Neighborhood sit down Chinese restaurant. Not like the ones in flushing as someone previously claimed. The food is definitely more your typical American style Chinese food (pork fried rice, wonton soup, chicken and broccoli - they serve you fried noodles and duck sauce upon arrival) with a few more authentic Chinese additions such as soup dumplings and casseroles. If you're a fan of soup dumplings, the ones here are quite delicious - large and filled to the brim with a light soup stock. I'd recommend it to people living in the neighborhood and I will probably return again for the soup dumplings. read more

Absolutely nothing was good about this place. We got a few dishes and all of them were flavorless to the point where we didn't even bother eating it. It was also very expensive which sucked because it wasn't good at all! Definitely don't recommend. I will post the pics but don't be fooled because it looked really good but did not taste good. Had food delivered and was unable to go downstairs to get food because I have little kids and wasn't able to take them down with me. I cannot exaggerate! This classy restaurant is situated in a nondescript strip mall in East Elmhurst. It's cozy and inviting inside along with the linen service. The dishes are impeccable; consistently fresh and beautifully executed. Start with the The divine Szechuan Spicy Wontons or anything on the Dim Sum menu! The whole fried fish takes about 45 minutes to prepare. The magic begins with live fish. Enough said. I dream about their soft-shell crab and the prawns are amazing. But not until I had a sit down meal in the restaurant, my view was totally changed. This is a Cantonese style restaurant where they offers many authentic Cantonese BBQ and southern old fashion dishes and stews. My favorite was the stew options, I wanted all of them. I ended up ordering the chicken, black mushroom, with tofu stew which was absolutely tasty. The Juicy little port dumplings (soup dumplings) were good too. You can't get them in a lot of places. I also challenged and ordered the sweet and sour pork. However, I was disappointed to see they made it the Americanized way with bright orange watery sauce and fried pork dough balls. Where can I begin I have been coming here since before the pandemic me & my friend use to love coming here for dinner. So they haven't been open for almost two years for indoor dining, we finally got a chance to go back today and they had indoor dining. The food is as good as I remember it. The food here is so much better than those greasy, cheapy Chinese takeouts!! We'd seriously eaten fifteen minutes before, and came over to eat more food. As if there's such a thing as being full! The soup we ordered was just tangy enough and the steamed shrimp dumplings were little bites of heaven. My favorites were the boneless spare ribs and general tso's chicken - they were heavy enough to make us even fuller but not at all oily so we kept our chopsticks clicking. And I got a shirley temple! Who makes shirley temples anymore?! This place! Complete with umbrella. The place was packed with a total mix of diners, from couples to families to us youngins. I wish I could go here more often because this is the best non-oily Chinese restaurant out there, but it's too far for a Manhattanite like me. How much effort to deprive yourself of customers did that take?? Strike 2 for me. Then the food came. (after the free crispy noodles w/duck sauce and hot tea of course.) The crispy noodles & duck sauce are a Chinese restaurant version of chips and salsa. It's filler and needless. That said, I had 4 noodles and meh. I certainly am not likely to fill up on a food I don't enjoy. The hot tea was the standard oolong I expected and that I always enjoy. The cold sesame noodles then came. My husband and I have different bench marks for what we like in this dish. We agree this met almost none of them. They were cold, had noodles, and something you could call sauce....I guess. The flavor had a bitter back note and had not near enough peanut flavor. I got the crispy wonton app and the scallion pancake as a meal. Both had their own sauces which were what I'd expected; thin or sugary beyond reason. The crispy wontons couldn't have had more than a teaspoon of meat in a wrapper bigger than my hand. The skins were crispy, but as soon as you got to the minuscule portion of meat? I'd have had more luck eating a rubber bouncy ball. The scallion pancakes were as standard as standard comes. Not overly oily, but not amazingly crisp. Went well with its ginger sauce, but not outstanding. The only other menu item was my husband's General Tso's Chicken. I'm told the sauce was sweet, not spicy. I could see how viscous the sauce on the plate was and it looked wrong. It was glossy and had a thickness that made me think of tube lubricant instead of food. The food is technically edible, yes, but as enjoyment goes? Not for me. read more

