It's now the next day as I'm writing this, and I've had no complications, no bleeding, and haven't even needed the ibuprofen. EDIT: I got curious about that one very negative review here on Yelp of this oral surgery practice, so I did a little sleuthing and discovered that the reviewer has ten reviews right in a row from 2019 to 2024 of various establishments, ALL with one star, and all with pretty nasty comments.

We thought it was doing fine until it started acting up again. He then recommended an apicoectomy procedure and referred me to Dr. Park from UPWS. I was hesitant at first because I had heard many horror stories not about Dr. Park, but about similar procedures that turned into nightmares. Long story short, I did my research, read reviews, and finally made the appointment (10.25.2022) Meeting Dr. Park for the first time, he was pleasant, brilliant, professional, and thorough. I had my apicoectomy done with just local anesthesia, and it was completely painless. Dr. Park was exceptional, truly on another level. After the procedure, I received post-op instructions, and to my surprise, he personally called me that evening to make sure I was doing okay. That was something I never expected. Whenever I called or texted, he would always respond or call back as soon as he was available. I also had a dental extraction with bone graft done by him, and it was the same excellent experience. His staff Emiliana and Siobhan were both helpful and pleasant. Siobhan handled my pre-determination for my upcoming implant through email, and she was reliable and responsive. During every visit, they both made sure I understood the costs, how much insurance would cover, and answered all my questions and concerns. The clinic itself is spotless and relatively quiet. If you need an oral surgeon or are undecided about surgery, consider this your sign Dr. Park is a gem. The only downside is that I can't make him my general dentist, but I'm so glad I met him.

One year later, the site shows no signs of infection, and the bone has been fully restored. Dr. Choi is not only an excellent surgeon but also a warm and empathetic person. The day after surgery, he personally sent my husband a text to follow up. He always listened to our questions and concerns and explained everything clearly. His office team is helpful, courteous, and professional and their new location is modern, bright, and welcoming. I didn't even have to take Tylenol to get some sleep that night. After dealing with the pain for weeks, it was nice not to take Tylenol to go to sleep. The equipment they used was very modern, and the staff were very professional. It was nice that I got a follow-up call to see how I was doing. Highly recommend anyone to get work done there.

I got to the office on time, and immediately informed them of how nervous I was for the surgery, pain, etc. They kept me waiting (without ANY INFO) for TWO HOURS. It is completely unacceptable for an oral surgeon to keep patients waiting 2 hours past their appointment time in a waiting room without ANY communication between the staff and patient. Not only was the waiting room extremely stuffy, but it was crowded - to the point where people were sitting out in the HALLWAY ON THE GROUND. This office told me I should do follow up work also the same day as the extraction. Apparently it is better, if I want to have an implant, to do all the work at once since the gums will heal with the implant in place. I first spoke to Maria who clued me in on this. I then asked what it will cost specifically and what was covered. She had the office manager Irene call me back. Irene spoke with me in depth on the steps for having an implant done. She wrote out about 8 codes for me and told me what was covered in my plan. She e-mailed this information to me. She even outlined steps after the implant placement, to be done by my general dentist. It turns out after some research, that I will not be going with this office as fabulous as they were. It's less expensive for me to go out of network and to have one doctor do everything instead of handing off to my dentist. Implants aren't really covered. This office has to hand off to a dentist because Dr. Tarlo is a surgeon. I wanted to write a review though because had it not been for this office, I wouldn't have been clued in to the steps to take for all of this. Other offices wanted to schedule me for an extraction only which would have been wrong. Thank you for your great work! I am sure Dr. Tarlo is superb and should I need an oral surgeon in the future, I will definitely reach out.

During the first one, I was taken an x-ray (after having my confirmation that I was fine in paying the cost) and explained the surgery process and preparation to it (fasting for 8 hours, etc..). The doctor told me the difference between the local anesthesia and the sedation, so that I had enough information to decide to go with the second option. After the visit, his admin assistant took me in her room and walked thru the full cost, including the deduction covered by my insurance (she had spoken to my insurance while I was with the doctor). I paid the x-ray and signed the agreement. At the surgery appointment, I paid upfront the surgery costs, before starting any procedure. I was pretty nervous but in fact the sedation worked wonderfully (I dreamed about being on the amusement park with the doctor and the nurses :D ). I fell asleep in seconds and when I got up, besides trembling for being cold (which is kinda usual in surgeries), I had the feeling that the surgery duration had been of seconds. And more especially I didn't end up by saying any stupid thing like you see in those many videos online, taken right after the surgeries (I was so afraid!). My husband came to pick me up (a requirement from the office to have someone coming to pick you up if you choose the sedation option) and they gave him all the due docs, medicines and explanations on how to take care of my recovering mouth. I followed everything on their documents. I experienced some pain for a pair of days (and a bit longer on one of the 4), but nothing really major requiring painkillers or so. At the final appointment 10 days later, Dr Del Valle checked my mouth, very quickly to confirm that everything was looking very good. And in fact I was feeling really good! I am really pleased with the experience and would definitely recommend to choose Dr Del Valle and his team if you need any wisdom teeth surgery.

