This year has been our year for plumbing issues. Between clogged and dead toilets and slow draining sinks, we have had more plumbers working here than in the past 10 years combined, probably. Last month, at Alan's request, our son-in-law checked the crawlspace under the house for dampness. He found some. Not bad, but enough that it needed professional attention. Alan researched on Yelp and found Jorge of JJ Rooter. We had had French drains put in years ago and our first thought was to have them cleaned out. Jorge came over and did that, but found that more was needed. Water was still getting under the house despite the French drains, so it was not being captured. Jorge gave us three options for fixing it, including the costs of each and we chose to go w/ the most expensive, outside work, then added more work under the house itself. It seemed the most practical way to go. He came over last Friday w/ his crew and equipment and they worked for three days straight, including Easter Sunday, which surprised us. Rather than arriving early early, as many workers do, they arrived around 9:30 or 10 each morning, which pleased me as I'm a late sleeper. They worked until dark each day and were very mindful of the plants. One of the sweetest things was that Jorge's wife, Veronica, came over every afternoon except Easter w/ supper for the crew, which she served out of the trunk of the car. Alan walked by on Friday and she offered him a plate of spaghetti and chicken. He brought it in, took a few bites and then offered me some. It was delicious, so good that I finished it while he was napping. When we were coming home from Nina's granddaughter's birthday party the next day we thanked her and she gave us two more plates of chicken, beef, rice, beans, potatoes and spaghetti. As we were going out that night, we wrapped and refrigerated them and they were our dinner the following night. Most of the outside work was done Sunday night, save for the cement repair in back by the deck, which they finished Tuesday. They managed to get everything done between rainstorms. The last bit, under the house, they completed Thursday. Alan inspected the work they did and was very pleased. I was happy they were mindful of the plants. Great service and very conscientious. I had a pretty substantial water leak and called Jorge, who got back to me within 30 minutes of my call. Leak was not in the house and we couldn't really tell where it was going. Jorge suggested I call a leak detection company since we were unable to find the leak. Called the leak detection company but they couldn't come for another 5 days. I had the water turned off and wanted at least a temporary fix so I could use some water in the house for the next 5 days. Called Jorge again, who came back in a couple of hours, we tried a few things, and sure enough, instead of just having a temporary solution, he fixed the problem. I liked how responsive Jorge was, also really nice, seemed genuinely disappointed he was unable to fix the problem on the first try, and very happy when we fixed the issue. Very professional. Although he had to reschedule the initial service a couple of times due to different reasons, he was always very communicative and gave fair notice. It was worth the wait! This is the second time we've had JJ come out and the 5 start review is overdue. Both times he has been able to schedule an appointment next day for us and diagnose/fix the issue quickly. This time we called him to check out the water accumulating under our kitchen sink and an old outdoor garden hose faucet that was giving us problems. Our toilet stopped flushing at about 9 last night. After plunging mightily and pouring in some sort of "gentle clog remove" stuff, we stopped drinking fluids, in the hopes of making it through the night and finding it all fine in the morning. It wasn't. Yelp led me to Jorge, who answered his phone at 7am (it sounded like maybe I woke him up, but he was very gracious). He was here by 8:15 or so, and the problem resolved quickly and for under $100. Apparently when you have lots of little bottles of toiletries on shelves in your tiny bathroom, and evil cats (he didn't say the evil part, but he didn't have to), you should keep the toilet lid closed. 5 stars for Jorge, -7 stars for kitties who like to throw tiny yet destructive things into toilets. read more

Jorge and his crew were really fantastic. I can't believe how much work they did. Our sewer pipe runs the entire length of our very large backyard (instead of to the street -- argh!) and had fallen apart and was clogged. They had to dig three really deep holes, one under a deck, one of them 7 feet deep, and replace the entire pipe. They did it quickly and efficiently and were really nice to work with. My 7 year old daughter came in to tell me how nice the workers were, and she's shy! They finished late on a Sunday and didn't want to do the cleanup in the dark, but I had to be at work on Monday, so I just paid them the full amount on the assumption that they would come back and do a moderate clean up on Monday. Their cleanup was immaculate. It honestly looks much better than when they got here. They swept my front porch, even though they didn't really work there. Great customer service! Jorge seemed very honest, and took his time to explain everything to me. We have a drainage issue in the backyard and he was trying to offer multiple solutions to help solve the problem. He showed me how 4 of the pipes were all clogged with dirt and roots. He also used our hose to show how the water just backs up and overflows and the pipes aren't doing their job. And this was all free! The quick: Very responsive, great service, fair pricing, and candid to his own expense! The dirty: Had Jorge come out to snake a landscape drain that was backed up during the last heavy rain. Turns out the pipe is broken about 100 feet down the line. He told me this, and that it would have to be dug up to be repaired or replaced. When I asked what he charged he said that it was such a easy job that a couple unskilled laborers could do it for much less. He even offered to talk them through the job over the phone. We had been having an issue with our shower for months, and we had a couple of plumbers come by and none of them were able fix it. I would give more than 5 stars if I could. I highly recommend Jorge. Over the years we had used many people to snake our cracked and root infested sewer lines for our 100+ year old house. Eventually we found Jorge and were very happy with his work. Found I could borrow a snake from the Berkeley Tool Lending Library so did it myself for some years until the clay pipes just collapsed. Called Jorge. It turned out the fix was even more complicated then we thought. Jorge came up with a creative alternative that worked. His team worked very hard over the weekend and stayed quite late each day (including Sunday). Not sure we could have gotten such good and dedicated service from others. Haven't had a problem with the sewer line since. Last year, suddenly the 2nd floor bath tub wouldn't drain after my son's bath late Friday night (this was unrelated to the sewer line). Called Jorge. He was able to come Saturday after another job. First fix (snaking) didn't work. Jorge told us the next solution had a 50% chance of working and if it didn't we would need to replace the pipes (which would cost thousands of $$$). We gave the OK for the 2nd solution and Jorge attacked the problem from the top (the bathroom) and from the bottom (under the house). As many of us were met with plumbing issues and/ or leakages from the strong rainy season recently and especially late Dec'22 and early Jan'23. Myself included. I initially had a large plumbing company come out. But after 2 visits by 2 different techs with findings that didn't line up I as confused by the increased predictability of what the next steps were after already paying quite a bit for a potentially backed up French drain issue and identifying which pipes the backup was originating from. Our office toilet was clogged, and got the approval to find a plumber and found JJ Rooter and plumbing. I called them up and spoke to Jorge and ask him for a quote and if he can come to the office today. He gave me a reasonable quote and promptly texted me that he was on the way to our office. I showed him the toilet a told him the problem. He tried to open the main line from outside but he it was hard to open, So I ask to try snaking it from the inside. Jorge did a good job and he said there's a lot of roots along the line. He suggested if it happens again after a couple of months, he need to put a camera and open from the outside. After our gas water heater stopped working properly we noticed other gas appliances weren't working either. PG&E came out and after some investigation it turned out the gas lateral to our house was leaking and filling with water from all the recent heavy rain. After seeing his great reviews I gave Jorge a call. He got back to me quickly and came out the same day to look at our gas line.
