Had prepping for a dental implant procedure done with this person, and explained I was having pain when chewing post-procedure. After going back several times to the implant dentist for him to fix the issue, I was told by a receptionist that he would no longer see me and I should see Dr. Ward again who proceeded to tell me it was all in my mind, ask me if I grind my teeth at night, and tell me I'd need a root canal if the pain I'm experiencing is 'real,' insinuating the pain was all in my head/psychological. I go to another dentist (Dr. Michael Bruno) who fixes the problem perfectly, doesn't charge me, and I've had no pain since. I highly do not recommend Dr. Ward, but highly recommend Dr. Bruno. read more

Dr. Ward isn't only the best oral surgeon out there, he is also: THE BEST DOCTOR I HAVE EVER BEEN TO IN NEW YORK. I simply adore Dr. Ward. I was referred to him by my former dentist who shall not be named. I have weak teeth due to childhood issues, and I always have terrible tooth problems and cavities that necessitated extractions. Dr. is an angel, I feel so safe in his hands. When I fist saw him back in 2008 I was working full-time with great insurance...I recently moved back to NYC and had a terrible infection but I was freelancing with no insurance...he remembered me and took me as a patient anyway and we worked out a plan which is so incredibly kind of him. Needless to say all the extractions worked out well, and btw he is a specialist in anesthesia which means you will not be awake and/or remember anything which is the greatest thing you could ask for. I swear I love this man. I'd do anything for him. Everyone in the office is great. Even though oral surgery is never fun, it is actually very doable because I know I am in good hands with Dr. Ward and his great staff. I wish I could give Dr. Ward 6 stars. First, he is also an anesthesiologist, so whenever I have to do something that is even slightly painful, I have him knock me right out (it's actually called "twilight"). I love you Dr. Ward! He's also such a nice man. I never feel rushed. He always takes his time to explain everything he is doing, wants to do, and plans to do. He is personable, always remembers that I have two kids and asks about them. He's really understanding when it comes to rescheduling too. He's just got a great demeanor and I'm perfectly at ease and comfortable when I am in his chair. He also really stands by his work. His equipment is modern, his office is clean and comfortable and his staff is very nice. Dr. Ward makes going to the dentist a pleasure. No, really, I mean that. By the way, Dr. Ward is not a dentist. He is an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon. That means that he works on jaws, eye sockets, dental implants (that's what he did for me), etc. So he (unfortunately!) does not do fillings, cleaning, etc.. Dr. Ward (of Grand Central OMS) is THE BEST. He does his best to make you feel comfortable (which is nearly impossible right before surgery), explains the procedure carefully, and also waits patiently if you--hypothetically--almost faint after getting an IV. He also looks like Tim Allen's early transformation into Santa Claus (in The Santa Clause), which is strangely comforting. He took out 3 of my wisdom teeth last week. I've gone back to the office for the last 4 days in a row because of complications (not his fault), and he's made time in his schedule to check on my progress and make sure I'm not freaking out (too much). Great office staff also, they try to minimize the wait time, figure out all your billing for you, and are very kind if you show up almost in tears. Sadly, they know me by name now. Firstly I am phobic so it took some coaching and a large abscess and cracked tooth to get me through door. Dr Ward is in one simple word amazing. He spent time explaining my options, was detailed but also made it very easy to understand. His bed side manner is impeccable and put me at ease. I was referred to Dr. Ward by my general dentist for a tooth extraction. It was my first extraction. Dr. Ward told me that I will be under anesthesia during the procedure but Insurances generally don't cover that. That mean I would have had to pay that from my pocket. I spoke to some friends about it and they told me that for tooth extraction an anesthesia was not needed. Later upon doing some research on the doctor I found that Dr. Ward was a certified anesthetist and everything became very clear. I opted for another doctor, my tooth was pulled within 30 minutes with simple Novocain. I just wanted to let everyone know that anesthesia may not be needed but Dr. Ward may recommend it. read more

The receptionist on the phone was very rude. Dr Ward did my tooth extraction about 2 months ago, and I am supposed to come back for another appointment for a bone graft. Recently, my dental insurance changed. So I called today to make sure that they accept my new insurance. Unfortunately, they don't. I asked if Dr Ward can refer me to another oral surgeon, and the receptionist said no, the doctor cannot refer me to another doctor, and asked me if i want to cancel my appointment instead. I was very disappointed and said, "I might have to", and then she said, "No problem, goodbye!" and hung up. She was very rude and she seemed to not care because I am no longer a patient/customer. read more

