I'm an honest person and I will tell you if a place sucks(check my reviews) and this place is on another level. They just opened so any 4 star reviews is because they are working out the kinks. My server Beau was so, so, so, good and knew his product, came and delivered every time at the right time and was extremely friendly and professional. To the owners: Do not let go the names I dropped in this review. They are all A1. SUCH A KILLER TEAM. Then Adrian and Alex the Sushi Chefs (and Kas) lit my world up with a house special specifically for me with a Toro that had a sauce I've never tasted. All in the good company of my family. They don't take reservations. We arrived around 5pm on a Saturday and were immediately seated at a table. Our server was nice but unfortunately, a few things we ordered never got submitted to the kitchen and we had to keep asking for hot sauce multiple times before we finally got it. We got there during Happy Hour and started with the Pink Panther drink (5/5) and Spicy Edamame (4/5). I tried my friend's vegan ramen and thought it tasted really good. I ordered the Chef's Nigiri Sampler (4/5). After eating, we went into their speakeasy, Kage. It's Tokyo themed and so cute! We sat at the bar and received really good service from the bartender. Came here with 2 friends on a Saturday afternoon. Its very convenient, right in Old Town Temecula. Parking - we parked at the parking garage and walked around and my friends decided they were hungry and wanted to check out this spot. One guy ordered the ramen - and got really sick later that day, and we weren't sure if the ramen may have caused that, since I don't believe he even had any sushi. My other guy friend ordered the 4x4 sushi platter, and I got to try one of each. It was pretty good sushi. This spot is more on the expensive side, but its for the ambiance of the restaurant. Its nice and fancy - but lacks attention to details. Restrooms weren't nice. Service - no complaints, but nothing exactly memorable, which is both a good and bad thing. This place is nice out of convenience if you're in Old Town (although I wouldn't mind driving a little to a nicer and cheaper spot), but its not likely for me to go out of my way to refer my friends to come back here. read more

Our server beau was absolutely great! He had an awesome personality and great customer service. This new sushi spot actually surprised me! The fish was really good and fresh! We tried the hot Cheeto sushi roll which was better than I expected if you like hot Cheetos you have to try it! They had a lot of indoor and even outdoor seating the wait wasn't bad on a Friday afternoon. The food came out quickly as well. Def will be back to try more sushi rolls on their menu. Sunday wasn't busy around dinner time. Right after we had cocktails at the speakeasy located next to the hostess counter. Once you walk in it's like you're transported to Japan. (3/5) This was our first visit to Kage Speakeasy and Tabu Sushi & Grill. We ended up having a great evening, but it started with a lot of unnecessary confusion. First, the positives. Kage is absolutely beautiful. The Japanese-inspired décor, lanterns, neon lighting, and overall atmosphere really set the tone. It has a unique vibe that feels intimate, stylish, and thoughtfully designed. The bartenders were fantastic, knowledgeable, attentive, and their cocktail recommendations were excellent. The drinks were beautifully presented, and once we were seated at Tobu, our server was just as wonderful. The food and service were great. Unfortunately, our experience with the host was disappointing. We were told the wait for Tabu would be about 20 minutes, and when we asked if we could wait inside Kage with a drink, the host told us yes. Since it was our first visit, we naturally assumed we had been added to the restaurant's waitlist. About 45 minutes later, we found out our name had never been added because Kage and Tabu have separate hosts. That was never explained to us, even though we had the conversation right in front of both hosts. A simple explanation or quick handoff could have prevented the entire misunderstanding. What bothered me most wasn't the mistake, it was the lack of communication afterward. There was no acknowledgment or apology for the confusion. I also asked the same host where the restroom was since it was my first visit. She replied, "At the restroom," while vaguely pointing toward herself. Because we were inside an enclosed speakeasy, I had no way of knowing the restrooms were actually outside the speakeasy, inside the restaurant near the bar area. I ended up wandering around until I eventually found them. Thankfully, one of the bartenders stepped in to help, even though it wasn't responsibility. He checked with the restaurant staff, and shortly afterward we were finally seated. Although we had originally requested a table, we were seated at the sushi bar instead. By then, we were simply happy to finally eat and didn't want to make a bigger issue out of it. We appreciated that someone took the initiative to help us after all the confusion. Once we were seated, everything changed. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we enjoyed our meal. The food, drinks, bartenders, and restaurant staff were all excellent and truly turned the evening around. As first-time guests, we were simply trying to enjoy a night out together, and a little communication and hospitality at the beginning would've made all the difference. I'd absolutely come back for the atmosphere, drinks, food, and the outstanding bartenders and restaurant staff. My only suggestion is that management improve communication between the hosts and restaurant team. Kage and Tabu have everything they need to be a five-star experience it just needs to start with the same level of hospitality at the front door as it does throughout the rest of the experience. read more

