Let me start by saying, I had encounters with 5 different employees from J&S Pools. Carly, in the main office, was nice and friendly, and helpful. No problems there. Matt, one of the servicemen that came out to install a pump that I had warranty work done on was good as well. Friendly, on time, courteous, and knew what he was doing. 2 other service techs, they admittedly didn't really know what they were doing, and didn't know anything about the cost of the repairs they came to estimate, but they were able to remove the part of my motor that needed to be replaced and went on their merry way. THE OWNER, however, I believe his name is Jim. This guy was the farthest thing from professional I have ever experienced. My Hayward Variable Speed pump stopped working and I called Hayward and they told me that J&S was an authorized warranty provider. I called and scheduled an appointment with Carly to have the above mentioned 2 unnamed service men come to look at my pump. I confirmed with Carly that if this was a warranty issue there would be no cost to me. It was deemed that the motor was burnt out and needed to be replaced. Seeing as how the pump was less than one year old, it was under warranty and there should have been no charge. They took the pump and let me know that a new one would be brought out and installed and should be free as it is under warranty. A few days later, Matt (technician) came and installed the new pump and I confirmed that the pump got warrantied out and there was no charge. I assumed this was the end of my interaction with J&S and to this point everyone had been nice and helpful and I would be using J&S forever. Imagine my surprise when 2 weeks later I receive a bill for nearly $100 ($96 I believe) for the service call to install my new pump. Rather than call, I visit the store in person and was greeted by Jim. When I told him who I was, he knew the situation (pump burnt out and got warranties) right away. I mentioned that I had no idea why I was receiving a bill for this service as I was told multiple times that it would be no cost. Jim told me that they were unable to get paid for the repair by Hayward as the pump had no serial number on it and they could not verify the warranty, therefore I had to pay the standard service charge. I asked why I was getting charged when I was told multiple times that I would not be charged a thing. My problem is not that I am being charged because if that is the case that my pump was no longer under warranty then I would have taken that up with Hayward, but the fact that you had 2 different opportunities after the initial service call to tell me there would be charges and you never bothered to mention it. Jim immediately got irate and threw my copy of the bill at me and said, "fine I'll take care of it, it's gone. You can leave now" After discussing this with Jim for approximately 5 minutes I was able to DRAG out of him that all I needed to do was provide the serial number and they would be able to get their money for the service from Hayward. So I got Jim's email, went home, and sure enough in 2 different places on my pump were very large font stamped serial numbers that clearly none of the technicians ever bothered to look for. I sent a picture of them to Jim, even though that should not have been my responsibility. I went out of my way to treat them right, and needless to say, Jim was one of the worst interactions I have ever had. I will NEVER use J&S again and I advise you all to stay away as well. read more

These guys are HORRIBLE! They tell you they'll be there on a certain date and do not show up or even call. I had them do a start-up on our pool, they sent a bill and have yet to finish it! They keep telling me they'll be there, but long story short, I went to Leslies Pool and got the chemicals myself that it needed and am doing it. They are still charging me! They have charged me twice for the same service, their bills are not itemized, only stated as pool service, (which, by the way, we do not have). I cannot stress enough how TERRIBLE their service is! They good have the potential to be a good pool service but the technicians need to be more proactive with troubleshooting issues. It would be nice to be informed of possible issues upon service. Do not give them your business. Customer service over the phone was rude. Our original problem that started 8 months ago with broken filters is still yet to be resolved. The technician has been to our house 4 times to replace new filters that kept breaking. This fourth time instead of trying to keep our business they gave us excuses and tried to pass this problem back onto our insurance company even though the new filters that they installed was still under warranty. J&S Pools should be embarrassed about their dishonesty and lack of professionalism. read more

Poor Poor customer service. They don't return messages. We were not happy about a tall, 12 inch gas pipe sticking up in the middle of the backyard and they wouldn't move it although it is a huge tripping hazard. We are now going to have to pay someone else to move it because we are just done dealing with them. The rest of our backyard renovation will be going to another business. Well when I first went to J&S pools I had had other Pool services in the past. The last person before J &S was horrible and let my equipment run down and become destroyed. This property has a rental that I have and I cannot see the property every month. After looking high and low I found J & S Pool Service and have now had them for 11 years from the service techs to Jim the owner they're all terrific. We have had the best experience with J&S pools! We've been using them since we installed our pool 6-7 years ago. Our pool guy is the BEST- he's the only one who can get in the backyard with the dogs... he brings them treats & has made friends with them, which is so convenient for us! He's on top of anything needed with the equipment & makes the process of repair/replacement so easy. He lets us know if there's any additional maintenance that we need to take care of, & the office staff is as equally delightful to work with. I wouldn't think of using anyone else! read more

