He took the time to explain the menu, walk us through the daily specials that are all made from scratch, and really made sure we knew exactly what we were ordering. His transparency and genuine enthusiasm for the food were refreshing! We decided on the Cuban, the Island Wrecker, lentil soup, and broccoli salad. I used to go here a lot. However, the quality of sandwiches have changed, the service is not the same since the owner (Jason and Carmela) left to open another location. The current staff make you feel like you're bothering them. Not sure if there are new owners or they just don't show up any more but I need to find a new place. The sandwiches are smaller and more. JG would be easy to overlook... buried in the corner of a strip mall on Hicksville Road... but it is certainly worth finding! My wife and I were looking for a new spot to Door Dash breakfast from. JG's menu looked good, and since our first order, we've become regular customers. BEC on a roll is egg-cellent... and the breakfast wrap is delicious. We've (Wantagh Senior Center) been fortunate enough to find this gem of a deli. We order egg sandwiches for our brunches. It's not easy to please 25-30 seniors at one time with an order. But, they've managed to do it. They all arrive hot and delicious. We've also ordered complete turkey dinners for about 25 of our seniors. They were spectacular! Turkey, potatoes, fresh crispy veggies, stuffing and gravy. Everything was hot and so very tasty. Can't wait until our next function so we can again enjoy their wonderful food and service. This deli was a little out of the way for me to grab a quick lunch from home, however, I am certainly glad I made that trip! I got 'the bomb' hero which comes with a side of amazing Mac salad. The wife got a Cuban panini. My hero was so huge I had to unhinge my jaw to get my mouth around it. Most of the time delis don't use prosciutto and mortadella in their Italian hero's so I was elated when I saw the legitimacy in this sammich. Friendly counter service and phone ordering was a cinch. Wow really can't say enough good things about this place. By far best deli in the area. And each worker is nicer than the next! This past weekend I called them with an odd request. I asked for them to write my cousins baby's name on the deli paper because she was dreaming of an Italian hero for 9 months and just had the baby. They all went above and beyond and made sure the hero was going to taste bomb and it did! Freshest cold cuts around and I have never had a bad sandwich from here. Came in here first before a bunch of people came in after me. Ordered a simple bacon egg and cheese with a hash brown. Waited for 20+ mins. They gave my sandwich to someone else and were left with the one he ordered which was essentially the same thing but with avocado. They then took then took the avocado off his sandwich and gave me the old one so not only was it cold, but it also had pieces of avocado which I am allergic to. read more

Okay so this love story began with going to my local deli for an egg sandwich and seeing a sign saying that they were closed. I don't love any other egg sandwiches in my area so I turned to grub hub to see if I can find something worth delivering and I stumbled upon J & Gs Delicatessen. Now at first I was hesitant because it is around 15 minutes from me, plus its eggs but I still gave it a try. And in return I received one of, if not the best, egg sandwiches I have ever had. We ordered 5 sandwiches/wraps on Father's Day at 12pm for a 12:30pm pick-up and the order was 10 minutes late, although they were VERY busy at that time. 4 out of 5 of us were very pleased with our selections (hence, 4 out of 5 stars--see what I did there?). The menu is plenty extensive, but the value of different items can vary greatly. The basic sandwiches are of great value ($8.99), whereas the potato and macaroni salads at $6/lb were not of great value. The catering menu also seems to be way overpriced for some things and about average for others; the catering menu has some desirable dishes not often found on catering menus, so it's worth checking out. The sub rolls are about 1 foot long (with sesame seeds, for those who care), and all of the sandwiches were sufficiently stuffed that most of us only ate half and saved the other half for later. The biggest sandwich complaint was regarding the Cuban. My expectations were very modest for a Cuban sandwich from a generic deli, and that's about what I received. I asked them to hold the Swiss cheese, so I don't know how that would have changed things; they had the pickles and mustard right, but where a Cuban is supposed to feature the pork, it had two very thin slices of pork and the rest was filled in with deli ham (see photos). Also, I wasn't expecting the right bread, but this was way off the mark, and I think they put mayo in there (also inauthentic). I'd still highly recommend checking out this place for discerning deli-goers as I'm sure you'll find something worth Yelping about in a nice way. read more

I just went in there and got charged 4.00 to add lettuce and tomato to a sandwich!!! 8 dollars for chicken on a roll yet the receipt says hero. Literally charged for me toppings that come on every sandwich they sell. Despicable. Got a sandwich, fries and a pickle and cost me 28 dollars. You guys should be ashamed. And then the counter guy had the nerve to say " of course you do" when i said since when do you have to pay for lettuce and tomato. Safe to say they lost my business. read more

I wanted to do a new review, after I though about it, my previous experience was not based on the delis as a whole... after re evaluation, I felt that... this was just a busy busy day for them and there might have been a bit of confusion and language barrier, however that could happen anywhere you go. And as someone who recently moved from another part of Long Island it isn't un common as I'm learning to spend $15 -$17 dollars on a coffee egg sand which and hash brown, or roll sand which chips and a drink ... this I learned is the normal going rate i have seen in most massapequa delis so far. Solid deli sandwiches. Check out my pics. They put like a half a pound of meat on every sandwich, use fresh bread every day. The ownership changed a little over a year ago. I didn't know the last ones but the new guys here are great. Very friendly, they work hard and are fast and accomodating. I cane with my little girl and they set her up with a nice grikked cheese and a drink, even gave her a lollipop. Went out of their way to make us welcome and well fed. I have to change my earlier review, which was posted after a half dozen visits. Longer term patronage has definitely opened my eyes about this deli and dramatically changed my opinion. The reasons for my change of opinion: After more and more visits, I have found the food has become very inconsistent in quality**. Even worse, I have been increasingly victimized by: being charged for items I asked for, which were on the counter with my other items, but the items mysteriously left the counter during packing, but they did not end up in my bag. This has happened on three of my last four visits and my last two visits*** My experience outside of breakfast foods is limited, but nothing at J&G has been all that great to begin with. Add to that the fraud they have committed against me, and 2/5 stars is a pretty generous rating. ** Examples: - Homes fries and home fries are often undercooked, to the point of inedibility without cooking them later myself - Hash browns are $4 for what amounts to a single 20 cent potato - Homemade mozzarella is blad and tasteless - Egg whites now made from cartons of factory-made, pre-frozen egg whites, rather than fresh egg whites - Deli salads are about 1.5-2x the price that I get from Sequa, whose quality my family prefers over J&G anyway *** My last three or so visits had been separated by well over a month each because I had given up on them but was giving them a second and third chances out of nostalgia, and the hope that these thefts were just isolated mistakes. read more