This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant in Queens! I accidentally stumbled upon this restaurant and I'm so happy that I did. I ordered the fried calamari, chicken wings, and chicken fried rice. The portion of the chicken fried rice can definitely be shared with two people. The only reason why I am giving it four stars instead of five is because of the customer service. The waiters were not too friendly and often forgetful. Our waitress did mention that she was new so that might've been why. But I would come back since the food is so delicious! read more

Having stuffed my face at Cannelle, we decided to order just one noodle dish, the sea food pan fried noodle. The noodles were crispy, the sauce was not overly starchy, the sliced veggies(celery, snow peas, carrots) crunchy, and the seafood was so succulent and perfectly cooked that I had to forgive them for the liberal iuse of salt. Be careful what I ask for! All in all, I would visit JJ Garden again. The waitstaff was courteous and efficient. This review is for my most recent order only - I ordered veggie dumplings, lemon chicken and white rice. Everything tasted "off" except the white rice. The dumpling filling had a strong soapy taste, as if the filling was made in a bowl that wasn't rinsed all the way. The chicken tasted gamey - like it was starting to turn bad, and the lemon sauce was also off, like it was made awhile ago and the lemon juice became spoiled. Look, everyone has an off day, and I've ordered from this place for the past 5 years, both dine-in and delivery and over that time, they've been consistent and delicious. But today was a definite "off" day, and given the fact that small businesses are hurting during COVID-19 and need customers to keep supporting them, I would think they'd try harder. A-OK in my book. My family has been coming here for years, and it really is one of the only "Chinese" sit down places like it...where you can order classic take out dishes in a dining room setting. The food isn't spectacular, but it hits the spot and I love that they have beer wine and alcohol as well. They have a party room in the back that fits up to 35 and the waiter told me it's a very simple process where you call to reserve the room and your group can just order off the menu. I hate that you think it's cool to get someone addicted to something, and then give them a discount whenever they order, just for being a great customer. I'm sure you thought it was great when I began to get so fat I had to use A DIFFERENT NOTCH on my belt. Seriously. I think it's very rude of you to make such delicious food. Only reason you're negative a star is because your egg rolls were not as great as I thought they should be. I've never eaten at the restaurant itself, so this is a review of their food and delivery services. We recently moved to Jackson Heights, and there aren't too many Chinese food options in the neighborhood. Moreover, I'm a pescaterian, so I usually eat seafood dishes when I order Chinese food. Unfortunately, most of the little hole in the wall Chinese food places in Jackson Heights only serve shrimp as their seafood option. I am not the biggest fan of shrimp. If I eat shrimp and think about it for a while, I get sick to my stomach. Luckily, JJ Chan's has an extensive menu. There are an incredible amount of dining options, including a variety of seafood meals, which makes me very happy! So far I've stuck to the fresh squid with vegetables, fried rice, and the salt and pepper shrimp, scallops, and squid. Both of these are the shit! I love Chinese-American food. I want to experience (500) Days of Chinese-American food from JJ Chan's. However, I would advise staying away from both the vegetable and seafood dumplings, as both have a rather thick skin and a not very tasty filling. The food delivery is not as fast as in Manhattan, where it's whisked over on a bike in 10 minutes. They deliver by car here, so we usually end up waiting like half an hour for our food. Also, the prices seem a little much for the area (where you can get a full Malaysian dinner for like $7), but it's not expensive, so it's really not that big of a deal, and as Jennifer P. says, it's well worth it. read more

