This is a quaint cafe/bakery, and we found parking in front. They also have a sign that states there is more parking in the back. Staff were professional, but interactions were not particularly warm and welcoming, which is why they received 3 stars. We got 2 cinnamon buns, a Boston cream, a glazed donut, and cheese-and-caramel mix popcorn. Donuts were soft and fresh, but hubby didn't care for the popcorn. Iverson's bakery has been a staple in the community for many years. They have a new location on Western avenue and it is beautiful! I was able to get a latte and order some pastries. You can also purchase ice cream as well as popcorn. There is plenty of seating, it is tastefully decorated with an old bakery style feel. What I'm most excited about.. in the back there is an outdoor deck! It is so beautiful. It has an amazing mural from The lyric theater which sits next door and has overhead lighting which is a must on any patio! I ordered a chocolate eclairs and cream puffs, favorites of mine and my parents! The team members are younger kids who are very polite, attentive, and are great at making recommendations. Iversen's is an absolute neighborhood treasure, the kind of warm, old‑school bakery where the smell of fresh donuts, sweet rolls, and coffee cake hits you the second you walk in and you instantly know you're in the right place (they've been here since 1959). Every pastry I've tried has been incredibly fresh and flavorful, from the classic donuts and coffee to the beautiful cakes and holiday treats that we get for our staff parties. The people who work here are genuinely friendly and helpful, happy to walk you through the choices and make suggestions (they have popcorn and ice cream too). It's clear they take real pride in what they do. I'm grateful to have a place like Iversen's to go instead of Starbucks, who couldn't even hold a candle to them! We frequently enjoy Iversen's donuts at Two Mile, so naturally I reached out to them for a large order of donut holes for a birthday party. They advised that I needed to place the order three days in advance. After I placed it, the manager followed up to let me know they could make different styles of donut holes and wanted to be sure they were making the type I wanted. From start to finish, the folks at Iversen's were super helpful and accommodating! The chocolate donut holes were the stand out! They have these girls that can't fix their face to say "you're welcome." I always say thank to which I get "no problem." I didn't know we had a problem. The owner isn't very friendly either. Pros: First of all, the customer service here is wonderful! Seriously, they have some of the nicest staff. I asked what something was and the lady described it and even gave me a sample! It was some small cookie and it was delicious, so I ordered a few to go. My BF ordered a donut and he loved it. Cons: Unfortunately, they run out of things or don't make things regularly- like certain breads. So, make sure you call ahead to confirm they have what you want before you show up and are disappointed- which is what happened to me. If they had simply run out, I would say that's just my luck, because the item is probably delicious, but in my case, the woman said they didn't make any and she didn't know when they would make it. That was a bit of a surprise. I figured the bread was a staple since so many people comment on how good it is. I also ordered a cupcake, and it was okay. It wasn't something I'd go back for. But those cookie were good! Next time, I'll call before going and confirm they have what I want and I'll try some other pastries. read more

The donuts, rolls, danishes, ETC are soooo fresh and perfect! I ordered a dozen for my office and everyone raved about what they picked. Customer service was awesome too. Since I was a first time customer, I wanted to see what they had. The counter lady seemed a little preoccupied. I went outside and came back in and knew what I wanted: apple tart, cherry tart, bear claw, and two glazed donuts, all of which were delicious. I tipped the counter lady a dollar, just to brighten her day. It was like a miracle day brightener! She found a big smile and gave me some further information about the bakery. It is what it is: a local, neighborhood bakery. And if you put it up against any other old school, local, neighborhood bakery that's been around for 50 YEARS, Iversen's will come out on top. It's predictable, an unpretentious throwback to the good ol' days, and delicious. Expect the classics. Their donuts are great, can't go wrong with any of them. I love the Atomic cake, another olde timey fav. Swiss Chocolate Torte is good too. It's the place to go when you need a sweet roll for a meeting. They do holiday favorites like paczki and zeppole - I look forward to the latter all year long. Depending on the time of year you can find king cakes, buche de noel, a bunch of Swedish xmas cookies (especially their anise cookies!) and all sorts of special occasion treats. Their cookie case is filled with the decorated sugar cookies you remember as a kid. I love their pie. They always have pie, but the best are the seasonal offerings, like strawberry rhubarb. It's also a great place to go for a humble loaf of sliced bread. Butter top white or onion & poppyseed (only available on Thursday) is delish. The onion bread turns any sammy into something special. Try it with sliced roast beef from Stefanelli's. If you're visiting the Island, stop here first. You're sure to be the hit of the party. We won't tell 'em you didn't bake it yourself. read more

