SO sorely disappointed with every aspect of this experience! When we first walked in the place was crowded and is a small space, so it was really hot and hard to breathe - however, we took this to mean the food must be really great! Service was subpar at best. The guy taking our order greeted us by saying hang on he had to go "check something in the front...I mean back", and the left us standing there. When he came back and we ordered, we waited for a while for drinks before being told we would not be served drinks until the meal came out. Still not a big deal if the food is good....but when it came out, it wasn't. I ordered the spicy vegetarian and my husband ordered hell pork ramen level II, as well as egg rolls and mochi ice cream. I'll start by saying the ramen was absolutely flavorless, corn/mushrooms in it seemed fresh out of a can or something, not cooked to add flavor. My husbands "level II" was the same spiciness as my "0.5" heat, and the pork looked like it came off a meat slicer from the super market. Noodles didn't seem fresh at all, AGAIN giving off a pre-packaged vibe. The egg rolls were okay, but nothing incredible. Mochi ice cream was mediocre (Whole Foods is actually better which should be embarrassing to a Japanese restaurant!) Tea was old and stale....how hard is it to make tea?!?!? To top it all off, anime electronica was blaring too loud for such a small space, and the place remained hot throughout our meal even once the crowd thinned. We spent $42 on this meal that I didn't even eat because it wasn't worth it! If you're used to flavor like the stuff of Very Fresh Noodles in NYC or Ramen Tatsuya in Austin, don't bother trying this! Where to start. Location: cute corner restaurant in a small shopping center. Easily located and ample parking. Atmosphere: as soon as we walk in, we notice minimal group seating. Thankfully, Ito Ramen had just opened and we were able to get a spot along the wall allowing the small families to take the large table. Since there are no menus located anywhere but at the counter, we were a bit rushed to choose our order. Food: Tonkatsu Ramen, Tokyo Spicy Ramen, Karaage Chicken, Okonomiyaki, Calpico Drink, and Guava Drink: $52.00 Tonkatsu Ramen: bland broth, small portion, two small pieces of pork, instant noodles, half egg, and some corn. It was a joke. Definitely better displayed on images online. The pork held up the most flavor but that isn't saying very much. Tokyo Spicy: same as the Tonkatsu but just with a touch of spicy. This spicy level does not make one cry or feel their mouth on fire. It may be the equivalent to adding a bit of pepper to some bland broth. Nothing special here. Karaage Chicken: MSG-pumped, nasty chicken. Overly fried. Dry. It was horrendous. Gave me chest pain as soon as I got out of my seat. Never again, Ito Ramen. I may live in San Antonio but I'm not your typical plump customer that dives into MSG garbage like the majority here. Okonomiyaki: tasty deep fried balls stuffed with octopus! But definitely felt like it was made wrong. I am by no means Japanese... but this just doesn't taste like it was made correctly. Ack! We got takeout so I totally forgot to get photos. This is a ramen shop we've enjoyed on multiple occasions since it opened. Ironically they have all been takeout except for the first visit! TAKEOUT REVIEW This is probably because they do takeout very, very well. I feel like it's basically the same experience in the restaurant as carrying it out. The broth is contained separate from the noodles and the toppings. When you get home you add the broth to the noodle bowl and it exactly fits. Even the sides have held up well in transport. It's my favorite takeout restaurant. Every time my brother and I order from here we like to order different sides to the ramen. But we get the same Tonkotsu Ramen every time. The pork broth has a lovely flavor that isn't delicate and holds up against and compliments the toppings: a soft egg, corn, mushroom, green onion and pork belly, all of which I love. The noodles taste fresh and is quite filling. I love mine with a couple naruto and it's perfect. For this meal we decided to go for the house kimchi and the red bean fish cake, even though he doesn't do spicy and I don't do red beans. And it was a good call. The kimchi wasn't mouth blastingly spicy but complimented the ramen just like a k-drama and the fish cake was surprisingly yummy and not overly sweet like American desserts. (Have my tastes changed so much since the last time I've had red bean paste?) The reason I'm going 4 star here is because the broth tasted under seasoned and our ordered naruto weren't in the bag. They don't cost much but it's the little touch we most look forward to. I'd totally recommend Ito Ramen especially if you're skeptical of takeout ramen, they do it so well. Ordered takeout they are open for patio dining only which is outdoors and the day that we wanted Ramen it was pretty cold out so we ordered through a delivery app. Tried two of the helllo spicy Ramen one at level seven the other at level for my husband love the flavor of the broth in the spiciness. I loved it as well but it was a little too hot for me so I'd have to probably do level three next time. Also tried the spicy tonkso Ramen which was not hot at all so I was able to eat That one without blowing my nose. But I would've liked a little more spiciness. The hell a spicy Ramen has way better flavor for Ramen and I'll probably stick to just that one next time. Also tried their chicken karrage which was really good. Which is fine, they're good isn't bad. However with nothing that sticks out it's just not enough for me to come back. Nothing unique or original. Someone had left a review saying something to the affect of, "you know it's real because of the anime characters on their walls." I really wanted to love this place. It seemed like the most legit ramen option in the san antonio area. However, it turned out to be very mediocre. It's slightly overpriced, I think I paid over $13 with tax for the spicy tokyo ramen. It had 2 small pieces of chashu, which were tender but nothing spectacular. Ive had other authentic ramen that's a lot better for cheaper. The noodles were wayy too al dente. I dont want my noodles soggy either, but there should be a happy medium. I think I was only able to finish half. The broth was salty but that's pretty typical. Best ramen in San Antonio fo sho. (Plus, I'm a big fan of the quick service, friendly staff, cleanliness, and cute anime decorations.) This place has been open for several months, but this was my first time visiting. For first timers, be aware that it's organized similar to a fast food restaurant: first you order and pay at the cash register, then you pick up your order (when they call your name) and enjoy it at one of the tables. After you're all done, you drop off your tray with dirty dishes at the same location you picked it up (which is the same place you order/pay). Customer service is very minimal. