Item 1: J & G Pizza Palace and Upside Brewing are the same establishment. It would be cool if Yelp would combine the pages, but for some reason, they wont. Item 2: Regardless of what you call it, I love this place, and have since the 1970s. This place is a little neighborhood hole-in-the-wall, and I don't think the decor has changed since the 1970s (literally). Who says that's a bad thing? GYROs: Bottom line is that this is some of the BEST tasting gyro meat I've ever eaten. Period. It's flavored to perfection, and cooked to juicy yet crisp perfection, also. I have no idea what spices they add to the lamb/beef mixture (nutmeg? cumin? cinnamon?) but it has a unique and delicious flavor. This is the first place where, as a little kid, I ever ate a gyro, and they still make one of the best. (Not that my ethnic background matters, but I am Greek, and I've eaten a lot of gyros in a lot of cities and countries). If this is not the best, it's damned close to it. The chicken kabobs are excellent too. When I feel like eating something with more protein and less fat, this is my go to. These are fantastically seasoned and grilled perfectly every time. They come with rice or fries, and some veggies. The Greek salads are next level. They are large, well presented, well put together, and come with a BIG ASS SLAB of feta cheese. The homemade Greek dressing is not the best I have ever had, but it is more than serviceable. Pizza? Oh yeah, the pizza.... J & G,s thin crust pizza is also excellent. The flavor of the sauce is more traditional than what you will find at Amie's or Gino's, and therefore, may appeal to a wider range of tastes. I'd stick with the more basic toppings. To drink, they have milk and pop for the kids, and beer and wine for the adults. In case you haven't guessed, their wine list includes retsina and mavrodaphne. Obviously, as the place is also Upside Brewing, they have a pretty nice selection of beer. Upside has a few taps, and multiple taps from other local and regional brew houses are available. They do get busy, but we've never had unacceptably slow or rude service. read more

This restaurant is located on Main Street in Sylvania. When we were there, construction made it rather challenging to navigate to the parking lot on the side of the building, but it was worth the effort. Upon walking in, I found the vibe upscale divey and comfortable. Our server was dressed in an Easter-themed outfit, as we were there the Saturday before Easter Sunday, and she was very friendly plus attentive. We ordered a feta dip as an appetizer (that I didn't try but feta fans would love). Our Greek Salads were authentic and delicious! The pizzas came with lots of cheese without ordering extra. I was eating the one with mushrooms and it was amazing! I'll post pics below but everything was far better in person. My sister and I came here on a busy Saturday evening. We ordered a drink and fried pepperoni to begin with. I had never had fried pepperonis before so it was interesting. Not sure I would get again but enjoyed trying. The lamb was good but kinda tough. I enjoyed the fries. Overall the food was good and drinks were great. read more

Visited based on a FB post about their spaghetti, which I had never triedd. It was great- better than it looked in the posted pic!- and so was the wine, the salad and the service. This review is for the food. They have a new concept with a full bar and taproom. Exciting to see in downtown Sylvania. We ordered a small Greek Salad that came loaded with veggies, olives and slab of feta, more than enough to share and delicious. The J&G pizza special was served fresh and hot. The crust was so crispy and buttery, the cheese could have been more golden but hey I think that's more of a personal taste. The pizza is cut into diagonal diamonds. OK..This has happened to me now 3 times with J&Gs. It goes like this - Call 30 times ish to place order... busy signal x 30 calls over & over...FINALLY someone answers says "can you hold please"... you stay on hold 20 mins ish - today 27 minutes (4/20/26 525-553pm) Meanwhile while "on hold" you can hear everyone talking in background, people picking up orders etc.. THEN - someone just hangs the phone up or never does answer. Thanks. You just lost 30 minutes of prime order taking business because no one could call in because I have been on hold, you have one line. Seems like a place this busy could get their act together with the phone orders or pay someone to just take phone orders. Common problem here. Also.. when my husband got there today to order in person (since I couldn't place order "on hold") and told them I am currently still on hold for almost 30 mins - they denied It instead of apologizing to me on the other line. Friday night take-out of Greek salad and gyros. The pick up time quoted was correct. Staff was polite, courteous and freindly. The gyro sandwiches are stuffed high of meat as in you can't pick them up. We enjoy their food, period. I loved this little small Greek heaven in the middle of OH. The salad dressing and feta on the fresh Greek salad is authentic and delicious. Best spinach pie of my life . We also tried the house thin sliced pizza and it was so delicious it disappeared before I had a chance to take a picture. Under staffed, long wait for drinks, one waiter for the whole restaurant. Have had pizza before and it was delicious. Tried gyro. Meat comes out on a small plate and looked like a pile of beef jerky! Recently J&G pizza opened and is connected to the Dallas Taproom. During lunch only the Taproom side was open and they serve a limited J&G menu like pizzas, appetizers, and salads. The service was prompt and friendly. The interior of the taproom is industrial modern, while J&G is completely vintage retro. The Greek salad is 5 stars for sure. The small is enough to share, especially if you're getting pizza. The pizza was really good and I would describe as a homemade style with a crackery crust. Sit down pizza restaurants are mostly a thing of the past, but this place is definitely worth the trip. I was surprised by the restaurant having such a low rating. Having lived in sylvania my whole life I have been here quite a few times. I have heard nothing but good reviews over the years. I was highly disappointed by my experience today after having not been here for some years. I insisted my boyfriend try it for the first time and he was satisfied. My concern is that I have a dairy allergy. I get my pizzas without cheese (I know, crazy, but I don't like vegan cheese). Obviously the pizza will then become a little more dry. My pizza was a sad excuse for a pizza. I got the small and it's already thin crust, but it was ROCK HARD. Why did it have to be cooked that long? As a company well known and loved for their pizzas, you would think they would make a good thin crust if that's all they offer.... Thanks for my charred toppings on cardboard. (: read more

