I was brought on as a stylist during a 90-day trial and only worked three days before being let go. I was not given any reason for termination other than that I 'didn't fit in with the culture or environment.' During the short time I was there, I wasn't taught anything or given the opportunity to showcase my skills -- I mostly just observed. From my perspective, the salon culture did not encourage individuality or creativity, and I got the impression that my prior experience and ambition may have been seen as a threat rather than an asset. While this may work well for some, I personally value fresh ideas and an open-minded approach, and I did not find the environment supportive of that. read more

I've been looking for a trustworthy hair stylist in the area and I think I found my place! I had a haircut appointment with Anaydia and it was great. I made an appointment online and the website was easy to navigate - it does make you pay at the time you make the reservation, which I didn't mind. Depending on the stylist, women's haircut costs between $50-$70. I arrived at the time of my appointment, was greeted by the friendly front desk staff then Anaydia led me to her chair. The salon is minimally decorated, clean and relaxing. She asked me how I wanted my hair done, gave me a nice scalp/shoulder massage, washed my hair with some great Aveda products, and the haircut was quick! I don't like my hair super styled so she gave me a nice little blowout - I was in and out of the salon in less than an hour which was great (I hate sitting at hair salons for long periods of time!!) Will definitely be coming back for my next haircut or any other hair styling needs in the future. read more

Not what expected for $57 haircut. The hairstylist I got was super sweet and gave a super great hair wash. But she dropped the curling iron on me and then said "oh it's off" even tho she was curling my hair 1 min ago. Then I told her it was fine. It def hurt but there was no mark and she dismissed it. Then I noticed it started getting bad but she didn't seem worried and didn't apologize. She asked if it was okay, I said yeah it's fine. I didn't have time to make it a whole deal and it seemed like she didn't fine it surprising or a big deal. I had graduation so I rushed out. When I got in the car and it was bad. My hair curls barely lasted an hour. It just wasn't worth it. And it would've been nice for her to apologize or something. Not dismissed. UPDATE: Manager called me and gave me a refund. I love that Ivy offers late appointments.. It is super convenient during the work week! I have now had three haircuts with Kelsey, and I have been very pleased each time. Upon arrival you receive a complimentary aromatherapy scalp massage that is AMAZING. I get my hair washed, cut, dried, and styled which costs around $45. Kelsey always does a great job of providing cuts that match my requests and she offers helpful advice for styling at home. She is super personable and remembers me from visit to visit. She is not pushy on products like some stylists at Aveda salons. For the quality service, I think the price is well worth it. Called to schedule a same-day appointment as a first time customer, staff was accommodating and pleasant. The stylist spent 15 minutes with me before my cut to review exactly what I wanted ( I had pictures) while giving me the complimentary aromatherapy scalp massage. She was knowledgeable about the product line and helped me select what would work best on my fine, wavy hair. Cut was fantastic, everyone was relaxed and professional...down to selecting a lip gloss for a touch up. I was so impressed I sent my guy the next week for a cut and he also received a fantastic cut and stellar service. We each received...in true Southern fashion...a thank you card from our stylist. I was referred to Alex at IVY from a friend and I am so glad I did it! They were able to get me in within 3 days and it was great. Honestly it wasn't even that expensive to be a downtown location. I paid $55 before tip and had tea, an aromatherapy head massage, shampoo, hot towel, cut, style (and instruction on the style) and lip gloss choice. Alex recommended great products but wasn't pushy at all. She did EXACTLY what I was looking for and fixed a mess up another salon had made. I usually skimp on my haircuts because I don't usually fix my hair unless I am going out but Alex made me feel like a million bucks and makes me want to take better care of it!!! When I moved here I found it nearly impossible to find anyone who actually knew what they were doing.Then, I went to Ivy Salon, not only was I impressed with the friendly service and warm environment, but I was set up with a great stylist too! I was set up with one of the younger stylists- Celeste and wasn't sure what to expect. No one ever gets my hair right..but Celeste did an OUTSTANDING job! I go back to her for ALL of my needs now. I have curly hair. When I got there I made it very clear toJessica that I just wanted a trim and that I didn't even want it to look like I got a hair cut. First off she brushed my hair, which you do not do with curly hair. Then she proceeded to cut my hair dry while it is this frizzy lion's main. Then she cuts my two shorter pieces that frame my face. My hair came our looking blunt and more damaged then when I went in. I do not think I have ever been more disappointed in a hair cut. Would not recommend this place. read more

Growing out my short hair and after recently moving here from Los Angeles I was in need of finding a quality salon to help with that. I had used Aveda for years and was always happy with their results, until now. Today was my second time at Ivy seeing the same stylist (I won't throw her under the bus on here) and the first time she was great! Very friendly and nice. Today she in a hurry it seemed and although nice, she butchered me and had difficulty in understanding what I was asking for, even with pictures and hand explanations. Things I had asked for, like thinning out my thick hair with sheers from the underside, we're not done and instead I was given one row of layers... Something she specifically asked if I wanted and I said no. Long story short, I now have very uneven hair, longer and heavier on one side in the back, layers I didn't want which have given a mushroom shape to my hair and a huge chunk missing from one side only. Extreme disappointment in that it takes forever to grow out hair from a pixie cut to where I was currently at and now I'll have to pay more and cut more with someone else to fix this and now I'm set back months again. read more

