From my first day in Arlington, to the day I graduated college, to just days ago for the St. Pats Day Celebration, it's been an indelible part of my life here in Arlington. When I think about J. Gill's I immediately think of enjoying a Shiner on a Friday night with a plate of Irish Nachos. I think of the days that my classmates and I would go here after our Thursday night classes and listen to karaoke and laugh, drink and have the best time. If you haven't had the Irish Nachos, or gone on karaoke night, you must. Always a great time. It was also admirable to see them fight so strongly to stay alive during COVID and I am so glad that they did. I honestly cannot imagine Arlington without them. My go to now - the veggie quesadilla with onion rings instead of ranchero beans (they have bacon in them). On St. Pats Day I decided to stop in for the Annual Celebration for the first time since the pandemic, and it was such an incredible feeling. They had at least 10 outdoor bars, a special menu, green beers and 3 stages throughout with different music. As I slipped my whiskey and cola (in a glass that turns green and stared at Abrams street, for a moment, everything felt normal. The crowd was all kinds - students, senior citizens, parents with kiddos, loud college kids in green - and it was just an incredible time. A belief escape from the world that I hadn't felt since 2019. The owner is super cool (and a UTA Alum), the staff are always attentive and the beer is always cold. So grateful for you, J. I can not say enough good things about J Gilligan's. First off, irish nachos. It is a big skillet of sliced potatoes covered in nacho fixins. It is just a cast iron full of comfort food. If potatoes and cheese aren't your thing, it's cool, they have a good menu. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. One side is just the restaurant and the other is a bar/ party room. Great Tipper!!! My husband & i just left J. Gilligans, where we came in to watch the football game, eat & have a couple of drinks. Noticing that the tables had stickers on them that informed the patrons to go to bar to receive service, my husband followed suit, only to be half-greeted by one of the bartenders sitting there bored. No biggie. After asking for a menu, my husband was asked for his identification because the word "menu" sounded like "pitcher" somehow (which the bartender explained). No biggie. My husband ordered two decent drinks and waited to be served for the food order for about 15 minutes, literally looking the bored bartenders in the eyes, as if it was competition of who-owes-who the privilege of service. Sadly, we lost that one, but proceeded to order our, eventually, luke-warm & mediocre food. No biggie. After eating, we proceeded to bar to ask for the check, where our card was on file. Somehow it automatically charged without our consent. No biggie, except for the fact that my husband also paid cash & left a 20% tip, which resulted in us being charged twice (full card & full cash, plus tip). Maybe they thought he was an exceptionally generous tipper (100%), despite barely any service (plus the 20% left in cash for terrible service). Noticing the double payment, my husband returned, then politely asked the lady bartender if his card was charged. She abruptly walked over to check the system, before he remembered that he had the receipt, which he politely informed her of. She noted that the card was already charged by saying, "clearly that's a card receipt." Remaining calm, he informed that he also paid cash. She storms over to the register to refund him. He asked, "aren't you going to check with the bartender that rendered the payment" & she said, "I'm not going to sit here & argue with you!" Huh? We didn't exchange any elevated, unkind, rude, or disrespectful comments, so when did your shitty service become an argument? J Gilligan's was a cool little sports bar to visit - we decided to come here to watch the NBA finals on a Thursday night. It was pretty dead as we visited on an early Thursday evening. We pregamed at Free Play so we came and ate right away! I was hungry. I ordered a burger with shoestring fries - it was only $10.75 so very affordable prices! Also opted for a beer (Strongbow) and our food came out pretty quickly. The burger was good. Typical American bar food.. nothing too special. I mean it was pretty worth the price. If it was price any more than that, I would've given it 3 over 4 stars. The crowd started picking up a bit after the game which was about 10-11pm so I guess it gets livelier after that time. Wanted to try the Irish Pub Nachos which was a huge mistake. As pictured below the Potatoes were both Old and Overcooked. This tainted the taste. Wow. Just wow. This is the most ingenious thing I've heard of in a while. Delicious food, amazing service both in the restaurant and in the shuttles. I wish this was a place in every single city next to every single stadium... alas. Parking is definitely ample. Showed up 30 minutes before a concert and there were spots left in the original parking lot as well as their satellite lots. There are about 5 shuttles from what I witnessed, but perhaps there are a few more. Reasonably it takes a while for the shuttle to pick you up and take you to the stadium; I wouldn't be waiting till last minute. Stand in line for the shuttle at least 30 min-1hr before you want to get there. After the event is even worse; there's terrible traffic getting out of AT&T Stadium and it just can't be helped. Don't be tempted to Uber or Lyft - the charges are outrageous and they take longer than the buses anyway. Just be patient. The food itself at J Gilligan's is also pretty decent. The burgers were fresh and filling, and the fries were well seasoned and delicious. No complaints about this ingenious little place; just a lot of compliments. read more

The fiancee and I both live outside Arlington these days, but still stop in every few months when we pass thru town. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service consistently fast / friendly. i haven't actually eaten here before, but one thing i can tell you is that on game nights, it is PACKED. i typically park here to go to the stadium, they let you park in their lot & you just pay like $10 for round trip use of their shuttles. that's an incredible perk. i think the first time i parked here last year, i came a bit early to enjoy the miller lite house in front of the stadium and their parking attendants weren't there, so it made navigating & figuring out what to do quite hard and a little stressful. i got out my car and starting giving other people instructions b/c they were just as confused. this time around, it was better. however, our shuttle driver kept the door open while circling around to find more people. it was over 100 degrees outside so doing my makeup for 2 hours ended up being pointless. he made me sweat it off. read more

