I've been going to Dr. Tran since I was in middle school and I am now in my mid twenties. She's very knowledgeable and definitely knows what she is doing. I've had different insurance plans over the years and she always knows what is covered and makes sure I am aware. She's open on Saturdays and I have never had to wait to be seen. Major points in my book. I also appreciate that her and her staff wear masks because it makes me feel like they are prioritizing the health and safety of others. I definitely recommend her. I've been going to Dr Tran for about 15 years.. when I moved to Cypress, after seeing a new dr, I quickly realized how a visit to Dr Tran's office was well worth the drive. Recently, I called to make an appointment because I had been seeing floaters for over a week.. within an hour, Dr Tran called me to advise I needed to see a Retina Specialist as she didn't want to delay time to make sure I didn't have anything she couldn't determine at her office. THANK GOODNESS she did! I ended up having to have emergency surgery to avoid a more serious condition (retina detachment). If it weren't for Dr Tran being honest and taking the right steps in getting me taken care of, I may not have sight today. Dr Tran takes care of her patients with heart and a true understanding of just how precious our vision is. I was really shocked to see the bad reviews of this place. I guess it's a good thing I went before I looked that the reviews. Actually the first time I went was last year. I had just moved down here and this happened to be the closest optometrist to me so I chose her. I hadn't purchased new contacts in a year and it had been even longer for my glasses (maybe three or four years). I was planning on getting new contacts first and then waiting a year and getting new glasses so I could get both covered by my insurance. Well, as it turns out my glasses snapped in half and I tore my last pair of contacts. Yeahhh... So anyhow, I made a quick appointment and MaiAnh was able to see me that day (and she is open on Saturdays...major plus for me!). I was able to actually use my medical insurance to buy glasses and then use my eye insurance to buy contacts. It was really awesome. I got both contact and eye exam and was able to leave there with a pair of contacts. I came back later to pick my frames because she said I could pick frames at any place so naturally I priced out lots of different frame stores. I ended up getting frames at her place and of course the lenses were from her. The only thing I regret is not going to 1-800-CONTACTS to get my contacts. I ended up ordering them through her since it was easier. It is always more expensive at the optometrist. I am planning to go for my second visit soon and I will update if I have a different experience. read more

I just needed to fix the nose cushions and get my screws tightened on my shades. Stopped in here and they did it for $5 bucks in 5 mins. I know its not much to do for glasses but my short and sweet visit was pleasant. Obviously I can't comment on prescriptions or otherwise... but if you need a quick tune up... they can do the job! read more

My boyfriend just went in there to see if they could assist him with putting his contacts in (he's never worn contacts before) and to say they weren't very helpful would be an understatement. In their thick Asian accents, they said to him, "Why they not teach you how to put them in when you buy them? Ohhhhh, we have to charge you $30" his response was basically I was busy when I bought them and the $30 charge is fine, can you please just help me put them in and stop talking about my contacts, where I got them or why the place didn't show me how to put them in. They kept harassing him about his contacts and where did he get them from and why he didn't already know how to put them in versus helping him put them in and taking his money (he was more than FINE paying their fee!!!). Based on his experience, I would definitely not go to this place or recommend it for any of my eye care or lenses. read more

I have been going to Dr Tran for well over 20 years. She is the best Eye Dr I have ever gone to and I truly believe she goes above and beyond what is required of her. She spends a lot of time going over the many changes in my vision. I'm in my 60's and have had MANY optometrists over the years. I will never go anywhere else. I have been starting to have some age related issues with my eyes and have found her very reassuring, as well as extremely knowledgeable on what to expect. Today I had an emergency and she got me right in - within the hour! How many Dr's can you say that about? Both my husband and I think she is top notch and we will continue to go to her as long as she's around! read more

I've been to maybe 3 eye doctors in my life and this one doesn't seem right. The contacts examination was cheap compared to some other shops nearby. She made a mistake when I told her I wanted to put my contacts exam's cost under my insurance allowance. But thankfully it still worked out since I ordered contacts from visiondirect.com and it was barely over my allowance limit. Dr Tran herself is very fluent in English and is sharp. I question her practices of trying to pressure me to order contacts through her. She charges prices that are 100% more than online sellers. Probably wouldn't go back or recommend her. read more

My eye pressure reading was taken. I was told I had a high pressure reading in my eyes which is an indicator of early onset glaucoma. I'm thirty. When I went to get a second opinion, I was told that there is much more than just the pressure reading that determines glaucoma. Also, my pressure reading was completely normal. I've been seeing Dr. Tran (pun intended) for about 10 years or more now. I've always been happy with the results of my exams with her. My glasses and contacts have always been right. She and her office have always been on top of following up on new contact prescriptions to ensure they're just right. She's given me excellent advice regarding bifocals and progressives and astigmatism contact lenses. And now, thanks to the Affordable Health Care Act, my co-pay through Blue Cross/Blue Shield is only $20 for an eyeglasses-only exam, whereas an exam with my previous insurance would have cost much more. Saw Dr. Tran and was very impressed. I came a few minutes early for my appointment, no waiting..fill out some forms & let the testing begin! Very thorough, spent plenty of time with me, never seemed rushed. Personable, conversational and competent. Did multiple tests. Walked out with prescription. Will be back to get lenses & frames. Best thing is total price was under $100 while other places were $250+. I'm not looking for a bargain for my eyes, but I'm happy to pay less and get more. Highly recommend. read more

