed like just the spot to search on a sunny Saturday afternoon! While I did snap a few photos, the trip was made worth it by the shopping experience alone. I was most impressed by the largest display of Haribo products I have ever seen, by the wonderfully friendly staff (Hannah and Barry) and by the pickle soup! Oh dear me - this pregnant lady is in trouble now!!!! In addition to the huge smile on my face, I also left with a bouquet of bacon roses and and some butter cookies. This was a sweet find and I'm sad that I waited so long to stumble upon it. I'll definitely be back and will likely stock my freezer with some of their made-in-house frozen soups! read more

If you are looking for those hard to find Eastern European products and foods, this is the place for you. They are centrally located and have free parking available. They have European cosmetics and soaps as well as tons of hard to find food products. The deli is packed with different cheeses and meats, and the staff is very helpful. K&K is a great place to pick up fresh sausages (bratwurst, currywurst, kielbasa and more..), fresh meats (like rouladen), deli meats, and cheeses. They also stock a great variety of frozen meat and seafood, and I think I saw a multitude of canned/jarred/pickled-or-not anchovies/herring/etc in their cooler :) I bought some PEI sea salt butter which I'm excited to try on the Vienna rye loaf I also picked up - not sure if they bake this in-store but I was pleased to see quite a few rye varieties. No kimmel rye though... There's lots of interesting sauce packets in foreign languages (I assume German but since I don't read or speak it, I can't confirm) and cookies, and a big selection of Haribo and Mentos candies :) I'll definitely be back again. P.S. I don't know if they have parking in the back, but to access their small angled parking lot in front, make sure you're heading west on Whyte Ave between 99 St and 100 St. read more

I experienced a rather rude and dismissive cashier while checking my purchase today I pointed out that I do not read polish and that some of their product packaging has the Canadian content ingredient label placed over the English product description and therefor I do not really know what I am purchasing. The retort back from the cahier was a stern, "nothing I can do about it, we dont put the label on, the wholesaler/importer does." I told her I'm not expecting you individually to do it but possibly bring it to the attention of your manager. She would have no part of it and I had to speak with the floor manager directly to voice my issue. Very disappointing given the current social and economic environment. Tough to feel compassion for businesses' in this climate if one is treated in such a manner. read more

Here you will find everything from meats and cheeses to skin care items imported from Germany. My husband is a big meat lover so whenever we are at K&K Foodliner, we stock up on German sausages and cured meats. They have a great selection! On the shelves you will find knödel, schupfnudel, sauerkraut, German mustard, jam as well as chocolate and cookies. There is also a little section with kitchen gadgets. You definitely cannot go out of this store empty-handed. I strongly believe that German food is of highest quality, and K&K Foodliner lets you experience that first hand. read more

This is the place to get your beef jerkey. Its so soft and chewy and just fantastic. The people here are super friendly and the small candies are a super plus. The parking is kind of condensed but managable. Overall my experiences are a plus havent had any regrets stopping in. read more

Many years ago, a pen pal in Germany sent me a box of treats from her country, including a small box of Mozart Kugeln: round balls of chocolate, almond marzipan, pistachio marzipan, and hazelnut praline. Although I dislike marzipan, pistachios, and hazelnuts, this was one of the most incredible things I have ever put into my mouth. Searches to find the candy in Edmonton proved fruitless. A candy purveyor told me at one point that maybe I could find a box in a specialty store at Christmas, and it would cost me something like $100. I gave up, memories of my Mozart Kugeln still lingering to the present day. As it should happen, I went to K&K Foodliner this past weekend to pick up meat for a barbecue at a home in the area - the fact it is a German grocery really did not have much to do with that decision, but rather the convenience. However, when I made the German connection, my mind raced to Mozart Kugeln and after checking several aisles of imported chocolates and other treats, I found them! They were loose in bins, they were sold by the two-pack, they were in a patty form I had never heard of before, and they were in gift boxes. I grabbed a gift box and a patty, and nearly collapsed with pleasure when these items reached my mouth later in the evening. I also loved the selection of Ritter Sport chocolate bars - among my favourites - and found flavours that are not as easy to find in other stores that carry the product. I decided to try a package of dark, dry, European pumpernickel - definitely an acquired taste. The chicken we got barbecued well, and the beef bratwurst sausage was incredible: thin, finely ground, with seasonings that were both sweet and savoury. Definitely the most unique beef sausage I have ever had - and I have had a few. I will definitely be back in the near future if only to satisfy my sweet tooth. read more

This is the place to go for those difficult to find food items. Lumpfish caviar for hors d'oeuvres and garnishes? They have it in both red and black AND in two sizes. Goose for your Christmas main course? They have them in a selection of sizes. High quality cocoa powder for Nigella's flourless chocolate olive oil cake? Of course. Sausage meat for a family recipe? Well no, they didn't have it - but they very kindly ground up pork and spices to my specifications for an excellent alternative. Wonderful stock, helpful staff, great smells.
