We stopped for lunch on our way back home based on the Yelp reviews we read. We wanted to sit outside, but the inside is so unique with the silver colors/decorations that I wish I was comfortable eating inside restaurants because it looked very cool. The outside area has about 10 tables and it's nicely decorated. The menu is a variety of sandwiches, salads and hamburgers. Our server was very sweet and got our iced tea quickly. My husband and I couldn't decide if we wanted the krispy chicken sandwich or the French Dip, so we got both and shared them. The sandwiches are served with potato wedges. Our food came quickly and everything looked yummy. I started with the Krispy Chicken, which had tomato, lettuce and mayonnaise on a brioche bun. The chicken was tasty, the Mayo had a great flavor and the bun was fresh. The potato wedges were like puffy French fries. I thoroughly enjoyed the sandwich and the potatoes. I then had to try the French Dip. It was served with a small bowl of au jus, which unfortunately the person that brought our food had spilled at least half on the plate. The beef was tender and the grilled baguette was fresh. I liked the chicken sandwich better because I felt the French dip had too much bread for the amount of prime rib. We have been having great service lately, up until it's time to get our check, and this place was exactly the same. So weird. She finally did come back and apologized for the delay. I heard many great things about Ivy just recently so I knew I needed to pay them a visit. Located just outside the Ocala Town Square, this charming establishment is true to its' nature with even the servers dressed as if it were the 1920's. This is definitely a place to visit which is do different from the national chain restaurants I've been going to in Ocala. The front hosts were very accommodating trying to seat our party 5 on a Saturday night despite having a bridal party on hand; we waited about 15 minutes before being seated. The menu is quite small but covers everything for anyone; with a nice selection of fresh cut steaks, seafood and poultry, I opted for seafood since I had beef the night before. 4/5 Fried Green Tomatoes $10.00 were 6 slices of tomatoes lightly battered and deep fried served with spicy mayo sauce. They were really good. 4/5 Cheese Fritters $8.00 were 6 balls of melted cheese that came in super hot and cheese oozing as soon as you broke the batter. It was a strong cheddar cheese so if you're not into something this strong, best that you skip it. 3/5 Seafood Platter $24.00 was what I ordered which was a combo of fried cod, fried scallops served with a dinner roll, mac n cheese, corn bread and side salad. I found this dish to be overpriced especially being the scallops were size 80/120 which is super small PLUS the breading on the scallops was already falling apart as you can see from the photo. I didn't thoroughly enjoy this dish unfortunately and would not order it again. 5/5 Pecan Salmon $24.00 was really good according to the one who ordered it; I was eyeing this choice and knew I should have gone with it but oh well. 5/5 White Chocolate Creme Brûlée $7.00 was a great choice; it was enjoyed by the whole table. 3/5 Mocca Creme Brûlée $7.00 was recommended by the server and not as enjoyed as the white chocolate one; the candied sugar topping was almost non existent and the creme itself was lumpy and not as smooth as I expected. 5/5 Our server was very good...efficient and sweet, in fact, the whole staff was terrific and I look forward to returning and trying something different. read more

OK, this is gonna be a short review because everything about this place is exceptional. The ambience, service, quality and portions of food are all on a level all by themselves. The food is a bit pricey but the quality is top shelf and they definitely do not skimp on portions...i was completely stuffed, and wishing i had a backup stomach to eat more as it was that delicious. So ivy is not your typical 5 star restaurant.... they are beyond that. The decor inside is absolutely beautiful and yet very simple at the same time. We sat in the back room where they had couches on each side of table that were extremely comfortable. They had large pictures of old ocala on the walls and other decorations that were very impressive. I had the the filet with potato wedges, green beans, corn bread and garlic knot. The portion was pretty huge and was so naturally delicious i didn't need any condiments or sauces for anything. I'm a petty big A1 steak sauce fan but kudos to the chef cause that filter needed nothing more. I've eaten at some of the best steak houses around Ocala and this was by far the best. We had a party of four and the other couple in our party has had lunch there in the past and raved about the burgers and chicken sandwiches. The waitress also mentioned they are expanding their menu and still keeping all the old favorites! I can't wait to go back and try something different. If you have a special occasion or just want a 5 plus star dining experience do yourself a favor and check out icy on the square. Interesting menu marred by a slow kitchen that can't get 6 meals to a table at the same time, all with the same level of heat. Good food, but nothing special. Table clearing in between courses is optional. Small mostly California wine list that was upsold. Stocky wine glasses that one could bowl with and not get a spare, with 2 balls. Perhaps someone from Des Moines would be impressed. I doubt it. Ivy won't kill anyone, but unlikely that you'll be back. read more