I found J & S and Leisure Living at the home show this year. I was so impressed with the way I was treated I did not go back to any of the other places I had visited. I was looking for a gas heated table and an outdoor fireplace. The price I got was very competitive and the quality was awesome. Not only did I received great service at the home show, they came to my house before I even had my items delivered to move a large island BBQ that I had bought years ago, to make room for my new purchase. They arrived with smiles and awesome help with getting my patio ready for what I had purchased. I went to a competitor on Tollhouse and was treated like I WAS LUCKY if they even talked to me. I could not get a quote until I begged(which was almost double the cost of J.& S) I cannot thank the team at J and S and Leisure Living enough for their kindness and the beautiful outdoor fireplace and table that I know I will enjoy for years to come. J & S and Leisure Living in Clovis are number 1 in my book, and I'm not easy to please! read more

We have a beautiful salt water pool. My husband maintains the pool and filter with precision. He is no dummy, as a matter of fact, he is an engineer, and designed the back yard. He was having trouble with salt levels and chose to take the cell over to J&S. We had bad experiences with them over the years.... but he gave them one last shot... and again they present themselves as prideful, and quite rude to my husband... J&S always presents themselves as know it all's. That attitude is just not going to fly with people who are looking for earnest, humble and likable people for support. Wish we could put zero stars. This company is terrible. They don't respond quickly to any request for service. They give you a quote and don't stick to the quote. When a service man comes out. He leaves immediately without any explanation of what is wrong or what they're going to do. When you call the office, you will get the run around. Finally you get pissed off and visit the office. We love J&S pool service! They are super quick at getting us on their schedule if we have an issue with our pool. Also, I have gone in to the store several times for water testing. They are so quick and always have great advice on how I can care for my pool. I used to go to Leslie pools on Shepherd and Chestnut and wait FOREVER for my water to be tested, but not anymore! Office girls need to learn the definition of customer service(Susan?) Rude and argumentative. We've had to make many, many calls over the years. Our pool service tech would come, hardly clean the pool talk on the phone EVERY TIME the WHOLE time. Would tell my dogs to shut up( granted they barked) however their dogs and that's what their supposed to do. To get anything done right (the lead tech I believe) would have to come out and do what our pool tech should have done. EVERY TIME. Complained many times the pool sweep wasn't working( how our pool tech didn't observe this I don't know) had the lead tech out again and it had a broken part for months, hence why the pool sweep wasn't working. So some how our pool tech left our pool dirty thinking it was normal? I would never suggest this company to anyone. If anything I would steer them away from this company. I will say the lead guy that comes out gets the job done. Anyone I've I came into contact with otherwise(office) (pool tech) need to be retaught how to properly do their job. Not to mention our pool tech(ken) never put our lock back on out get although being asked many many times read more

They explained everything in detail from start to finish. My was green and within less than 24 hours, my pool was clear and ready to swim in. THE WORST! Lots of debris left on the bottom of our pool after tree trimming. Their guy skimmed the surface and left. I cleaned up the debris, tried to start the skimmer and found it is broken. We weren't notified or given the courtesy of advice. My call to Jim (the J of J & S?) was met with a rude response that they don't clean the bottom. Apparently they don't brush the sides, check the equipment or render what would qualify as even mediocre service. Their "NON-SERVICE" will now cost us a lot of money. As far as being knowledgeable about pool equipment and how it all operates I found them to be less then up to par. We were forced to use them for our home warranty on our pool and we paid 75 bucks to have them come out and figure out what was wrong with our pool. After all was said and done. We bought two parts that we didn't need and it did not correct the problem. So we called them back again and they said that it was going to be 125 bucks for them to diagnose the problem even though we had already paid 75 for a home warranty. They were very rude and didn't care about making the customer happy. I will never never call them again. I called one of their competitors on the phone and spoke to the representative and they were more than happy to give me some suggestions on what the problem might be and just by doing that I found out what the problem was so you know I will never use J and s pools again read more

As the other one star reviews state, the owner is extremely rude and they did not show up for scheduled appointments. I took the morning off to be home to discuss the problem with the tech and he no-showed. When I called to follow up and tell them I was off work and at home waiting, the attitude of the response was "oh well". Then I was asked why I needed to be there with the tech anyway. I stated because I would like to discuss the issue with the tech specifically and see what he was going to do to fix it, I have that right. I was told I didn't need to be there and they would get a tech out sometime and the tech would call when there. I received a call from the tech AFTER he left my house stating that the filter pump turned on and was fine. THAT WASN'T THE REASON FOR THE SERVICE CALL. I communicated the issue to them THREE DIFFERENT TIMES. When I asked him on the phone if he was still at my home he stated no and that he can't wait around because he has work to do. Yea, kind of like me taking the morning off of work and waiting around for the no show appointment, I guess I can wait around but they can't. Rude and inconsiderate...DO NOT USE!!!! read more

