I don't write many reviews anymore, and honestly, I haven't had many contractor experiences that would motivate me to change that. But Lassiter Excavation was so good that I couldn't continue to be lazy.  For context, I was replacing an old 35,000-gallon swimming pool with a skinnier lap pool. Lassiter started by completely removing the massive 1975 pool, including every scrap of concrete and piping.  Then they backfilled and compacted. Working to my soils engineer's specifications, they imported and compacted 18 truckloads of quarry fines in carefully controlled 8-inch lifts through the full 12-foot depth of the deep end, all the way to finished grade. They used multiple pieces of equipment, including jumping jacks, a Bobcat, and a vibratory sheepsfoot roller (which I had to look up), and they coordinated compaction testing throughout the process.  When they were done, it looked like a pool had never been there. The site was fully prepared for the new excavation, which Lassiter then completed flawlessly.  I measured their forms with a laser level and laser tape measure, and length, width, diagonals, position and elevations were all within 1/8 inch. That's impressive considering the new lap pool is nearly 60 feet long. When they were finished digging, the walls and floor were razor straight and right on their marks. The crews were outstanding -- friendly, hardworking, detail-oriented, and consistently professional. They maintained an exceptionally clean jobsite throughout the project and even helped me reclaim some old redwood decking.  Special thanks to Santana, Ricardo, Daniel, Jose and team for answering all my questions and caring so much about the end result. We needed to remove all the dirt that was excavated from our pool and left behind by the pool company; it was once used for landscaping and mounding. Probably over 200 cu. yards was expertly removed by the Lassiter crew in one day, navigating through a fairly narrow pathway to the back. The skill of the bobcat driver Daniel was something to watch, and the dust control worked very well. I just had Lassiter fill in my old pool, and I couldn't be any happier with the whole process. I called one morning to explain what I wanted and that same day Carlos stopped by to take a look. I had a quote for three removal options the next day. It took a few months after that to get a plan for what to do with the yard after the removal, but as soon as the landscaper was ready I just let Lassiter know and by the weekend the pool was being drained. I opted for partial removal since we weren't planning to build on the land. From start to finish took 3 days...I was amazed how fast it went. In the end they left the yard nice and neat and ready for landscaping (and they power washed all the dust in the street too). Have to say everyone I dealt with from Lassiter was awesome, from Carlos to Brenda in the office (who answered all my dumb questions pleasantly) to the guys who did all the hard work! I contracted with Lassiter Excavating to complete a full inground pool and surrounding patio demolition and removal. Carlos, who specialized in pool demolition at Lassiter Excavating was very timely responding to my inquiry and came out to evaluate the job scope and provided a quote within days. Carlos was very knowledgeable, patiently explaining the process for pool removal and what was needed in preparation for the job. Lassiter took care of everything. Brenda in the office communicated often appraising me of the status of the permit and the start date. Once the permit was obtained, the work started within a few days. I had my pool filled in. This was a 3 inspection job. One word...streamlined. Every single person, whether estimator (Carlos), surveyor, office support, crew and supervisor were friendly, polite, efficient and fast! Every single request I made was filled, and then some. Incredible communication. I only saw an inspector once, and felt confident they took care of everything. I was told this would happen in 4 days....how about a little over 2 days? With zero damage. These big jobs are tricky with access, etc, but Carlos helped me prepare very well. Seriously, I would refer this company anytime. Well done! Lassiter wasn't the lowest price but they were worth every penny. We had our pool filled in. It was a complicated job as the pool was on a hillside with limited access, had city geological restrictions, and existing cement decking and brick retaining walls that we wanted kept intact. During the bidding process Carlos clearly explained all our options and answered all our follow up questions. He was very knowledgeable, patient, and responsive in subsequent communications. Really great to work with. Once we accepted the bid they handled everything including planning, scheduling, building an elaborate access (including a huge steel plate ramp over the retaining wall to protect it), demo, fill, cleanup and all permit/inspection details. Santana, the equipment operator, was stellar. He really paid attention to detail and took care to avoid any collateral damage. He literally had only inches of clearance in places and managed to not damage any of the existing decking during three days of driving multiple pieces of equipment in and out of the area. Finally, the excavation was only part of the job. Dealing with the city and handling all the permit, inspections, etc. is equally as important. Brenda and her team did an outstanding job here. Dealing with San Jose is complicated and time consuming and in our case ended up requiring additional geological inspections/reports, etc. They handled all of this and kept us informed along the way. In summary, Lassiter did an outstanding job for us. They have the experience to handle tricky excavation situations, are planning/execution masters, and know how to handle all the city requirements. Lassiter Excavating just finished our backyard pool demolition. My pool was very hard to get to because it was one story below the front yard and had very little room between my house and the neighbors in which to work. Every person that came here was friendly, excellent at telling me what they were doing and why. They were professional, on time and immediately started working. No one raised their voice. They were efficient and fast. The yard both in front and in back is level. It is ready for what yard remodeling I want to do. Everything was cleaned up properly. They completed the demolition in the time frame they promised. The bid was thousands of dollars below any other bid. I paid for the demolished pool with a credit card by phone. Had a small hole excavated in my back yard. The work was perfect, the site was cleaner when they left than it was before. The price was fair. My only complaint is that it is very hard to get Bob on the phone. I was trying to coordinate delivery of 1,100 lbs of parts and couldn't get these guys to narrow down a date for the dig. I understand that weather plays a role in excavation but you could call and just tell me that. If you really need to talk to bob call the main line and ask the person who answers to relay a message. That being said, I would use Lassiter again in the future. read more

