We have eaten here many times. Today was no different, delicious food and great service. The wife had enchilada suiza, I had the ixtapa burrito and my daughter had the "no name" aka taquitos. All were delicious and no one had any complaints. My wife loves the perfect margaritas and I love the Dos Equis on tap. They have slot machines in the bar and they usually pay well. Always been curious and stopped on our way back into the valley from the coast. It was on a Sunday early afternoon - not too busy. We were welcomed and seated. Another yummy place to visit in Clatskanie! I'm so glad we decided to try Ixtapa because the food was so delicious and the staff were so welcoming and friendly! They started us off with their chips and salsa and ordered the Queso Fundido as an appetizer. It was so good! I had the Marinated Chicken Salad and my husband got the Shrimp Fajitas. This place is so good. I got the Carne Asada Tacos and they were packed full of meat and yummy goodness. We got there at 8:55 ish and they closed at 9:30, but they didn't rush us and the service was spot on. Super nice waiter!!! My husband got a combination plate with Chile Relleno and a couple other things and he loved it. The salsa is good with a bit of spice but not too much. Chips were hot and not greasy at all. We were seated right away with a smile, there are lots of food options and the food came out quickly and hot! Everything was delicious. I ordered a taco salad with ground beef. The beef was very flavorful! Also ordered (to go) the chicken quesadilla, which my daughter loved (but it did not come with beans and rice), and the chicken enchilada suiza (with beans and rice) which was super good reheated! What a cool place! I stopped here on a Friday night heading out of town for the weekend. The decor is cheery and open. Each wall is painted a different color and the ceiling is open and painted black. I love the tropical birds carved in the back of the benches. Service was extremely fast and friendly. I couldn't believe they could prepare meals so quickly with such high quality. This was probably the best salsa I've ever had, with nice chunks of green onion, tomato and cilantro. It was thick and very flavorful. I wish I could reproduce it! I ordered the steak & chicken fajitas for $13.25 and my companion ordered the deep fried burrito for $8.99. The fajitas were tasty, just not the style I really like from Oklahoma/Texas. The meat was seasoned with a red chili sauce and cooked well. It was pre-sliced before cooking in tiny strips. It came with sour cream, pico, and fantastic, freshly made guacamole. My companion's burrito was huge and perfectly crispy. We both fell in love with the refried beans, full of flavor with the soft texture only achieved with lotsa lard. With two drinks the total was $26.22. I would definitely go again when I pass through town! read more

We have been to Ixtapa about half a dozen times and have yet to have anything but excellent service. Excellent gringo style Mexican food. Entrees are huge... I usually finish my daughter and wife's plates and I always end up with a to-go box (that typically gets left on the table). Let's face it....our options for Mexican food in Astoria and beyond are quite limited and leave a lot to be desired. Lately, places that once were okay, have now degenerated into tired, bland, pits of despair and apathy. It is a sad commentary that we must drive about 30 miles to get decent food at a great price. I was hungry for really good Mexican food and wanted something different. We have tried all of the local offerings and just nothing sounded good. I figured what the hell, and grabbed my lovely lass and hot the road to the metropolis of Clatskanie. It is a pretty drive, Astoria looks better in the rear-view sometimes, it was raining, I was hungry and desperate, and desperate times call for desperate measures...hence our journey. Arrived at about 3PM to an empty restaurant lot. Discovered a great little store next door (Discounts and Deals -- see review), did some shopping for shiny things we didn't need and worked up an already voracious appetite. Awesome menu with so many options your head will spin. Full bar with decent drink prices as well. Great food prices!!! Got my old standby of two enchiladas and a taco, rice & beans to test the waters. It was a religious experience. Meat (shredded beef) was well seasoned, tender, and amazing. Rice was easily the best I have ad since Southern California. Beans were creamy, flavourful, and spank me and put me to bed so damn good. Chips & Salsa-- plentiful, refilled without asking, flavourful, and perfect....not too spicy...not bland at all. My love's tamale combo was pure perfection as well. Fresh iced tea that never went dry. Service was above and beyond. I loathe those damn little sugar packets. I like some tea with my sugar, so we ask for the pour sugar to save sugar packet litter and annoyance. Ixtapa didn't have any of them (not a big deal), but without asking the server brought out a bowl of sugar from the kitchen and a spoon. He was on top of everything. We spent quite a bit of time there just relaxing, having mouth-gasms over our food, and enjoying the conversation of the server, as well as the chef. This is our new favourite place. We will be regulars from now on. A second couple came in and had a similar first experience like we did. As it got closer to 5PM, more folks starting coming in, so this place for being in the middle of nowhere in some ways, shows it has staying power. Their other location is in Scapoose. I do not give 5 stars very often, and these were well earned. Thank you Ixtapa, you have restored my faith and can let me use "good" and "Mexican food" in the same sentence again when talking about the coast. Very open & clean facility, with ample seating. I love this place... A great halfway point stop-off... The salsa is awesome, as it tastes homemade- less salty, but with a slight kick! They also have a large happy hour menu (2-5, M-F) in the bar. The owner and his wife are unbelievably humble and will bend over backwards to make sure your order comes out exactly as you want, even when it's not on the menu... This was our first visit to Ixtapa. We were immediately pleased with the delicious aroma in the air and told to choose our seats. Our waiter was friendly and welcomed us asking us where we were from. We were given wonderful chips and the most delicious salsa! The menu was extensive with many lunch combinations reasonably priced. I settled for the chili relleno and and shredded beef enchilada which included beans and rice. HEAVEN! SO DELICIOUS! We highly recommend this restaurant. Limited options in this town for food especially when it's later...place closed at 9:30, we arrived at 9:07 server said "come in it's fine" we said "we will just order a quick To Go and have a drink while we wait" he was kind and our drinks were perfect. To Go was ready, he offered us another drink, cause a table of 4 just showed up. We said "ok, thanks!" As we are chatting quietly finishing our drinks...a gentleman came into the bar, flicked the lights on and off 10x and said "vámonos!!!!" I said "ok, sorry he offered us this drink" he again flicked the lights and now kept them off...and said "vámonos!" Again! He did the same thing to the table of 4 eating...He was beyond rude, we had all ready paid and left a gracious tip cause our server was very kind...but that guy was so rude. That's how he treats paying customers...if you wanted to close, light should be off. Open sign was on! read more