NON-EXISTENT POST-PROCEDURE CARE More importantly was that there were issues after the procedure and they basically gaslighted me about them and told me to go somewhere else. I had a serious issue after the procedure causing intense pain. They said "oh we've never seen a reaction like this so it must not be related." Um yeah, so for some reason the morning after an invasive procedure in my mouth I'm having intense pain and it's UNRELATED? Seriously WTF. After three calls they reluctantly prescribed antibiotics (which I insisted upon after ChatGPT diagnosed it as a likely deep tissue infection), which ultimately solved the problem. But when they agreed to send the rx in they literally told me that I should go see a doctor instead of calling back. QUESTIONABLE PROCEDURE I ended up having to go to an emergency dentist. When they looked at the cut made in my mouth they remarked that it seemed unnecessarily deep, basically to the bone. 5 weeks later and it's still not fully healed. So yeah. Never again with this place. NEVER. STAY AWAY!

Office staff were prompt, responsive, and professional. In the end opted against the procedure due to some minor red flags that in retrospect don't seem so minor: (1) There are clearly negative outcomes with laser procedures on infants, yet not a single review mentions negative outcomes). Refer to NYT article for specific examples: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/18/health/tongue-tie-release-breastfeeding.html (2) Their website claims CO2 lasers "help reduce the anesthesia needed, as well as not needing sutures." This is a bit of an apocryphal advantage since a traditional frenectomy does not necessitate sutures and anesthesia (for babies younger than 6 weeks). (4) Their website claims "a secondary benefit is that the laser also sterilizes the wound leading to decreased infection rates." This is also not a real advantage since a traditional frenectomy is performed with sterile scissors. (5) Not taking insurance, then charging a 4.25% credit card fee, otherwise expecting cash or check. (I should note that surgical frenectomies are typically covered by many insurance plans). These are things that did not sit well with us when we considered Dr. Siegel's services. If you can, try to get a second opinion from a pediatric ENT doctor before making a decision...

I returned to this practice in August 2025 specifically because of my past positive experience with Dr. Martin, who had always been sensitive to my severe dental anxiety. For my August appointment, booked for a cleaning, exam, and X-rays, I confirmed in advance that I required nitrous for the entire visit along with Valium. Instead, I was met with repeated pressure from a hygienist I had never met before about "concerns" with my teeth and gums, even though Dr. Martin had already examined me and said everything "looked good." The hygienist left mid-appointment to discuss insurance coverage with the office manager, leaving me waiting. When I asked to proceed with the cleaning I originally booked, she turned the nitrous off, switched to oxygen and I ultimately left without the full service. Because I care deeply about my dental health, I later scheduled Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing for today, the deep cleaning their hygienist recommended. I was told it would take two hours to complete all four quadrants and cost roughly $350 per quadrant. I prepaid nearly $2,000 and confirmed, in writing, that I required nitrous for the entire appointment and did not want any upsells mid appointment. Despite receiving multiple confirmations (two emails, three calls, and a text), the experience again fell far short. I flew into NYC specifically for this appointment and timed my anxiety medication with the appointment time to ensure treatment would go smoothly. When I arrived early at their request, the hygienist attempted to rush me into treatment before the nitrous had taken effect, contradicting their claim of understanding dental anxiety care. Then I was told I would receive injections to numb my entire mouth, something never mentioned during the booking process, not listed online in the procedure description, and not disclosed in any of our prior conversations. I declined and requested standard numbing gel. The "two-hour" Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing began at 4:02 pm and ended at 4:32 pm, 30 minutes total. Literally. I was then told the reason was simply, "Your teeth are in such good shape." This is especially concerning given that four months earlier, I was told (during a basic cleaning) that my gums were in such poor condition they needed to stop mid-appointment to verify insurance approval for a deep cleaning. Yet now, after paying cash upfront, all four quadrants were completed in just half an hour. It feels inconsistent at best, and at worst, like a bait-and-switch situation. I also paid $215 for nitrous oxide. Based on the photo I took, the machine displayed 60% nitrous / 30% oxygen. At no point did I feel the typical physical effects one would expect--especially when combined with a prescribed sedative. It raises the question of whether the nitrous tank was empty or improperly administered. I've had nitrous EVERY dental appointment for 20 years - i know how I'm supposed to feel, I repeatedly said nothing was coming and I was fully alert, yet another scam. To summarize, I paid nearly $2,000 for: * A two-hour Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing that lasted only 30 minutes * Four quadrants of scaling, when realistically only one or two may have been addressed * Nitrous oxide that did not appear to be delivered as represented * An exam I was told was required, yet I never saw the dentist at all. Oh and on my statement, it stated I received an Ibero scan - never happened and the receptionist said, well you weren't charged for it. LOL. I am requesting reimbursement for the nitrous charge, two of the four quadrants, and the exam fee. Patients have choices in dental care. If a practice advertises expertise in treating dental anxiety, the staff should be trained to actually deliver on that promise. Unfortunately, my experience demonstrated the opposite.
