    Mixed Fried Calamari and Shrimp

So, the layout requires you to determine whether you're sitting upstairs or downstairs. Then, you go straight to the market to pick out any fish, octopus, squid, mussels, shrimp or items you can't see like crab legs or lobster. We chose an African harvested shrimp that was huge! We had it prepared their traditional way. When we sat at a table, we chose from the $19.99 Lunch Menu (which is served daily from 12-4). Mixed Shrimp and Calamari and the Shrimp and scallops linguine. The best dish was the linguine. It was flavorful and without oil or butter. LOVED IT! Oh, I almost forgot about the fresh bread served with the sides I chose. Which were the cucumber salad and lemon potatoes. If you're looking for alcohol this restaurant doesn't serve it at all. Which was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the cucumber, mint lemonade and it was surprisingly ice cold without ice and refreshing. I loved it! Now, truthfully speaking the service wasn't the best. I'd have to say that the fresh market Manager was very helpful. He turned the tv on and showed pictures of every dish and took the time to explain how we could switch things up. I thought that was a nice touch. As far as our waitress, not the absolute best service. Because she was managing many tables at once and didn't return to ask if we needed anything. Asking for ice was like running in a race. We flagged down anyone who would listen.

Everyone on social media has been raving about Hamido Seafood so I was hyped to finally try this place out. When you walk in, they give you a rundown of the place: you tell the fish monger what seafood you'd like to have and how you want it cooked and then you can be seated and order sides/drinks. The display of fresh seafood was so cool to see and we decided on a red snapper and 1/2 lb scallops, both grilled. We got a side of their rice and the garlic eggplant which came with warm pita. The fish was cooked to perfection! Super flakey and seasoned heavily with Egyptian spices. The scallops were tender and the sides were also delicious. The mint lemonade they had was also very refreshing. Me and my friend were very impressed with the quality and cook of all the seafood. Overall a great place for dinner and one day I'd to try their lunch special!

One of the first tasks you need to do unpon entering is to choose from the selection of seafood on the ice counters and in the tank. This is half the fun! We picked scallops, octopus, a whole red snapper and giant prawns between a group of five of us. We then went to our table and ordered a salad and mezze plate to go with it. The food was delicious! Everything was nicely seasoned with spices, succulent and flavorful. The green lemonade was also yummy - we got a pitcher to share. I've heard it can be really busy, we were prepared to wait but when we visited on a Sunday around noon it was quiet with no wait.

Came by for their lunch special. We ordered grilled shrimp and calamari, tiger shrimp grilled, fried shrimp and calamari, and pasta with shrimp and scallops. All accompanied by 2 sides per order. The flavors were robust and light. The serving size was filling, consider it was a lunch special. The service was great.

I stopped by for the lunch special, which is a pretty good deal ! $19.99 - main / 2 sides. The Salmon was just ok , nothing special . My sides were the Hamido salad which was good, and the lemon potatoes - they were amazing. Service is ok , very "cafeteria" like.

This place is AMAZING!! If you are looking for a seafood spot that feels more like an experience than just a meal, Hamido is definitely the one. The concept is so cool, you're not ordering off a menu. You walk up to a seafood counter, pick your fish or shellfish and choose how you want it cooked. It's interactive, a little chaotic, but all part of the charm. Fair warning: We went Friday night and it was packed, waited around an hour and the whole process can feel a bit hectic-- but honestly it's worth it once the food hits the table. The seafood is impressive. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. Some of my absolute favorites were: - King Crab: rich, sweet, perfectly cooked (my personal fav) - Lobster: fresh and flavorful - Grilled shrimp: juicy smoky, done just right - Scallop: tender and tasty - Calamari fritti: crispy, light and addictive Sides like lemon potatoes and Greek salad round everything out and make it perfect for sharing. Also the mint lemonade is outstanding and very refreshing. Overall, Hamido is one of those places you go for freshness, flavors and energy. It may not be the most relaxed dining experience, but it's definitely one of the most satisfying. If you're craving seafood that feels straight from the market to your plate, this spot absolutely delivers.

