I was visiting the city for work and got to see my close friend as well. She wanted to treat me to a lovely dinner, so she found this restaurant on Google search. Our visit was on a Wednesday evening around 6 p.m. Due to the construction going on around the neighborhood, it was a little challenging to find this place, even though my friend had Google Maps to help her. I was surprised that there was a restaurant, as there was not any other places around. My friend was even more surprised that there was a restaurant so close to her neighborhood! It looked like a lovely home, there was a lot of brown and orange colours throughout. When we entered, we were greeted by a friendly young lady. She took us to a seating area by the window and brought us the menu and cold glasses of water. There were so many items on the menu, it took us some time to narrow down our picks. Thankfully, our friendly waiter helped us out by providing his recommendations. Finally, we ordered an Insalata di Cesare (Cesar salad, regular size) and a large dish of Marco Polo (linguine with diced chicken breast, baby shrimp, spicy Italian sausage, and mushrooms in a spicy tomato sauce with touch of cream). When our dishes came, we were pleasantly surprised by the amount of food! We had a great time eating like queens- the salad was fresh and crisp, plus the linguine had the right balance of sauce and ingredients. Then we requested the remainder to be packed, so that we could enjoy them at home. During our meal, our waiter came by a few times to check-in about the food and anything else that we needed. It's been many years since I last came back to Italian Tomato, and I'm really glad I did. One thing I absolutely love here is the portion size -- they're generous, satisfying, and exactly what you want from a solid Italian spot. I was a little sad to find out they don't give out pens or any kind of reward if you finish your dish like Anton's does, but the food definitely holds its own. One major plus it's much easier to get seating here, and the fact that you can make reservations is a huge win. It is a little pricier than Anton's, but honestly, that didn't stop me I ended up coming here twice in one week, and yes, I finished my dishes both times. I'm really glad there's another place where you can actually get a table without waiting forever. My only wish is that they were open a little longer. Love the variety of pastas they have on their menu - Sugo Di Pomodoro (Red Sauce), Alla Panna (Cream Sauce), Sugo Di Pomodoro Cremoso (Rosé Sauce), Con Aglio e Olio. Although ingredients are about the same for most sauce bases, it tastes very good and homemade. Seafood might be smaller but it can do for its price. Pasta are cooked perfectly al dente. They offer half and full portions with very little price difference so definitely worth getting the full portions. Service is good and quick. The service was great and you can tell that the staff that we encountered really loves their job and interacting with customers. The food portions are huge, the wife and I had bariatric surgery a little over 2.5years now so we were able to order one meal and a cocktail each. We were both full and had enough to take home and have another meal the next night. The ambiance is cozy and not overly loud, the dining area is spacious. The decor though looks dated but not bad. I wanted to give it 4 stars but after going through my review again I settled on 3. This restaurant has made a good impression because of the excellent service, from the time I called in to make a reservation, to the greeting when my party entered the front door, to the server who helped us with the menu and made us feel welcomed and well cared for. I came here with 3 friends and, after we saw how big the pasta dishes were, we ordered 3 items to share: the Della Casa salad (large), the Toscana with penne (full), and the Alla Creola with whole wheat spaghetti (full). Both the pasta dishes were great, they were hot, tasty, pasta were cooked to the right consistency. They were so good we emptied the plates quickly. The salad was a little bit disappointing, it was fresh and tasty, but it was much smaller than we expected. It also had little tomato, cucumber, and peppers; most of the salad was lettuce and it was not worth the $22 cost. The server recommended this particular salad to us when she found out we were sharing, she said the other ones would be too small to split amongst 4 people. I also find the bread disappointing. It was cold, lack texture, and uninviting. Another reason I lowered the rating was the difficulty in finding parking. We arrived around 6:20 p.m. on a Saturday evening and there were only reserved spots belonging to other closed businesses left, we were not sure if we could park there so we circled around 3 times before we found parking. read more

This place is literally a Richmond version of Antons. And I will never not take that back because it is true. And it is something I like about it is that there will forever be seating and that they will always be willing to get you a box at the end of the night for your pasta. I always come here with some friends for a decent pasta night with friends. And for the amount of pasta they give you, for sure you can not finish the whole plate. I am always satisfied with eating here. The service here is just enough to have a good night and on top of that their little decor is like minimal but they are trying to keep the whole Italian vibe to their aesthetic. Ordered the Italian feast which offered 3 choices of 4 items - opted for the Spaghetti Bolognese, Chicken Parm, and Fettucine Alfredo (other option was Lasagne). Also added the meatball appy. The pastas tasted fantastic and properly sauced. The spaghetti noodles were thin, more like a cappelini, but was done to a nice al dente as was the fettucine. The Alfredo sauce was rich and creamy. The location is very easy to get to and the food quality/flavors were on point. I went there twice during a business trip and both times the place was busy, which showed me it was probably going to be a good spot to eat at. Oh dear....this restaurant has been one of my husbands favourites for years....I always preferred Antons but my husband loved Italian tomato...but....I think we are now going back to Antons. While their portions are good and large....they have increased their prices and forgot about the details! I ordered the spaghetti Bolognese with extra meatballs, you used to get 3 large ones for $8.99, now you get two very sad small ones for $10....really? We are in South Van and always have to travel 20-30 mins to get take out, they don't deliver. Neither does Antons. However, the last couple of times ordering from them, with their prices so much higher and 'add ons' like free bread and butter with your order now gone. We won't order from them as often. read more