Giving two stars because the server was friendly. The AC was not working well in 110 degree weather so it was about 85 in the room I was sitting in. No music at all on a Friday night. They only have three options on their event menu for adults and the food was not worth it. The Irish nachos were just very greasy cheese fries. The burger was worse than a sonic burger. Onsite parking is tight, but the actual restaurant & bar are way cool. The covered outdoor bar area is like a low-rent cross between Lee Harvey's & The Haymaker. (Perfect for me.) I have been going to gilligans ever since i started my college life at UT Arlington waaay back. I have gone to their st.patricks day celebration and that is always fun to go. For that event i suggest looking at the time and dates carefully. I always go early to get in free to the event so i can buy extra green beers. ON several occasions i have attended with a big group and i love how they are able to accommodate us without having to call in advance. The staff is always friendly and professional and have never had an issue when i have attended. Another thing i love about this restaurant is the decor! They love to display pictures of the locals that frequent the restaurant and also post pictures of the college events they have participated it. I love how they always participate in the uta homecoming festivities. Some of the local groups and organizations host monthly meetings here. I have been invited to several Christmas parties hosted here and i always had a good time and great food . I know during football season they offer shuttle rides to att stadium but i never used this service from them but i know it is very popular with people attending the events. Parking can be on short demand if there is an event going on in the restaurant or sometimes on the weekend. They usually have a parking lot attendant helping people find parking, you can even park across the street by the dollar store. Free parking available on the street, Now the food! I love it! AAALLL OF IT!! my favorite is the spear pickles and the chicken steak! followed by the UTA burger and the okra. This place is like a labyrinth. It's absolutely massive and you can walk through so many different sections they all feel like separate bars. Reading past reviews after I've come and gone, I'm now bummed that I didn't try the Irish Nachos! This was a post-meetings happy hour spot where we ordered drinks and an absurd amount of wings. Came here with my daughter primarily to use their shuttle service for a Cowboys game. Parking was a bit tricky because the restaurant parking lot was full and I did not see anyone out there directing cars to other parking lots when I got there. Be careful where you park because some businesses near by have signs that state they will tow your car if you park there. I did see someone out there later that afternoon so maybe I caught them just as a lot got full. Getting the shuttle wristband was a breeze and they do a great job of explaining the process. My daughter and I went in to grab some food prior to using the shuttle. When you walk in your have to seat yourself. It's not really clear when you walk in but eventually waitresses will tell you. Their game day menu is limited. My daughter had fries and I had the Irish nachos. The nachos were not bad but it was not good enough to make it memorable. I read a lot of reviews about the nachos and had high expectations. The service is a bit hit or miss. We were served quickly once seated but we went along stretches without our waitress checking in on us. It seems a bit chaotic on game day. The shuttle service was awesome. Once we were done with our food we walked out the restaurant and the staff pointed us to a van waiting on us. It takes 5-7 minutes to get to the stadium and the driver explained exactly what to expect for our return trip. When we got out the event there were a number of vans waiting on us with signs and staff directing traffic. The shuttle service alone makes the experience worth while. Parking at AT&T stadium sucks but I'm glad I found an alternative. Overall you can't go wrong visiting this restaurant. They run a tight ship with the shuttle service and it makes up for any minor issues in the restaurant. read more

Worst experience I've ever had here. First off, we waited forever for our app and food. Continued to ask the waiter to get this , to get that. Once food came out 24 hrs later, most of it was wrong. We asked for crispy chicken tenders and received a piece of grilled chicken. We were brought double of an entree when we ordered just one to share - but the waitress left it because she "didn't want to waste food." After the rest of us ate all our food, we were still waiting for my sister's CRISPY chicken tenders, so we just cancelled the order After being extremely annoyed and over this experience, of course our bill was wrong. She tried to charge us for the cancelled order of chicken tenders AND the extra entree SHE LEFT that we did not order. Trying to make up for it, she added a 10% discount. However the bill was still wrong, so she went to fix it. She comes back and had added 2 more missing beers and took off the 10% discount LOL. J. Gilligan's has a lot going on, good lord! It's a large, rectangular building divided into two halves; the bar half and the restaurant half. I didn't actually go into the bar, but I took a peek and saw that that's where the action is (well, on a Monday night at least). Adam and I meandered through the restaurant side; a conglomeration of different sized rooms and tables. There were a few arcade games, a TON of photos, random beer and Irish related decorations on all of the walls, a stage area, and a billion four-leafed clover banners stretched across the ceiling in every direction. It's overwhelming, but not in a bad way. You walk in and know that this place is thoroughly casual, fun, and inexpensive. At first, I thought it would be fairly dirty inside. But even though it's a bit run-down and obviously well-loved, this establishment is surprisingly clean! Even the bathroom was nice and clean, despite the top of the toilet sliding off. J. Gilligan's has a pretty hearty menu full of nachos, burgers, deep-fried sides, steak and gravy, and salads. Adam ordered a burger with onion rings, and I went for the famous Irish Nachos. I gotta tell you, these things were damn good. Serious slices of real potato in a skillet, baked with a ton of real cheese, then covered in tomato, onion, and jalapeno. I got some sour cream on the side to make it perfect. You get a huge portion for only $7.29, which made me super happy. I'd definitely order this dish again (there's not much else on the menu for the GF! Actually, I'm not 100% sure the Irish Nachos were GF.... but these taters tasted baked, not fried).