I actually am quite picky about services, and particularly health services, that I receive. I have terrible vision and have been going to one eye doctor or another for almost as long as I've been alive (that's about two decades...or three, but who's counting). I wrote off TSO and other chain eye doctors long ago because I felt like I was being pushed through an assembly line of eye doctors, glasses fitters, and contacts orderers. I've been going to Ivision and seeing Dr. Tran for two years now, and I've never felt the assembly line feel that you often get from the larger chain stores. Dr. Tran herself was very knowledgeable about my insurance plan and was able to explain all of the nuances of my coverage plan to me when I arrived and started asking questions about my coverage. I did have the contacts exam (it was pretty clear to me that I was participating in a contacts fitting exam when Dr. Tran asked me to go try the contacts on...not sure how the previous commentator made it through the entire contacts fitting exam without realizing that she'd taken this necessary step), and I was actually pleasantly surprised because it did in fact seem much more thorough than contacts exams I'd had in the past. There were a couple of different machines and different tests that I hadn't recalled taking in the two decades of eye exams that I'd had in the past, so I asked Dr. Tran what all the new ones measured and revealed about my eyes. She was very patient in explaining to me the details of the tests and of my eye health, so I decided to take advantage of her patience and ask her what in the world "20/20" means. Of course I know what it means -- it means you can see well -- but I've never understood what it REALLY means or what it REALLY measures and I've never had the courage to ask any of the other impersonal eye doctors I've had previously. She explained the concept of "20/20" to me without a wince or any sign of impatience, and it was then that I knew that she would be my eye doctor for a long time. I actually have only bought contacts over the last two years (my eyes are terrible as I mentioned previously, so not only is it generally unpleasant to catch glimpses of myself in spectacles reminiscent of coke bottles, but it's also quite expensive to have those coke bottles made in the first place, so I only buy them every three years or so); however, I have flirted with the frames in the store on occasions while I've waited for my eyes to dilate. If you're looking for pretty fashionable frames that are not your typical large chain company brand and style, I would also recommend stopping in just to check out the selection. I can easily find quite a few frames that I would like for myself, and once I'm ready to spend the money on new lenses for myself, I'm sure I'll find the frames I'm looking for here as well. I don't typically post to these websites (and was honestly almost deterred from doing so today by the YELP registration page AND the required email confirmation), but when I came to look up Ivision's phone number and saw the reviewer below described a very different experience from my own, I felt it important to take the time to post my experience as well. This was my first eye doctor that I have seen since moving to Houston, based purely on distance from my house. After a weary review from my fiancée I decided to go anyway and try for myself. I have had a serious issue with my eyes (whenever I put in a pair of contacts they would turn bright red and cause blurred vision; even if it was a new pair). My experience with the doctor went like this: she discounted my irritation and told me that I have dry eyes (like sandpaper) and bumps have developed as a result and that I should get eye drops for lubrication. Then gave me the wrong prescription (I know this because it was blurry in my eye when I put in the sample contact). She said "ok we'll just bump up the prescription then" and let me walk out of the office with contacts that clearly weren't my perscripton. Then, like clock work, I left the office and 2 minutes later my eyes became inflamed so I ran back in to show her and she just continued to reiterate how dry my eyes are with no resolution, no prescription for drops, nothing. I knew something was wrong so I went to Pearle Vision on Kirby (which was AMAZING by the way) and with a THOROUGH investigation he found out I had a bacterial infection on my corneas causing partial/temporary blurred vision and that they had infiltrated my corneas. So now, I know that I wasn't crazy and I am being treated appropriately. So needless to say, I will not be returning. read more

I love this place and have gone here for a few years. I buy all my contacts and glasses from ivision. I always take the responsibility MYSELF to ask her upfront about costs and the bottom line and she is ALWAYS honest and forthcoming with information. She can only predict what the costs will be in terms of insurance coverage, but she is not the insurance carrier and is bound naturally by what they say. Be familiar and educated with your insurance or just flat right out ask her, "whats this going to cost me?" It is your responsibility, NOT hers to ask questions and get an estimate of what you will be paying. She is running a business, and will try to sell her product...naturally. Sure I have found cheaper prices on lenses at Walmart and online, but the quality from a doctor that you know and trust is invaluable to me. We actually sat and chatted for a while during my visit about insurance and what would be the best option for me in terms of getting them to cover contacts versus glasses based on my plan. Sounds like the bad reviews may be from misunderstandings and not accuracy or competence from Tran. Just my opinion, but an opinion from someone who has given Tran my business for over 3 years. read more

I wont be going back ever. They got my prescription wrong because it was too weak. When I told Tran she gave excuses and pseudo reasons why they messed up and wanted to re examine me. I did go to be examined again and I picked up a copy of my old prescription and took that with me. The difference in the nonprescription that they came up with and my old one was not huge but it was not very close either, they should have done a better job with all those electronics in the back. Even after I showed Tran the difference in the prescriptions in black and white she did not volunteer to order new glasses and contacts. Only after I insisted did they reorder my stuff. One thing Tran said was "that is why we ask people to bring their old glasses" so they can use this little machine in the one of the rooms to measure your old prescription and use that as a benchmark. Obviously unless you give them your old glasses or provide them your old prescription they can not figure out the proper prescription for themselves. They suck! I called my insurance before I went back to complain. I found out that it is my right that they reorder my glasses and contacts - this they MUST do - and when they did Tran tried to make it seem like they were doing me a favor! When I picked up my glasses they didn't bother t o offer to fit them or adjust them to my face so I had to go back for that. It is amazing that this place can be in business. I have had eye exams every year for 38 years, these people don't know what they are doing. They also said off the wall unprofessional things and jokes and tried to sell me stuff I didn't need. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO ELSEWHERE! read more
