I am a "cheap eats" kind of person, and quality cheap eats are hard to find on Put-in-Bay, Ohio. While on PIB, through Yelp, I found Joe's Bar and Restaurant. Although it's outside the main area of eateries around the docks, I decided to give it a try. Before leaving my room, I perused the menu, and on my walk over, I debated my choices: maybe a hot dog with homemade slaw, or a Southwest burger with chipotle sauce, bacon, and pepper jack cheese. Hmmm... Upon arrival, I asked for a menu, and the bartender slapped a wrinkled one on the bar. The first thing I saw was the "Sloppy Scotty," which the menu proclaimed, "It's what put us on the map!" I immediately knew that was what I had to have. I ordered a Maker's Mark with ginger ale, in which the Maker's Mark was liberally poured, and I sat down to await my meal. Service was quick, and when presented with my meal, the first thing I noted was that the hot dog bun was toasted on the outside. It was still a hot dog bun, but the outside kind of looked like Texas toast--just thinner--with Joe's signature "Sloppy Sauce" applied liberally on top, intermixed with mozzarella cheese, and topped with onions. It looked fantastic and tasted even better. It was absolutely delicious. I had an extra Maker's Mark just for good measure and was presented with a $27 bill. The night before, at a different restaurant, I had a couple of beers and a medium-sized perch plate, which was good but cost me $50. Do yourself a favor: if you find yourself on PIB, drop by the unassuming Joe's Bar and Restaurant to grab a bite. You won't be disappointed. read more

Joe's bar has GREAT burgers!! We were pleasantly surprised that everything we got there was really good! Their cheese curls are the yummiest guilty pleasure, a must try. They have fast service and pleasant employees. There are a few tables inside but since it is a bar and we had the kids, we ate outside at the picnic tables. If you're camping in PIB or in for the day and want to eat GOOD FOOD at decent prices, this is your place. read more

This was another stop on the middle bass Island pub crawl. Joe's is a hopping place. They have a great outdoor space with plenty of seating. The bar is really busy, but you get your drinks quickly from the very friendly and a ton of staff. Of all the places we drank on our trip this one had the best service, best drinks, and best drink prices. On an island teaming with restaurants and bars, that charge A premium and delivers little value. Joe's is The place to go. The drinks were great. They have a great appetizer menu and the burgers are off the hook. I will definitely come back to this place again. read more

Great dive bar with outdoor patio. Staff and regulars treat you like an old friend. These are some of the most reasonable prices for drinks. Didn't eat in as we usually stopped after brunch and then again before heading back to hotel at night. Nice beer and liquor selection with variable craft beer options but don't ask for a beer list. You know I did being a beer snob and all. They will tell you lean over the counter and look. I can dig this being the kind of spot it is. Adjust your expectations accordingly. read more

Joe's has definitely grown over the years when we first started going it was a little locals spot. We would camp and head across the street for bloody Mary's (which are the best on the island). It is my favorite spot on the island still even though it is much more popular than it used to be. You can get a $5 Holla PBR oil can which is a heck of a deal with the prices out there. They have expanded their food menu and if your like me and sometimes have a kid with you, they have slushies and jumbo jenga outside on the lawn. read more

JOES. On a trip to Cedar Point we decided to spend one full day on the islands after perpetual indecisiveness. See, I couldn't pick which island to visit and I'm SO glad locals told us to go to Put In Bay because without them, this wouldn't have been possible. I will say that the other islands were more nature oriented and if I had been camping, sure. Anyway, my day was made the moment I spotted Joes from the back of our golf cart. So much so that we made a sharp turn into the gravel lot and may or may not have almost flipped said golf cart. We walked into Joes, sat down at the bar, ordered hotdogs and chili, and then toped them with chips. Cuz why the fk not. Joes also gifted me a nice refreshing yuengling because I'm a poor sap who lives in a state without. Also, I'm obnoxious and took a picture with a painting on the wall and the bartender (the cute bartender) told me a very interesting story about said girl. You'll have to get the dirt yourself. Anyway, you may have plans for the 22 or so establishments (I asked the bartender how many there were because I wanted a drink from each) on the island but you'd be a fool if you drove by Joes without stopping. We didn't eat there so can't speak to the quality of food. However, bartender was lacking of any social skills. Didn't make you feel welcome at all. We observed two young men working in the kitchen repeatedly dipping their bare hands in a bucket of shredded cheese and putting in their mouths. The sign outside indicated the board of health prohibits dogs however there was a dog seated in a bar stool at the bar (belonged to someone working behind the bar). The dog doesn't concern me however the lack of hand hygiene in the kitchen...maybe the alcohol will kill the germs! read more

