Golf cart rental: Compared to all my visits to neighboring Put-in-Bay, there are barely any golf carts available to tourists on Middle Bass and they are only available at J.F. Walleye's. My grandpa and I got an early start and came in on the 9:15am ferry. We needed a golf cart around 10am, but turns out you can't even rent a golf cart until they open at noon! Fortunately, we ran into a worker who let us rent out a cart. We were able to golf cart around the whole island by noon and returned for lunch. Restaurant: This is the only standalone restaurant on the island so you can't expect much. The BBQ wings were solid but I wasn't a fan of the walleye bites. I love walleye, but the bites just didn't taste right and they came with a weird honey mustard dressing and the cole slaw tasted like gordon food service vs. being homemade. My Mai Tai tasted like a tropical drink, but not a Mai Tai necessarily. The restaurant features a resort-like wading pool (it's 1.5 feet deep) and there were kids swimming in it on the Thursday afternoon I visited. I imagine the pool and the entire place gets put-in-bay crazy on the weekend. Food and drinks are pricey, which is understandable given how difficult it is to get everything on and off the island. Overall, 5/5 for the service from the golf cart guy and our attentive waitress, but everything else is a bit disappointing just like the island. read more

This is a gem of a place here on bass island ! Easy to get to and a killer time with great food ! The walleye is awesome and the rueben is 100% They have live music ! And a nice pool ! We visited Walleyes several times during our stay as uts really the only restaurant on the island aside from the general store. All of our meals were surprisingly good for a dive bar like atmosphere. We enjoyed our burgers and I had a swordfish special that was excellent. Prices are a little high and they charge extra $3 for fries which seeks steep. The wait staff bust their butts when this place is busy, which is basically always. They have a lagoon area out back with a wading pool so people like to swim and hang out and drink. Inside they have a small gift shop and a place to rent golf carts. My only advice for them is to please include some gluten free options. Since you're the only restaurant in town it would be nice if you'd have more options for folks who have this sensitivity. They did say they some times have GF wraps but didn't while we were there. Luckily I settled for burgers without buns and salads. read more

A great island restaurant. Easy dockage just across the street at Middle Bass Island State Park. Great service, great food, reasonably priced. Can't beat the patio with the wading pool. Try the chicken and waffles! read more

We come here all the time in the summer. The rum buckets are amazing and they always have some great drink deals. You need to get the fish n chips & cheese curds. Chicken tenders are a great size are super crispy, too! Out back by the lagoon is so relaxing, you could easily spend your whole day here. Bartenders are always solid read more

Love Walleyes! Great staff and even better food/drink selection. Place was packed last weekend for Queen of Hearts drawing and the lone bartender was amazing in she was serving a full bar AND tables in the dining room. Anytime we come to MBI...Walleyes is a must stop in. Plus we get to walk back to St. Hazards w a buzz and get ice cream to go! Win Win for all!!! read more

It's hard to give this any stars because it was late season, very late season. They were out of several foods. The waitress was excellent at informing me of what was available and did a great job checking on my table. Several times I did try the walleye bites and I will say they are worth the trip. It is a very large and accommodating space with two bars I think, and possibly some outdoor seating. read more

Not a lot of options on Middle Bass Island but this place is solid. We had Sunday Brunch which was a buffet. They had the standard breakfast items and the chef kept the food fresh by regularly replenishing the food. Service was good. Not quite a 4 star but a good 3.5. I would like to go back during the evening and try the regular menu. They have a cool wading pool in the back patio area with loungers, chairs with rocks and plants. Very tropical. atmosphere is fun since it's one of the only restaurants on the island, but service was not too good and food was subpar and definitely not worth the price. margarita was not worth $6 and came out when i was over halfway done with my dinner. got my brother's hamburger order wrong, but he said the fries were good. definitely go to uncle joe's pizza instead!! read more

This place is so poorly run it is sad. While we spent quite a bit of money there for the past two days we were treated horribly! The staff amongst themselves were talking about how everyone had to "watch out" for our group of friends right in front of one of us. The bartender would not allow my husband to open a tab. She also refused to serve my friend a virgin mudslide because "management" said no even though all of the ingredients were clearly available. I should also mention that this friend is pregnant, them knowing that still refused to serve her because she was with our group of friends. We have had so many fun times at walleyes in the past but this year was unacceptable. If you've ever watched kitchen nightmare this is the type of experience we had. This place needs Gordon Ramsey. To the staff I'm sorry that you work for such horrendous management. read more

Large establishment with multiple bars. Pretty clean with quite a few sit down areas. There's a nice, shallow pool outside for kids/adults, there's also good live music. One of the outside bars is screened-in, which is a nice protection from the bugs. It's the go-to on Middle Bass Island. Good atmosphere all together. read more

My last review said I'd be back and I was. Albeit b/c there is almost no where else to go once you get here. This time the servers seemed overwhelmed. I sat at bar for ten minutes before I could flag someone down. We later got a table and asked for a pitcher of water since it was literally 98 degrees this weekend. Waitress brought it with no glasses, who cares, that part was just funny, not sure what she was thinking but you know how it is. Food is average, I heard it's for sale, maybe it's going downhill. But to get out of the heat it was worth it. We went back for breakfast the next day and the service was much better. Glad no more buffet, we got bagel sandwiches and they were fine. read more