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen, which is my go-to whenever I visit a ramen restaurant for the first time (so I can have a baseline for comparing places). Let me just say, it was delicious. (It also arrived very quickly!) The portion was smaller than I expected, but what it lacked in quantity it made up in quality. I also ordered the Matcha drink. My friend and I were intrigued, but hesitant, about the tofu add-on ($0.50). But, being the big risk takers we are, we went for it. And it was amazing! The tofu didn't change the flavor of the drink; it simply provided a soft and smooth texture, similar to pudding (which is a common add-on to boba drinks). Beware: It's a tiny space! I've been to Ito a couple of times before writing this review and honestly I've been satisfied each time! We ordered dinner to go tonight (Wednesday) and it was just as delicious. This time I ordered the Miso Hot for the first time and it was so good, just the right amount of spicy but not too creamy like a tonkotsu. I love their tonkotsu but it sort of makes my stomach hurt. The Shoyu Chicken ramen was also really good, more so a soy sauce broth. The miso was better! We also ordered the honey cheese puffs to try and they were immaculate. So damn good. Sweet and savory. HIGHLY recommend eating in or ordering takeout, because moth experiences were wonderful! read more

I really liked this place. I've had ramen at some of the top places in the states and obviously this isn't the absolute best compared to them but holy crap it's really good! The price, to me, is not bad as I've been to places where it starts at $18. I've taken to go and I've dined in. The to go order was piping hot even when I got home and still delicious. Tip: when you take it to go GET EXTRA NOODLES! It works perfectly for saving for the next day! I got Ito Ramen both times (I don't eat pork) and holy crap, I forget it's a veggie broth!!!! SO good! We lived in Hawaii for six years and also spent time in Osaka. I was craving some Authentic Ramen so we tried Ito. Pro: the Ramen is good. Con: The noodles are not handmade nor freshly made in-house and that is a big downside in my book. the ramen noodles in our bowl looked like the noodles from the cheap ramen you can buy at a local grocery. Of course the broth and ingredients other than the noodles go a long way in making the dish flavorful and there was plenty of that. Slices of pork belly in the Ramen were exceptionally savory but there wasn't much of it. The price was hefty, two bowls of Ramen and two iced teas brought the bill in at over $30. The tables and seating in the tiny restaurant are authentic to what you might find in a small ramen shop in Japan. Stools without backs, small tables and a few LARGE tables seating four tightly, and one high long table against the wall with taller stools allowing about ten people to sit facing the wall side by side. The entire restaurant is very tight space-wise. The restaurant has the appearance of a take out storefront. when you enter there is a clerk behind a cash register to take your order then they want you to come to the counter to pick up a tray and serve it yourself at your table. A Sign on the tables asks you to return the bowls when finished. We anticipated a sit down restaurant with a wait staff, not here. read more

Ito Ramen advertises as having Hakata style ramen. Having been to Hakata-ku, Fukuoka and trying many different styles of tonkotsu, I am pleased to say that Ito Ramen delivers on their promise of a Hakata tonkotsu ramen. I'm a bit of a ramen snob and have tried almost all the ramen offering in San Antonio with great disappointment (Here's looking at you Osaka on Broadway, literally serving Instant packets of Shin Ramyun for $9). Bar none, Ito Ramen provides the most authentic ramen in San Antonio today. The milky white tonkotsu broth is not too oily, too salty, or too rich, the tonkotsu flavor is very clean and simple. The noodles are curly and not to be confused with the instant deep fried variety you find in $.50 packs of Maruchan, although Hakata is more known for very thin straight noodles, the noodles used by Ito Ramen are still good, not to chewy and not to stiff. Although they are still in their soft opening, I was disappointed to find the spicy tonkotsu was not available yet, togarashi is available behind the counter if you ask, I look forward to trying their spicy tonkotsu when it is available. I would like to see customization options added to the menu, I prefer my tonkotsu a bit more rich and with extra garlic. One of my favorite ramen restaurants in Japan uses a system where the diner sits down and uses a sheet of paper and a pencil to circle how he/she would like the ramen prepared, options such as richness, dashi strength, amount of garlic, amount of spicy topping. It would be great if one or two of these options were added, particularly garlic. The interior of the store has a very nice ambiance with colorful and low intensity lighting. Seating is limited, although parking is easy to find Update 4/15/18: Now that Ito Ramen has transitioned from soft-opening to full opening, the menu has expanded to include many new delicious options. Spicy Tonkotsu - when this menu item was introduced during the soft opening I had some reservations about the ratio of spice to broth, but now that I've tried it again after the full openjng, I can say that they have improved on the first implementation, the spice to broth ratio is now perfect, maintaining the creamy smooth Tonkotsu flavor with just the right ammount of spice that doesn't overpower the soup. I will defiantly be ordering my Tonkotsu spicy from now on. I continue to be amazed that good Tonkotsu is so accessable here in San antonio, I've been to Ito Ramen 5 times now and would come more often if I didn't live across the city read more