I belong to an organization that has relied on Iversen's baked goods for a large Scandinavian fundraiser/celebration held in Geneva Illinois for many years. The new Iversen's has the same recipes and I'm told, many of the same bakers. The owners were professional and went out of their way to accommodate our large order and were responsive to my emails and or phone calls. Most importantly, the baked goods were just as delicious as in the past. I look forward to working with them and enjoying their bakery goods for our celebration again next year. My only regret is that I live in Texas. I have no choice but to wait until I am back in Illinois in June of 2024. read more

This is the best bakery on the South Side. Everything I've had here has been wonderful. Their bread, toast, doughnuts, cookies, tarts, and fruit-filled pastries have all been spot on. On my recent trip I purchased two strawberry tarts, two cinnamon rolls, and two slices of sweet, crunchy toast. My total was under $5; you can't beat that for fresh pastries! So, unlike what others have said I find them super reasonable on price point. They even have tables set up where a lot of things are half price, which is great for the budget conscious. The staff was very friendly on my visit too, as others have mentioned. The kind lady behind the counter was helpful and nice with letting me take my time to soak it all in & decide what I would like. The old Iversen's: amazing. The new iversens with a new owner: not great. Positives: the coffee cake didn't have much substance but tasted good. The danish were just okay. Negatives: the carrot cake frosting was definitely different than previously and the carrots in my carrot cake were dark moldy green color. I legit thought I ate mold. According to Google it's from too much baking soda or not mixing well enough. Which brings me to my next point. The cookies were pre packed and were stale. Some cookies were very salty while others were not. It was as if they didn't mix well enough. I don't know what Iversen's is doing but they need to get bakers in there that know how to bake and they need follow the old recipes. Side note, I've also heard from someone else that the donuts were a huge disappointment read more

This is the bakery that dreams are made of! I grew up in the next town over and this was always my mom's go-to place for danish, donuts, coffee cakes and other sweet treats. The bakery looks like time forgot about it and really takes you back to when quality mattered. We were recently back in town and picked our accommodations so that we could be close to Iversen's. No doubt about it, they are the best! If you are lucky enough to be here on a Wednesday, try the crullers. They offer a wide variety of sweets: cakes, donuts, pastries, breads, etc. There's nothing I particularly adore, but I will say it can satisfy my sweet tooth when I'm in the area. I've tried breads, cookies, and donuts from here before. My fiancee and I were recently in the area searching for a wedding cake. They politely took our names and told us to pick up a sample cake the next day. We had a whole 5" cake (er about that size) to ourselves the next day as promised. That is the most amazing service we've experienced on our quest for the perfect wedding cake yet! The frosting was a little too thick and lardy for our tastes, but we loved the fact that it wasn't overly sweet, sugary, or grainy. The buttercream flavor was mild, too. The cake was pretty good. Just dense enough, but not quiiiiite the flavor we were looking for. We'd also like to note that we were confident in their designs, despite the outdated wedding cake photo album (some of their photos are not their work and come straight from the wedding cake decorating book, which seems like standard practice). read more

They are the absolute best! And take it from me, I'm half Polish so I know good Paczki! I have been buying items from Iversen's bakery for more than 20 years. Their products are always fresh. Their pastries are unbelievable. Their donuts are mouth watering, and their cookies are unchallenged. They also have a variety of fresh homemade breads, and we must not forget the coffee, hot chocolate, milk, juices and pop. My only displeasures are that they aren't open on Sundays and close so early on the days that they are open. I think 8:00p or 9:0p is the perfect time to close.
