The previous locksmith who installed Schlage locks for me was not very experienced with the system and took three times as long to install. He also didn't know how to program (hence why I spent forever learning and doing for him). Jim doesn't even need instructions manuals. He's so experienced that he read off the instructions in his head to me (while i had my manual to confirm). He's amazing at problem solving while being honest, fair, and ethical. I needed a locksmith to drill a larger hole in my door to install the new Baldwin touchpad lock I bought online, then put everything together to make sure it worked smoothly. Checked Yelp and found J&M -- consistently 5-star reviews. Called earlier this afternoon and they happened to be on the way back from a job in Rancho Santa Fe. I texted a few photos of the old and new locks and my door and they instantly quoted me a (very reasonable) price. I said yes, and Jim and his wife/assistant Margie arrived at my home within 15 minutes. Within another 20 minutes or so, the job was done -- to perfection. We have an HOA with a pool area in Bay Park. Our security system was an old key lock that was inefficient and needed to be replaced. I put out bids to 6 locksmith companies in San Diego. All but one recommended the Trilogy code system. Bids ranged from $1150 - $3450. Even though JM was not the lowest or the highest, they did have the most 5 star reviews on Google and because their bid was detailed. I felt they could be trusted to not add more to the bid. Short and sweet review- Bf locked his keys in his trunk. He wasn't panicking as much as I expected him to, but I knew he was stressed out about it, lol. It wasn't long until I went into Yelp and looked up, "locksmith near me." J&M came up in the top of my searches. After perusing their reviews, I called them and Margie (the 'M' in 'J & M'), picked up. I asked for their quotes after providing them with my bf's car make and model- $85 with card or $75 with cash She instructed me to text the number I called with the address, my name, and number. I proceeded to do just this and also included a photo of the destination and a short video clip showing how to find the building. Between me calling Margie and her and Jim (you guessed it- he is the 'J' in the 'J & M'!), arrived within 15 minutes. Lightning fast! I waited for them in the corner and waived them towards the building. Jim was such a pleasure and a character! He's like... the cool and funny uncle you wish you had! He joked with my bf and I while he did his magic to my bf's car. The whole process took not even 5 minutes and they were on their way to their next call as soon as I knew it. Though the price was steep ("steep" since I don't know what other locksmiths charge), I didn't mind the price for the quality service I received, along with J&M's quirkiness. Contacted J & M as I was having an issue with an electric lock safe. Put me in touch with his safe guy John who walked me through several things but the issue persisted. I called J & M Locksmith because I was having difficulty inserting the key in my front door deadbolt. I spoke to Jim and he said it could cost as much as $90 for him to come over and repair. However, before he did that, he suggested I spray some WD40 into the keyhole to see if it fixes the problem. Lo and behold! It did (Yeah, I'm "handyman" challenged!). Anyway, I'm impressed Jim would offer free advice and lose an opportunity to make some money (I would not have known any better). It does speak to this man's INTEGRITY!
