It is not compariable to Chinatown in Manhattan or Flushing or Brooklyn but if you want something quick and not expecting too much, it is a good place to visit. They serve Shanghai dumplings and some dim sum (ha gow and shui mi) that are not bad. This is a typical Westernized catered Chinese restaurant but when you are in a bind and want to grab something quick and don't want to fight to find parking, this is a good place to stop. As a kid, my family used to take me to a Chinese restaurant where this current restaurant is located. This could be the same restaurant, or it could have a new owner, or have had several new owners since then. As a kid, I enjoyed going here. A few months ago, I returned here with my cousins. We had a great time and the food was decent. Two months ago, I came here with my mom for lunch. Previous reviews have said it, and I will repeat it: this restaurant is more Americanized Chinese food. This is not to say that it is bad, because it certainly isn't, but if you are looking for a more authentic place, you'd be better off going to Flushing or Chinatown. For example, they have soup dumplings here. I thought they were pretty good, but the ones at Joe's shanghai (both in Flushing and Chinatown) are much better. Regarding the service, I can't complain. The waiters and staff were very attentive. I still have great memories of this place. If I could, I would add an extra half-star. read more

This is my favorite neighborhood Chinese restaurant -and my favorite Chinese food in NY so far. Granted I don't eat at fancier Chinese restaurants (like in Manhattan) - but I do eat Chinese OFTEN. I get takeout from JJ Garden's ALL THE TIME. I rarely eat-in - but when I have, it's even better. I guess that's normal - but it's still GREAT when you take it home. We've had dinner delivered from them a few times - but I prefer to pick it up since I'm only a block or two away. Some outstanding dishes: General Tso's Mei Fun Salt and Pepper Scallops They have a full bar, and a friendly staff. I probably frequent this place way too often - but I like it, so I guess that's OK. A few people there even know me by name now - Jerry and the girl at the front counter are terrific! I happen to be a sucker for little glass bottles of Coca Cola - which they just happen to stock! Anyway, some things on the menu are better than others. I really enjoyed the crystal shrimp dumplings because they are steamed and taste fresh. No one was answering the phone at Lin's, and for some reason I saw four stars here for this place... maybe an app problem... so I ordered for delivery. It took 55 minutes to arrive and the delivery guy couldn't find a place to park, so my husband had to go down to the lobby to pick it up. We ordered Juicy Little Pork Buns, Beef Lo Mein and Pork Egg Foo Young. I had to stop eating while I was still hungry because it was so greasy. I am currently plagued with gas, and our apartment still smells like a Chinese restaurant. My husband didn't finish his either, which never happens. They didn't include chopsticks. The food is pretty much average, I ordered the beef broccoli with white rice(large) and they gave us less than a pint of rice. A large you should be at least a pint of rice and the beef sauce was a bit too watery than it should be. In addition I had gotten the sweet and sour chicken which I didn't have a problem with. Delivery service is alright, not too fast nor slow. The prices are higher than other fast food Chinese places and for the amount you're getting isn't enough. Took my Mom & sister here for an early mother's day celebration. I would have loved to bring them to Flushing but we ended up here which is literally 2 blocks from where they both live. My mother is getting old and has trouble getting around. Surprise to find the place full but was very lucky that there was one table waiting for us. Also learned that most of the crowd had reservations in advance, just glad that we were accommodated without a fuss. We literally ordered a storm. The first was Pan Fried Seafood Noodles in a basket..for Long life...Crispy Squid, Boneless Barbecued Ribs, Steamed fish with Black Beans Sauce, Sauteed Watercress and Corn Soup. Everything was very delicious & tasty, and the staff (which I learned were there long) were all wonderful and their service was excellent. The only problem was some of the dishes were too "oily". Their glass enclosed kitchen was visible on the way in so you can actually see the chefs in action and your food being cooked which was a sight to behold. My sister said that they order food to go all the time and never had any problem, and her real Estate office always have their meetings here so that says a lot about this place. it's nice to have a good Chinese restaurant near you that you can rely on when you get lazy in the kitchen & when family & friends surprise you for a visit. read more

As far as I can tell, the best thing about this place is that it's in a strip mall with a parking lot. Other than that - it seems to offer the same sub-par Chinese food you get from the take-out only joints in Astoria or East Harlem (my regular stomping grounds). We had pork and vegetable dumplings (not on the lunch menu but we were there specifically for dumplings). They were fine. Not much flavor. Not bad - just nothing to write home (or to yelp) about. The pork were definitely better than the vegetable. Sesame chicken. Goopy. Uber-sweet. Gloppy. Not too good. Came with a couple of pieces of broccoli (nice touch - needed to break the gluey glop). Boneless ribs were of the yummy variety - but some of them were rather dried out and needed the gloppy sauce but not being a fan of the gloppy sauce... well, you get it. I am speaking to all the negative reviews to this restaurant. Let me preface this with the fact that I am an AMERICAN born and raised in the states, not of Chinese or any Asian decent of any kind, who happens to have traveled quite a bit. Just about any restaurant that had not been Michelin rated claiming to be Chinese in New York or anywhere in the US will pander to what it feels are local tastes. If you want close to authentic Chinese food in this town from a restaurant that is not specifically claiming to be authentic, you need to know exactly what to ask for, Otherwise, they, like most other Chinese restaurants, will assume you are a typical American and you want shiny, sweet, salty, un-nuanced VERSIONS of what is eaten in China. And even then, at best, you'll only get a close facsimile. You will never get truly authentic Chinese food in the US. There are just too many ingredients that are not available here in fresh form and too many things that most Americans will not eat due to textural, olfactory, and moral reasons. You want truly authentic Chinese food, go to China. As far as authenticity goes, this place is one of the best in the area that delivers. Having picked up at the restaurant ONCE, I would easily say that I'd never go there to eat in...bright lights, a bit of garish stereotypical decor...and let's face it, it's in the middle of a shopping center and the interior does little to help you forget that. However, at the same time, most of the people I saw at the tables when I went, were of Asian descent so make of that what you will. It is very well known that just about any Asian restaurant has a secret menu that is reserved just for people originally from that area and those in the know. Overall, the food from the regular menu does not strike me as being overly greasy as it does in most Chinese take out places, it's always flavourful and presentable. My final review...ALWAYS order delivery from them if you're in the neighbourhood, you might not want to eat in if ambiance is your thing. Insider tip: If you're looking for a nice dessert and coffee afterward (as open-minded as I would like to consider myself, I don't care for Asian sweets. A shortcoming I'm mortified about) , walk down a few storefronts to Cannelle Patisserie next door to Waldbaums in the same strip mall. Manhattan and even Paris-worthy pastries in Queens! I went here for a quick dim sum after I had a great experience getting their noodle bowls in the past but was extremely disappointed. Do not get dim sum here!! The egg rolls were wrapped in wonton paper and over friend. The pancake, which I asked if it was the egg pancake I'm used to getting at Korean and Japanese restaurants, did not contain bread but a bread batter that was also over fried. The pork shu Mai was ok at best and luckily wasn't over cooked. The only thing that did taste good was the Chinese broccoli, which if you screw up this simple vegetable you should not call yourself a Chinese restaurant!
