Our behaviorist veterinarian sent us a list of acceptable dog trainers for our dog who was at one time a wonderful little guy. But after being attacked by much larger dog, he was suffering from PTSD. We chose j-canine as we liked the look of the facility. We were so lucky to get Martine as our personal trainer. Our boy has made significant progress in just 3 visits we have had with Martine. She teaches him what he needs to know and provides videos for me to watch and detailed instructions, and off we go. Between the lessons she gives us and our boy, the instructions, and the videos she recommends and my work with him, I am so much more confident in my interactions with him and so much more capable of helping him. My husband and I are thrilled and amazed with the progress he has made in such a short time. We feel we are very close to having our precious, loving little guy back. Do not waste your time or money with J Canine. We showed up on a rainy day for a board and train evaluation, only to find that the trainer wasn't even aware of the purpose of our visit. My dog was understandably wet and nervous from the weather, and rather than taking the time to evaluate her properly, the trainer quickly labeled her as "not trainable" and emphasized how "expensive" their program is. She also suggested medicating my dog -- after barely interacting with her. Yes, my dog was nervous in a new place, but that's exactly why we were seeking help. Instead of showing patience or professionalism, the trainer was dismissive and made a snap judgment that couldn't have been more wrong. Honestly, I'm glad her poor attitude and lack of professionalism were apparent early on -- it saved me from wasting more time after driving an hour to get there. read more

To be up front, it's been a while since we used them. To start, we boarded our cats here regularly. One was a tuxedo cat and the other a bengal-tabby mix. The bengal was a cat-cat, a plain ol' cat, nothing but cat, and J-Canine "got" him. I appreciated that they understood the old man very much. Our dog was a different story. She was a MinPin-Lab mix, picked up as a stray at about 6 months of age. It was during her stay she decided to become a junk yard dog. It was strongly hinted that she might kinda, sorta not ever be welcome back. They were professional about it, which in turn helped us make informed choices regarding her care, socialization, and visits to the vet going forward. (Fortunately for the dog, I no longer had to travel on business, so that worked out well.) To summarize, I found J-Canine to be professional, and honest in their assessment of our pets' behaviors and needs. read more

I don't advise using this boarder/trainer especially if you have a special needs pet. Instead of talking and working with us on our pet, they would pass notes which I considered poor communication and adolescent. Very quick to give up if they feel they have received the bulk of your money. Couldn't leave 0 stars so left at 1. read more

I really can't say anything bad about the facility itself and bummed I had to write this. We were super excited to try this place based off of the great reviews and emailing with the trainer. Unfortunately, our one year old doodle was 'accepted with conditions' because our dog doesn't have an eating schedule. She is unable to train him without that. We get it. We have done our research and understand that is crucial to his success. We were grateful for her honesty. Thankful for the one day evaluation and the facility looked awesome. My issue isn't that we need to do that- it was the delivery of his report card. I had a gob in my throat as we stood there listening to her. It was so rude. I felt like an absolute awful dog parent. I left so sad. We were told he's extremely behind, nervous, and were given comments like 'yup, that's why your breeder won't call you back', and 'you can have a perfect litter and one is just off'... you get the point. We just wanted to get our boy some help, which we will, but this won't be the place even after he is on his food schedule. It's my personal opinion, but I feel that if someone is interested in your facility and your training, something that isn't cheap- it should be discussed in a more friendly, positive manner. I don't see why he was approved when it was apparent (to me) she didn't want him there. read more

This was my first time leaving Babe. I was so afraid of leaving her to anyone but a family member. She had to stay with J-canine for 4days. I had taken a tour a week ahead of her stay. I needed to make sure she was going to be taken care of. I'm very happy she stayed here, my babe is so full of joy! She had a wonderful stay and was groomed right before pick up. Babe is very spoiled and all her needs were met here at the Resort. Everyone was so nice and I'm sure Babe will be back again. read more

Took my two dogs to get groomed. Sadly disappointed. Poor grooming job on both even though I specifically asked for the cut I wanted for each. Quoted one price and then charged another. My dogs were not brought out to me prior to paying, but only after I paid which I thought was unusual, but I didn't complain since it was my first time there. After inspecting my dogs closely at home, I realized that paws and ears were still a bit yellow on one dog (apparently no thorough shampooing throughout), the ears were not plucked on the inside, fur on behind was not trimmed (standard for hygienic purposes) as accustomed to. This is pretty standard for a professional groomer. My other dog just looked odd and the list goes on, but I won't bore you with any more details. In addition, communicating with representative and myself by email afterwards was primarily, "next time I would get charged even more for each pet and send your CC info via email for the over charge. Right. Stay away from this place if you're looking for professional communication and grooming services. read more

If your pets are family and you want them treated as such, this is the place to board them. My dogs are always excited when we pull into J-Canine and love to see the front office staff and kennel techs when I drop them off. The owner, Joni, is kind-hearted and has such a love for all animals. After dropping off, I always feel at peace knowing they are well taken care of. There are several different choices of kennels-from indoor lodging to luxury indoor/outdoor suites. They also have "doggie daycare" for the more social dog. My dogs always come home smelling great after an "exit bath" before I pick them up. I've also used J-Canine obedience training for one of my stubborn, hard-headed rescue dogs. The trainer, Martine, was great! She was patient, thorough and honest about my dogs limitations (he was once a street dog). My dog did the board and train for 2 weeks and improved greatly. Martine has trained 3 of my friends dogs as well and everyone has been very pleased. Anytime someone asks for a recommendation for boarding and/or training, J-Canine is always #1. read more

Joni Huff has been a part of our "family" since 1997 when she helped us train one of our puppies. When she opened J-Canine Pet Resort a few years later, we were thrilled to have a place to leave our pets when we were out-of-town that combined the luxury of a pet spa with the attention and care of someone who truly knows about animal care. The place is very clean and neat. The staff is super friendly. Some may say it's a little pricey . When I arrived to pick up my dog we were greeted and got him quickly. He was very happy and looked great. I had him groomed and he looked very handsome. I didn't worry about him at all. Great place to bring your pet. read more

My dog and I took a training class with J Canine last year. I wanted to take additional training; however, I followed up with multiple emails but never received any information on subsequent classes. Neither my dog or I caused disruption, we were average students but I am disappointed that they kept putting me off on additional classes. What is going on? Not sure if anyone else has had this experience but if you want to take follow up classes after initial training you may want to consider going somewhere else. read more

The only place I would ever consider boarding my dog! They are really attentive & friendly & definitely love the animals. Grooming services are superb. Lots of services available to make everyone/every pet happy. They even post pet pics on FB. We were out of the country & could see our pup playing outside & enjoying his stay. We boarded our Bichon Poodle, Corton, for a week at J-Canine. Very friendly and loving staff. We were extremely satisfied with their service and rates!! Even got to see a pic of Corton on their FB page. Our kids absolutely loved this while we were on vacation. read more