I had dinner there last night. I have one complaint and I'll get to that first. There was one thing that made our night just shy of perfect. TURN. ON. THE. LIGHTS!! I noticed a lot of people using the flashlight on their phones to see the menu! I did not want to give 4 stars because of the lighting because I didn't want to take away from how good the food was. And it wasn't even dark out yet! And I was told that when it is dark out, they don't light up the rooms. I should mention there is another room that had better lighting than the rest of the place. So it can be done! As far as the food, it was excellent! Got the southern fried mozzarella and sauce for an app, and crab cakes for me and my husband got the shrimp creole. We both loved it!! Prices were fair. I highly recommend this place, but if you want light, try to get there an hour before sunset. So at least you have that. read more

Hhhmm this is a mixed review. The new location and decor is 5 star to say the least. Possibly one of the nicest decorated restaurants in the entire area reminiscent of being in a large stylish city. You can also eat outdoors in one of the few Ocala restaurants that has sun hitting it perfectly. Odd most Floridians choose indoor dining but whatever, I had the sunny patio to myself. Now where the so so review comes in is merely bringing along their old menu from the old location in the Victorian. It was bareable enough over there as you felt as if you were taking a trip somewhere fun in the funky old house, but in this new location, forget it. The ambience cries out for modern, inventive, interesting choices - not the same old / same old. Predominant meat based dining is so old fashioned even with the older crowd getting hip to organic, vegan and gluten free. I do hope the menu will morph into something more vibrant and interesting to match the chic decor. Plus, downtown Ocala is getting more stylish, in general, too. Until then , I'll stick with wine for my meal when I'm in town as this is definitely not a destination dining locale. read more

I ordered the shrimp and grits which came with a small salad, cornbread and a yeast roll. All of the food was well seasoned and delicious. We will be back. The fried green tomatoes were first for an appetizer. While the seasoning was good, you could taste the grease they fried them in. After a few minutes they went soggy, which was a bit unfortunate. The filet was recommended, as I was told the ribeye was on the fatty side. The filet was really tasty and perfectly cooked. The vegetable medley was delish - those carrots were fantastic! The cornbread was super southern and on the sweet side. I liked it for my dessert! The salmon is not farm raised and it was confirmed from the wild, prepared in the back fresh. Nice! The crab cakes were served over a fried green tomato, which sounded awesome in theory, but the tomato ended up getting soggy. We had Dillion as our server and he was knowledgeable and friendly. I ordered the chicken piccata and my boyfriend had the ribeye - both were very delicious. Including the cocktails, the Dillinger and the Rum Tumbler. The only thing I would change is my boyfriend had to use his light to read the menu. Other than that, we very much enjoyed the ambiance. We were in Ocala for the day and stopped in for lunch at Ivy on the Square in historic downtown Ocala. We were welcomed into the restaurant by their friendly hostile. The restaurant had nostalgic decor from the early 1900's. The lunch menu had a great variety of food with very reasonable prices. We LOVE the Ivy House in Williston. It's cozy, comforting and the people are amazing. It feels like going to your dear friend's house for dinner. However, when we arrived on Friday 11/3/23, it was closed with a sign advising that there had been a fire and they were making repairs. We thought about it a minute and decided to try the other restaurant in Ocala. We drove 35 minutes and arrived at 3:45 p.m. We had called ahead and were advised that lunch ran until 4:00 p.m. and dinner started thereafter. The Ocala location is like a bad parallel universe or the Upside Down. First, free parking is not available and the paid lots require a smart phone to use the QR code to pay a minimum $5.50 to park. This was OK since I was along but my folks wouldn't have been able to navigate such nonsense. Second, the people were not friendly, in fact the majority of employees were snarky 20 something's wearing stupid outfits. They acted very, and I mean very, put out that we wanted to order from the lunch menu (which, for the record, is only $2 less in price from the dinner on entrees). Third, and most important, while they have a very similar menu and use all the same ingredients, the food did not taste as good as Williston. Everything we ordered was at best, tepid (much like the staff) in temperature. The yeast rolls were smaller and more dense. The portion of cornbread was smaller. We asked for an extra sauce for the fried green tomatoes as I was a bit under the weather and did not want to risk sharing with my dining companions. I was specific in my request, however, 10 minutes later (after we finished the appetizer), they brought out another entire order and then did not take it off the bill until requested. To be clear, they did not leave the second order. The server did not bring our salads and, when questioned (after the entree was received), acted annoyed and asked if we really wanted them. We came to celebrate my mother's 76th birthday. Luckily she's a good sport and just brushed the whole disappointing experience off. I didn't. We will not return and can only hope that the Williston location reopens soon. Perhaps, this very different approach works with the hip crowd coming to the art walk, etc., but given the relatively empty restaurant from 4 - 5:30 p.m., it doesn't seem to be the case. read more