These guys could plan D-Day. Professional, on time, thorough. We had an old swimming pool completely removed, including all concrete jackhammered and hauled out and new soil brought in and compacted. We had limited access but they got the bulldozers in with careful measurement and inches to spare. They managed the whole process, estimates, permits (and our city is pretty stringent), everything clean and again professional. We are happy to recommend them with rave reviews. read more

I got 4 bids and Bryce was the highest - by 25%!  Why did I take his?  Because of my limited access, he was the only one that knew how to do the job.  He brought in a conveyor and at least 8 guys showed up every day.  They had 4 guys on jackhammers for two days.  And then at least 8 guys running the conveyor & compactor for 4 days.  And did a really excellent job. They gave me some good advice on how to finish the backyard and even moved 3 yards of gravel into the backyard at the end of the job with the conveyor.  Which saved me a lot of hassle of trying to move it by wheelbarrow or bucket.  Yes, I may have paid more with Bryce than the initial bids from the others, but I think every dollar was worth it - and possibly cheaper in the long run.   Having had lots of jobs done in the last 24 years on our home, I know the problem of trying to go cheap - it generally is not worth it. We had a great experience with Lassiter. Bryce came out and gave us an estimate to remove our pool and demo some additional structures in the backyard. It took us close to a year to finally move forward with the project and Bryce honored the original bid he gave us. Lassiter and the crew was easy to work with, followed through in a timely manner on everything they promised and got the job done in almost half the time. The original time estimate was 5 days. They completely demo'd the pool, structures and back filled in less than three full days. We are building over the top of the now filled in pool and when the engineer from the city came out to test compaction he said that Lassiter is one of the best excavation companies he works with. Last week Lassiter completed our pool removal. Our pool had a leak and rather than fix it, in light of the water shortage where we live, we decided to have it fully removed. We are so very pleased with Lassiter Excavating. After interviewing a number of pool removal companies my husband and I engaged Lassiter Excavation in Fall 2015 to remove our pool per the county requirements, at the bottom of our hillside property in Marin County and to prepare this site for landscaping. The job was very complex, and included the removal of a chain link fence, wooden deck, and all pool equipment; the grading and paving of a new parking area; and the laying of topsoil for planting on the remainder of the site. We also had some concerns about a retaining wall at the pool area and were very pleased with the care taken to ensure its stability. As heavy equipment was brought in to do the demo and infill, steel plates were installed on the lower driveway to minimize damage. From the outset, we were extremely impressed with the personal attention provided to us by Bryce Lassiter, the third generation of his family to manage the company. Bryce did a site visit to assess the project and was very responsive as we further developed the scope of work and negotiated a contract to fulfill our needs. My husband is a structural engineer and with his knowledge of what can go wrong in any construction project, it was very important that he work with someone in whom he had absolute confidence. Lassiter Excavation exceeded his expectations and their pricing was fair. (Note that we were billed the amount agreed upon at the conclusion of the job, were able to pay electronically, and received an immediate receipt.) An excellent crew under the supervision of dedicated project manager Carlos Velasco handled the complex job efficiently and with incredible speed. From start to finish the removal and infill took only four days, and when concluded, passed all compaction tests required by our permit process and the permit was duly granted. If we had another pool to remove we would certainly engage Lassiter again, but in lieu of that, all we can do is give our strongest "five star" recommendation to others considering such an undertaking. Lassiter dug my pool. They hit some compacted clay and rock. In my opinion they took advantage of this to charge me an excessive amount of overage. A $7000 job, cost over $10,000 for the same time (2 days work). I would not use them unless you have a pre-agreed upon cost structure. They handsomely profitted from the unknown rock underground. My experience all started with an online search to try and find a demolition company willing to take on a unique job- the demolition of a manufactured home located in the Bay Area. I contacted at least 15 demolition contractors in the Bay Area and fewer than 3 returned my inquiry. The project was especially challenging due to the fact that the job had to be done quickly and with a limited budget. The project estimator, Bob Ellis was super easy to communicate with and was quick to provide an estimate and a formal bid. The work started less than two weeks after first making contact with Lassiter. The project was completed in just over a day and all of the workers were respectful of the neighbors near the job site and drove safely on the many trips that it took to haul the debris from the project site. All of the employees were top notch and did a great job completing the job safely and quickly! Lassiter did more work than I had expected and the results are phenomenal. The work site was left spotless and we couldn't have asked for a better contractor to complete the project. I live in Sacramento and I wasn't sure if Lassiter Excavating provided service in Sacramento but I called and spoke to Carlos and he drove down from Livermore to Sacramento to survey the sight and give me an estimate. This was the only company willing to give me an estimate. Companies in Sacramento were either busy with construction projects or refused to provide an estimate if I did not have 10' clearance. I live on a corner lot with customized dual iron gates with 9" clearance. Plenty of space to get a Bobcat excavator inside the property to load dirt. The professionals from Lassiter Excavating were able to gain egress into and out of the property with no problem. They were able to fill-in a 16,000 gallon vinyl pool with no problem at an affordable price. They obtained the permit and scheduled the inspector from Sacramento County to sign-off on the permit and also scheduled a private party to sample the compaction from the dirt filled-in. They are the only company I proudly recommend tor any homeowners that are tired of maintaining a pool. Noel Davis read more
