Can't speak for anything other than regular cleanings and my dental insurance covers that aspect of seeing Dr. Serdar - however it's rare that anyone should get excited to go to the dentist, but it's so relaxing at Dr. Serdar's office, that I actually look forward to it. I just discovered Dr Serdar and his practice when our previous dentist retired. (I'm thrilled he did retire because otherwise we wouldn't have found Dr. Serdar.) I had my first visit to fix a nasty cracked tooth that needed a new crown. Dr Serdar was fantastic, the best dentist I've ever been to - patient and sensitive to any discomfort I might be having. The high technology capabilities at his facility had my tooth fixed in 90 minutes - including an on site computer 3D created crown. Wow. I am recommending him to every one I know. His staff were also fantastic. The fact that his office in a great part of San Francisco didn't hurt either. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. read more

I love Dr. Serdar's office. I have been going to him since 2003. His hygenists are gentle and kind, and he has the best toothside manner.

This is the best dentist office in SF. The office manager, Carmen, is fabulous and often emails me within the hour for any questions or clarifications on my coverage. Dr. Serdar is honest and does not push for unnecessary procedures. He does the first cleaning so he can "get to know your teeth." Plus, every dental assistant has been gentle & thorough with my cleanings (they don't use that scary drill thing for cleanings; they do it manually). I looked far and wide for a dentist that met my expectations. I've had horrible experiences and frankly was ready to give up. After three years I finally found a dentist that was amazing. The office is beautiful, it over looks union square. The staff is friendly (good looking) and helpful. They are paperless- meaning the forms you read and sign are all on a hand help computer device. Last time I went to get a cleaning I watched sex in the city. Awesome! Ivan is kind and really takes his time explaining what needs to be done or what's about to happen. He's gentle and professional. I like going here. Really. I look forward to my visits. Also I hate talking on the phone so it totally rocks that I can set up confirm or change my appointments via email. read more

The best cleaning I've had in years -- and as a health professional myself, it's wonderful to see that they hold themselves to the highest standards. I'm not at all surprised to read all the great comments here on Yelp about Dr. Serdar. He's the best dentist I've ever had... and I really like going to the dentist now! It doesn't hurt that the office is gorgeous, they play good music (and movies!) and have a great view of Union Square.... but all this would be meaningless if the actual dentistry weren't of high quality. Can you imagine being comfortable at the dentist, even thinking about your next visit as you look out on Union Square or watch TV? Neither could I until this morning- my first visit to Dr. Serdar! Dr. Serdar and his staff are friendly, professional and make you feel welcome. I felt like a guest not a patient. I almost forgot I was at a dental office, it was more like a spa. I was a new patient at this office by recommendation. The initial visit was fine ( X-rays, cleaning, etc) but the prices are crazy. They are so expensive and even with insurance the prices are ridiculous. I had to pay almost $400 for my initial visit out of pocket because the original fees were that much more. Moreover, they ordered full X-rays for me when I had just taken X-rays half a year ago at another dentist. Although it is my job to know my dentist history, if they were on the lookout for doing what is best for the patient, they would explain that these X-rays are needed and every dentist will have done them. So, if I'm a new patient, chances are I have X-rays somewhere, so they could have at least asked if I had done X-rays recently and if so, to send them over instead of actively giving me X-rays. Instead, I feel that they are overzealous in assigning procedures that are so expensive and pointless. The tipping point was the prices on fillings. The fees for fillings is 385 per posterior single surface filling. This is expensive compared to most dentists in SF, Palo Alto, etc. I talked to the receptionist on the phone and she was unhelpful and unwilling to understand. read more

I have seen this dentist once for an emergency and once for a routine cleaning. During the first visit, he was quite convinced I needed a root canal. Fortunately, the specialist he referred me to for the root canal realized I didn't in fact need a root canal. The administrative staff at the office enforces what appears to be a very strict 72 hour cancellation policy, so when I needed to cancel my appointment for my cleaning, I tried calling the office three times--every time I got an answering machine. So, I radically adjusted my schedule to get to his office. When I arrived, I was told by the dental assistant that in fact, I didn't even need a cleaning because I had scaling several weeks earlier. I think anyone in my position would have been annoyed. When I asked to speak with Dr. Serdar he said that I did need a cleaning and that the assistant was misinformed. He then told me that I had only had one side of my mouth scaled though. When I informed him that I had both sides of my mouth done, he looked at my chart (likely for the first time) and realized that in fact I was correct. He then told me that they don't really adhere to the cancellation policy--it's just a tactic to get patients to keep their appointments. Here are some tips to help your patients "see value in the care they receive" (1) don't institute and promise to strongly enforce a "fear factor" policy that you don't adhere to (2) don't tell your patients they need serious dental procedures that in fact they do not (3) have someone available to answer the phone (4) review a patient's chart in ADVANCE of their visit so that you are well versed on their dental care to date Furthermore, I have never been to the dentist for a cleaning and only saw the assistant. I'll be conferring with my insurance company on this to be sure I and they were properly charged. read more

I used to be horribly afraid of the dentist until I started seeing Dr. Serdar. He is amazingly gentle and skilled. They use a topical anesthetic before using the needle so I literally feel no pain at all. The office is beautiful and feels like entering a spa. Each chair has it's own TV where you can watch TV. Carmen at the front desk is very helpful and kind. The whole staff seems to be in a good mood and knows what they are doing. I give their office 5 starts because I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. read more

Dr. Serdar is great. His staff is great too. I've been very impressed with his work and his commitment to quality. Once he wasn't satisfied with his placement of a crown (I hadn't noticed anything), and offered to fix it for free. I've been a patient of Dr. Serdar's for over two years as he was recommended to me when I moved to San Francisco. I can't say enough kind words to describe how I feel completely taken care of by Dr. Serdar, his dental assistants, hygienists and Carmen who manages the front desk. By trade I'm an executive assistant and Carmen "rules" with exceptional customer service. There is also a new person at the front desk, and although I didn't get her name today (5/19/09), like Carmen she was also at the top of her game when it came to customer service and was very welcoming. I love the fact the office is "paperless" as well. This is the first office that really is pain-free. For example, I had a root canal today and didn't even know Dr. Serdar was administering the novocane because the area was pre-numbed. He also guides you through what he is doing each step of the way. Even if he's done the procedure 1,000 times it felt like he was "there" for me and so very kind and patient. At the risk of gushing I'll stop now but honestly folks Dr. Serdar is the best dentist I have ever been associated with and I'm 58 years young. read more
