I can't say enough about this place. The seafood is so fresh, the prices very reasonable, the staff wonderful. Today I picked up a nice large flounder and had it filleted, five pounds of gulf head on shrimp, and some beautiful jumbo lump crab meat. Take the drive and make it a lunch outing as well. Ok so I went there at 1pm on Good Friday which in hindsight probably was not the best idea! It was so busy BUT they are pretty organized with how they run things. You have the shrimp cases on one side, the fresh on another and during crawfish season they have a separate side for that. The folks behind the counter are helpful but take some time to know what you want before you order. This will help everything move along much faster. If you order whole fish you can have it cleaned and cutthere! They'll remove skin and bones too. But if you prefer to clean it yourself that's an option as well. Lots of shrimp options, they've even got clams! There's a frozen section I didn't get to but I saw someone had octopus!! Please also try your stay off your phone when you're at the front of the line to check out. It's a two way dance to make things run smooth you know? It's time for an update of my review. I haven't been to Rose's seafood market for several years. But, I wanted to get out of houston for a weekend, and going here was the best way to kick off my weekend. I do have to say that driving here was not a fun task. Construction still hasn't been completed on TX-146 and the exit to get to Rose's is very quick and super tight. Their parking lot is a decent size, but also kind of tight. Inside the market, there's tons of fresh seafood to choose from. There's fish, shrimp, crawfish, clams, scallops, etc. As far as COVID-19 precautions go, most people were wearing masks. A few were not. The staff here was rude and didn't acknowledge us when we waved them down to purchase seafood. We came here twice. The first trip was to purchase head on shrimp and clams for a seafood boil while we stayed in Galveston. The shrimp and clams were just ok. They didn't have that sweetness of seafood we were hoping for. So, I wouldn't recommend getting the shrimp or clams. The second trip was on our way back home. We purchased red snapper, flounder, and scallops this time. When we brought them home, we steamed and pan fried the snappers, pan fried the flounders, and sautéed the scallops. Man, the second time's the charm. Everything was delicious! Brimming of the sweetness of seafood in every bite, with the use of just minimal, but aromatic ingredients. The scallops only needed oil for sautéing for 3 minutes total. It didn't even need salt. It was seasoned by the ocean! Soooo good! The fish and scallops were definitely worth the drive down here. My tummy was happy. Overall, the seafood is fresh. It's just certain seafood items were better in my opinion than others. It's worth checking out. Just be prepared for rude customer service. Oh, and bring your own cooler, and they will pack the seafood and ice for you. PS - They can also scale your fish and cut the fins and gills off if you request them to do it. read more

We have been buying seafood from Roses since the early 80s. Everything is always fresh. They have deveined jumbo shrimp, crab claws, scallops, lump crabmeat just to name few things. Additionally they have precut fish as well as whole fresh fish that they will dress for you. They also have a great frozen area with things you cannot find any where else. We have bought frozen conch, large lobsters, calamari steaks, Alaskan king crab, and clams and mussels in shell, The service is pleasant and prompt, and the ambiance is that of a well cared for fish market. I bought a sack of crawfish on Tuesday. Had some that night and noticed quite a few were dead. 24 hrs later I was rushing through what I had instead of three days as planned, trying to eat as much as I could before they all died. I also noticed that they were kinda slimy as well. By the end of the sack, with no exaggeration about a 3rd of them died within a days time and yes I know how to keep crawfish, as much as 4 days before. I had a good portion of the dead in the freezer so they wouldn't stink up the house and as you can see in the pic a 8 qt pot full of uncooked dead crawfish. In one day? NOT GOOD. Of course only one day return policy and NO RETURN on live seafood.Had a similar problem with freshness with their shrimp. So strong I couldn't eat it unless I soaked it in milk first. Their policy is a joke and absolutely useless if you live in Houston. 100 mile roundtrip if you wanted to try a return. My advice is to try someplace closer. It's not worth the headache unless you live closer. read more

I went to Rose's early on probably the busiest day of the year for them....July 3rd. It was packed, but they had their lines moving in extraordinary fashion. However, later in the day, when I started to clean the shellfish I bought, I found I was missing my clams. I went back, now about 4:30, and the ladies tried to help me, but unfortunately, they didn't have any bags that were left behind. They did however go back into the freezer and get 4 more for me to buy. They asked me for my name and number, and promised to call, if the sales tape at the end of the day did not match. Well, lo and behold, they called (Sam), and reviewed it, and could see that I did receive the clams, so it was a problem on my end. I searched everywhere, and of course found them in the back of the refrigerator........my mistake !!!!! Needless to say we went heavy on the clams on the 4th ....LOL I just wanted to write this to let them know that I thought not only are they running an excellent operation, but the customer service went above and beyond. It's so fresh national geographic could've taken pictures here. Maybe a bit of an exaggeration...but when you can see the ocean from the store you figure it'll be good. While not a seafood connoisseur, it tasted extraordinarily fresh to me, or it was the placebo of thinking it was. Either way works. You get plenty of options available to you here with some live seafood like crawfish, pre packaged filets, frozen items, and whole fish. The staff is very helpful with cleaning the whole fish like you like it, and any questions you have they can help you win. I bought 2 lbs of red snapper for 6.99/lb, so not too bad. Octopus I bought 5.8lbs one at a pretty cheap price compared to the local one that i had purchased before (Was about $13.99 at the local seafood market). cooked and found there were a number of small and large blisters on the body and legs. It eventually became much smaller that when it was frozen. Thin legs like a 2lbs one, was too chewy like a rubber. Threw it (almost $30) to the trash can. read more

I was surprised to see "sushi grade" red snapper (a favorite fish) and so I bought 6 flash frozen (perfectly!) cleaned and prepped filets. No kidding, they were so fresh-no smell whatsoever. I made ceviche (cut up the frozen fish with no problem, it defrosted in the lime juice) and it resulted in some of the best ceviche I and my family have ever had! I have been here 4 or 5 times. I like coming here. I have visited most of the other seafood wholesalers (without purchase) on the street but for whatever reason, I just like the vibe from Rose's. The others have the same or relatively similar prices. Some sell certain fish that the other doesn't. But here is why I like Rose's: 1) It's clean 2) Fresh fish (best to come in the morning when their shipment for the day comes in and the fish has clear eyes, not cloudy or semi-cloudy eyes) 3) Good customer service in person and over the phone. They are more than welcome to answer any questions you have. Like seriously! (I like to ask questions) 4) They have some chairs if you need to sit down. 5) They have an elevator 6) They will give you as much ice as you want Some downsides are: 1) Not all the fish is Wild-caught (much more healthier) and as one reviewer said, it would be VERY helpful if they labeled which ones are. But you can always ask. 2) Would also be nice if they listed where their products come from (but most people don't care). Found out they can stuff the fish with crabmeat if you request it. And of course, they will cut, clean, gut the fish any way you desire. read more