Dr Ward is simply the best! Both of my bottom two wisdom teeth were sitting on a nerve, and when one became infected in the root,we opted to take it out. I was very nervous as there was a risk of nerve damage, however dr Ward bedside manner was wonderful and put me at ease. I wouldn't trust any other doctor extracting! When the second became infected a year later, we removed and all went well no nerve damage! Could not ask for a better doctor. read more

I went to Dr. Ward for an emergency implant on my front right tooth after he was recommended to me by a colleague. Because my tooth was not removed properly (by another office), I was lacking enough bone to secure the implant in place so I needed to have a bone graft done. Dr. Ward performed the graft (and then a subsequent one because the first did not hold well enough) and he assured me that the graft would be substantial enough for my gum tissue to grown down around it. Turns out it wasn't. I now have grey, thin gums above the implant and it has ruined the aesthetics of my smile. In addition (and probably worse) to the gum situation, I have been told by many dentists I have seen since that Dr. Ward 1) put the implant in at the wrong angle and 2) used too thin of an abutment which has further augmented my thin gum issues. As a result of his incorrect placement of the implant, my front tooth protrudes forward from the rest of my teeth. He is a very nice guy and his office is clean and up-to-date. However, if you have a truly cosmetic oral surgery requirement, I strongly do not recommend seeing him. read more

These doctors (well idk about Klein, but definitely Ward) are rip-offs. They charge about $550 a teeth for wisdom tooth removal and always advise that they be removed. I've been told many times by many dentists that they do not need to be removed, but I went to this oral surgeon anyway just to get an estimate. When they told me the estimate, I laughed and went to another dentist (Maurice Edwards I believe) and he gave me an estimate of $150 per tooth. Don't waste your time with Grand Central. They just try to milk your insurance the most they can. read more

I am not one to write reviews, however I felt it was necessary in this case. I am a registered nurse and have had years of experience with physicians of all types. By far Dr. Ward is one of the best!! I had to have a tooth removed and a bone graft placed. Normally, I was so nervous and anxious about the procedure. However, Dr. Ward and his staff made me feel relaxed and safe. The oral surgery went well; even his IV placement was painless. I have no swelling (1st day post-op). This man is awesome. I had all four wisdom teeth removed at once and it really was a wonderful experience. My regular dentist recommended Dr. Ward to pull the teeth because I wanted to do them all at once and I have been traumatized in the past by a free clinic dentist who botched pulling an old tooth on which I had had a root canal that needed to come out. Dr. Ward answered all of my questions in our consultation. Any time you are going under anesthesia you need to be sure the Dr. is competent, knows what to do if something goes wrong, and has a firmly established protocol for getting you to a hospital if need be. As most of my wisdom teeth were impacted, this certainly was an expensive option ($500-600 per tooth), but even two years later I am very happy I went with Dr. Ward. As my normal dentist said, "Sometimes you have to treat yourself"! His office staff is very nice and professional, and the office is a calming place to be. After your procedure you wake up and are taken to a nice chair with a blanket in a dark space to wake up from the drugs. Follow up care was good and getting my stitches out was not big deal. read more

Dr. Ward can perform oral surgery on me any day! My visits there were by far the most pleasant experiences I've had at with dentist/oral surgeon, and considering I had all four wisdom teeth removed in one shot that's saying alot! I was knocked out for the procedure, but my interaction with Dr. Ward and the staff while I was conscious was nothing but pleasant. And even after having all four wisdom teeth removed, my face did not swell up like that of a prizefighter after a slugfest. I highly recommend him to anyone needing oral surgery. read more

