The contractor suggested Kitchen Associates (KA), which was perhaps the best vendor on our list. The Sterling location isn't very close, but the service, personnel, and goods more than compensated for the extra miles we had to drive to get there. This two-floor establishment has sample kitchens set up with every type of cabinetry, hardware, counter covering, pantry, and hardware imaginable, so you could picture what your own space could possibly look like. We brought in pictures of our then-kitchen and asked for suggestions on how to modify it. Jay, the owner, took our paperwork and rough measurements, and in 30 minutes came up with a beautiful plan that would accommodate everything we wanted...at no charge. We chose the cabinets and layout, and were then directed to a granite place where we chose the slabs. Prices for the cabinets and installation, etc., were very reasonable, and the installer was fabulous, clean, and quick. The result is a great new kitchen with a large pantry closet and a center island. Edit: We also purchased our bathroom cabinet/sink from KA, and they put in a rush to have it manufactured and delivered (took about 2 weeks from the time we ordered) when I told them that our builder was anxious to finish. The original vendor for bathroom stuff screwed up and never ordered the cabinet (the salesperson I had spoken to also had an attitude). KA came through. My initial design ideas were made better with their expertise and visually my kitchen looks exactly as I'd hoped. The work done by plumbers, electricians, painters, and all sorts of other specialist companies is top notch. What is well below expectations is the project oversight, attention to detail, customer service, and communication. I paid a premium price for low quality project management and two out of four major appliances being limited function to non-functional on the day they called the project "Majority of Work Complete". Venting work was needed outside, for a project taking place in the winter, and they saved the work for the last week of the project when adverse weather conditions prevented it from being done. The week prior I asked why the work wasn't even on the schedule and they assured me that they had it under control and the work would be completed on time. Apparently not consulting the weather forecast for an outdoor weather dependent project. Weather is beyond their control. Planning for weather to be beyond your control is what a good project manager does. But at least I can use the stove, as long as I don't burn anything I'm cooking or care whether my whole house smells like the kitchen. The brand new dishwasher is completely non-functional, doesn't even turn on. There were many sink elements in my project plan, which they were aware of when measuring for the very nice very expensive custom cabinets. Yet when I pull the faucet nozzle extension the under sink trash can gets knocked off track. I could remove the under sink trash can and solve that problem, but the reason I paid for custom cabinets including the under sink trash cans is there is no room for trash cans in my small kitchen. I wrongly assumed their measurements would account for the needed room for all the elements in the plan. When I expressed concern about the lack of oversight on the project and lack of care with my installs I was told to enjoy my beautiful kitchen. So if you're looking for a stunning kitchen that doesn't function, go with these guys without worry. If you're looking for a beautiful kitchen that also works, think twice.

After checking with family and friends, we contacted Covenant Kitchens & Baths as our first choice…read moreto discuss renovating our kitchen, mudroom & laundry room in our 100+ year old family home. The kitchen had very little counter space and outdated electrical, but we believed it was a difficult room to do much with as it had five doors and three windows which greatly limited our options. It had been last reno'd in 1990 but that was just a cosmetic reno, i.e., paint, flooring, cabinets & countertop. We met with Gerard and he agreed to take on our project. We spent about three months on design work with him and his design team, Pam & Emily, which, based on their input, changed very significantly from our original idea. The original layout was very inefficient because the cook prep area was spread over the entire space, and to get from the mudroom to the rest of the house, you had to walk through the prep area. They were able to offer suggestions to essentially flip the design of the space 180 degrees which allowed for the installation of a traditional U-shaped counter as well as the separation of the cook prep and dining areas. Since the walls had not been down in our lifetime, we had no real idea what we'd find although we expected that there were going to be things that would need attention. We found that there were rotted posts near what were originally exterior doors and floor joists. The fieldstone foundation was caving in as it only had mortar on the outside. There were structural issues with the second-floor landing (hidden above the ceiling) and lack of collar ties on the roof structure. The Covenant team estimated the job to take 12-14 weeks. We moved in and started using the space again right at the 14-week mark. Every weekday for 14 weeks, including a small number of Saturdays, there was at least one contractor at the house doing something. Anyone that has ever been involved with construction knows that is amazing scheduling. They easily could have lost at least a week or two deciding on how to resolve the foundation issue and then lining up the sub-contractors needed. The end result has been transformative. The space looks larger than it was due to having vaulted the ceiling and the organization of space. A triple window over the sink now looks out to the yard, brightening up the space. The kitchen is much more functional than it previously was. The attention to detail that they have is really amazing. They are able to visualize what the space will look like when finished. They try to incorporate the style of what they are designing into the rest of the home so that it looks new and modern but doesn't clash if you have an older home such as we do. The suggestions that they made for colors and finishes worked out very well. We'd very highly recommend them to anyone considering kitchen or bath work; as a matter of fact, we have spoken with several people who plan to contact them about upcoming projects.

