Ah! We got locked out! My boyfriend's front door has a smart lock and today was the day that the battery finally died--and of course, it was the day we didn't bring the backup keys with us. To go grocery shopping. Whoops. So we come back with four arms full of mostly cold items and our dinner of mostly hot takeout items, and when my boyfriend went to put his front door code in, only the first digit worked before the pad died. "Noooooo, our fridge items! Our fried chicken!" So I quickly open up Yelp to find a locksmith and Zohar responded pretty soon after I put in the details of the job, and told me he could be in La Jolla in 30-40 minutes. The price was lower than the other quote we received, and he had 100 more reviews, but the main reason we went with Zohar was because he was responsive. We were already texting back and forth and he was on his way before I even got a response from the other locksmith. So we sat down, dug into our fried chicken, and waited. Zohar arrived in shorts and sandals and was like "ignore the bottom half of me." I laughed but I was more stressed than anything else, and I definitely wasn't judging a San Diegan for wearing shorts and sandals (this time). He took one look at the lock and identified it as a "smart key" lock, which are basically pick-resistant because they have some guard thingy with a second hole. He said it would be $45 more and he would have to drill it. We weren't thrilled but we really just wanted to save our groceries. So 30 minutes later and he has successfully unlocked the door without ruining the lock, waited for us to change the batteries, and to test the code again. He even helped us bring our groceries inside. Zohar was very personable and we greatly appreciated his help in our moment of desperation.
