Our experience with Scribner's Kitchen and Bath, particularly owner Jim Moran, left us feeling…read moreprofoundly disrespected and fell significantly short of our expectations for a "luxury" kitchen designer. I remember assurances from Jim Moran that he was detail-oriented and would collaborate with my wife--an architect and engineer--he was notably absent from the design process after our initial meeting. For six months, near weekly design meetings with Scribner's were frustrating due to incorrect or unchanged plan updates. My wife ultimately developed key design features for the kitchen on her own and which I recall Jim Moran acknowledging were superior to his own. During construction, we discovered the kitchen island was installed 8 inches off-plan and was 6 inches shorter than the design. This highlighted that the measurements used to develop the plans were off by nearly six inches and resulted in a less than 27-inch clearance around our island. It felt as though Jim Moran dismissed our concerns, as I recall him claiming "he didn't think we'd notice" the change and stating the clearance was "fine", although not to code. I remember him only conceding to relocate the island when we pointed out it wouldn't accommodate my mother-in-law's wheelchair. Due to the inaccurate measurements used for developing the design, months of my wife's meticulous work on sightlines were rendered useless, for which we were offered no compensation. Undiscussed design details and quality issues were prevalent. Incomplete tile work, cracked new cabinets from costly under cabinet lighting installation, multiple unfilled crown molding seams, and countertop seams not identified in the design. Nearly every cabinet was damaged, and adhesive, from mounting the countertops, was left to harden on interior cabinet walls. In every instance it felt Jim Moran was only interested in fighting us to avoid rework. When my wife asked how we could adjudicate these issues, I recall Jim Moran shockingly threatened us with legal action. Not at all the experience we'd expect from the owner of a "luxury" kitchen contractor. I was further insulted when Jim Moran implied our complaints were related to being unable to afford the renovations; which is completely untrue and unfounded. Our checks all cleared without issue. We were never offered compensation or rework for the majority of our concerns as, it felt like, Jim Moran belittled our quality standards. The project, estimated for 4-6 weeks, dragged on for over 10 weeks, with no compensation offered for our increased displacement time or food costs. Insultingly the team abandoned the site without notifying us, and did not perform a final walk-through or punch list, leaving a dishwasher with standing water and tile unfinished. When we reached out to Scribners for help they notified us that the job was complete. We withheld final payment on appliances due to unsatisfactory installation and Scribners accepting damaged products. The appliance store graciously was able to get Jim Moran's attention which prompted another week of disgruntled contractors trudging through our home to fix appliances, tile, and lighting. Even then, broken pull-out cabinets remained, which I, exhausted from the experience, opted to fix myself, again without compensation or apology. Overall, the experience felt like dealing with a used car salesman--issues were hidden, options concealed, product information was incorrect, and communication was poor. Most disappointingly, my wife experienced increasingly rude treatment, including disregarded emails, belittlement of her expectations, and even legal threats.There were countless other issues and disrespectful comments that are too lengthy for this review. I hoped waiting a few months to write this review would make me feel better about the situation, as ultimately it is a nice kitchen. However, the treatment from the owner was unacceptable. I get no joy from writing this review but hope it helps others make a more informed decision, as I feel taken advantage of and foolish for trusting Scibners promises.

From the initial consultation to the final installation, the process was seamless. Jim and Cindy are amazing and a delight to deal with. Cindy is very knowledgeable and helps with all the finishes, colors, flooring, hardware, etc. as well as scheduling. Jim is the owner and his building knowledge is impressive. He visited the site everyday. Jim has a tremendous team that he has worked with for years- extremely professional and they all worked hard to meet the high standards of Scribner's. Once they started there was never a delay- the electrician, the plumbers came when needed. No was called off for another job. It really is a well oiled machine. I was always well informed of what was going on. This is a top-notch organization. If you want a great kitchen, run, don't walk, to Scribner's Kitchen and Bath Design!

I worked primarily with Janice in the show space on South Main St. She showed me differences in models and lines while patiently answering my questions over the course of a few weeks. I was surprised at the detailed process we went through when I finally decided on what I wanted and sat down with her to go through the order itself. Janice went through every choice from windows to gable vents to locations and sizes of windows and doors. After waiting 3 weeks for the shed to be built in pieces, the assembly crew showed up on the appointed day right on time. Jose, Edvin, and Celso arrived at 9am, and got to work quickly, assembling the shed in a little more than 6 hours. Other than a short break for lunch, they worked steadily, kept things neat, and cleaned up after they were done. The finished product is well-constructed. Within hours of the assembly crew heading back to NY, it started to rain in CT for the next 36 hours. My town received close to 5" of rain, yet the shed was bone dry inside, much to my relief. From beginning to end, I'm very happy with the service and final product, and I'd highly recommend Best in Backyards to anyone in the market for a storage shed.

In short, They run like a small business that cares about its customers. Our last two purchases had defects from the manufacturers. ! item was a Fisher & Paykel refrigerator where the water dispenser stopped functioning after one year. Shore TV got the manufacturer to replace the item with a new one and even threw in the $70 water filter replacement. The unit had been incorrectly insulated and evidently the water line was frozen by Fisher & Paykel running it too close to the freezer. The second item was a GE induction range. The unit was DOA on arrival as the oven kept shitting off. It was going to be several weeks to get a replacement and Shore TV had already removed our old stove. We would have been out of luck but Shore TV offered (and we took them up on it ) to provide a temporary replacement stove (electric and basic) until the part for the GE came it. While I skeptical that replacing a part on a new stove was not a great idea (I wanted a brand new one), Shore assured me the item would be correct when they got the part. It was . They were extremely accommodating by getting us a stove to use until the replacement part came in (3 weeks) . I am only concerned now because they have combined with a company called Hallocks and their Yelp rating is poor at best.

Chris from EH Builders Supply asked where the materials would be used where I told him in the basement. He said if they could open the windows, they would be willing to just place the materials directly into the room via the windows and garage. How awesome. Everything was neatly place into our room in a matter of 10 minutes and they were well on their way. Chris was friendly and personable, a pleasure to work with. Thank you!

After we closed on the house they provided a bill to our builder with a different cost. We had to pay the builder since he had already paid for it, though when I tried to clear up the manner with the supplier he refused to acknowledge the previous quote then threatened me and informed me there was nothing I can do and no lawyer would help in this manner and I am out of luck. I felt like I was treated so unfairly and robbed out of what should have been a wonderful experience. DO NOT WORK WITH THEM!

There was no floor model to inspect, and she trusted the store's description and history. When the grill arrived, it had only stainless trim, no wheels, and was clearly not the heavy-duty model she expected. She declined delivery politely and even offered to pay the price difference or use gift cards to upgrade to the better model. They refused. Instead of working with her, they issued a refund--and then left her a voicemail telling her never to shop there again. Their own voicemail admitted it was a "snafu" and they "don't normally sell natural gas grills," but punished her for not accepting a downgrade. This wasn't about being difficult. It was about being fair. After over 7 years of loyalty, this was their response. If this is how they treat long-time customers, I encourage others to think twice before shopping here.

She even reviewed the different finishes the lights came in and perfectly match the metal color of the pendent light and size of the fixture that looked the best in our new kitchen. Her services provided in our selection process could not be achieved by just going on line and placing an order. We visited the store and must say it was an incredible experience working with Melissa. The ability to get help from Melissa, "Shop Local" and receive the lights in three days made for an incredible shopping experience at Be The Light Designs.