My first time to middle bass island was this past August. There are two restaurants/bars on the island, JF Walleye's being one of them. Their layout is great, with a nice large comfortable inside bar with margaritaville esque kitsch that suits it perfectly, and outside screened in porch, and a large patio that turns into a shallow tropical themed pool. The food is two or three star, mostly deep fried. For some reason the lake Erie walleye is listed as 'Alaskan' on the menu though our waitress told of its Ohioan origins. Service was prompt and friendly. I was very sad to hear that they're no longer brewing their own beer because of island vacationers' preference for familiar macro brews. With a little less emphasis on fried food and brewing their own beer again this could be a higher star experience for me. As it is, it's a fun place in a great location with a setting for everyone. read more

We recently visited Middle Bass Island and this is one of the few places to eat and get a drink on the island. Over all, the experience was about what you might expect for a low traffic type of vacation spot like Middle Bass. The food was good for the most part. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and the walleye bites. The wrap was very good, no complaints there,m. The walleye bites could have been better. If the name of the establishment has wallet in it, I'm expecting spectacular walleye bites. There were decent, but the breading had very little flavor and you could tell the cut of walleye they used for the bites came from the belly of the fish. That cut tends to have a chewy layer of skin or fat that is not great. The service was good. The clientele is an older crowd, but the staff is a good mix and very friendly. read more

While touring Middle Bass Island we stopped by JF Walleyes for lunch. They have completely renovated the interior and exterior and it looks amazing. The menu was good sized with appetizers, salads, burgers, wings and flatbreads. Weekly specials offer something new to try but I had the sriacha, bacon and bourbon burger. It was huge and delicious. I would absolutely recommend stopping by here when on Middle Bass Island. read more

First time here, waitress forgot about us and we almost could not get food due to closing the kitchen earlier than the patio. By the time we got our menus she stood there and rushed us to order. Staff is rude and not accommodating to customers. read more

Yet another establishment that dislikes families with kids. One waitress actually rolled her eyes and huffed when we walked in. Well, they showed us. We waited for over 20 minutes to be acknowledged at our tables, and didn't even get an "I'll be right with you." Not sure if it had to do with the mixed races in our group amongst our children and their friends, or it was the fact that we had kids with us, but everyone else (including those with kids) had a waitress. Definitely wouldn't walk foot in this place ever again. read more

My wife and I are frequent visitors to Walleye's, and this past Sunday was the best so far! The staff this year is outstanding -- they were hustling their butts off in the 90-degree heat, keeping everyone "hydrated" so to speak! The new menu looks great, the food was terrific and served promptly, and our drinks were never empty. The place was packed which was awesome to see. Garbage. As long time patrons, not again. And for anyone who is expecting the good food they served last season as we did, you will be disappointed. Some comments from the table: 'the nachos at my school cafeteria are better than this and cost $2.50' 'this is the worst dining experience we've had anywhere on the islands' 'these wings are still cold... soggy too' 'I still haven't found the perch on my perch sandwich' Our server Cody was great as was the music. Usually pretty good but just average this time. Several issues... Half the menu was x'd out of things not available. Pool was allowing dogs to swim in the pool in water that was clearly not chlorinated as they were filling through a hose using stinky well water all day. The dogs would not have been an issue of the water was treated. Last they ran out of ice and could not make any frozen drinks on the hottest of the year. I know it's an island and it is tough to get things sometimes. But there should be better planning for the Christmas in July weekend. What the place lacked in does get an extra star for the friendly staff!! read more

The outside "pool" area is wonderful! It isn't deep enough to swim, but it definitely keeps you cool and was very clean. Some of the staff were moderately friendly and the others were the best part! Unfortunately, it was understaffed so they were getting overwhelmed. Overall, we would return for the friendly environment and location. read more

I agree with the previous review. Garbage. Waited over an hour for burgers then told they are out of burgers. Also they are out of pizza, shrimp, flatbread, and walleye. Still waiting for substitute chicken fingers after 90 minutes. Not worth the trip. My wife just went into the kitchen and served as kitchen manager to handle the situation. read more

Rented a condo thru Walleye's. Had some plus' and minus'. They let us in early (an hour)which is a big plus since the ferry schedule does not coincide with the check in schedule. The minus' being. No wifi No satalite tv -even tho it was listed on the reservation page no hot water the first night - it was off at the breaker box then had to wait an hour for it to heat up didn't know there was a washer and dryer there so didn't bring detergent and packed clothes for 4 days did not know there was a hair dryer and packed one (not a huge deal but one more thing to drag along) Other than that it was a very quiet stay during the week which we like. Condo was relatively clean if you didn't look in the corners. Since I paid a $100 cleaning fee, I do look into corners. Beds and pillows were a little softer than I like but when you're tired you adjust. Kitchen was well stocked. The landscaping around the condo's could use some help. Balcony over the lake was awesome! read more

Female owner was aggressive in her tone and finger pointing when she passes by myself (mom) and teens today while driving a golf cart. We rented four person cart. There were five of us. My one teen stood safely in back. She drove past us in her big white SUV pulled over in middle of road and got out and stood next to our cart pointing at us etc...she did not introduce herself. Only chewed us out. She then said it was her cart. Prior to rental. Male manager\owner invited us to stay and eat our packed lunch out back and swim. After this we turned in our cart after 45 minutes and left the island. The female owner is a bitter aggressive hag. Only gave it five to get it here read more

This is the absolute worst food I have ever eaten. If you are staying on this island, I would recommend that you bring your own food! This is basically the only place to eat. They have children working in the kitchen, and they certainly do not know anything about cooking. read more