I'm a 30 year old male who was in desperate need of a haircut after relocating to the area for work. While exploring the downtown area, I noticed Ivy salon. I'm pretty particular about my hair and the place looked really nice, so I made an appointment. Unfortunately, I wasn't very satisfied. As I mentioned, I'm a little vain about my hair, and at a pricey $30 for a simple men's cut, I expected to come out looking really stylish and slick. Don't get me wrong, my hair looked fine, no disaster's happened. But I can get a 'fine' haircut at the barber shop for 10 bones. The scalp massage was enjoyable, but I sort of wish they'd have skipped the whole deep breath, aromatherapy routine. It made me feel quite out of place, truthfully. I appreciate their attempt at excellent service, and can't say anything definitively bad about the place, but I won't be returning as I don't consider it a good value for the money. read more

Recently I had a haircut from Celeste. I was disappointed. I'm a big fan of Aveda salons but did not have a good experience. She was running behind schedule, had someone else give me a head and shoulder rub (which was nice), and finally got me in the chair. She was very distracted with her conversation, bordering on being rude. After a very rough hair wash with no towel to cushion my neck, she spent approximately 15 minutes cutting and drying my hair. I thought maybe she was just a very good stylist who was super fast. Nope. When I got home I had to cut half an inch off of one side to make it even with the rest. I don't think she even layered my hair at all because my curls refuse to curl just like when my hair is in need of a cut. I might try the salon again but really hate to put myself in that kind of awkward position. I just read another review about a "chunk" of hair missing...that's exactly what happened to me too. I am careful on who I let do my hair, but when I found Alex at Ivy, she quickly became my only go to for hair care. You can tell by how she treats all of her customers that she is the sweetest person you have ever met. She listens to the 1000s of suggestions I have (I'm so indecisive) and she always gives me her professional opinion. Most people will just throw ideas at you until you just "choose one", but alex takes her time explaining to me why this style would work or why the other one will also work. You can definitely tell that she has been trained well and is really knowledgeable about her profession. I highly recommend Alex to anyone !! read more

Ridiculously overpriced! Cookie cutter salon in a strip mall beside a cupcake shop and a waxing salon and they charge $250 for hi lites only! No cut!!! And after spending $225 for color they charged me $25 to blow-dry my hair! Really??? She offered to send me out with wet hair! Seriously... how can you tell if the color looks good if it's not dried? AND she messed up my color and had to put a toner on it AND CHARGED me $45 for that! I asked how much it would be when we stared and was told $125 for everything!!! If I had gotten it cut it would have been $300. BEWARE! They charge you for everything even if it's their mistake! The owner is a crook! What a true ripoff! I feel ripped off! read more

This is by far the most professional and talented bunch of people I've ever had the privilege of working with. They are all very kind and make you feel right at home. I had the pleasure of working with three artists there and finally found my home with Kelsey. She's very creative and knows exactly what my hair needs. She's a true artist and listens to what I want. I've been going here for over five years now and have never been dissatisfied. I'm in my late forties and they've given me conservative cuts to my latest fun pixie. They even made my hair beautiful for my wedding and it stayed perfect all day, through our Southern August humidity. The girls up front are super friendly and helpful as well. They really make me feel like part of their family. They take their time with you and everyone is very knowledgeable about the products. Oh the products! They are marvelous. The aromatherapy is heavenly but the products actually do wonders for your hair, scalp, and skin. My daughter also has been going here for years and she has never been disappointed either. While the stylists are good, they never book enough time for your stylist to complete the process and they will cancel on you without notice and not provide a solution for rescheduling. I was super excited for a Aveda salon experience as I have always had great results and the staff is usually very well trained-but not at this downtown location. I was greeted immediately and checked in, and then left to sit it the very unwelcoming sitting area without so much as an offer for a water or a tea. My stylist acted liked I was doing her a favor by being there and was so aloof I wondered if she really worked there or was just visiting. As I was describing what I wanted, she was picking at her nails and responded, "yeah, okay that looks fine." She told me to follow her over to the bank of chairs where color is mixed and only after another stylist offered her client something to drink, she asked me if I wanted something. She proceeded to put my color on and left me to rot without so much as a magazine :( When I got up to get my own magazine, another stylist put someone in my chair and I had to embarrassingly tell them I was sitting there. The stylist and her client gave me a dirty look and moved. When my stylist finally reappeared, she proceeded to give me one of the worst haircuts I have ever had. I had perfect long bangs, and she hacked at them until I had the equivalent of a mullet. Even the next salon I went to was shocked at how bad my bangs were, and asked if I trimmed them myself!! The kicker was I got all this for the bargain price of $150 which I don't mind paying at all, but for a quality cut and color and a true Aveda salon experience. Avoid this location until they close for some serious Aveda customer service training and send the stylist that I had back to cosmetology school for a cut refresher. read more
