As an Italian from NY and a girl who lived in Rome, I have some high standards for baked goods and pastries because my hometown had some of the best shops around. It's rare that I walk into a place and they blow my mind. However, I found my new spot. Italian Gem Cafe has it all--and the gem in their name certainly belongs there. Jessica is running an amazing business in Middleboro, MA and my only regret is not finding out about her cafe sooner. IGC uses clean ingredients, makes everything fresh in house daily, and believes in small batch or quality over quantity. However, I must say, I was blown away by all of the choices they had. I can personally say that her paninis, made on house made focaccia bread are next level. Whether you're going with house favorites like La Rosemarino, La Diavola or La Porchetta or a weekly special, you are bound to be satisfied. And that's only the beginning of that's they have to offer! The bagel bomboloni was quite possibly the best savory pastry I've ever had. I cannot stop thinking about it. The mini Nutella and wild berry bombolonis were so good too. Their donuts and croissants were also delicious. I know they went viral for their frozen espresso, but I opted for the cookies and creme latte. It had chocolate all around the cup, the espresso was perfect, the cold foam was next level and the cookie details on top were the ideal touch. This latte was amazing and you know I've had a lot to compare it to. Alli def made the perfect drink for me and I am so thankful for her thoughtfulness on selecting one I would love. The macaroons, Whoopi pie, and cannolis were great. Our drinks came out fast and the customer service was very welcoming. Saw this place on Instagram and went today for the first time. We were blown away! Got the La Diavola panini. The focaccia was great, the spicy Calabrian chile salami was high quality, paired with the cheese and arugula - masterful! Topped the meal off with a crema caffe with a Nutella hazelnut rim - again - blown a-way! Never had anything like it. Really exquisite. Had the best breakfast at this local Italian bakery this morning! We had their Crema Cafe (frozen espresso) with a Nutella and hazelnut rum, Kinder Bueno croissant, spinach and feta pastry, and our favorite which was a crispy light pastry filled with creamy pistachio filling. As a neighboring local business, we have already taken advantage of this brand new bakery in Downtown Middleborough. Two weeks ago we ordered paninis and a cookie platter for an event at our shop. We had the great fortune of finding the cafe by chance. We were going somewhere else that happened to be very busy so we decided to pop in to the Italian Gem. My daughter and her friend got the chocolate croissants and said it was one of the best things they have EVER EATEN!! They got a cannoli each to go and loved them. I had the tiramisu which tasted different than any I ever had. It was not sickeningly sweet but rich and smooth. I only had a third of it so I could bring some home for my husband to try. He loved it too!! The were so many amazing looking items that it was hard to choose when normally I can't find anything I even want at most bakeries. Downtown Middleboro is wonderful and our new hangout. Shopping small feels so much better than getting stale flat food at a chain store and the price point was spot on. The cookie butter cookie is the only reason this wasn't a 1 star review - it was actually really yummy. The large cold brew was so watered down and not made how it was ordered (Missing cream and extra sugar). The large iced cappuccino was one of the worst made coffees I've ever bought. As a barista of 8 years it killed me to see her fI'll the cup with a small scoop of ice and proceed to only pour one side of the espresso shot directly over it - melting all of the ice immediately. And in her words to her trainee it was to "make it cold". Please learn about coffee - this shocks the espresso and takes the flavors out leaving it burnt. At my surprise, no more ice was added to my cup and the rest was filled with milk. I had a cup of milk with a couple half melted ice cubes floating at the top. I said nothing because it wasn't my place but please do better. This experience was very disappointing. read more