Run the opposite way from this company. They are horrible. I had my pool tiles cleaned and it was my first time so I didn't know what to expect. I admit this was my mistake for not asking what to expect from a POOL company. I just assumed they knew what they were doing. When you spend $500 to have your tile cleaned, you expect it to get cleaned and your pool to look the same way before they cleaned the tile. The tile was cleaned, however, the pool itself had sand/glass in it and no information on whether to run the equipment or not that night. No call or note to let me know if they were done or not. My pool sweep has never been the same. Although, they claimed it was fine-when they sent the expert out. I have NEVER been so disappointed in a company like J & S Pool & Spa Service. The service techs were very nice in person but varied quite a bit in work ethic. I have a home warranty for a year and my spa leaks. They came out, did a repair of a leaky fitting, but I found the spa still leaks, so am guessing either the repair leaks or (surprise) another fitting leaks. The guy with the most experience quickly found the first leak, so I was hoping he'd come back out. They sent a younger guy who clearly didn't want to work. He was ready to to say it wasn't leaking without actually looking. I had to tell him that the other guys actually took a panel off to investigate the leak... His reluctance to do so was very much on display but he took a panel off, did some very light digging, didn't see water and was ready to leave. I then had to tell him, well there are 2 more panels, maybe it's on the back...,like pulling teeth....he took the back off and couldn't find it, and that was it. I felt like offering him a soak after all that work, but I'm not convinced that the leak is not where he looked, and it certainly could be where the repair is too. He apparently went back and reported there is no leak, so I called warranty again, they sent a diff company just for 2nd opinion. They confirmed there is a leak....next thing I know warranty company says it's not covered, case closed. Wtf? I should have probably called j&s right away but honestly I'm very busy and don't feel like dealing with it (and yes phone lady is rude). I'll just keep adding water weekly and find some other company when I need to. Oh and if you have any minimal skills, do NOT waste your $$ on a warranty. I only did because it was part of the deal buying the house. read more

I hired J &S pool service to do a clean up on my pool that had gone green May 5-6th and they were set to come out Monday the 9th but showed up Tuesday the 10th. They showed up a day late so the first day I wasn't home when the tech came out. I spoke to him when he came back out Thursday I believe. He said that it might be best to drain the pool versus shock (this is after he already treated it Tuesday with chemicals which I was being charged for) it but I asked if we could just shock it and have it cleaned up from there? He said we could, so I went with it thinking we could. After all, they are the professional, they would tell me to drain or have my pool shocked and vacuumed out if needed right? They came out and treated the pool with chemicals that week and let the pump run without the filters in it (although the tech thought they were in lol). I had them removed, cleaned and was waiting for the water to be blue to have them put back in. It wasn't until the following week where he said (what do you mean there are no filters in the pool). He said that the green pool would turn blue and clear once the filters were put back in. Friday the 13th he said it should clear/blue by morning. It never got clear. He said they would probably have to be cleaned a couple times (Keep in mind it's $85 a cleaning). They were charging $150 for the cleanup fee to get the pool back to blue. I gave them a card to keep on file but asked them to inform me of all charges other than a normal monthly service fee in the future. The 2nd week came and the pool was still green again he put more chemicals in and this time put the clean filters in. Thursday May 19th he came but I had texted him earlier that day asking when the pool would be blue, telling him the pool needed to be swept and chemicals added (why I'm having to tell him this I don't know)? May 20th he put the pool sweep back in and give me a price on the cleaning. He said it would be $150 with 2 filter cleanings of $85 each. He told me my monthly service charge would not start until June. By end of the next day the filters were full and he came out on Saturday to clean them and put them back in. The pool was still green and the filters filled right back up. During this time I had calls into the office and also sent a text pic of my green pool to my tech showing him it was still green on Sunday. Monday he asked me how it was going and I sent him the picture of the green pool. He didn't make it by until Thursday when he texted me he was there but I didn't respond until a few minutes later and he had already taken off. Keep in mind plenty of people home had he even knocked on the door. I had called the office Wed. and spoke with Tammy and Carly & I explained how I wasn't happy about the pool still being green. I explained that I didn't want to be charged anymore because it had been 3 weeks and they kept letting the pool relapse by not staying on top of it etc. I expected a professional pool company to have it blue in 3 weeks, this is what they do. Tammy was supposed to get back to my Thursday and the tech was suppose to call when he came. She never called, he never called. At this point I was done. I took time dated stamped photos of the very green pool which looked pretty close to what it did originally and sent an email explaining my sincere disappointment, wanted to come together with a final bill and stop all further services. I ran to Lowes that night and grabbed shock and pulled the very full filters back out and let it cycle that night. I than went to Pool Mart in Clovis who is amazing and they rented me a pump to suck out all the algae that was never going to be able to be pulled through the filters without destroying them and bought 2 gal. of chlorine to put in after. I called Friday to settle the large bill (even though my pool was pretty much in the same condition as 3 weeks ago) and spoke with Jim S., the owner. Jim, is one of the most unprofessional people I have ever met. Never once did he say, "what can I do to make you happy" or "resolve the situation." That was me trying to, I was't even mad, just wanted to be done! We came to an agreement over the phone but he only would take a credit card or debit and after everything I wasn't about to give them that. I told him I would drop a check in the mail and he insisted I had to then come in and pay before the end of day or all the charge would be put back on. He was rude and disrespectful over the phone and blamed me for the pool being green. So I went and got cash and went in. I discussed the bill with Bryan (manager) and even asking them to have my bill ready had to wait about 5-10minutes for them to finalize it. The owner, Jim, went back on the amount and was still overcharging me. When I said that I had been lied to over the phone, Jim came flying into the office got in my face as I was sitting in the chair yelling at me. I just wanted out so I paid it and left almost shaking. He would never had done that to a man read more