Had dinner there with family and friends last Friday. Truth be told, I've been going to J & G's since the early 70s when I was a student at Hill View! It's a time warp and rite of passage for any kid that grew up in Sylvania! I think the only thing that's changed in the old dining room is the flooring. My go-to is always the Greek salad, Gyro dinner and house special pizza. There's no way one person could eat this (not even me!), but I'll die trying every time. Their Greek salad is one of the simplest salads of all time. Iceberg lettuce, a tomato slice, a few Greek olives and a saganaki pepper or two. There's a huge slab of feta (has to be a slab of feta, no crumbles) and the world's best Greek dressing of all time. Amazingly simple and oh so good! The gyros aren't as fatty as they were when I was a kid and that's kind of a shame (at least they're not as fatty as I remember them being back when). This isn't health food and fat is flavor. Besides, this is a once every other month or so kind of thing. These are better eaten at the restaurant as the meat gets kind of dry by the time you get home, and the tzatziki gets warm. The pizza is a one-of-a-kind thing here. The crust if amazingly thin (I call it matzoh pizza). It has tons of cheese, not too much sauce and just the right amount of toppings. Be warned though, they get busy and the pizza orders back up. We were able to get a table in about 30 minutes, but the pizza orders were backed up for an hour. Some advice would be to order your pizza once you get your name in for the table. Tell them it's an order for the dining room, but you're getting the order in because of the back up. Make sure you tell the waitress this too!!! If things work out correctly, all of the food should come relatively close to the same time. If you're not into gyros, the beef kabobs are GREAT. So is the spaghetti. Oh, the BEER!!! They have a brewery now and the beers are pretty darned good. I tried the IPA for the ALS support (sorry, I can't remember the exact name, but it's a great beer!). They also have a full bar now. Back when it was nothing but really questionable Greek wines (come on, does anyone really like retsina? Is mavrodaphne really pancake syrup)? They did have chianti, but not great chianti. If you've not been here, give it a try. You won't be dissapointed! read more

We placed an order for a large sausage, black olive, and double cheese pizza to pickup. True to their word, they said 20 mins and it was ready when we arrived. Been going here my whole life. It's a staple for our family. Everything has always been so amazing. Service is great food it amazing. Since the renovation food has taken a little longer to come out of the kitchen but that's to be expected. With delivery apps and togos they get on top of all the restaurants dine in orders. Over all still after 40 years this is a must try. House special pizza Is our go to. We add bacon. Also the Greek salad... lamb kabob and cheese bread our some of our favorites. J&G is one of my favorite places to eat! I always get a gyro and a large pepperoni pizza. The pizza is extra good when you dip it into the gyro sauce! I love that the staff is always friendly. This place has been around for a long time and I used to eat it when I was a kid. I'm not sure what the sauce or crust on the pizza is, but I love the taste. Plus they spin the pizza dough right in front of you! There is a lot of history in the atmosphere of the shop. Now they have a brewery so I can't wait to get back in there and see what that's all about! read more

I have been going to J&G's since I was around ten, about 35 years ago. I know help is hard to get, but I will not go back. While picking up take out, another patron brought up COVID vaccinations. The kid (employee) responded that it was his right not to get a shot, and he is right. But after I explained that my kids couldn't get vaccinated and that I was concerned, he fired back with a completely inconsiderate comment. Basically he didn't care. He told me he hoped I never brought my kids into J&G's again. He will get his wish, and all my friends with kids will be told this story. I hope the owners reads this post. Your employee wears a head band, has long curly hair, with a smart inconsiderate as mouth, especially when talking about kids getting COVID And their health. Completely unacceptable. read more

Decided to eat in. Took awhile to get a table, but they were really busy so that is understandable. The pizza took awhile to come out. Ordered two large pizzas, both were incredibly hot, took awhile to cool down, the toppings on the house special were tasteless as was the cheese and sauce, the crust was excellent. The 2nd pizza tasted a little better as it had less toppings and had the consistency of a pizza instead of a bowl of soup. The pizza is more of a knife and fork kinda style, thick crust on the outside and wet soggy on the inside, not really my thing. The restaurant is laid out poorly and very crowded as well. read more

I ordered a pizza and salad and when I came in to pick it up I watched the two workers behind the salad/gyro station touching everything with bare hands, including raw kabobs to go on the grill & then touching tomatoes and condiments without washing their hands between.
