My favorite place in Ocala. Cool interior, nice wait staff, relaxing atmosphere and TERRIFIC food. Save room for dessert or take it home. Been here a number of times, but I don't recall what I've had every time & I've not taken pictures every time. Their dessert menu is off the hook. I've order the peanut butter pie repeatedly and it's the best I've had in 50 years. Orders I do recall: * Tomato soup: the absolute best and a crave item * Peanut butter pie, has a layer of dark chocolate and the pb part has a nice stronger flavor than many. * Key Lime pie - best I've had since moving to Florida! Only bad thing is now do I order this or the pb pie - oh what a challenge & still so many more of their desserts to try * Meatloaf plate - very good. I'd have it again. * Fish fry - I didn't have it, but a friend did and said it was terrific! She shared a delicious hushpuppy with me. * Hawaiian Tuna Melt - has grilled pineapple on it and sort of a wild addition, but totally works & delicious * Chicken wrap with salad and soup, For salad, I picked the pasta salad - it's good, but could use a bit of red wine vinegar or more of it for my tastes, but I like it. We are from The Villages and hadn't been here for a while. But it's refreshing to know that Depot is still serving excellent food. I had the BBQ pork with potato salad and a bowl of Lobster bisque. My wife had the lasagne which I considered a large portion since it was for lunch. But first she had a garden salad. All appropriate lunch menu fair. We still enjoy the eclectic atmosphere and I wonder who does the dusting. As before we carried home two desserts because we are too full to eat them right after the meal. I decided to spend my Saturday showing Ocala a little love -- and I'm so glad I did, because I stumbled on Depot on Magnolia and it completely blew me away. Tucked inside part of a historic train depot, this place leans all the way in on its railway roots. The decor is packed with railroad memorabilia, hand-painted murals, and even the light fixtures feel themed. And yes -- there's an actual miniature train that circles overhead while you eat. It's quirky in the best way. I ordered one of my go-to comfort picks: a mushroom and Swiss burger. Not only was it cooked to perfection, but it came topped with quarter-cut mushrooms (not the usual thin slices!) and a side of tiny watermelon wedges -- which was such a fun touch. The vibe, the food, the unexpected attention to detail... Depot on Magnolia totally exceeded my expectations. This is a cute location with interesting and unique decor. Our server wasn't friendly & seemed short with us only. The menu is kind of all over the place--the specials are on a photocopied handwritten list in a plastic sleeve. The cheese burger was really big & cooked well--flattop crispy edges and perfectly medium. The lobster wrap was chopped and didn't taste like lobster & side of pasta salad shells were creamy and just ok. They had a long list of desserts that sounded good but we didn't have a sweet tooth. We had a large group for a Birthday celebration. The food was wonderful! The cream of Jalapeno wasn't too spicy - just a hint of a kick but served HOT, the way soup should be! Kudos for that! The fish on my sandwich was waaaay bigger than the bun and another friend's meatloaf portion took up half the plate! Never seen a serving that size ever! Desserts were yummy and portions generous. Adam served us flawlessly, and believe me - that was a task. I love the train running on a track above us. We had an added bonus of a train going past while we dined. So cool! We've seen a lot of mentions about Depot on Magnolia in Ocala, so we decided to hit O-town a little early on Saturday night and give it a try. What a cool little place - it's not huge. Train themed (and yes, a train rolled by as we were eating) and quirky, our server, was bubbly and energetic. We ordered the lobster flatbread appetizer and it was SO good! Where to begin? The coconut shrimp was delicious and the hush puppies passed the snobbish test. The Key Lime BBQ Chicken sandwich was tasty with the Lime sauce. And the Conductor Burger? Lordy that was a lot of meat! 1 pound burger with pulled pork, cheese, tomato, lettuce! Don't order that on a date - you're leaving with some on your shirt! Definitely ask for extra napkins. An excellent taste for everything we ordered, except the coleslaw. Vinegar based. Meh. Fries were ever so slightly over cooked, but still good. All in all the dining area was very cute and if your into trains the aesthetic was awesome! Honestly the service was eh, I made the mistake of ordering the lobster wrap which didn't taste like lobster at all, opened up the wrap and it was imitation crab unfortunately. I'm a New England girl so Lobster Salad is a summer staple for me and I could tell right away it wasn't lobster. Our server never came to check on us or ask if our food came out okay just seemed not to care much about our experience. On the plus side my husband ordered the chicken pot pie and it was good. We were hoping to finish off the meal with a homemade pineapple upside down cake but they were all out so we tried the coconut layer cake and cannoli cheesecake and they were pretty good. Restaurant had only one other table full when we first arrived. We ordered Buffalo chicken salad and truffle fries. I ordered the Veggie flat bread which was very tasty. Bottled domestic beer and wine available. One glass of wine was $10. Food moderately priced. Few veggie options are available but beyond burger can be substituted for a $2 up charge. Restaurant got very busy quickly and our server (an older gentleman) forgot about us so I had to acquire my own to-go box. He also forgot the second beer my husband ordered but brought it to him when we were given the check. At least he comped the beer. Veteran's discounts are offered. Awesome, 13 of us went, with reservations, for lunch, with some minor glitches due to size and full restaurant, we were all pleasantly pleased! I had their lunch combo, soup and 1/2 wrap, on that day soup was lobster bisque, it was like in a white tablecloth restaurant without the side shot of sherry. Delicious!, The 1/2 chicken salad wrap I choose was fresh, moist and bigger than many wraps I've had, and it had a side of a nice pasta salad, which definitely was not expected. Around me I saw coconut shrimp, quiche, hot dog, several various burgers and everyone was just loving the food! Adorable, train themed, tables and booths, and as it is in the Ocala depot, a long freight train went right by and graced us with nostalgia! We went to the Depot with 4 friends before we went to a show at the Reilly Arts Center. The ambiance was awesome, it was set up with all kinds of things like a train station. They had an electric train track that was set up by the ceiling. The train went all around the restaurant all night. It was really cool to watch it pass by while we were eating. The food was very good. Everyone at my table enjoyed what they ordered. The service was excellent, our server knew we were headed to a show, so she made sure that we had enough time to eat and the pay the check. We would all go there again. I loved everything about this place! The building/interior is super cool and kitschy. Since I'm from out of town, I found this place on Yelp. The service was another highlight. Roseanne was our server but she seemed more like a family friend we were visiting for lunch. She was attentive, kind and knowledgeable. She even fussed over our 3 yr old grandson we had with us. The food was OUTSTANDING!! The grandson had the kids hot dog (it was a footlong) and fries. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich with German potato salad special. There was so much meat on the toasted bun that it overflowed onto the plate! I had to try the split pea soup. I love it and ordered every time it's offered. A. It was piping hot(as soup should be) B. It was incredible!! I also ordered the mushroom Swiss burger with added sautéed onion. I've eaten my share of burgers in my time. This one ranks at the top! It was flavorful, juicy and cooked to perfection. Tons of mushrooms and onions and ooey gooey Swiss cheese made it even better!