Stopped in with fam on a Sunday 7/31/22 afternoon. Grabbed a cigar and hung out in the yard. Kids were having a great time playing jinga. My oldest is 21 and an employee came out and asked if he had is ID, which he did not. Instead of simply saying sorry you can't drink, he grabbed his drink and rudely, loudly demanded we leave the property. Could've handled it a lot different but he decided to go the little dick route. My husband and 12 year old son just came back from having a quick burger, fries and drink. They sat outside to eat. My son went inside to refill his soda. He handed the bartender $1 tip. There was already another $1 and change on the bar. The bartender took the tip From the bar and the $1 from my son's hand. My son went back outside. Then my husband went inside for a beer. While my husband was inside, another bartender came out and accused my son of stealing $2. Completely unacceptable for an adult to accuse a child without a parent present. He threatened my son that he had cameras. He should check his cameras. He would see that my son came in with his own money and never touched the money on the bar. The bartender should know better than to accuse a child while a parent is not present. The bar was crowded. read more

Your golf cart takes you to the end of the road and you see a place to drink? It's Joe's-a bright red crackerbox with booze and brews. No air conditioning and really not much service-they used to have wood-fire ovens for pizza but they are gone-what's left is snacky food- nachos, quesadillas; nothing too complicated to prepare. Picnic tables out back where people go to escape the heat of the bar and look like they'd rather be elsewhere, which is what we did as soon as we found out there was no pizza! read more

This was mine and my wife's first bar experience (we dont drink), got a funny look by some customers when I told the bartender "Jimbo" to name off non alcholic drinks (LOL). Wife and I had their Sloppy Joe and Panini and they were both AMAZING! Not sure why there is a question mark at the end of the their name because the chef knew how to make good food! Any of this Joe guys places on the island are great! I love them, the food's just right for the moment, and they're outside of the downtown party bubble, and are so relaxing to hang out at. My personal favorite is "Joe's Darn Good Food", located in the state park by the water. There's no A/C because it's all outdoor cabana seating, but for some reason when I'm there, I don't even care. If I could give 0 stars, I would. First and only time I was in Joe's bar was this past weekend, 9/22. I will NEVER spend anymore money in that place. Here's what happened ..... The ONLY reason we went down is because for whatever reason, we did not get cell service at our campsite at the State Park. We didn't want to go all the way down town to watch the NASCAR race on TV. When we went in, they had the Wisconsin VS Iowa college football game on TV but NOT ONE PERSON WAS WATCHING IT. So I asked the bartender, not sure of his name but he was wearing a red shirt that said "not a downtowner" and he was 33 years old (I know this because he told us his age when he checked our ID's) ... I asked him to change the channel. He acted appalled and frustrated that I even ask him to change the channel, let alone to a NASCAR race. He asked us to look up what the channel was on or phones, I said I would but I don't have service, which is why we're here. (Otherwise, we would've watched it in our camper anyways). So after some huffing and puffing, he finally pulled up the guide, found it and changed it. We went about our night, a few more people we knew came in (7 of us total). We ended up chatting with the bartender Nick, nice guy. All of a sudden, the race is almost over, 30 laps to go and the the bartender (red shirt guy) changes the channel to the Indians game. I said Hey, race is almost over, can we finish it? He goes Indians are in extra innings so I'm changing it. I said okay but the Indians already clinched the division, NASCAR is in the playoffs. He says listen, if the Indians are on, I have to have them on the tv.. also, nobody cares about NASCAR in this bar, Sorry Honey. You're kidding me right???? The funny thing, is that when we or there, INDIANS weren't on the tv, you didn't even know the Indians were playing!! Also, I don't care if it was lacrosse (no offense) that I wanted to watch, I'm a consumer who ONLY came down to the bar to watch the tv. It wasn't until after I, my husband and my friends get into a yelling match with this guy, that he then says.... well I can turn it on the tv at the other end of the bar. If you had any common courtesy or customer service experience WHAT SO EVER, you would've started the night with ... Hey I really can't change these TV's but there is another TV at the end of the bar that I'll be happy to change for you. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

Have been here several times. Wait staff is very selective about who they serve. We were seated and acknowledged by 2 bartenders and they still serve red 2 desperate parties that arrived well after us as we sat and watched. This is a tourist destination.