Finally made it out to Astoria for some much hyped fresh seafood at Hamido. This Egyptian seafood restaurant is one of the few in the area competing on "market to table" concept where you pick what you want from a display and how you want it prepared. Most other non seafood options are med style meze like babaganoush or hummus. Salad options are there as well while you wait for your chosen seafood. We opted for over baked options for fish as well as some scallops . Prices are reasonable, expect to pay more for scallops than lobster per pound 37 vs 31 ) and dorado and sea bass were under $15 per lbs. we were pleased that the fish came out very moist and not overly seasoned . Scallops were moist and juicy although seasoned read more salty that anything spicy or or complex . It was good regardless and we had no problem finishing them. The mezze was affordable(under $10) for eggplant 2 ways. Came with warm pita . The service was spotty at times with staff either eagerly waiting to take a spare plate, to us waiting for ice and new lemon wedges. I initially expected a much larger seafood counter however it had a number of good options although some seafood like giant prawns weren't fully defrosted. The place can get quite noisy with groups, especially families with children so be warned that you have to speak up.

This spot landed on my Must Try list thanks to Instagram hype, so my expectations were reasonably high. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to the visuals. The first letdown: they were out of the tiger shrimp on the lunch menu, which immediately narrows the excitement. What did arrive felt small in portion for the price point, especially considering this is positioned as a destination-worthy spot. The beets were beautifully presented but completely underseasoned--no depth, no contrast, just... there. A missed opportunity. On the bright side, the shrimp bisque was excellent--rich, comforting, and easily the standout dish of the meal. Credit where it's due. I also ordered the mint lemonade, which was refreshing but seriously overpriced for what it was. One of those moments where you pause and ask yourself if the glass came with extra mint leaves and a story. Service, however, was a strong point. The waitstaff was very attentive, warm, and professional, which absolutely elevated the experience and is the reason this isn't a one-star review. Overall: not terrible, not memorable. I'm glad I tried it, but I'm not rushing back. If you're curious because of social media buzz, manage expectations--and maybe go specifically for the bisque.

Hamido is an amazing seafood spot in Queens with fresh fish and great Egyptian seasonings. They have a large two story location now, so it was easier to get a table than I expected. The original location is across the street and is doing carry-out only. The man at the counter is knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. He helped us decide on what to order from the many options. There was a happy hour menu that came with a main and two sides, but the dishes we wanted were not included on that so we ordered à la carte. We ordered the red snapper, scallops, fried calamari, and a giant prawn. Everything was so good, but the standout for me was the giant prawn. The snapper was also really well done and a must-order. For sides we had fries and the cucumber salad, the sides are solid but not the star. They put down fresh pita bread which is amazing but we were so full from our mains that we did not have much. Overall, if you like seafood you really need to try this place out. I would love to go again because it was a special experience.

This spot was MP Taverna years ago and now has been transformed into a pick-your-own seafood restaurant. It's similar to Astoria Seafood with Mediterranean tastes, but goes further east with an Egyptian twist. On this night, our timing was good and we were lucky to arrive at IBNHS just before 9pm after picking up my BIL from LGA and got a free parking space right outside the restaurant. The dinner rush was winding down, the line was reasonably short and we still had plenty of time to enjoy our dinner. Get your table number from the host at the front, go to the back to pick out your fresh seafood chilling on ice and get shown to your table. We had a table upstairs by the window overlooking Ditmars Blvd. Being our first time, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and chose our favorites: One pound each of Squid, Scallops, Octopus, Tiger Shrimp and a 1.4 lb whole Bronzini. I was tempted get a whole lobster from the tank, but held back. At our table, we ordered drinks and side dishes: A pitcher of Spiced Mint Lemonade, Hamido Salad, Lemon Potatoes, Seasoned Fries, Garlic Eggplant and 2x Seyadya Rice. Everything came at a fast clip, starting with Fried Calamari and soon dishes overflowed the table. I had to consolidate a few plates as each dish showed up. A little overwhelmed, I tried everything. The calamari was nicely breaded, crispy and flavored just right with a marinara dipping sauce. The scallops were perfectly seasoned & seared and for 1.1 lbs there were 16 of them, an even split for 4 people. The Grilled Tiger Shrimp were my favorite with a good char and seasoning. The Grilled Octopus was thinly sliced, not whole like I was expecting, but was still pretty good. I had specified the Bronzini to be plain grilled whole by one of 2 methods chosen by the picture on the wall, but it came out butterflied & coated in spices. If you read the signs, all seafood have a $4/lb added to the base price for cooking, but the butterflying was an additional $4 on top of that. Overall, it was a very good meal with the freshest seafood you can get.