I hate giving low ratings to establishments that have been around forever . I mean they've gone through a lot , especially the last few years right ? Not to mention there are so few Italian restos in Richmond ! But I really feel this is warranted based on a recent visit in which we both left bewildered and ultimately disappointed . The chain of unfortunate events started when we walked in and immediately noticed how dark and dated the interior is . Pretty sure it's not for ambience but more to hide its age . Then came the table bread and believe it or not it's literally stone cold . That totally sucked cos the outside temperature was almost freezing that evening . The " Siciliana " pizza we ordered came with a few paltry , lower quality pieces of proscuitto just spread on top and the whole pie tbh tasted like it's from , say , Pizza Pizza . Not kidding . And lastly the " Paesana " pasta , which btw is supposed to be in a light dill cream sauce , has got to be one of the saltiest pasta dishes I've tasted in all of 2022 . In a way I think they're trying too hard to become the Richmond version of Anton's by serving sizable pasta portions but failed flat since the prices here are quite a bit more . We went as it was in walking distance to our hotel. Loved everything we had. I've mostly had pretty good Arancini, this one is way ahead of the rest. They were big, sauce was great, and they had a nice smoky flavor to them which made them stand out. Penne Arabiatta, I've had tons of times. We came on a rainy Sunday around 6:00pm and found a parking spot right away. We were greeted and seated promptly and a table that overlooked the rest of the restaurant. Their menu features primarily "make your own" pasta - choose the pasta type, with a premium on certain types; choose the sauce; and then choose to have it baked (at an extra cost). There were also a few specialty dishes (ie. lasagna) on the bottom right corner of the extensive menu. We shared the tortellini soup, caesar salad, and then each ordered a pasta. I felt the tortellini soup was way too salty, although the tortellini itself was tasty. The caesar salad was surprisingly delicious and we finished every bite. The fusilli lunghi milano was undercooked and did not come with enough sauce so it was a bit dry to eat - although I did enjoy the sauce and the overall idea. My partner's pesto tortellini (spinach&cheese) was pretty good - the pesto sauce was very flavourful and this was a winner in our books. Our bill came to close to $100 and that was where we were not as satisfied. We didn't expect a pasta dinner to be that expensive when we could order sushi, which has more fresh ingredients, and spend less than that. The food was good but the prices not so much. Yes, the portions are very generous (think Anton's) but I would rather pay less and get a normal sized portion and make this a regular dinner night out option. read more

My favourite spot for pasta in Richmond has to be Italian Tomato for their HUGE portions (three meals in one! ) and quality options! Each time I order pasta, it's a surprise! They have two sizes (half and full) but sometimes I still find the half-size pretty large! ⁠ I only started coming here multiple times this year but for me, the staff were really friendly and I never had to had a long wait time before or after being seated. Once it was my boyfriend's birthday and they just kept checking upon us which was nice. All of their pastas are generally good but the most memorable pasta I had was the Casa Di Amore which is like my all in one pasta go to! I went here for my birthday dinner as I was craving pasta! Appetizers: We got the Arancini (stuffed rice balls, tasted more like potato balls lol) and Bacon Wrapped Scallops, which were served with a side of cocktail sauce. The scallops were good and flavourful, the arancini was just okay. Mains: Okay, so this is where we messed up. We had 4 people and we ordered 4 FULL ORDERS of pasta (the waitress recommended getting a full over a half because it was only a couple of dollars extra and a lot more food). Tbh, I think we could've all shared 1 pasta and 1 salad and we would've been happy clams. 4 was way too many! We all ate about 1/4th of our dish and couldn't put away any more - enough leftovers to last the rest of the week. I ordered the Marco Polo which was made with rosé sauce and it was good. I'd say if you're a sucker for big portions, these dishes will definitely satisfy you in that regard. Dessert: Decided to skip getting a cake this year and ordered the tiramisu. I'd recommend against it, as they use Costco's tiramisu cake and just cut it into slices ($16 for a full cake at Costco which is just across the street, $7 per slice here). We arrived at our hotel, "The Hampton Inn," met up with our family and friends, I suggested this place, told them about what we heard from two separate independent parties, and well?? You can't go wrong. We walked in with 10pp and they sat us soon afterwards. The food is served family style, so we ordered like 4 different things, and the Garlic Bread and I ordered my Peach Bellini. Pesto Pasta with Chicken, yummo. Tortallini, absolutely fantastic. I know this is a pasta restaurant but I was disappointed that there was limited in main dishes with meat options such as steak available as I would have liked a steak and pasta dish. Outside it isn't much to look at. Great & friendly service. They give a lot of food. There were four of us. My husband & I split the tomatoes & cheese salad. Can't remember what they call it, in the US we call it Caprese salad. The other couple split the large Caesar salad. They were only able to eat half of it. It's huge & it comes on a platter. The 4 of us could have shared it. The 4 of us then split the Italian Feast for 2. The pastas were cooked perfectly & not mushy. It's a-lot of food. Since we are on vacation we can't take it home. Even the regular size meals are large. My recommendation is to order the smaller meals unless you are a 22 year old linebacker. We ate before I thought about getting any photos.