Me giving 5 stars to a dentist is sort of like someone who is deathly afraid of heights giving 5 stars to a skydiving academy, but there you have it. Dr. Ward has a very relaxed and friendly yet professional manner, and got 2 wisdom teeth out of me with very minimal amounts of the requisite pain or dread that I expected. Fantastic experience getting my wisdom teeth removed with Dr. Ward. He explained everything in detail at my initial consultation (while pointing to an X-Ray of my teeth so I understood the science of the procedure), was very patient with my (considerable) nerves and questions, and then did a fantastic job with the surgery. I don't remember a thing! Following the procedure, I had no complications whatsoever -- no dry sockets, no infection, no numb lip, etc. Moreover, he was very friendly, concerned, and patient at the follow-up appointment. Dr. Ward is so great! He has an awesome bedside manner and will listen and answer all of your concerns with any procedure. The general anesthesia here is seamless, it all happens in the blink of eye (well it seems that way anyway!) and I've never had an adverse reaction coming out. To date, I've had 4 surgeries with Dr. Ward and each has been a pleasant experience, as far as dental operations go anyway. Unluckily for me, I am one of the few patients who has had their dental implant fail on the first go around (not Dr. Ward's fault, this can happen with 10% of all implants!) but Dr. Ward seems determined to make the second try work by using different techniques and really building up the bone. Since my implant failed , and it's not the cheapest of procedures, my second attempt at the implant is free of charge. I think it's wonderful that Dr.Ward eats these costs so I can hopefully walk out of there with a full set of teeth again :P. I don't think many surgeons would be so kind. His staff is also fantastic, I've been given the runaround with my dental insurance company in paying for things that I am covered for. Denise worked with me and my constant calling, to work out any issues I've had with the insurance company. Since I've been to this office nearly a dozen times now, with surgeries and follow-ups included, the staff remembers my name and still are as kind and respectful as day one. I highly recommend Dr Ward for any procedure you may need an oral surgeon for. I second everything that everyone else has already said. Dr. Ward is not only one of the best oral surgeons I've ever had, but easily the best doctor as well. He is not only incredibly skilled, but his bedside manner is so phenomenal. I went to him for a wisdom teeth extraction consultation and when he noticed that one of my teeth was sitting on a nerve, he did extra x-rays and recommended against touching it. My whole experience at this office was seamless from beginning to end. I was able to fill out the medical forms online before coming to the office (amazing!), and while I waited, another doctor came by and joked with me (everyone here is so happy!). They have this incredibly cool x-ray machine that feels like a stationary spaceship-y roller coaster ride (if you can imagine such a thing) that plays music while you're x-rays are being taken. Dr. Ward did not keep me waiting, took his time to learn more about me as a patient (where I'm from, my career, etc.) and then talked with me extensively about my procedure and walked me through each of my x-rays. Before I left, I sat with one of the administrative assistants and she walked me through the charges, breaking down what would be covered by my insurance and what I would need to pay out of pocket. She explained the pre-op and post-op instructions, and gave me my prescriptions in advance to get filled so I didn't have to worry about it day-of. The day of the procedure, they got started right away, and I don't remember a single thing after being asked to bite down on a rubber bite bar. Awesome. I woke up and they helped me into a cozy little recovery room where I slept off my anesthesia since they knew I was taking a cab home. They woke me up and made sure I could walk and then helped me be on my way. A week later, I came back for my follow up visit and it lasted a few minutes. It's been three weeks since my procedure and when I noticed that a tooth shard was poking through my gums, I called their office and they immediately arranged for me to come in. When it comes to removing teeth, three things are important to me, how fast it's done, whether it's painless and how professional the staff is explaining the procedure. Dr Ward gets five stars for all three. My wisdom tooth was out in about 10 seconds (I am not exaggerating), I felt nothing and the procedure was nicely detailed beforehand. Dr. Ward is by FAR the absolute best oral surgeon there is.....you would be a fool to go to anyone else. I am an extremely apprehensive patient and he was SOOO great in handling me. Even better, I didnt feel a thing and when I woke up I was fine. No pain at all and my recovery was so great I did not even need pain medication. I had a complex extraction, bone graft and a membrane. I hope I never need oral surgery again, but if I do I will be only ever going back to Dr. Ward. He is as friendly as can be and genuinely cares about his patients. After the procedure I got a dry socket (no fault of his) and he made time to see me every day for a week to treat it (no charge). Dr. Ward granted my wish to save my tooth (# 6 which is near the front of the mouth) which had a long history of faulty root canal attempts as well as a prior apico ectomy by another oral surgeon - but a resistant infection augered an inevitable extraction which would require wearing a bridge because I cannot sustain having implants. I was dreading the extraction - but knew it was inevitable, nevertheless. Reluctantly seated in Dr. Ward's chair waiting for the surgery to begin, I suddenly, without any prior thought to what I was about to say, looked at Dr. Ward and asked, " Can't we try to save this tooth by performing another apico procedure?" (I knew that my tooth was doomed and besides, dental insurance only covers one Apico per tooth.) The miraculous Dr. Ward thought about it for a few minutes - because he obviously was not expecting to shift gears at the last moment and not follow-through as planned - and answered, "the chances of another apico being successful after all you've been through with that tooth are extremely slim - but, I'm willing to do it if that's what you want." That was nearly a year ago - and I'm very happy to still have my tooth intact sans the infection. A bonus to this outcome is that my insurance agreed to reimburse half the cost because of all the past failed attempts to save my tooth. I went to Dr. Ward for my four wisdom teeth removal and could not have had a better experience. Before hand I looked up his credentials and was very impressed by his resume. I only use Board Certified doctors and his education and training were superior to many of his colleagues. I am deathly afraid of the dentist and was very nervous for the procedure. As soon as he walked in he put me at ease. He was so great explaining the procedure, answering multiple questions and reassuring me that all would be fine. The surgery went fantastically well and I had no complications after at all. He is very patient, friendly, funny and really nice.
