Home grown comfort food. I'm not often in the area but definitely will stop in around breakfast time! Their corn beef hash is the best. Reminds me of my mother's. I first stop in here years ago because any joint named 49ers is close to my heart. I found that it's named for exit 49 and I was disappointed to see a Seahawks logo displayed inside! I used to be a real fan of this place but I am sad to say that the food has really gone downhill. I don't know where they source their food but it has all the tastes of something you get frozen and pre-prepared at Chef Store. Nothing was fresh and it tasted processed. They still make the best home fries anywhere, but the other food was third rate. I was also disappointed by the price. I also eat regularly at Pancake House which has a similar menu and the food quality is better and the prices are about 15% or more lower. I do want to applaud the servers who are still professionals and some of the best in the business. They do give you the feeling that you are eating at home and they keep those cups of coffee full. read more

This is a great reincarnation of a local favorite. We were here pre-COVID, and had an okay dinner experience. Good food, friendly people and service. Since then there was a fire in the restaurant, and the interior was gutted and remodeled on the existing plan. There were NO recent reviews, and the menu and food pictures are very old. Wanting to support our local business, we stopped on the way back from Portland. My wife had the meatloaf dinner and I had the liver and onions dinner. Both came with salad, vegetable and choice of potato. Both were good. My liver wasn't tough, and the grilled onions were thinly sliced and excellent. My wife's meatloaf is better (had to say it) but she liked her meal. We hope these people succeed, and wish them all the best. read more

Solid 4star experience! Generous portion of tasty crispy hash browns. The 3 slices of bacon were good quality, flavorful, thick pieces and prepared perfectly. My over medium eggs were cooked just how I like them, whites cooked through and the yolks runny enough to mix all in with those tasty potatoes! Service was friendly and attentive. Nice to come back home and visit, also nice to see Peper's 49's restaurant making it through Covid and thriving. I swear they have been there for 40 years! Ordered the chicken fried steak and had forgotten how big and how good it was, huge portion. Everyone is so home town friendly, although nobody seems to move too fast, yet the food get's to the table fast. The restaurant is the original Cracker Barrel but way better! I really enjoyed this local spot. We stopped in for lunch and sat at the counter like old school style. I had a Cesar salad to start that was very good. Fresh and a decent size for a side salad. The dressing was good as well. For my main dish I had the club sandwich. It was delicious. Generous helping of turkey, delicious perfectly cooked bacon on very good bread. Anyway this place was a good find. Bonus, they had the Kraft mac n cheese type mac n cheese which my daughter loves. She'd give this place a five :) read more

A group (7) of us stopped in here for a late lunch. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Tabs were easily and accurately split. There were zero patrons in the restaurant when we arrived. Uncomfortably quiet. Indoors is all family style seating - a lounge is not offered. Tables/seating are booth style which makes large parties a bit award. Food is standard soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers. Beer (bottles only) and wine is offered (qty 2 per person per visit). My wife ordered a bottle of Alaskan Amber beer for $4.50. I ordered a bottle Elysian Immortal IPA for $3.50. My wife and I shared the Gold Miner (deluxe cheeseburger) for $13.95: lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onion and mayonnaise. Served with french fries and a cup of soup (Clam Chowder). I had to cut the burger in half myself. The kitchen staff should have been proactive and cut the burger in half in the kitchen. The burger was tasty. The fries were hot and crisp. The clam chowder was flavorless and the crackers were stale. One of my friends asked for a side of avocado for her burger only to be told that Peper's doesn't serve avocado. Our server was friendly and full of recommendations. Overall, Peper's is decent enough; however, Peper's isn't my type of dining venue and I personally would never return again. read more

Stumbled upon this rear this morning for breakfast. Adorable holiday decorated diner feel with no frills food, but good food. My husband and I were greeted right away and sat. Fresh coffee was brought over right away. I order the 49er omelet and my husband the prospector special... you'll have to try both, scrumptious. All the staff was beyond friendly and hospitable, and the whole meal was extremely affordable. read more

I always think of this place as a biker bar, since you will usually see a lot of hogs parked out front as I pass by on road trips to and from Seattle. But, inside, it is definitely more of a family-style diner. A few stools at a counter, and a handful of booths and tables for larger groups. Castle Rock is a bit of an island in this stretch of road between Kelso and Chehalis which have more dining options. So, I've stopped here a couple times when I needed a break from the road. My advice is to keep it simple when you order. Burgers, sandwiches, fries. When I venture out of that box, things tend to be cooked over or under. Salads are basic (with a large portion of dressing on the side), condiments are in little plastic containers, and they serve Pepsi products. Portions are fine, not huge. I do love a good roadside diner, but this place doesn't rise to that level. read more

I've been to this place pre-Covid, so coming back was kind of a no-brainer. Unfortunately it is now only open five days a week now. I tried to go on a Wednesday, and not only was it closed but it looked out-of-business, no indications that it would be open the next day (But the parking lot looked recently repaved) Still, food was good, whoever came up with the menu is quite creative. Service was a bit off, they seemed understaffed. Maybe that is why they are only open five days a week Still, next visit to Mt St Helens this place will be on the schedule. It's like a time warp of a typical Saturday once a month when I would go dine with my grandparents and utilize every single manner I ever learned, all in one lunch hour. The food is straight forward, recognizable and fast to arrive at your table. The servers are prompt, attentive and friendly. Although the French dip was something left to be desired, the tots were cooked perfectly! The fryer oil was extremely clean and made the fish extra tasty in my partners meal. Best part about this place? You get to choose your side. So whether it's a cup of their homemade soup on a cold, soggy day or a fresh chopped romaine salad with 1 of the homemade dressings you will not be disappointed. Variety is what we seek. read more
