We were kid free for a weekend and decided to go out and do a nice breakfast. After Yelping for a bit we decided on Izzy's. This place has since become our favorite breakfast restaurant. We love the mom and pop feel of the place. The decor is cute and reminds me of an old school dinner. Almost everything that we have tried has been great! The only not so great thing is the corned beef hash...pretty sure its out of a can. But there are so many other options, you won't be disappointed. The wait staff is super sweet and accommodating. Barbecue for breakfast?!? YESSS! I must admit I was a bit apprehensive about the idea but after ordering the pulled pork with eggs and hashbrowns, Lawd have mercy I haven't had a breakfast like that in my entire life. I annihilated the entire plate. Hubby got the southern scramble which was also amazing but nothing on what I had. However he was somewhat disappointed since we decided upon this location because they serve grits. As they were serving us we were informed they were out of grits. The waitress said to come early since they are very popular. (Before 12pm) Not to mention the service was some of the best I've ever received. Greeted as we walked in, given seating options, multiple servers and waitresses constantly refilling our beverages and checking in with us just enough. We had breakfast at Izzy's this morning, and boy are we ever glad we did. We only chose this place because we have a friend named Izzy whom we like very much. My wife had a build your own omlet, which includes up to four items. She only ordered two items, and it appears the cook doubled up on those items to fill the omlet. That was a nice touch. Her meal came with hash browns which were cooked to perfection, and a muffin she was unable to eat because of a nut allergy. Her only knock was that she ordered hot tea, and the water was neither hot nor was the tea selection anything close to decent. I had the small order of biscuits and sausage gravy. It was VERY good, and if what I ordered was the small - I'd likely be shocked to see the large. It was a very large helping and it was right on point. I ordered a side of bacon, which also a step above most coffee shop bacon, in that it was thick cut and served crisp as ordered. The service was prompt, quick and friendly. They were very accommodating and helpful with my wife, who presently has her leg in a cast. This was a good find, and we will visit again if we find ourselves in Santee. read more

PROS: Quite friendly wait staff, cute retro-50's decor, very good brisket and smoky bacon, several comfy booths and east count b'fast places are minimal, so having it there at all is a bonus to some degree. CONS: Expensive - $32 with tip for 2 basic breakfast's/coffee, dried-out eggs - ordered both over hard and scrambled (both dried out & inedible) nasty strong decaf - although they said they'd just brewed it (sent the eggs and the decaf back) fruit (melon) tasted like it was going off and somewhat of an unwillingness to wholly understand my request for no BROWN on my over-hard eggs - in other words I was schooled by my waitress on ordering my eggs properly and they still didn't get the broken yolks, NO BROWN part. ---- not sure we will return, unless we're desperate. read more

I've been here four times now and I can say I'm a fan! Fried cherry, peach, apricot, and apple pie all SO GOOD! I've had beef and pork ribs, pork butt and pulled pork. You want the most delicious pulled pork in San Diego? Its right here! Be warned, the reason for only four stars: The DELICIOUS pulled pork and Ribs dinner menus are ONLY available on Thursdays and Fridays, what about the other five days of the week? My husband and I love this place!!! It is like a throwback to the good all days,with the small-town atmosphere you can either eat at the bar in the back of the restaurant or one of the cozy tables or booths. They have lots of memorabilia on the wall that remind you of your childhood. The food is fantastic! I like the fact that all of the food they serve is made from scratch and on site the breakfast sausage is prepared on site it's to die for!They make this wonderful coffee cake that reminds me of the coffee cake my mother used to make and their biscuits are fluffy and tender just like my mom would make at home I can't express enough how much this place means to be my husband. Went there first time this morning and the service, atmosphere and food was awesome. First the atmosphere. It's like an old fashioned diner full of nostalgia pictures and decor. The service was A+. Our server he was very friendly and attentive, he was awesome. The food was excellent. Had the country fried steak breakfast. The steak was real not like the freezer kind most restaurants use. Eggs where perfect and the hash browns where the best I've had in a long time. Even the toast was supreme. To top it off the 6 of us (2 adults, a teenager, 3 younger ones) all shared a huge piece of deep fried apple pie with ice cream on top. It was plenty to share after a good breakfast. Where already wanting to go back...lol. The only downside is that they close at 2 p.m. so you gotta go early cause no dinner served there...bummed. Try it you'll like it. read more

We finally made it to Izzy's and that was the first and last time. It's not that it was bad; it wasn't. But it was not particular memorable, so when I want breakfast I don't think of the place. That is not a good sign. The food was okay. I'm a vegetarian, so the BBQ items were of no interest to me. Maybe it's better if you're a carnivore. The decor is cluttered and kitschy. I felt surrounded by cuteness, to the point of claustrophobia. Service was, again, okay. We did have to wait a while and the server was not in a hurry to check on us. read more

Was very satisfied by my first visit to Izzy's. I'm new to El Cajon and love a good diner/cafe. I also love good bbq, so I was happy with the Lunch special Beef Brisket Sandwich with french fries & baked beans for $7.99. The bbq sauce is sweet and tangy, and there's plenty of it. The meat is quality and everything was mmm hmmm good. Wish I could have tried the peach cobbler, but they didn't have any that day. But the server gave a couple other options, pie & turnover. Thanks, Yelp for another great find! Went there this morning for breakfast and was very pleased. It's a down home sort of place, but the food is not greasy or bland. My husband had the hot Louisiana sausage & eggs, and I had the BBQ brisket & eggs. The brisket was amazingly tender and delicious, and the sausage was spicy without being overpowering. Loved their homestyle potatoes, too. Huge portions, we took a to-go box home. Very friendly staff, quick with the refills. Oh, and when making the choice between toast, English muffin or one of their homemade muffins, choose the homemade. I had a hot carrot-raisin muffin that was awesome. Arrived late yesterday morning with my wife and son and we enjoyed a really, really good breakfast. My Country Eggs Benedict were great -- essentially biscuits and gravy with a poached egg on top. Gravy was excellent, as were the grits. My wife loved her omelette and my son loved his chicken fried steak with hash browns. Great waitresses and service to boot. Got to give them 5 stars -- best breakfast I've had in a long time. The menu is huge and we can't wait to get back to try some of the other items (especially the fried apple pie, which we were too full to order at the end!). read more
