I like this J.Crew store in downtown New Haven. The store is a nice size, they carry men's and women's items. It is well stocked and presentable. I find that many other stores feel crammed. This one has a nice layout and is easy to navigate even on busy days. The employees are pleasant, and a few times they've offered to order me items they didn't have in stock. When in New Haven I recommend stopping at this J.Crew store. read more

The staff that work here are extremely rude and very unhelpful to patrons who DON'T look like them. I'm sure you can read between the lines. I've walked into this store plenty of times and only once have I been greeted and asked if I needed help with anything. I'd rather drive to Westfarms than visit this location which is around the corner from my home. read more

The sales people are generally knowledgeable and nice. The two older (over 35 in a sea of 22-25 year old employees) women are the best definitely. They know the store best and are incredibly helpful. There's a student discount also so bring your student ID. read more

This smallish, but conveniently located J. Crew is a mainstay of the Broadway "shopping district." They have a fairly good selection, although not everything, and most of the salespeople are helpful. My two favorite experiences ... 1. My boyfriend was trying on some pants which were way too short. There was a woman putting on make-up in front of the three-sided and she looked at him and said "honey, no." So he didn't get the pants. She was an employee. Now that's the sort of honesty I like. 2. I tried on a 00 (which is ridiculous, what does that even mean?) and I wanted to try on a 0 just for comparison and the lady helping me said "no." That's right: she said "no." I finally persuaded her to let me try them on and guess what? They fit. Yeah, take that. I give it three stars. What can I say? It's a J. Crew. It's nice, but I'm just not that excited about it. I moved from NY to New Haven some time ago. The J-Crew here is smaller, but the selection of clothes is ok. That being said, every single time I went in there with my fiancee I got the feeling the store clerks were generally dismissive of us - something that never happened in NY. There's something weird about New Haven and snobbery. While I was paying for my clothes the woman helping me out forgot about me for a few minutes as she started a conversation with another customer and the other store clerk, and only remembered she was helping me out when I decided to swipe my card and sign before she told me to. I get that I'm obviously a grad student who won't buy $500 worth of clothes each time I go in, but I don't think I should be treated dismissively either. read more

This J.Crew is smaller than the ones in New York but bigger than the ones in Boston, interestingly enough. Anyways, the staff is friendly enough, but not smothering and polite, which is great for me. The selection is usually varied and not picked over, but during sales, things can go quickly. The clothes are expensive and I can normally only afford them when I'm with my parents or using a student discount on a sale day etc. Regardless, I like their clothes. Not all of them, which have a tendency to border on gaudy and middle aged, but some pieces are nice. The location is the ideal part about this J.Crew. read more

Typical J Crew store, but it always seems messy. I usually get greeted by an employee, but never asked for help unless I've been standing in an area for a while and might look "suspicious". The store is kind of over-crowded and I feel like they could use a better visual merchandiser because they aren't like other J Crew store's I've seen. Their sale prices never seem to be "on sale" to me, because they're only about 25-30% lower. Would not recommend shopping this store if you feel customer service is at all important. The older, dark haired women with glasses (40's, Magen?) is consistently rude and behaves as is she is doing one a favor to check out your purchases. I was in on Monday 12/23/13 and she did not even say thank you when I bought a gift card. I said thank you to her and said it would be courteous to thank the customer at which point she glared at me and said "well here you go". As I left, she haughtily smirked and laughed in front of a line of customers. I and my 2 daughters will gladly drive to another store after this incident as I also have worked retail and will not tolerate substandard, rude service. The expensive price of the clothing should include high standards of customer service and a pleasant shopping experience. Someone needs to speak up and this staff person and any one like this should know there are people who are a pleasure to deal with, waiting for a job. I will no longer tolerate unacceptable customer service as I would not treat others like this! read more
