Avoid this place at all costs!! I was there this past weekend close to closing and not knowing the area and wanted some scotch/wine for my hotel room so that my fiance and I could continue our great North Fork weekend and instead I met with RACIAL PROFILING. As I walked in the first words out of the young guy's mouth was....Hey, can I get you some Hennessy or Ciroc. I had a blank stare on my face because it took a moment for it to settle in that he assumes all African Americans drink Hennessy or Ciroc. So i gave him the benefit of the doubt until he became a 'salesman/spokesperson' for Hennessy with random hip-hop references and poorly generated slang. I told him I have zero desire for either as I drink scotch. He then attempted to sell me cheap scotch and claim it was a best seller.. along with a 2-3x markup. Sidenote I am an avid scotch drinker and belong to multiple scotch based organizations. It was also weird because I could not browse by myself as this terrible cashier/salesman was close enough the entire time to make it look like we were walking down the isle at a wedding. Getting a sense that this place feels sketchy I went over to the wine and found a familiar bottle of wine with a price on it and said this is all I want and left quickly. I don't know why he would think that a high-level African American computer engineer from Boston would walk in the liquor store with boat shoes on would like to buy Hennessey but there are plenty of things about racial profiling that I would never understand. Buyer beware. This place is a blatant rip off , dishonest and fraudulent. Went in to buy a bottle of Jack Daniels and was charged literally double the market price. Went back roght after purchase to teturn it and met with apprehension . Although i got a refund only after alot of arguing and hassle, this place has a lot to learn about customer service. A bit surprised by the negative reviews here. We've been going to J&B for years and I can say that David (and his mom when David is away) are always congenial and helpful. Overall, I always go in and ask for the best deals based on what I'm looking for (usually vodka, tequila, bourbon) and I am always presented with excellent options and value and usually walk out with a brand I would not have considered. Ok. So I went to this store yesterday to ask for a 1.5 liter bottle of Woodbridge Chardonnay and Cabernet. The person working there told me that they didn't have it. She said I have something similar from California. A bottle of both should not have been more than 12 dollars. She wound up charging me 49.99 for 2 bottles of cheap Cabernet from Romania and a Chardonnay from Chile that I could have bought anywhere else for 30 dollars less. She lied about what she was selling me and I didn't figure it out until I got home. Bottom line, these people are dishonest and should not be in business. Perhaps they think they can get away with it because there are so many tourists in Greenport. Unfortunately, they are a stain to all of the other honest businesses there. This place ripped me off, charging me nearly twice as much for a large bottle of Vodka than at least one other store in the area as well as online offers. When I confronted them I was given a cheap bottle of wine which I would never drink. Stay away! read more

If you want to get ripped off here is the place. No itemized receipts and charge whatever they feel based on the costumer daily.

Stay away at all costs. $76 for a 750ml bottle of Patron that costs $43 everywhere else. I know this is Greenport and costs can be higher but not even close to what is legitimate. No prices are displayed and they make up their prices at the register. Oh and all sales are final so if they successfully rip you off you can only exchange for store credit. read more

Avoid at all costs. There are no price tags on anything. The gentleman that runs the place is rude and gives you no space/time to browse their selection and for some reason finds it appropriate to berate his customers with his opinions of their products- this has proved true for everyone else I have spoken to as well. All items are 40-50% more expensive than any alternative. Customer service is non-existent in this establishment. No returns allowed. I have filed a complaint with the NYS liquor authority concerning my most recent experience and I recommend everyone else does the same- it takes less than 1 minute and can be done here: https://www.sla.ny.gov. There are two other liquor stores in Greenport that are recommended (across from the post office on Front St., and another across from Capital One on Main St.). Yep. Loser runs the place and rips you off. He distracts you with no shelf pricing and all sorts of stories then you get a whacked out receipt $40 more than anyplace else. Problem was I was a mark - my kids were in with me after shopping at iga so I was distracted. I'll end up reporting this guy to the state bureau. read more

These people are the worst. They screamed at me when I was trying to return a bottle of wine they had over charged me for. The guy got abrasive and aggressive in front of my family. It was horrible. I am pretty sure they are running an illegal business in the back room. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

This place is awful! Its supposed to be the least expensive place in greenport, and seemed to be reasonable, but I went in there and bought 2 bottles of wine, which should have added up to about $20.00. Instead they charged me $45, and when I only had a card , and asked why it was so expensive they said that the prices up on the shelves were incorrect. They then said they could give me a deal since ther card machines were already turned off (@ 8pm) they could just take all the cash I had ($35). Obviously a scam! read more

Both times I went here they charged me more then the bottle was marked on the shelf. Both times by the same guy. When I mentioned it the first time time he was rude about it and told me that the price he was charging me was the correct one. The second time I was too embarrassed to say anything again but I decided I would not go back there. There are 3 other wine shops in this small town. Got totally ripped off because I went in blind and read reviews after. Don't make same mistake and instead go to one of the other liquor stores in greenport. Bought 1.75L Stoli. No price on shelf or on bottle. Guy said let me check and instead rang it up and charged my VISA. Total was $68. Ok so they got my extra $25 bucks this time but they will lose much more when I never return and tell everyone. Will also contact Chamber of Commerce. This place is as crooked as they come. This store is grungy, small, and dark. I went this weekend and the clerk was very aggressive in asking about what I was looking for. When I asked for a chilled white wine he recommended a local rose. I didn't ask the price, assuming he would not recommend a particularly expensive wine without mentioning it. Big mistake. He rang me up for $27 on a local North Fork wine. Looking online later I saw that the wine averages $14 retail and gets about one star on the typical review. I actually enjoyed it, but that's not the point. This is a shady place to be avoided.... read more

I agree with all of the other posts about this place. My wife and I were in Greenport on our boat and I needed to get some wine for the second leg of our trip. I was going to buy a box of Black box Cabernet which is a decent wine for the money and the box is easier than glass to carry on the boat. The guy in the store talked me out out the Black box Cab and said he had a much better boxed Cab that he would recommend. He said it was the same price as a was a great wine from California. (Bel Arbor). He seemed like a decent young guy so I said Ok. I did think it was a little strange that he had to go into the back of the store to get it. When he rang it up it was $32. I thought to myself that's more than Black box but figured based on his recommendation that it must be worth it. That night we had a glass and it wasn't terrible but not great. The next day we left for another port and we had more of the wine that night. It Really was not great and it tasted like expensive grape juice. We decided we did not want to drink it and it went in the dumpster at the marina. I also noticed that the wine was from Chile and not California as he had said. I honestly feel like I was taken advantage of and upset with myself for not getting what I had intended to buy. Definitely avoid this place. read more