The food and service were amazing. We sat upstairs and the music was blasting. Couldn't hear the person next to me, let alone anyone else at the table. My favorite was the scallop - OMG, so good! Oh, I was not a fan of the mixed appetizers-- not enough flavor for me.

Must visit for the fresh seafood! Like a couple of other places in Astoria, you are able to pick your own seafood that they then cook for you. Went on a Saturday night, and only had to wait 15 minutes for a table. This new location is much bigger with more ample seating. After picking your seafood (with the help of staff), you also get to pick the cooking style for each protein! We got grilled shrimp, oven baked fish, fried calamari and more. Overall, everything was tasty but don't leave this place without trying the Grilled Tiger Prawns/shrimp and fried calamari. Service was quick and friendly too. Would also recommend coming with friends to try a larger variety of seafood. Keep in mind it can be pricey but the taste, freshness of the food is worth it.

    Beet Salad Greek Salad

When my dear uncle announced his arrival to New York on a work trip two days before my birthday, and offered to take me anywhere I wanted, Hamido Seafood is the first place that popped in to my mind. I had been dying to try this Astoria Queens institution for a very long time, and had saved it for the right occasion and then finally, the occasion arrived! This establishment encompasses the heart of coastal cuisine in little Egypt, and as a first time visitor I was completely blown away. As you enter the establishment the monstrosity of this double story brightly lit restaurant greets you. The clean and self explanatory seafood case calls out your name. Ahh Egyptians, my long lost soul tribe from another universe. A kind Egyptian man greets you to go over their various cooking styles. If it's your first time like ours was, I recommend listening to his suggestions as the staff truly does know best. We went with grilled shrimp, butter scallops and a whole branzino with a spicy sauce. You are assigned a table number once you pick your seafood of choice, and the staff then helps you make yourself comfortable in their expansive dining hall. We made our way upstairs and got seated. The restaurant had a number of patrons, impressive for a Wednesday night. We ordered our sides with the waiter upstairs. Beet salad, potatoes and Greek salad. I had low expectations of the sides but oh my God was my mind blown away. This is the best Greek salad I have had in my entire life, and this is high praise because I make a really mean Greek salad myself. I immediately need to get a hold of where they buy their feta cheese from because it was the softest, pillowiest most delicious feta I have EVER tasted. The beet salad was bright and beautiful, perfectly seasoned with olive oil and lemon, and just allowing the natural flavor of the beets to shine through in perfect culinary temperance. When our seafood arrived, my jaw dropped to the floor. The barbecue shrimp was charred perfectly, not overcooked and juicy and moist. Seasoning was absolutely perfect, so as to allow the taste of the seafood to shine through. Scallops were buttery and crusty on the outside and melt in your mouth. The Branzino was an absolute showstopper. The sauce was buttery and mildly spiced, perfect for such a beautiful delicate fish. We washed down our food with mint lemonade which was fresh and fragrant and not too sweet. This was one of the most memorable seafood meals I've had and after dining here I finally understood what the fuss was really about. This is definitely the type of place you gotta keep coming to again and again. 10/10 absolute perfection!!

How is the seating on a saturday afternoon?

Early afternoon isn't too bad...but it can start to get crowded after 5

What day is the best day to come to your restaurant?

When I go is during the week,on the weekends it's busy, also during the summer the tourist come to enjoy a meal and it get packed.

Will you be accepting orders from uber eats or Grubhub anytime in the future?

Hi. Do you guys take reservations, especially if we're celebrating a special occasion?

Unfortunately we don’t only walk in

Salaam. Do you have an Islamic prayer area? Thanks in advance.

Salaam, Unfortunately not in the restaurant however there’s a mosque right behind the restaurant literally

I don't see alcohol on the menu. Is this place BYOB or is alcohol not an option?

    It's BYOB! Enjoy!

What oil is used for cooking? I have a seed & nut allergy

I doubt if any oil is used to broil the lobster. Although they keep their recipe a secret, I would call them and ask.

    Is it BYOB?

