This place is the best Mexican bakery on the south side. We drive 10-15 minutes out of our way just to get some bread here. Its fairly priced and of the highest quality. I love that the breads aren't too sweet and never taste eggy or greasy. My first time trying this bakery on "Día de Los Reyes" for the Rosca de Reyes. They did not disappoint us at all. I was just happy finding a place close to home with roscas available with options. They had a small size with one Jesus doll from $11-14 that you can get plain, cheese filling, or pineapple filling. The larger one had the same options but I can't remember the exact price ($20-30). The rosca was delicious, moist and the jellied candy/fruit was fresh. I had some in the past that were so dry! Thank goodness this was not. The only thing that I noticed that was different than others was this was more flattened. I would give the bakery 5 stars, but I was not able to try their conchas because they were all out. We have been going to Navarro's for a few years now. We love the cookies and breads. For the third time now (and our last), we have had terrible luck with cakes. We have tried three different combinations and all have been disappointing. 50.00 for a half sheet cake, covered with whipped cream icing and the decorated. The biggest issues are the dryness of the cake and each time the cake was supposed to have a layer of fruit filling or in the final cake, ganache. Attached is a picture of the cake which includes the ganache middle layer. As you can see, the ganache is virtually invisible and it costs 10.00 for them to smear less than jelly on a peanut butter sandwich. All three cakes have been like this. I had the worst experience this weekend I was so excited to celebrate my son's and daughters birthday party this weekend. I decided to get a cake from Navarros bakery because I have had cake at a party before from this bakery. I ordered a tres leches cake that is my son's favorite cake. And I ordered a Different flavor for my daughter. So on the day of his party when I opened the box to cut the cake all I could smell was coconut I did not order coconut cake. When everyone tried the cake we all said the same thing that this cake tasted like coconut I said but I didn't order a cake that had coconut in it.. So I called the bakery this morning to ask if they had put coconut in my cake. The lady said to me she did not know what ingredients were put in the cake so she spoke to someone and then said to me that they put coconut essence in the cake. She said that the three leches cake does not contain coconut she said that there is a lot of bakers in the bakery and every Baker puts different measurements in the cake and she has no control if some Baker's put more coconut essence then the other bakers and that's why maybe it had a stronger taste of coconut I explained to her that this taste of the cake was all coconut.
