I've been going to Hillmans since I was a little girl. What I remember most was the fresh whole fish on ice and the candy bars. In this day and age ease, convenience and simplicity is a must. I had a HEB pickup order where I could have easily added shrimp to the cart and had everything I needed in one stop. I always try to support local if I can, and today's experience with Hillmans reminds me why I do that. I did not know that I needed to keep shrimp on ice even if it was immediately placed in the fridge. Today when I brought dinner to cook at my dad's it was said the shrimp had a potent smell. I looked at the clock and it was 5:35 and I knew they had closed at 5:30. I called and thankfully someone answered. I explained the issue and when asked if I had them on ice, I was truthful and said no (because I did not know) but they were always kept in the fridge (it had been about 24 hours). Escalating the story, they allowed me to bring them back for them to check (even when they were closed),and agreed they were bad (because I made the mistake- not them!!!) and they gave me fresh shrimp. I did feel bad about it but I was fortunate they took care of me. I will never not go to Hillmans. They run a hard working family business and I will always purchase my seafood from them. We recently started coming here to buy fresh shrimp. When I say fresh, I mean fresh. They were still swimming a few hours ago. This is not your read the fine print behind the glass in the meat department previously frozen variety. You can buy it heads on (cheapest per lb) or headless, and/or already deveined. Even if you are buying it already cleaned and deveined, it is still cheaper than what it is at the grocery store. Most of the time, I pay a little bit more and buy headless. I do so because I want a more accurate weight on the amount we actually get to eat. In addition, Thursday through Saturday they make their own shrimp coleslaw. It is delicious. They make it fresh and they will sell out every day. I highly suggest you buy some if they have it. It is delicious. On a total side note, many times they also have fresh crab. They will pack your shrimp in ice if you need to drive back across town to get home. They do not ship to out-of-town addresses. They do take cash and credit cards. I do not know if they take checks (who still uses those anyway?). Bottom line - Fresh shrimp and crab sold by the pound at a variety of prices. Not previously frozen shrimp but really fresh. I highly recommend Hillman seafood if you're looking for fresh shrimp. You really can taste the difference. Bon appétit. read more

My friends and I flew to Houston and had only two things on our mind; oysters and crawfish. For our oyster craving we went to a few seafood wholesale stores and Hillman's had the freshest and cheapest oysters. For a large sack weighing about 100 pounds it only cost $60. A large sack fed 8 people was way more than enough. I think we only ate about 20 pounds out of the hundred. We preferred grilling it with melted parmesan cheese/butter and with a sweet and spicy ginger dipping sauce. The oysters were so freaking good! It was sweet, tender, meaty and fresh. The gulf shrimps were also huge and only $7 per pound. We've never eaten big shrimps before and it was meaty and easy to peel. My friends and I wished we could take some oysters back home in our luggage because it was that good! read more

Not only is their seafood directly off the boats outside, prices are VERY fair and shrimp are a great bargain! We drove an hour and a half to get to them and it was absolutely worth the drive. We let the visit family before returning to fortunately were on 20 minutes away when we receive a call telling us we had left our credit card. They had closed but can back to meet us. I went here for bait at about 5:30 a.m. they had what I was looking for which was live Croaker!! Got two dozen for one dollar a piece. The people working there are extremely nice and helpful. Croaker can be hard for find but this place had plenty!! If you fish and need live bait this is where I would go and where I will be going from now on. I can't say anything about the food since I didn't eat here obviously but I am willing to give it a try. If the service is the same inside as it was getting live bait, it's should be great. i love this place because its been there since i grew up in san leon in the early 60s. but someone needs to get off the phone, i trying to check stock on a large shrimp order and the phone has been busy for over 30 minutes. come call them back or text them, people need their shrimp......lol. I have lived in league city Friendswood area my whole life. Have bought shrimp from hillmans before but throughout my life ive gone to Seabrook out of convienence. Then i recently realized the shrimp wasn't the freshest and some things they had out couldn't even be caught around here.... Hillmans is fresh caught shrimp from the gulf. Ok so this is a family run place where you can buy some great fresh shrimp. This company has been in business for many many years so that should tell you something. It is right on Dickinson Bayou and the shrimp boats pull up right out back. Inside it is very small and offers pretty much just local caught shrimp. Sure they have some oysters and a few fresh caught fish but not a lot. You can buy with the head on and they will then remove them for you as long as it is no a huge amount. For a large order I would call ahead. I bought 50 lbs for myself with the heads removed and these were 18 to 21 count and where firm and fresh caught the night before(they had some right off the boat minutes ago but only with heads on and I was not wanting to dehead 50 lbs of shrimp later). The place does not smell and the folks there are super nice. There was a small boy walking around and we chatted. He just got in from shrimping with his dad and he goes out with him every day. If you are looking for shrimp this is the place to go. I like it much better than the Seabrook shrimp markets because I feel the shrimp are fresher. I also know that a lot of shrimp in Seabrook is brought in from other areas. Buy some shrimp slaw while you are at it because it if famous for being good and it is. read more

Hillmans has been located down there on Dickinson Bayou probably longer than most can remember. Fresh caught shrimp from their own boats can't be beat and the prices are spot on. For you fishermen and ladies you can get live bait just behind the seafood market. Friend picked up a couple of quarts last weekend and the guy that brought them out to the boat mentioned that if he didn't use all of them fishing he could take them home and eat them. They were that big and just the right size for some nice specks and reds.