    Yes it is

Is the spice mix they use on all their dishes gluten free? Wondering if they use flour or bread crumbs. Thanks!

the only thing we use flour on is the fried dishes

I am a seafood fanatic and I loved this place. I have tried several Greek and Egyptian style…read moreseafood restaurants in the area of the same concept. Astoria Seafood is definitely the favorite! The staff are so welcoming and warm it's like being served by friends and family. The seafood options here seem bigger than other places, though they didnt have my favorite octopus on this day. There's also a huge variety of sides to pick from. The only con I can possibly name is that we both smelled so strongly like fried calamari after dining here that I could only smell calamari on our clothes at our new year's party several hours later! Maybe poor ventilation or just a very busy day. Cannot wait to come back to Astoria Seafood. Very casual dining experience - a must for seafood lovers no frills and great value.

Will never come back here. Heard about this place on IG and…read morethe crowd was so big when I got there so hopes were high. The lines themselves were confusing but there's an initial line inside where you grab your own seafood buffet style and get online to pay. It was fun grabbing everything because even though it was a lot of people, the other customers and staff (especially the young guy at the cashier and the guy sitting next to the seafood bags) were SO nice. After paying $180, he said we can basically wait to be sat or if we find a seat we can grab it. We got on second line outside to wait for a table, but we saw two seats open with another group who said it was cool to sit with them. We sat for 30 minutes, a waitress came and brought us utensils and plates. Later this bald waiter (didnt get his name) came over and asked if someone sat us from the line and we said we were told we can just sit if there's a spot. He said that wasn't allowed and we have to go on line, we're stunned but like alright...we joined the line again where we're several spots away from where we were originally when we were first online (important for later) but we didnt think we could just cut the line back to where we were. We're waiting for about a whole hour on this line barely moving which it's a friday at a busy restaurant and I still wanna have a good time, especially because we're finally next to be sat. Then this couple just comes out from inside and stands in front of us. We're thinking like um what are they doing but confident the guy knows we're next. The bald guy comes back, asks who's next, the couple raises their hands as do we and the bald guy points at us like no wait theyre next. The couple then says they accidentally went on the line inside for a table. The bald guy is like oh okay and we're like ???? He seats them, my partner says to the bald guy that we had the same situation when we were sat initially at the table and he kicked us out and placed us at the back of the line. He apologized but didn't sit us. We're so pissed at this guy and this couple but at the same time we understand the couple because it's an honest mistake but we've been here for 1.5 hours and the only problem has been this guy. Still, we wanted to enjoy the night and were reallyyyy looking forward to the delicious food. But we end up waiting another 30 minutes to be sat and at this points it's 9pm and my partner has work at 4am in the morning. We are FINALLY sat by another waiter who is very nice and we felt bad because he just seemed busy and overwhelmed. But we're sat and given two plates and utensils. Utensils are plastic knives and forks which Id expect better but sure it's "authentic" and plates are just plain plastic plates. One plate has food still on it and I ask for a new one, then also looking at the other plate it also has sauce still on it and we ask for a new one. We get the salad we ordered and new plates. For 20 minutes, the salad was all that was served, but we also got water with our order and the salad was supposed to come with garlic bread. We ask and the waiter said they're out of bread but he'll bring the water. He brings water, then about 10 minutes later (it's now been a total of 30 minutes at the table) we finally get some of our food. We were given the mussels, scallops, and shrimp (still waiting on salmon, fish and crab legs). Now, we have been here for this long and the food looked like it was thrown on the plate with zero seasoning (we ate some but the photo was pretty much how it was served). But still thought maybe it'd taste good. ...It was so bland and unappetizing. The aesthetic instead of seeming authentic was now just looking lazy and haphazard. This is just such a let down but we got the salmon and it tasted okay, a good cut but that's about it. Then my partner was eating the mussels and got one that was raw, kind of the last straw for us after everything, my partner had to be up early for work AND we still had to wait for the fish and crab legs. He went inside with the mussels and said it was raw and mentioned just the entire mixup of the night. The people inside were SO nice about it. They asked what we'd like to do and we asked for a refund for the fish and crab legs (they finally came while he was inside about the mussels) (also the crab legs were given with no tools to open the legs but the plastic utensils). We left them untouched and just wanted a refund and to leave. He told them that they should also have a sign clarifying the lines AND about the situation when we first sat down. Even the owner said yeah we should've been served when we first sat down and that it was allowed to just grab the two seats (the bald guy was still there and overheard the entire conversation). The cashier guy was very generous and was telling us he'll give the refund but we can still enjoy the crab and fish but we really had to go. Overall, the most disappointing food and service experience besides the people inside.