Stopped by for the Happy hour, says Everyday from 11am- 6pm I believe. And it's any beer, which they had a pretty big selection. Happy hour included house wines, well drinks & sake. Good for Happy hour. Our server Beau was great. I like the happy hour, the price point for the drinks is good and also some good food choices. They could use a few more sushi rolls on the happy hour menu. We tried quite a few of the specialty rolls but I am not sure the high price justifies the labeling special. read more

As is the case for many, we wanted to visit KAGE and it was expected 45m wait. So we tried Tabu. Menu seemed fairly wide with lotsa options. Cant explain the overuse of cream cheese in there offering, which is not standard fare for sushi with the exception of 1-2 american rolls and was a deterrant for many choices. Maybe a local thing. We had a roll and 2 soups for lite snack. Our friends had ramen and a roll. Not bad, but not great either. Rolls were over sauced a bit but edible. Service was excellent. They have a sc for cc use of 3% which i find in today's world out if touch with today's dining consumer. I can see a mom and pop place doing that but felt this is a lazy effort to manage their expense. Not sure if would go back unless there wasn't other options and even that may not be enough. Happy hour seemed like a fair trade to shortcomings. read more

Very disappointing experience. The service was extremely slow, and we couldn't even find our server most of the time. We got sat by the door which I noticed got neglected because its more separated from the main dining area. Our appetizer didn't come out until after we had already finished our rolls. The chicken fried rice bowl tasted burnt, had almost no seasoning, and wasn't even like fried rice at all. We also noticed another family sending food and drinks back, so it didn't seem like we were the only ones having issues. The restaurant also adds a 3% fee to "offset rising costs". The water had a strong tap water taste, and the beer was flat. We weren't served water with our meal until we asked. Slow service, extra fee, and poor food quality made for a disappointing visit. Finally came to Tabu since hearing about its grand reopening and loved the layout. Alex helped us with our sushi rolls and they were amazing and he was very helpful (lemon cilantro roll, dragon roll & afterburner). Absolutely the worst service I've experienced in a long time. This was our first visit, and we were genuinely excited to try a new restaurant in town. Unfortunately, it was disappointing from start to finish. Our server repeatedly got our order wrong. We never received the shishito peppers we ordered, and we weren't informed that the restaurant had run out of oysters until near the end of our meal--long after we had been waiting for them. The biggest issue came with the sushi order. I ordered the 4-piece Sushi Sampler, pointing directly to it on the menu. I didn't realize there was also a separate 5-piece Chef's Sushi Sampler listed. When our sushi arrived, it looked different from the picture I had pointed to, but I assumed the presentation or sauces were simply different, as that's common at many restaurants. We ate it without thinking much of it. When the bill came, we noticed we had been charged for the more expensive Chef's Sushi Sampler, even though we served only 4 pieces-which is why we never questioned that it may have been the wrong order. We politely brought it to their attention, expecting them to acknowledge what appeared to be a simple ordering mistake. Instead, our server and another staff member insisted that because we hadn't questioned the dish when it arrived, there was nothing they could do. The conversation felt dismissive, and rather than taking any responsibility, they implied the mistake was ours. The $10 price difference isn't what bothered us. It was the complete lack of accountability and the way the situation was handled. Good customer service isn't about never making mistakes--it's about how you respond when they happen. Unfortunately, instead of making things right, we left feeling blamed and unwelcome. We were really hoping this would become one of our new local favorites, but after this experience, we won't be returning. read more

So I let my server know and she said well I can ring you something else up and comp it which was very generous as I was thinking I was not going to order anything else but since she said she would comp it I decided to try something else. When the bill came the item they originally said they would comp for me was still on there. So I told the manager word for word what the server said. The server then mentioned that her boss wouldn't allow it. So paid the bill then left. A couple hours later the whole group I was with including myself all got food poisoning.
