We were very happy with this place. Very good fresh shrimp from an honest shop. We will definitely buy from them again!

Katie's Seafood Market - Where my shrimp came from

Katie's Seafood Market in Galveston is an amazing place if you want truly fresh Gulf seafood. You…read morecan literally see the fishing boats coming in with the daily catch, which makes the whole experience feel authentic and local. The seafood is incredibly fresh--shrimp, fish, and everything else tastes like it just came straight from the ocean. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to help you pick the best options. The market is clean, well organized, and the quality is outstanding. If you're in Galveston and love seafood, this place is a must-visit. It's one of the best spots on the island to experience real, fresh Gulf seafood!

I am thrilled to have stumbled upon this cozy locally owned seafood market. The staff at the front…read moreof the store is incredibly helpful and friendly. We got to witness the workers in the back bring in fresh Red Snappers directly from the boat into the store. It feels good knowing we are buying and supporting local. I'm already planning to become a regular despite the 90 minute drive. I bought three types of fish, two of each: Red Snapper, Striped Bass, and Flounder. I requested that they filet the Red Snappers, while the other four were left to be just cleaned (scaled, cut, and rinsed). It was well packaged. They even put ice in the bag for my long trip back. Excellent, excellent, excellent service. Next time a long with fresh fish, I will get blue crab and shrimp. Note: They are right around the corner from Katie's Seafood House.

I was scoping out fish mongers for when I come back to Galveston on business. I love red fish but…read morehaven't had the time to go fishing myself. I stopped by both Sampson & Sons. They were getting ready to close early due to an appointment but took the time to talk with me. They showed me their fish and shrimp, explained their process and answered all of my questions. All of the fish were clear eyed and had no discernible odor... all good signs of freshly caught fish. I will be back to Galveston next week and plan on stopping at Sampson to get red fish, my favorite fish. I visited another market next door, but the personal attention just wasn't there for me. They were nice, but Sampson's really knocked it put of the park for me by staying, explaining the process, and offering to fillet my fish for me free of charge. Someone who will take the time to show a stranger around, even when they have an appointment, is someone I wish to do business with. Upon my return, I'll take photos and review the fish its self. On customer service and appearance of fish alone, I give Sampson 5 stars.

The "son" of the Sampson & Sons, Milton, is so damn sexy. He's worth the trip alone. Their seafood is also way better than Katie's. Katie's is terrible and they source all of their seafood from farms, whereas Sampson's gets theirs fresh caught same-day. Your only source for seafood. Don't go to Mondo Burger across the street (Katie's).
