Wow. When your diesel pickup turns over but refuses to start; with all of the sensors, control units injectors and other expensive parts that can quit working; there is almost no imaginable "good outcome". Unless you are lucky enough to be within towing distance of Stan and his J and J Automotive repair shop. Got there and unloaded from the tow truck in one of those Oregon Coast frog strangler downpours. They came out and pushed my truck half way into a bay, the only spot available in the shop and went to work and I'm pretty sure they were staying late to figure out the problem so left them to it. The next morning I received a call with the good news that the problem had been solved with some extensive trouble shooting and diagnostics at what I consider a ridiculously low price. 5 months to repair engine drivability problem. Never wrote up a repair ticket or estimate. I called them several times, they didnt call me with an update. Never gave me a hint at when it would be done. Never saw the old part. Never got a final written description of the problem. Explanation of problem was vague. The upside is the car runs better but not perfect. I cant go there again. read more

I feel pretty darn lucky to have found Stan (the owner) and his crew at J&J. Our motor-home died on the 101 South just past Florence and refused to start. It was pure luck (or God) that I found J&J as I was actually on my way to another mechanic to schedule a diagnostic and I made a wrong turn onto J&J's street. Long story short, Stan carefully listened to my explanation of the stalling issue, asked some very smart questions and set about testing several different systems until he honed-in on an electrical issue. Not only did he quickly find the problem, but he also found the root cause of it, and repaired everything along the chain to ensure that it was 100% solid. Oh, and he was slammed with business and still managed to get us taken care of. Brilliant service, smart and professional work, honest operator and highly skilled technicians. Don't go anywhere else. Amazing service. There's a Subway right next to it and you can easily walk next door to buymart. Got my fluids changes and they were really cool about looking all throughout my rig to see if any other things were off. Great people, very friendly and helpful. On vacation, our diesel truck took a dump. Had it towed to J and J Automotive. Stan, owner, told me they have been in business 9 years. They had to put a new starter, fuel injection system harness and did other service for $966. They didn't try to run up the bill. So far the truck runs better than when we bought it used. Talked to a friend who is a diesel mechanic and said worked performed sounded logical with the symptoms we encountered. Stan was courteous, and I believe tried to keep the cost down which was mostly parts. It took two days because parts had to come from out of town. Would have been five stars but I had to call in three times to get a status update. I guess they were busy working on cars rather than talking on the phone. My radiator blew out on the way back from a camping trip (at night), and I have to say, these guys went out of their way to help. Stan, the owner, made the process painless, seemed competent, and gave me a price lower than what I expected. It took the supplier two days to get the part delivered so that J&J could fix everything, so I stayed that night in Florence, got a ride back to Eugene with a friend, and rode the bus back to pick up my car. Stan actually offered to drive down, pick me up at the bus stop across town, and give me a ride to the shop. None of the BS you sometimes get with mechanics--they were courteous, professional, efficient, and affordable. The car had no problems afterwards (no surprises a few weeks later). I couldn't ask for more from an unexpected and unfortunate situation. They made the whole matter bearable. I didn't have the problem mentioned in the other review with phones, for what it's worth. They picked up every time, Stan always knew what he was talking about, and when asked if they would run any repairs by us before they did them, he said something to the extent of, "Oh, absolutely! It is very important for us to be trustworthy. We live in a small town, and if word got out we were dishonest, it would ruin us!" I will deal with somebody who has that business philosophy any day of the week. read more

Stopped in as we were desperate on a Saturday evening after everything was closed. My truck needed a tie rod fix and everything was closed. Stan the owner fixed us up great and did it on his own time when he was actually closed. Back in July 2007, my 1999 Subaru Outback (which I bought new) went kaput at 94k miles. It needed both an engine and a transmission. That was quite a financial disaster, so not being a mechanic myself, I went with the least expensive option.. having Stan put in an engine and transmission from a wrecked Subaru. My Subaru is still rolling along and now with over 160k miles, so I'd have to say they do great work at J & J Automotive. read more