We've been to Ivy a few times now and the food is always wonderful. The decor inside is a bit over the time but it's still very nice. Seating outside is fun for people watching as it's a pretty bustling section of downtown. We have never had a bad meal so I'd recommend anything. The only pitfall has been service. The first few times it was just a bit slow and the servers weren't very seasoned but it was fine. Our most recent visit was pretty bad. Our server never returned to the table after delivering the food. We were never checked on again or asked if everything was okay. My husband asked for hot sauce but our server never returned. Water stayed empty and we cleaned our own table and even had to go back to the front to try to get a check and pay. I hope it was a one time thing because it's a great spot! read more

No one even looked up at us. About the time my husband and I were about to leave because we felt ignored we were finally greeted. Restroom had napkins to dry your hands instead of paper towels. After getting all the napkin remnants off my hands I made my way back to the table. Decor is nice but seats are stained because they are fabric, not something wipeable. We waited 27 minutes to get our food during which a table seated after us and who ordered 12 minutes after us got their food. We were served 4 minutes after they were. Drink refills were offered only after we were done eating. Again food was good. If you don't mind the other stuff this place is for you. read more

This huge beautiful restaurant has an interesting lunch menu but to be honest it didn't live up to my expectation for quality southern food. The food came too quickly and just wasn't hot enough. The chicken was dry. The Mac and cheese tepid as was the cornbread. Collard greens were tasty but there wasn't enough of them! My love had some work in Ocala this weekend so we drove up for that and once the shoot wrapped we wanted to check out some local fare. We asked the folks we were working with and they recommended Ivy on the Square. I had done my Yelp scouting ahead of time and it was at the top of my list but it was nice for the local confirmation as well. Being that it was a Saturday afternoon I was afraid we may have a hard time getting in but it was a past brunch/lunch rush so we lucked out. Our wait was only a few minutes and it helped that we had a party of two. We were seated in the bar side of the restaurant in some comfy chairs and cute little bistro (but bigger) table. We were hungry so ordered the pimento cheese fritters as an appetizer. It was a toss up between those or the fried green tomatoes but since I make some killer FGT at home we opted for something different. I order the Shrimp Po'Boy and my love got the Krispy Chicken Sandwich. The fritters came out fairly quickly and wow! were they a surprise hit! Melty goodness and a light crunchy batter! What's not to love? The peach habanero dipping sauce complimented it really nicely. When our main courses arrived we were very pleased with our choices. The chicken sandwich was juicy and full of flavor and the Brioche Bun was so soft and fresh. My Po'Boy did win the eaters choice award that day though. I may be banned from NOLA for saying this but this was a million times better than the one I had at Parkway. For starters the bread is fresh and soft. (I have mentioned this twice now so you know I hate a hard sandwich) The ingredients all were so fresh and delicious. The shrimp were lightly battered and cooked perfectly-no chewy shrimp! The sauce on the sandwich the glue that sealed the deal for me! MMMM MMM! That being said...our sandwiches took...awhile. Service was ok. Nothing outstanding, nothing terrible. I'm still giving 5 stars because the food is at least 6 haha. My Raspberry lemonade was so satisfying on another too hot for April Saturday. The prices are appropriate and the vibe is nice and cool. It definitely has a nice decor, but the chicken was extremely dry. Super dry chicken even with salt I just couldn't eat it. The macaroni and cheese taste gritty. The carrots and green beans were very good though. The service, well let's just say there wasn't. Had to ask for silverware, had to ask for a knife actually two knives. Who thinks of that? 10/10 House salad with Italian dressing (not pictured is the Cesar salad) topped with Chinese fried noodles which was interesting for both salads but truthfully, skip and get a soup better! I heard the Onion soup was good but salad was just okay. My friend has the pecan salmon with hazelnut butter sauce! I did try some and the salmon was cooked perfectly, it was so delectable and fresh. The crusted salmon sat on quinoa and greens. Try this