I'm giving them two stars because when we first started using them they did a great job of getting a pool back to swimming condition (after it had been neglected for a few months). BUT, now, they charge a lot and really don't do anything other than add chemicals to our pool and spa. I checked our spa a few months ago and found that it was green and gross. Not once did our tech say anything to me about the problem. Apparently, the power had gone out (a few months prior to me looking at the spa) and all the guy did was keep adding chemicals! Then, I just looked at our pool (a week agao) and the water level was WAY down, and again NO ONE told me there was a problem! The guy just comes, adds chemicals...spits sunflower seeds all around the pool, then leaves. For the cost, the quality should be much better. Luckly, we are in escrow and selling that property so we wont have to deal with them much longer! But if we weren't selling that house I would have fired them already! I don't recom'd this company. read more

J&S Pools has some very shady ways of doing business. I needed 600 feet XHHW 10 gauge solid copper wiring to replace original wiring that had shorted. They used existing underground conduit. All they did was pull wire and connect. When I asked the technician for a cost, he said, "The office will bill you." The bill came to $600. Initially they did not itemize the charge, but did so after I wrote them. They charged .50 per foot; two $50 trip charges (approximately 35 minutes one way); and $125 per hour for a tech who is NOT a licensed electrician, accompanied by an assistant to help pull wire. When asked to name their wiring distributor so I could verify the high cost of wire, they refused. I now discover that other electricians charge $85 per hour. When I said their rate was excessive considering the tech was not a certified electrician they claimed they called others who do electrical work and the $125 per hour was about right. When I asked them to name who they called, they refused again. J&S Pools has some very unethical business procedures. I will never use them again. read more

We have used this pool service since 2004 (approx) and have very few times been happy with the service for the amount of money it cost us each month. The latest problem has been our pool sweep. It had stopped going to the shallow end of the pool, hence the shallow end was always green and dirty. They said they fixed it in November '09 but it still did not clean the shallow end. They continued to "clean" the pool each week but did not "see" that the shallow end remained dirty. We pointed it out several times and the pool tech said he would fix it. At last, the whole pool turned green but the pool tech said he did not have any "shock" on his truck but would bring it with his next visit. I called the owner to ask him to do something in a more timely manner; he said he would try but did not do anything. At my wits end, I call another pool company for an estimate for service and I'm glad I did. He spent 30 min cleaning the pool and, without replacing any parts, the pool sweep now cleans both ends. AMAZING! So out with J&S. This new fellow also cleans my filters for free, cleans leaves out in the fall free and sweeps the bottom of the pool for free (J&S said they would charge me an extra $75 to sweep the bottom of the pool since the pool sweep wasn't working). read more

Horrible pool service/repair!! Used them for the summer, fall and following winter with no problems, but had my pool drained and cleaned and that is when the problems started. When they drained it, they had holes in their piping and it flooded my entire side of my yard. Then when they hooked it up to fill, they left it on for days, without checking on it. Good thing I was in town that weekend, otherwise my whole yard would have flooded. They didn't put away my garden hose after they used it. My yard was a mess!! They my pool motor went out, and had them replace it. I don't think they used new parts, because it started leaking all over the equipment area. I called and complained, and they broke something else. Now, the pressure monitor leaks and I found they had put tape on it the other day!!! Had the heating element replaced, and now it doesn't even regulate the heat. Went to get into it the other night and it was scalding.. had the temp set at 97, but my floating thermometer said it was 107!!! When I went into the office to discuss the issues, they didn't even apologize. I don't want them back.. changed the padlock on my gate. read more