This is our first bathroom remodel and it's fair to say that we were more than a little overwhelmed by all of the choices available. Thankfully, April is an old pro and understands the options inside and out. We booked an appointment with her for later in the week and within a couple of hours the decisions were made and we left with great confidence in the items we chose. One of the things we really appreciated was that the Ultimate Bath has a wet wall where they can demonstrate a broad range of fixed and hand held shower heads. There is no question that really simplified the process for us. Horrible experience overall. We went with Norfolk based on a referral from a friend who's husband…read moreworks as a cabinet / installer. From start to finish, nothing but trouble. First, our designer lost the design plans and tried to cover it up. This caused us to have to try to re-remember items that we had discussed prior. For example, we asked for no spice rack, then we get a spice rack, so we then had to improvise once the project was underway. Completely incompetant...no apologies, and our designer clearly didn't listen the first time, take notes, and honestly just didn't care at all about us. We should have known then, next time we will just walk away..... Next, our contracter was a complete joke. Never inspected the site for follow up / punch list items. Eletrical and Floor contracters were sub par, we still have a light switch that doesn't work properly. They destroyed our dining room floors relocating our refridgerator, with no full repair, just a touch up that looks like crap. They also damaged our mudroom floor and apparently have no idea how to fix what they broke, so I now have a gap in my floor that has never been addressed. Lastly, they never finished the final revisions to the trim. I told this clown several times what we needed to tidy up on, and several times never receieved follow up. In other cases, he did not properly relay instructrions to the sub contractors, so twice we had cabinet / trim people show up without the necessary materials to tidy up. The cabinent / trim guys were the only bright spot in an otherwise horrible experience. I truly felt bad for Bud and Shawn as their time was wasted by our General Contractor. As it stands now, almost 6 months since we were suppossed to be "complete" and zero follow up. I am embarrased to have people show up with incomplete instructions, and our general contractor has not visited the kitchen to address anyting since NOVEMBER of last year. Do not go with this place, over budget, zero follow up, horrible design team, bad sub contractors. Complete waste of time, and we never got the satisfaction of a final, complete, project....

Worst experience ever! I went to Norfolk when I decided to renovate my kitchen. The experience…read morebegan well enough with a conversation on scope and timing of the project. Once I found the cabinets, handles, countertop, and backsplash, the order was placed. Prior to the order, measurements were taken by the sales consultant at Norfolk. This is where the trouble began. Despite measurements being correct, the sales consultant never considered the measurements from my Kitchen window which served as the focal point of the room. Cabinets took 3 weeks to arrive and when my contractors began placing them according to the drawings, 4 did not fit and the 5th came in damaged. Needless to say I was not happy as this should not have happened. When I called the store, no one picked up my call, prompting me to have to drive to the store. When I informed her of the error, she immediately tried to deflect the error to the contractors asking them if they were placed in the correct locations. After approximately 1 hour of trying to reconfigure the plans on her computer to fit the cabinets that arrived, she relented and came to see in-person. Her response to me was, "I don't know how this happened", this has never happened to me before. Who cares! Now we need to reorder cabinets, which was scheduled for another 3 weeks. Needless to say, I was pissed that I needed to wait another 3 weeks for replacements to come in. When I asked if they could be rushed, I was immediately told no, without the benefit of picking up the phone. I let her know I was not happy, and I got the best customer service response ever, "I know it sucks to be without a kitchen for another 3 weeks". Well as luck would have it, the cabinets arrived one week later than the promised delivery date. The remaining cabinets were then installed, and it came time to install the handles. Well, I did not have the right sizes for all of the cabinets. When asked if I could exchange unopened one's for what I needed, again I was told no, but we can order replacements (out of pocket expense). I asked about the time for those to arrive. Guess what? Another 3 weeks, so I had to locate on-line and purchase myself. I would never use this place again, nor suggest anyone else use them in the future.