dish! Next up we have my main course, the Seafood Scampi! A great balance of gentle tastes mixed with perfectly cooked seafood! Stopped here for lunch on a weekend. Service was very slow and it took forever to get our food. The food was okay, but mediocre. We tried the fried mozzarella appetizer which was basically a grilled cheese, the French dip which was very dry, and a fried chicken sandwich that didn't have much flavor. My parents and I recently enjoyed an early dinner at Ivy on the Square. The aesthetics of this restaurant are chique, rustic glam and I love the addition of comfy living room type furniture in the dining space. Though the chairs we sat in could have used a couple of pillows, I realize that gets risky in an eatery. The menus are cool looking but slightly difficult to read, especially as they kept the space quite dark in the dining room. A smartphone flashlight comes in handy here! Our waiter was attentive and we noted that he was really busy- his section seemed large and included a table of 16+. Ivy gets a bit loud due to the high ceilings and a lack sound absorbent materials. I love that many of the salads and entrees come with lots of bonus goodies here. Most include a yeast roll, a slice of cornbread, and your choice of a side. I ordered a salad with the classic Ivy House Raspberry vinaigrette. I love anything raspberry here as they make their own sweet raspberry sauce- it's great in the lemonade too!! I love the yeast roll that accompanied my salad, though the cornbread was slightly dry for my taste. The decor of Ivy is overall classy, so I really don't understand why they use plastic cups for dressings and pre packaged butter slices. Tacky in an otherwise nicely posh eatery. The side of Mac and cheese is really great and I love when Mac is served with penné noodles. The sauce is creamy and decadent. My parents both ordered the pecan encrusted salmon and liked it a lot! My mom raved about the addition of the sweet sauce and it was cooked perfectly, served along with crunchy quinoa. Our drinks were great all night- I love the small round "Sonic style" ice cubes, and delicious handcrafted cocktails here. I ended with the peanut butter pie which was amazing. This has jumped right up to be one of my favorite desserts. The pie was fluffy yet delectably sweet and the chocolate sauce was perfect...not your average Hershey's syrup. I highly recommend ordering dessert or chocolate martinis here. My mom loved her vanilla baileys drink. We will definitely be returning to Ivy on the Square for another great dinner in the near future. read more

This is the second time I've visited this establishment. First time was in 2018. They've renovated since then and it has a nice atmosphere with very attentive staff. The menu items are pricey but most of the items we ordered were pretty tasty. I wasn't impressed with the scampi over linguine I ordered. The garlic lemon sauce didn't quite satisfy me. I've had this type of dish over the years in establishments throughout the country and also make this dish myself. I thought it would be a safe dish for taste. As stated earlier, I wasn't impressed. However, my wife had the southern shrimp creole served over cheesy grits. Being from the northeast I've never grew to like grits but I was pleasantly surprised when she shared a sample. We also had the pimento cheese balls and fried green tomatoes. They were delicious also. I personally wasn't impressed with the scampi I had because of the unimpressive slightly overcooked shrimp and the meager (2-3) scallops. Should I go here again id probably pick another item as an entree. As I've stated, it's pricey and overall it was enjoyable. Yes, I would recommend Ivy for the service and atmosphere. read more

We had a very long wait for a Saturday night (not a negative for my review - call ahead!), but had no issues waiting it out as they a fabulous jazz/soulful keyboard artist playing soothing us while our tummies rumbled. The main reason for the 4 stars was the food was okay. We ordered a salad with salmon and to chicken dinners. The sides were good, the meat was tender, but it wasn't overall full of flavor. The salmon was small, but they quickly corrected it and anything we needed they were quick to get it to us. The people were great and the environment was so enjoyable. We ordered: tomato caprese appetizer, baked Krispy chicken, fried Florida lobster tail and sweet tea. Everything came out perfect. The appetizer was very fresh - the tomatoes and the cheese. I could have made a meal out of that alone. The baked chicken came with several size items which were perfectly seasoned and just enough to make you want to come back for more.