This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area considering that most of them are chinese take-out. It is located in the strip mall so I've never eaten in, but have had delivery several times. My friend and I always order the Deep Fried Jumbo Shrimp with Walnuts. Sometimes it comes with broccoli, other times it doesn't. I don't know why. The Orange Beef and General Tso's Chicken or Beef are great. I like their Beef Lo Mein also. I don't really care for their steamed dumplings. We've also had the Steak before and it was still medium well when it was delivered to us. The "Seafood Deight" is good. The seafood came in a light white sauce which was great. I'm so tired of eating chinese food in "brown" sauce. The prices are pretty decent. Authentic chinese is pricier than the average chinese take-out, so I think it's definitely worth the money. My parents pay much more and they live in Elmhurst where there are a ton of authentic Chinese restaurants to choose from, like Ping's. I've tried their egg roll once and they're quite good. It's very small, but that's how an authentic chinese spring roll is. The skin is thin and flaky and perfectly deep-fried. And for the critic that said JJ Garden is expensive and tasteless, perhaps you've never been to a real chinese restaurant. Fried rice isn't supposed to have a ton of flavor. Chinese fried rice normally has pieces of roast pork, shrimp, egg, peas, and scallions. The rice tends to stay very light in color because they use lighter soy sauce. If you think the rice lacks flavor perhaps that's what soy sauce on the table or the extra packets in your bag is for. read more

JJ Garden's (not sure why it's called JJ Chan's Garden on Yelp?) is a Chinese restaurant in the East Elmhurst area located in a plaza among other establishments. There's a GameStop, Radioshack, and Waldbaun's nearby, just to name a few of the stores. The restaurant is very clean, has a full bar, and is always staffed with waiters. Prices are very decent as well, which is always a plus. There are a few tables located when you first walk in. There is also a party room in the back just in case you come with a rather large group. You will usually have the same waiters when you go in (all older Asian men). They are really friendly & helpful. When you sit down they offer you some sort of fried chips (I need to find out the name of those) with a duck sauce and green tea. I absolutely LOVE their green tea and usually down this on my own. I usually get the same thing whenever I go & dine in. Steamed pork dumplings as an appetizer and chicken with broccoli & white rice for entree. Do note that they offer white/brown rice with their meals if you dine in and it costs extra to swap it out for fried rice. I really don't mind since I prefer white or brown rice with my meals. Since they have a full bar, they also have a few specialty drinks along with a huge list of alcoholic beverages to choose from. If you're in the mood for a bit of liquor with your meal. In terms of ordering out, they are quick with your order and the food is always nice & hot when it gets to you. JJ Gardens is a clean, restaurant that is on the same strip mall as Cannelle Patisserie. Though JJ Gardens is pretty decent, I doubt it will usurp Cannelle as the go-to place in this mall. Sis didn't want to go at first after finding out that there was a lack of patrons inside and she kept insisting it was a Chinese American restaurant and was ready to turn around and leave. I, on the hand, didn't mind. When we got to the table, I could tell Sis wasn't really excited. There is one large room and also another room for additional diners further in. The place is longish and has good space. You are not one on top of each other. There are also 2 fish tanks that house fish/seafood so patrons can have live seafood if they desire. There were nice little tea cups with matching plates. They had nicely folded cloth green napkins and really white tablecloths that were actually cloth and not made out of plastic bags or paper. The waiter brings out fried noodles with the duck sauce dip. Sis didn't touch any. In my mind, I could see her mouthing off that fried noodles are what you find in Chinese American restaurants so I decided to munch on them quietly. They are greasy but the duck sauce is great to cover it up. We ordered the pan fried seafood noodle for $14.95. The plate portion size could be a little bigger for the price, but I was amazed how good the seafood was. Many times you get seafood that has either been preserved or not fresh and taste like it too, but not at JJ Gardens. There were shrimp, scallops and squid, though mostly squid all perfectly cooked. The noodles were nicely pan fried and some had the golden brown crust which I love and then topped with the seafood vegetable medley. The veggies were slivered carrots, beansprouts,and celery with some scallions in the mix that gave it lots of color and crunch. Sis complained that the noodles were a bit too salty. An overzealous chef must have salted it too much, but it was still a pretty decent dish. The sauce was right and not too starchy. Service was good and professional. They brought out pieces of canned pineapple on a small dish with 2 toothpicks and we each got a fortune cookie.
