First time visiting J & S Recycling and had a great experience. This location on Yelp brought me to a market, but the actual location is behind the market, so keep driving around the back. A friendly staff person saw that I looked lost and helped me understand the process. Basically you separate your items (aluminum cans, plastic, glass) in the empty receptacles. They'll weigh it for you, you'll sign a piece of paper and then they will give you cash. Pros: -friendly staff -quick process -cash in hand Cons: -none

Located right behind Carnival Market, J & S Recycling Center is super quick in taking our items. There are a few parking spots right up front (I think about 3 to 4 spots) but like I said, they are super quick, as long as you have your items sorted. Rates for refund ain't bad, either. Now, time to get some grub! ;-)

There used to be a lot more recycling centers around San Diego. I feel in the past 10 years, a lot of ones have closed down or locations aren't very convenient to get to during the week. I have been to this location in the past, but it has been a couple of years where I needed to recycle cans or plastic. I managed to leave right after work and get to this location before it closed at 4:30 pm. There were 3 young men working there, they were all very helpful and polite. I recently got a can crusher so that makes things easier for transporting. I had about 2 garbage cans close to full (one for crushed aluminum and one for plastic) . I had about 25 glass bottles as well. I ended up with about $23. This place is so helpful being open on Saturdays. They are located in the alleyway behind the Carnival grocery store. You can always run in there afterwards to pick up some goodies. It's always good to make note of the hours since Google or Yelp is not always up to date. I have posted the recent information in the photos. 5/5: service Ambiance: 4/5 Food: N/A

Changed Saturday's hours to 3:30 but didn't update the website. Spent half hour lugging all these bottles to my car because there website said they were still open.

Covid review #32 ( in retrospect) Friendly. Fast. Clean This made recycling easy. From the friendly call to the plentiful separation cans on wheels, this recycling place will be on my list of returning to.

I brought 5 10 gallon trash bags full of cans and plastic yesterday. They were quick to provide me with bins to use and I was in and out in less then 15 minutes!

Recycling Center open Tuesday to Saturday 9am-4:30pm. Closed for lunch 12:30-1pm. Closed Sunday and Monday.

Lots of people selling cans etc. But staff is efficient and it's not a bad wait unless there's trucks full of recycling to sell

Quick and easy to get recyclables turned in. Faster if you have everything pre sorted before arriving.

This company is ripping people off because there isn't an alternative. I brought 350 pounds of…read moreextruded aluminum that was coated in chem film. It's not paint. The price difference is very different-they know it and play games. There isn't a sign that says you need an ID, but you do. I had a temporary license and they wouldn't accept it and I had to pull all the aluminum out of filthy trash cans after waiting 30 minutes in line.

I had a disposable helium tank to dispose of. I followed the manufacturer's instructions for…read moredisposal (completely emptied contents, removed spout, punctured hole into tank). The Allan Company is located just inside the road off Convoy that leads into the Miramar landfill. The lot is quite run down and there is little signage. There is a small bungalow with a window for you to speak with a teller. The lot had plenty of parking on a Friday afternoon. The Allan Company does not take helium tanks for disposal. I was told by an employee there that the tank I brought them would explode. I called the general city Environmental Services line and confirmed that the Allan Company does not take helium tanks (even empty) and that they have to be disposed of as hazardous waste. As someone who works with hazardous wastes and compressed gasses on a normal basis I am confused how an empty helium tank with a hole in the container wall could explode or be considered hazardous waste, but nonetheless I could not recycle it. Would be nice if their website specifically said they do not accept helium tanks for recycling.

It feels strange to write a review of a landfill, or "the dump" as we call it, but after our…read morerecent visit, I had a few things that I wanted to share. Now, I have been to the landfill with my husband a few times over the years, usually when we have furniture to get rid of that is too damaged to see or donate. Our most recent visit was about two weeks ago. Our old patio furniture was disintegrating, and we had discolored cushions to get rid of. We tried to figure our a less bothersome or costly way to get rid of it, but, alas, we ended up at the landfill. The first thing we noticed was that the price was increased to $69 for cars and pickups. I thought that was super expensive, a large increase from our previous visit. Anyway, the landfill, as you may imagine, it massive. The roads are mostly dirt roads once you get inside. They are hilyl, have speed bumps and ditches. They also wet the roads to keep the dust from being a problem, so we ended up driving through water. You have to watch the signs carefully to figure out where to go. Once we got to to the area to unload, it was unclear where to go. The signs directed us one way, but the other people were unloading on the other side of the mounds of trash. My husband opted to follow the others, which is lucky, as we otherwise would have gotten in the way of the work trucks. At first, the people directing us to unload were no help at all. We had to guess where to pull up. Later, one guy came by and told us that we could just drop the items at the end of the truck and didn't need to move it our into the pile. That was helpful, as we then unloaded very quickly. My husband had lamented that he often ends up with flat tires after going to this landfill. Sure enough, a few days later, he found a screw lodged in his tire. It really could have come from anyway, but that is a rough road and there is lots of junk near the unloading area. I would not recommend going unless you have a truck, as there is no way my car would have made it. All in all, going to the dump is never fun. However, sometimes you just have no other ways to get rid of stuff.
