It comes with amazing homemade sauce (cocktail or tartar), however it does not need any sauce bc the garlic butter Parmesan seasoning is amazing. We also love the coconut shrimp & the sauce is equally delicious! Shrimp coleslaw is good too. A little pricy for the size, but you do get a shrimp in every bite so 100% worth a try if you haven't had it before. This is definitely a hidden gem in Galveston! I finally stopped by after passing it so many times on the way to the beach--and I'm so glad I did. Good day folks! Visiting my son at Houston we decided to spend a day at Schlitterbahn Galveston we had a great time and now to find a place to eat. And if you are at the coast- then some seafood is a must!! And after some water fun - Fried Shrimp was the call DSS popped up on our GPS and we stopped in put in our order (took 45 mins to get our food shame on you guys - that gives you a one star) But we are on vacation and the spirit is light and the goal is to enjoy. Shrimp flavor choices, there were about 6 all sounded amazing. Special was Toasted Texas Pecan and my first try. Amazing! Others tried in our group Garlic Parmesan, Plain, Coconut. Everyone enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed the Pecan! Hush puppies were flavorful and just a touch of spice, order of fries huge! (We each got an order but one would have been enough for all 4 of us). We even stopped on our home and each got orders to take home and have for dinner! The shrimp are huge and fresh. The Pecan and Coconut came with an apricot chili dip the was delicious! The guy working (said he was there til 3 Daily) was friendly and fun to talk to and banter with. My family and I were looking for a quick and delicious meal on the go as we left Schlitterbahn. Darlene's showed up in my Yelp food. It was exactly what I envisioned for good seafood in Galveston. We ordered the ten piece shrimp plate, plus crab legs and seasoned fries. Shrimp - garlic Parmesan naked (no breading). - these were good, although I had to access the residual garlic Parmesan sauce in the container to amp up the flavor. Crab legs - very fresh. I also added garlic parmesan to these. Fries - seasoned, fairly good. We'll likely be back when we visit Galveston to try more shrimp flavors. Also, the Service we received was prompt and friendly. Darlene is now the only place in Galveston that serves actual jumbo shrimp. Darlene's Shrimp Shack is ALWAYS the first place I stop at when going to Galveston, and I have ALWAYS been served excellent shrimp.......until the last time on February 8, 2025. The shrimp wasn't anywhere close to what I've come to expect at Darlene's. It tasted like it had been refrozen numerous times, it was very greasy, and it was obviously something other than Texas Gulf Coast shrimp. I did notice that their sign doesn't say that their shrimp is actually from Texas or from the Gulf of America. It tasted to me, though, like maybe it's now coming from the Gulf of Tonkin in Vietnam.......seriously! Y'all have done great there on 61st Street for quite a long time, and I hope this was just a one-time hiccup, and not because you've started buying "crap" farm raised shrimp from God knows where. Well I did it- first time to drop by and order her shrimp. Prior to the order, I drove all around the island to find decent seafood and 3 restaurants are permanently closed now. So I did it, I was going to go to Randall's and buy frozen or make fresh but just too much work. Instead I'd give Darlene a try, I'm not much into food trailers. From Austin to Houston I've never got into it. As you can see, shrimp only and big ones and she does flavor her shrimp but I'm a plain Jane kind of woman.
